He does. Alhaitham isn't interested in the limelight. He was acting Grand Sage of Sumeru for some time and he couldn't wait to return to his job as a humble scribe.

Mm, true, but there's something about going out and getting out of the house that I prefer. We can mix it up though, so we both don't go broke drinking ourselves silly. [ kaveh, there's only one of the two of you that does that. ]
