Halloween Is Coming to Town

Halloween has been officially adopted as a holiday in Ellipsa. So the Summer Guild Leader, Dawn, has arranged a three day party to celebrate it. She has gotten a lot of people involved to make it as fun as possible! They are held at all of the guilds (Frostreign, Blossomcrown, Solarpeak, Amberfall).

All of the guilds are now connected through a mirror path. However, the paths have been made longer with the help of Riki's Rewards, so the journey from Guild A to Guild B isn't instant! Instead people will encounter the spooky corridor, full of silly ways to spook someone such as randomly appearing skeletons and ghosts. Usually these are just fake props or people hiding under a sheet - but occasionally there's an actual skeleton around and taking off his head to cite Shakespeare.

The aesthetics of the corridor change depending on what guilds it connects together. All of them are made to be spooky right now, but originally they were made to work as actual methods of traveling between the guilds, so it's not everything there is. The night skies with a creepy red full moons are just temporary!

At the guilds, all of the natives have dressed up in different costumes and are encouraging people to pick their own costume from the costume room setup. Unfortunately, some very mischievous fairies have gotten into the room undetected and may cast a spell that makes someone act like they're the character the costume represents.

There's also an option to get a random costume if someone feels daring.

Otherwise it's a party filled with different kinds of Halloween appropriate food and drinks. Cookies that look like skeletons, pudding made to look like brains, drinks that look like blood and so on. Even the actual food has somehow been made to look creepy.

By the end of the evening, anyone who hasn't screamed because they were scared will be gifted a special potion called shared bravery. It lets the user to share their bravery with others around them for five hours.

Oh. [ Reiner reaches up to touch his jawline. ] No, this is just what I look like when I don't shave for a while.

[ It's a stark difference, but he hasn't realized how stark! ]

The costume made it grow in faster.

Oh! I thought it was shapeshifting to try and look different for the costume. It's pretty cool if the costume itself is magic.

[ Reiner shakes his head. ]

I'm an Autumn; I don't have that power. I think Summers do.

[ He says, not realizing (or perhaps remembering) that he's talking to one. ]

Oh, yeah. I kinda forget who all has which season, but I guess I haven't seen you around the Summer Guild a lot. Then again, people report to other people's guilds sometimes too anyway. I know when I got hurt really bad questing once, I went back to the Spring Guild instead since they're closer to a medi-clinic and they have all the healers.

It was a solid guess. Most people from my world are Summers.

[ If Reiner thought about it, he'd realize that statement is out of date. Most of those Summers have left Ellipsa; most of those who remain are Autumns like him.

His brow furrow slightly. ]

Were you able to get to the Spring Guild quickly?

Yeah, I used a Travel Crystal. They're really useful! Except when I forget to charge mine, that still happens sometimes.

That does sound handy. I've never used a personal one before.

[ And now he thinks he should probably pick one up. ]

You could put it on a charger with the rest of your supplies when you prepare for a quest. It can charge until the moment you leave.

[roundandaround]

Eh? There's chargers for magic energy? I always just use mine.

Oh, maybe not. [ Reiner scratches his freshly grown beard. ] If they don't exist, they should. You could charge the charger over time, then use it as needed.

[roundandaround]

Huh, maybe I should ask Neechan. The Research Centre comes up with all kinds of things, after all!

"Neechan"?

[ He repeats the word, unsure if it's a title or a name. ]

[roundandaround]

[blink blink] Yeah. Evangeline-neechan. Since my other sister from home isn't here, she's the only one.

Oh, sorry. I didn't know you and Evangeline are sisters.

[ Or maybe that knowledge slipped away from him. Who can say? In any case, he assumes their relationship is similar to Jean and his found-siblings. ]

Oh! That's okay. Huh, maybe I should be more obvious? Though I don't really know how to.

[ Briefly, Reiner imagines what Rinku making something "more obvious" might entail. Then he imagines Evangeline's reaction to it. ]

I think you're all right. I don't have any siblings, so it's harder for me to pick up on that stuff.

[roundandaround]

Really? [Rinku scratches her head.] I guess so. She's really great, though! You're friends too, right?

Yeah, we are. [ Reiner smiles fondly. ] She's a wonderful friend. One of the best ones I have.

[roundandaround]

[Mecchan nods and warbles. Evangeline is great! She's not scary at all (to a Sobble who's scared of everything)!]

We really love her too. I wanna make sure she can be happy like she is here.

[hometown]

[ Reiner nods along with Mecchan, agreeing with tone alone. ]

She deserves happiness. I think she's found some here.

[roundandaround]

Yeah... She always appreciates this place, even when she thinks it's weird. I think especially. I get worried.

Worried? Why is that?

[roundandaround]

Because of how bad her world was. If you're like "what's a union" or "how can you go out at night without getting murdered" or "no one died at work all week," doesn't it show how bad it was at home that these normal things are so amazing? I want to make sure Neechan never has to go through that again. That no one has to go through that again. And people with magitech research and world-crossing magic and all these other things are working so hard for that, but I can't do any of that stuff.

It occurs to Reiner has he hasn't told Rinku much about where he's from. Or rather, what life is like there. He hasn't described Titans, or the perilous state of Eldians, or the country he calls his own.

The dangers in Evangeline's world are different. But based on what Reiner has learned—both from Evangeline and from the reactions of others—his world is little better. ]

I understand that. My world is pretty rough, too; she and I have that in common. I'll bet she wants to stay here as much as you want her to stay.

[ He doesn't offer any placating words like, "Maybe that'll be enough." He knows it won't. Still, it means something that Rinku wants Evangeline to remain here so badly. ]

[Rinku nods. She's heard things from his castmates, among other sources. Mecchan shivers a little and blows a bubble.]
