Halloween Is Coming to Town

Halloween has been officially adopted as a holiday in Ellipsa. So the Summer Guild Leader, Dawn, has arranged a three day party to celebrate it. She has gotten a lot of people involved to make it as fun as possible! They are held at all of the guilds (Frostreign, Blossomcrown, Solarpeak, Amberfall).

All of the guilds are now connected through a mirror path. However, the paths have been made longer with the help of Riki's Rewards, so the journey from Guild A to Guild B isn't instant! Instead people will encounter the spooky corridor, full of silly ways to spook someone such as randomly appearing skeletons and ghosts. Usually these are just fake props or people hiding under a sheet - but occasionally there's an actual skeleton around and taking off his head to cite Shakespeare.

The aesthetics of the corridor change depending on what guilds it connects together. All of them are made to be spooky right now, but originally they were made to work as actual methods of traveling between the guilds, so it's not everything there is. The night skies with a creepy red full moons are just temporary!

At the guilds, all of the natives have dressed up in different costumes and are encouraging people to pick their own costume from the costume room setup. Unfortunately, some very mischievous fairies have gotten into the room undetected and may cast a spell that makes someone act like they're the character the costume represents.

There's also an option to get a random costume if someone feels daring.

Otherwise it's a party filled with different kinds of Halloween appropriate food and drinks. Cookies that look like skeletons, pudding made to look like brains, drinks that look like blood and so on. Even the actual food has somehow been made to look creepy.

By the end of the evening, anyone who hasn't screamed because they were scared will be gifted a special potion called shared bravery. It lets the user to share their bravery with others around them for five hours.

Eliza didn't like vampires, but this vampire costume had a very very pretty dress. It was a long black backless velvet dress which sparkled when the light caught it. She decided to where her hair up with it as well and swapped out her usual collar for the long black silk ribbon that came with the costume.

She felt like she looked stunning and was using that to boost her confidence as she sipped some wine, Red of course. And eyed one of the Mirror Paths.

"So...how do these work again?"

"Wow! You look so pretty, Eliza-chan!" Rinku absolutely sparkled. "It's so cool, isn't it?"

Hina, also in a little costume, squeaked and flew around Eliza. She couldn't see the vampire costume to appreciate that Eliza was dressed as the closest thing to her, but it sounded like she was having fun!

[1) Summer Guild]

[Rinku shows up with Mecchan and Hina. As agreed with Russell, they're dressed up as an adventuring guild! Rinku's a bard, wearing the same minidress-and-thigh-highs combination that she wears under her armour (hey, why are there rips in the back where wings would be?) but instead of armoured layers, she's got belts, pirate boots, and a lyre strapped to her back, and a jewelled pin in her hair instead of her usual bow. Hina is a barbarian with a little fuzzy tunic around her torso and a foam axe strapped to it, and Mecchan is a mage hiding in his little robe and holding a "staff" that's actually a magical-girl-wand-themed pen so it's just his size.]

Wow, isn't this great? Everyone's gonna have so much fun this year! Hey, hey, what's your costume?

[2) Mirror Path Corridors]

[Rinku and friends are absolutely trying these out! Mecchan is shaking in his robe, and when a sheet ghost drops from the ceiling, he blows bubbles at it and knocks it over. Realizing finally that everything is fine, he slumps a little and Rinku pets him.]

See, it's not scary at all!

[She notices you and waves.]

Hi! Sorry, he gets scared a lot... but this isn't really scary, so I think it's fine. How are you doing?

[3) Costume Room (any guild)]

[Sure, Rinku came with a costume, but trying out the costume room for a little bit seems fun, right? She comes in and tries on a princess costume and spins around in it.]

Wooow! Isn't this cute? You gotta try one!

[And then she tries... Why is there a Sexy Frost Giant costume? Either way, Rinku can't keep a straight face and starts giggling when she comes out of the changing room in this thing.]

I guess even Ellipsa has this stuff.

[4) Food (any guild) | cw trauma reaction]

[Rinku approaches the food table, humming and ready to inhale everything as usual. Hina's already flown over and started to dig into an eyeball cake pop, and even Mecchan looks excited.

But seeing the gore food, she freezes. She drops her empty plate on the floor and stares, her usually sparkling eyes going blank.]

...

[Guess who's been repressing how that high-risk quest went! Not to mention that time she set a gangster on fire!]

[There's a zombie (of sorts) approaching the very few people he knows and isn't impossibly shy to mingle with. He's found the "soba", of course, though he too eyes the sloppy, plate of spaghetti made to resemble one's guts.]

Ah- [He spies the mess; spies Rinku, and then he stoops to clean up.]

[You'd be forgiven for thinking that the five-armed person with a butterfly for a head carrying a coffin was part of the spooky ambiance, although they aren't jumping out at anyone. That is, until they speak with Evangeline's (enthusiastic) voice.]

I love Halloween! I think I really nailed my costume this year, what do you think?

[She's a lot better at Summer shapeshifting than she was last year, and she has a better understanding of what Halloween costumes are supposed to be. Hot monsters, right? She can totally do that.]

[If you look closely, you can see that she has given herself eyes and a mouth on that butterfly, they're just very small so as to hide them. Which is why she's currently holding a plate full of Halloween cookies and not eating them.]

...I guess I could just make my mouth bigger, but then it wouldn't look right... But it's not like Funeral of the Dead Butterflies is going to know...

In a place like this, where the people aren't trapped even after they die, Funeral of the Dead Butterflies wouldn't attack anyone. But the Abnormality doesn't exactly have a wide range of conversation topics.]

[Rinku looks at her nervously. She's already had her night ruined once, but she's trying to shake it off... but the thought of dying makes her gulp and look nervously at her.

[Russell is, at first, too stunned to reply. That formal attire, that strange head, that somber air… it’s all uncomfortably familiar. It was like something straight out of Darcover Town. He draws back in on himself at the sight of her as she approaches.

Even after a moment passes and he registers the sound of Evangeline’s voice, a strange expression remains on his face. Troubled. Guilty. When he speaks, his voice is hollow.]

[Frieda wants to experience as much of Halloween as she can, so of course she came to the party! Having started in Blossomcrown at her home guild, she was planning to take the Mirror Path to Solarpeak where she lives once the night has advanced... however, the queen of hearts costume she was randomly assigned has developed a life of its own. As such, she points the sizeable fake sceptre that came with it at the nearest person.]

You shall escort me home!

[Doesn't she usually ask rather than command?!]

[It's impossible to identify the butterfly-headed person by sight, but the cheery voice that responds is clearly Evangeline.]

Okay! I wanted to try out princess carrying someone like this anyway.

[What with the five arms and all, it'd be a waste not to! Without further waiting, she scoops Frieda up into a proper princess carry.]

[Well, he "sees" the woman, sees the sceptre pointed "threateningly" at his head, but isn't anywhere close to actually moving to obey. Hyakkimaru, himself, is a half-dead prince. He's hardly aware, doesn't know what Halloween is and simply wanders towards scents of meat, sweets, frying funnel cakes, and fat. So, Frieda's ignored, and there's a quieted, gentled sound rumbling out of him, too. Nearly a laugh. The boy peeks back, and then he's hobbling away on his already pre-existing peg-leg.]

[Hijikata uses the occasion to wear his Mythological Mask, along with his usual black kimono and a pair of black costume wings, to turn himself into an only slightly inaccurate crow tengu. He does miss his bird-headed familiar from Avalon ever so often... moreover, though, he wants to win the reward. How cool would it be to disperse Shared Bravery? He has a foolproof plan to attain it, too: He'll simply spend the whole evening at the summer guild. It's not like they're tallying who actually traverses the Mirror Paths, right?

Right now, he has the mask turned to the side of his face as he drinks some blood-red punch at the buffet.]

[Rinku was doing fine! Fine! She can just look away from the gross food and pretend she does not see it! But then Hijikata says that and the aura of guilt is palpable from three metres away.]

[Wendy, dressed as a typical witch, watches Hijikata drink with an uncharacteristic smirk.]

My, how uncouth. True, a warrior mustn't fear blood, but you look almost like a monster yourself gulping it down like that. I thought you were meant to be a tengu today, not a vampire.

[Still with that amused smirk, Wendy pops a peeled grape made to look like an eyeball into her mouth.]

( As soon as Thea hears the words party and costume, she's interested, rifling through the autumn guild's costume room and selecting something suitably fun, her red hair scraped casually over one shoulder. A party not just here, but among the other guilds as well, means that she makes her way to the autumn guild party while mentally mapping out an itinerary to allow herself to experience every party going on. All the better to meet more people, right? )

( The first stop of the night and she's still fine and dandy, carefully ladling blood-dark punch into a cup and holding a bone shaped cookie between her teeth, snapping the sweet treat in half as she steps away with a polite incline of her head at the next waiting person. )

Not bad. ( She declares after swallowing. ) I would have used white chocolate instead of icing, personally. ( She says this like she can bake. She cannot. )

( She doesn't so much walk into the next party as she does stumble, her heart thundering as she shudders, adrenaline still hammering in her veins. She certainly isn't winning any potions for bravery as she looks back at the doorway through which she entered. The (comparatively) brighter lighting bathing her in sanctuary, the din of people talking and music pounding washing away the worst of the fear.

She is quick to find her way to the drinks, queuing behind another. )

Have you been through those tunnels? ( She asks, craning her neck a little to try and glimpse the progress of the person getting their drink. )

spring guild.
( She braces for the expected when she makes her way to the spring guild's party, and it pays off. Well. It pays off a little. The final ghost jumpscare does unsettle her, making her flatten herself against the wall and shove the door open to come out into the thick of the spring guild's party. She presses her hand to her chest, steadying her breath and straightening her shoulders.

It's fine. It isn't anything real. Just people messing around. She takes a glance at the food and drink on offer but shakes her head, drawn instead to the music and dancing. Speaking of — )

Might I join you? ( She offers a smile to the person she asks, dipping into a brief curtsey as she does. )

winter guild.
( What she'd expected to be a relatively simple task, moving between one guild and the next, has been anything but. She could have — very nearly did — decide to spend the rest of the evening in the spring guild, far from any more jumpscares.

But her plan wins out, stubbornness driving her through the last few scares with the jaded affect of someone who's been through the wars. Or someone who just never really cared for the scaring aspect of these types of holidays even before she got here, someone who's bypassed fear and landed at exhausted resignation.

She staggers into the winter guild and immediately finds a chair, lifting a leg to massage her burning calf with a groan. )

[Caster had turned up without much of an idea on what to wear for the festivities, so was taking her time looking through the costumes available to wear- but nothing caught her eye just yet. And, well, the cutesy pink Princess dress she'd been handed wasn't going to do it for her at all.]

No, this isn't quite what I had in mind...

[Putting it back, she then reached for what initially appeared to be a darker dress- only to discover she'd accidentally picked out a bunny-girl outfit. Don't mind her going red underneath her cloak!]

What- absolutely not, I am not wearing that...!

2) Party! [Any Guild]

[The next day, Caster's back at the party in higher spirits! It helps she decided not to settle for one of the ones her Guild was offering- instead, having picked out a dragon costume on Oryou's recommendation!

She had even brought her Avalonian companion with her- the cat-sized skeletal dragon perched contently on her shoulder.]

Trust you to fuss about coming along too, Little One... now, shall we see which of the guests we can spook?

[The dragon gave an excited little laser sound in response, looking around at all the other guests.]

Costumes

Reiner, perhaps unwisely, decides to go with a random costume. Maybe he's being daring … or maybe he just has no idea what to choose for himself. Whatever the case, it can't possibly be worse than the 'oni' costume he got last time, can it?

He ends up in a sheriff costume, complete with a magically grown beard. (It's his own facial hair, just with the growth temporarily accelerated.) All things considered, he thinks he looks pretty damn good.

Catch him checking out his new outfit in a mirror, playing with the shiny badge on his vest, or carefully inspecting his revolver to see if it's real and/or loaded.

Shakespeare

While traveling through a spooky corridor, Reiner finds himself distracted. Not by the general spookiness, but by a headless skeleton reciting what must be poetry.

Reiner stands with his arms folded and head cocked to the side, listening as the disembodied voice speaks:

"Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard.
It seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come."

As the words unfold, Reiner's lip part slightly, clearly absorbed in the recitation—and not scared in the least.

Food

What would a celebration be without food? A sad celebration, that's what.

Reiner samples each variety of cookie, pudding, and so forth, filling his plate with small portions before heading off to eat. He'd prefer to share a table, so he approaches anyone with room at theirs, indicating a vacant seat.

"May I?"

Given the costume and the facial hair (which makes him look several years older), friends and acquaintances may be forgiven for not recognizing him at first. To anyone else, he probably looks like a serious man in his mid-twenties. Blame said facial hair.

Reiner may not be affected by his costume, but Jean unfortunately is. He took the same gamble with the random outfit and got himseld an outlaw cowboy one. Thankfully, his double guns are very much just water guns, but they probably look convincing enough as he points one at Reiner.
