Mini Event Mingle: Halloween is Coming to Town

Halloween has been officially adopted as a holiday in Ellipsa. So the Summer Guild Leader, Dawn, has arranged a three day party to celebrate it. She has gotten a lot of people involved to make it as fun as possible! They are held at all of the guilds (Frostreign, Blossomcrown, Solarpeak, Amberfall).

All of the guilds are now connected through a mirror path. However, the paths have been made longer with the help of Riki's Rewards, so the journey from Guild A to Guild B isn't instant! Instead people will encounter the spooky corridor, full of silly ways to spook someone such as randomly appearing skeletons and ghosts. Usually these are just fake props or people hiding under a sheet - but occasionally there's an actual skeleton around and taking off his head to cite Shakespeare.

The aesthetics of the corridor change depending on what guilds it connects together. All of them are made to be spooky right now, but originally they were made to work as actual methods of traveling between the guilds, so it's not everything there is. The night skies with a creepy red full moons are just temporary!

At the guilds, all of the natives have dressed up in different costumes and are encouraging people to pick their own costume from the costume room setup. Unfortunately, some very mischievous fairies have gotten into the room undetected and may cast a spell that makes someone act like they're the character the costume represents.

There's also an option to get a random costume if someone feels daring.

Otherwise it's a party filled with different kinds of Halloween appropriate food and drinks. Cookies that look like skeletons, pudding made to look like brains, drinks that look like blood and so on. Even the actual food has somehow been made to look creepy.

By the end of the evening, anyone who hasn't screamed because they were scared will be gifted a special potion called shared bravery. It lets the user to share their bravery with others around them for five hours.

Eliza didn't like vampires, but this vampire costume had a very very pretty dress. It was a long black backless velvet dress which sparkled when the light caught it. She decided to where her hair up with it as well and swapped out her usual collar for the long black silk ribbon that came with the costume.

She felt like she looked stunning and was using that to boost her confidence as she sipped some wine, Red of course. And eyed one of the Mirror Paths.

"So...how do these work again?"

"Wow! You look so pretty, Eliza-chan!" Rinku absolutely sparkled. "It's so cool, isn't it?"

Hina, also in a little costume, squeaked and flew around Eliza. She couldn't see the vampire costume to appreciate that Eliza was dressed as the closest thing to her, but it sounded like she was having fun!

"Rinku! Thanks" Eliza blushed a little. "I saw this one and just couldn't resist."

She stays still as Hina flew around her, not wanting to disturb her flight pattern. "Do you like it little guy?"

"So what are you two dressed up as?" Eliza asked. It was kind of hard to see what Hina's costume was as she flapped around.

Hina squeaks and lands back on Rinku's head. Rinku giggles.

"She can't see, but she can echolocate, so I think she kinda has an idea of what's going on? But I bet she'd like your costume! Hina-chan's species drinks blood in the wild, so she likes vampire stuff. I think she thinks they're just Golbat."

Mecchan shyly peeked out from his mage cloak and clung to his staff (actually a novelty pen).

"We're an adventuring party, with Russell-kun! He's the hero. I'm a bard, Hina-chan is a barbarian, and Mecchan is a mage!"

"Oh like D&D? That's really clever!" Hina-chan and Mecchan a really well behaved to let you dress them up like that."

Mecchan is especially cute clinging to his staff like that.

"But if Hina-chan is like a vampire bat, what's a golbat?"

"Hm... big!" Rinku gestures. "They're what Zubat grow into when they grow up. She'll grow eyes and get pretty tall and be mostly mouth, which makes sense since she already eats so much." She reaches up and pets Hina with a giggle.

"It's hard to imagine someone so cute and tiny becoming mostly mouth." Eliza reaches over to pet Hina too if Rinku lets her.

"But if she drinks blood in the wild what do you feed her now?"

Rinku smiles and leans forward to let Eliza pet Hina. Hina nuzzles into the petting and squeaks happily.

"All kinds of things! I get Pokémon kibble sometimes, I have her on the Poison-type formula since it's good for her, but she eats human food too. And I give her juice boxes with blood replacements a lot. Eve-san suggested I go to the butcher and get real blood so maybe she'd stop biting people, so I started doing that and she really likes it... even though it's kinda gross." She laughs a little nervously. "But I wanna make sure she and Mecchan are healthy!"

"You've put a lot of work into looking after these little guys." Eliza was impressed. "You must really like them."

She'll try to pet Hina again if the Zubat lets her. "I know dietary requirements suck."

Hina absolutely allows pets, she loves people. Rinku makes a happy noise.

"I love them! They're so cute, and they deserve a good life. And since I'm taking care of them, I want them to be happy." She pets Mecchan to try to calm down his nerves. At the last bit, Rinku blinks. "Do you have stuff you can't eat, Eliza-chan?"

"Well... I am a vampire~" Eliza holds up two fingers curling them to mimic fangs. "Seriously though I know a vampire back home and she forgot to eat because we were busy and it turned into a whole mess."

"And apparently I need more meat in my diet, Max helped me figure that out."

She wasn't ready to admit that it was raw meat she needed since her first change, so far she had only even admitted to one person that she even was a werewolf never mind the problems that come with it.

Hina makes a happy squeak and smiles. She may actually believe Eliza is a vampire, she's baby.

"Oh, like those medical conditions where you need more iron and stuff? Aww." Rinku rubbed her chin. "I'm glad you know now! Davis-san always seems to know everything, doesn't he?"

"He does... it can be a little annoying at times." Eliza sighs, she knows she's being unfair but she is trying to get better. "But he's earned that knowledge the hard way and he does try to help people with what he knows."

"What did he help you with?"

Rinku pauses. She looks a little sad and shaken for a moment, but she pets Mecchan so he won't get worried, then smiles.

"A quest, a little bit ago -- a really hard one. And when it scared me --" she means traumatized, she's just not saying it, that's for people more hurt than she is, right? "-- he said he'd talk it through with me when I was ready. How'd you know he helped me, Eliza-chan?"

"He likes helping people, well I guess he likes making deals is more accurate." Eliza shrugged. "I figure anyone who knows him has had him help them at least once."

"And I'm sorry you had a scary quest." Eliza added, not really knowing what to say, but needing to say something. "I never know what to say when things like that happen."

She shakes her head. "I'm trying to get better. Stronger, like everyone else. I know I could just live a normal life, but isn't it better to help? And all these great things have happened because of it. Because of learning and fighting and this whole adventure. So I wanna keep trying."

She smiles, but it falls and she shakes her head.

"I'm trying. But I don't like killing, and I don't like hurting people."

Eliza struggled to figure out what to say to that.

"Only monsters like killing." She pointed out wrapping an arm around Rinku if she allows it. "Are you sure you don't want to try helping others fight instead? I learnt a fair bit of first aid as well as learning how to use a gun."

Rinku leaned against Eliza and thought. Mecchan looked nervously from one to the other.

"I don't wanna give up," she said. "Even if it's scary, even if it feels bad, we still need to do what we can to save the world. Some people can do stuff like first aid and healing or research into science and magic, but I can do this. I've been working hard, doing everything I can. Even if people haven't believed in me, and even if it scares me. Maybe it scares them, too."

Max is dressed like he's on vacation with a lei. He is sipping a red drink himself with a smile. He looks at the mirrors and back at Eliza.

"I think you use them to move between the guilds. Makes the travel super fast. You look fantastic, by the way."

"Why thank you." Eliza beemed instead of turning bashful as normal, she even did a little twirl to show off the dress more. "I couldn't resist the sparkle."

Eliza took a sip if her wine.

"And you are looking very colourful. On vacation tonight I take it?"

Max noticed and was curious. How much had she had to drink already?

"The sparkles suit you," He said. "Yeah. I'm a guy on vacation this Halloween. Nice, right? So. You thinking of exploring all the different festivities tonight? We could go together."

The glass is still mostly full, but it's impossible to tell if it's her first or fourth. Or if something else was affecting her.

"Hmmm, I was." Eliza nodded. "And company would be great. Anywhere you want to try first? Or do you just want to see where the night takes us?"

Could be a first, fourth, or fifth even. Still, best to test the waters. He chuckled and looked at the mirrors then back at Eliza.

"Let's see where the night takes us, shall we? I like a bit of improv. Don't you?"

"You know I prefer to plan a head. But one night can't hurt." Eliza started drinking more of her wine. "I probably should finish this first, don't want to spill it in transit."

"I know you do. But we do have a loose plan. Just spending the party together. So there is that," Max said as he raised his own glass.

"To a good time," He said and drank the rest of his drink.
