[ kaveh takes another couple of minutes to himself, to let it all out, because he can't quite pull himself together... but he doesn't want to keep losing it in front of ayato. he knows he's trying to hold it together for the both of them, but he shouldn't have to. kaveh needs to pull his weight. he takes a step back and wipes away the tears from his eyes. ] I... I know. [ ayato most definitely is the only other person that's going to be capable of understanding everything he's been through... but only because he went through it too. ] I know it's been a few days, but it's all still so... fresh. [ he takes a deep breath. ]

I just need a few minutes. We shouldn't keep Olwen waiting. [ he gives him a small crooked smile. ] Do you want to get Thoma and Alhaitham?

{ ayato, sadly, is used to doing this where needed though. for years he's been the one to keep collected while other people give into grief. he'll have his time after things are sorted, and only then will he allow himself to properly break down.

he had a small cry on thoma when he got back, again a little when he told ayaka what happened. but both instances were more like his eyes leaking water while the rest of him tried to hold it in. }

It hasn't been long at all, I know. Do you need anything before I tell them to get ready to go? Or perhaps after we've been? There's a question I want to ask Olwen unrelated to this I'll ask both of you to step outside for, as I don't think it will be relevant. It will give you time to lean on Alhaitham as you need as well. Then perhaps later on... we could have drinks? If it's too soon, that isn't a worry. I can wait until you're ready.

...no. Just tell them to get ready to head out. [ he's going to turn and step back inside. ] All I need is a few minutes. [ but that next bit about olwen does give him pause. ] Oh? [ he peers over his shoulder. ] If you don't think so... [ he continues inside and heads for the bedroom, saying nothing further and leaving ayato to get their boyfriends ready. ]

[ as for the drinks they can discuss that more following their talk with olwen. kaveh's not going to make anymore promises beforehand, because he doesn't know how he'll be feeling. everything's dependent on that talk. ]

{ he gives a nod in return to that. }

Very well. I'll see you in a moment.

{ and honestly fair, he doesn't expect it to be today either, really. he doesn't know how he'll be after this either, even if his notebook (that he collects from the kitchen table on the way) has most of what he needs to say written down.

but he'll tell alhaitham and thoma they should be ready to leave shortly, and that kaveh is just getting ready in what he assumes is their bedroom. }

[ as soon as the talk has come to a close kaveh feels both better and worse. he's glad that olwen is taking their concerns to heart and is already coming up with a plan to put a barrier around the mansion that's going to prevent people from just wandering inside. it will, however; take a few days to erect. ]

[ kaveh manages to hold it together throughout the entire meeting... leaving ayato at the end to ask olwen whatever he likes. he needs some fresh air anyway, because having to hear all about their exploits has made him feel unbelievably nauseous. once ayato rejoins him, ] Did you want to go out for drinks? Or did you want to head back home? It has been a long day...

{ his own mindset is mixed, if only because while what they went through has been awful, olwen has agreed to take on some of the research and ensuring safety of people here. after arranging a chat later to know when it would be safe to notify people and kaveh had left, he'd asked things regarding after their time here is done and over with. he'd asked about possibilities of going elsewhere.

and olwen had given him hope.

it doesn't really show on his face now he's outside in the fresh air, and he knows thoma is probably still lingering and waiting for what he wants to do next too. }

Perhaps we could compromise, and have drinks at either of our places?

...sure, yeah, that makes the most sense, probably. We have plenty of alcohol at our place if you wanted to come back over. Thoma's welcome to join you too. If he'd like to, of course. [ since he's not sure the blond wants to leave ayato's side. he figures he might as well extend the invitation. ] If he's not interested in booze, then we have tea and coffee and water. [ you know, drinks! ]

[ kaveh's feeling antsy though, because he doesn't want to be sober anymore. this day has gone on long enough... ~~and it's still before noon.~~ ]

We can do it that way. I'm not sure if he'd like to join us, considering he doesn't drink, but I don't think he'd mind if I spent a few hours away. I'll likely just need to keep in touch.

...fair, that's fair. I figured I would extend the invitation in the off chance he wanted to hang around you and make sure things were... alright. [ he clears his throat. ] In any case... let's head back to my apartment. I have something I think you'll enjoy. A fragrant wine I just picked up.

{ he nods at that. }

I think after what we just heard, both of us may need a little time to process it. I... can explain while we drink, if you're interested. And I can always ensure to spend the next few days with him to make up for it. At the moment, after that talk, I'd like to spend time with you if possible. { he takes a deep breath } It's probably strange to hear, but I imagine just like Thoma and Alhaitham want to keep checking we're both here, I have... the same feeling.

I'll just need to let him know, but I could meet you there if you'd prefer not to wait?

... [ hm. ] I am curious. [ kaveh nods, giving ayato a small smile. ] I, yes, I know what you... mean. [ although perhaps ayato feels that more strongly since he had to watch him die, something that kaveh still feels incredibly guilty about. if he could have, then perhaps he should have tried to convince the monster to follow him elsewhere temporarily... or at least moved into another room... ]

[ he shakes his head of those thoughts. ] I do want to spend some time with you too. Ah, that might be better, honestly. [ he wants to go home right now, and he'll just stand here buzzing if he's got to wait. ] I'll meet you back at our apartment. It gives me time to get things ready. I'll... I'll see you then.

{ he gives a nod in response to that. and he won't linger on that topic more, he's said why, not to make kaveh feel guilty but to understand that this is important to him as well at the moment--thoma will likely understand that. }

We can discuss it shortly then. { and at least with that, he gives the other a small smile. } I'll see you at the apartment shortly.

[ he knows that he hadn't said it to make him feel guilty. kaveh just can't help let everything get to him right now. ]

[ he nods and heads off with alhaitham, going back to their apartment. he doesn't do much besides pick out the wine and set a few glasses on the living room table, taking his sketch pad out and attempting to draw... something. he's unsuccessful, but he doesn't want to sit and do nothing until ayato arrives. ]

{ really he doesn't take too long to make his way to kaveh and alhaitham's apartment. most of the time is spent reassuring thoma he'll keep in touch, and that he'll likely only be gone a couple of hours.

a little of the time is calling at a shop that sells alcohol to get a few items as a means of thank you for inviting him over--trying to have manners despite likely really not needing it at the moment.

besides, he's still very fond of sake and he knows somewhere in sunwaning that sells decent bottles of it. he'll knock once he's there though, bag in his hand as he waits for the door to be answered. }

[ kaveh answers the door a few moments later, ] Come on in, Ayato. [ he steps aside and motions for him to make his way in. ] I thought we'd be more comfortable in the living room. [ he closes the door once his friend is inside, the octocat hiding beneath the table and trying to gank the inkwell that kaveh had been using to sketch. as soon as he sees ayato he bolts... at least for now. ]

I'm sure you remember Naji. [ he takes a seat on the couch, closing his sketchbook and moving the inkwell and quill aside, so he can move the bottle of wine front and center to be uncorked. ]

{ he steps inside, toeing his shoes off on the way and nudging them out of the way. he'll hold up the bag he brought after. }

Thank you. I thought since the bottle may only get us so far, I would bring more just in case. Granted, this is much stronger, so I would hope we don't try and finish this today.

{ he'll follow the other through, surprised by the way the octocat rushes off at the sight of him this time. }

How could I forget? I didn't ask before, but I assume that it's a pet you acquired here?

...ah!, thank you, Ayato. Always thinking ahead. [ he smiles and kneels in front of the table on one of the pillows that he set around it. he thought he might try making it more comfortable for ayato this time around, since he had mentioned a tradition from back home on the airship... and that's kind of the only thing he wants to remember from the trip. ] I mean, you might not want to finish it, but... I do...

He's a pet that followed us home after a quest.

{ he blinks as he looks at the table and how kaveh set it up, a small warm smile on his face that only shows a smidgen of how much that means to him. he doesn't expect anyone to try their customs for their sake, so it means a lot he does. }

Wine is much weaker than this, Kaveh. I don't want to have to explain to Alhaitham why you can't get up off the floor or if you are sick everywhere.

From the ship?

Ayato. [ he pours them both some wine. ] Ayato. [ as if saying his name a second time is going to be enough to convince him. ] It'll be fine. I'll be fine. [ a smile to match his confidence as he slides a glass across the table to his friend. ] Let's start with the wine and then we can move to this 'stronger stuff'. I can hold my liquor pretty well. [ no he fucken can't, lol. ]

Y- Yes, actually. Did you go to it too? We, er, Mehrak managed to find some treasure there while Alhaitham and I were busy dealing with the Octocat problem... and when we finally tried to leave this little guy followed us. We had scared his family off, so I think that's why he tried to tail us, so I stuck around and tried to see if they'd come back... but they didn't. Eventually I gave up and... now he's ours.

{ the second time of calling his name does not convince him, kaveh. you are, after all, a lightweight. }

We can see how it goes, certainly. But if you don't mind, I'll handle pouring out the sake.

I was there briefly, but neither myself nor the person I was with tried very hard. { ayato sighs } I am not much of a cat person.

... [ hm. it doesn't seem like he's going to be able to convince him... now. he'll take the loss. ] Alright, fine.

No? Did you go and then... leave? It was infested with them, but we managed to clear them out pretty... easily. [ "easily". ] Except for this little one. [ and the octocat has come back, but only to try to snatch another something off the table. what? it doesn't seem to matter, it just wants to cause some mischief. ] A dog person?

{ not until he's drunk as well--and that's a difficult hurdle to cross. }

Exactly. The two of that went looked at it, attempted to go around them and left when it appeared we'd be disturbing their home. I think my companion at the time was worried their brother would have wanted him to bring some back.

And yes, I have no shame in saying that. Dogs are loyal and follow orders, there's much more to be appreciative of.

Makes sense, but it might have been for the best that you didn’t get too close… the kittens aren’t dangerous, mischievousness aside, but the adults are capable of secreting something that affects how a person acts… Alhaitham nearly went mad that day.

…heh. [ a knowing smirk as he sips his wine. ] Needy too. And a little too eager to please. [ is he still talking about dogs? ]

That sounds rather unusual... Considering this seemed like it was a while ago, I assume the effects wore off on their own?

{ he will quietly swirl the liquid in his glass, appreciating the scent of it first. } There's nothing wrong with that.

{ it works either way tbh... he won't deny it either way. }

...mm, that day. It took a bit. He's obviously fine now. It had come as a surprise, is all, because once again we're in the middle of a quest and the proverbial shit hits the fan. [ he sets his hand down and wiggles his fingers at the cat who comes over and attaches himself to kaveh's arm. he flinches, but brings him into his lap to pet his head. ]

But I don't think I'm going to go on any quests for a while. [ he takes another few sips of wine. ] I'm not really sure I want to do much of... anything. I'm... I don't know... I feel lost. [ he finishes off the glass and sets it down. ] Confused, too.
