Hmm, and here’s another.

[Baizhu crouches, picking up a small glass bauble from the ground and rolling it lightly across his palm. The white snake draped around his shoulders looks on, clearly unimpressed, and flicks out her tongue once before speaking.]

You’re getting more carelessssss the longer you sssspend here, doctor, [She tells him, watching the movement of his hands as he drops his latest treasure into a bag attached to the wrist of his other arm. He looks at her with a slightly raised eyebrow.]

You haven’t once worried about wassshing your hands while you pick dirty thingsss up from the ground.

[He does pause to think about that, looking down at his now empty hands and noting quietly where little smudges of dirt and grime have settled into the creases of his fingers and palms from his casual digging about in the undergrowth.]

I suppose not. [His expression softens a little.] How about that. I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about.

Not Mush More Room [GATHERER]

[Long before Baizhu realises his error in taking any of these interesting mushrooms home with him, he can be found plucking the persistent fungi off various surfaces in the manor, tucking them into a metal box he has held under his arm. They’d grow anywhere, they said, but how much can a mushroom really grow when metal is the only thing it has to get purchase on?

Surely it can’t be all that bad.]

I’m sure I know of a botanist or two back home who would find this terribly intriguing… [He muses as he twirls one between his thumb and forefinger, getting a good look at it.]

And I can hardly fault those behind it. How would we make progress if people were not willing to push boundaries?

Blood for the Blood God [CRIME-adjacent]

[The doctor would never give up samples of blood and tissue that had been given to him for his own experiments and research, but that doesn’t stop somebody finding a very sudden and unwelcome interest in Baizhu’s ‘collection’.

He stands between his research space and a very persistent ‘visitor’ who ‘just wants to look around’, blocking the way in with one arm braced against the door frame and a thunderous expression on his face.]

That is quite enough, I’ll have you--

[For what he might have done, no one is going to know. His opponent suddenly draws a knife, only to find themselves abruptly launched backwards by a blast of green Dendro magic hitting them in the chest. A shield pulses and swirls around Baizhu’s body as he breathes hard, and a noisy alarm begins to sound.]

Oh, for goodness’ sake…

[He rubs one of his temples. One of the other people here must have hit a panic button…]
