Sawyer's Return

Sawyer, the Autumn Guild Leader, addresses the network on noon on the 19th. He's back from wherever he has been since disappearing in November. The message goes as follows.

"This is Sawyer. I lead the Autumn Guild as the last Autumn Power Holder native to this world. I was accused of crimes relating to the portal mysteries and sabotage in the Research Center in November. Well, I guess I still am.

I managed to track down the real culprit, but couldn't capture them. Instead, I got the device they used just before they disappeared into yet another portal. The device still has the coordinates to the location they went to. Instead of pursuing them myself, I'm asking for everyone's help, since I got injured fighting them. I'm leaving the device to Olwen, along with a file on another incident, and letting Harrison put me in jail until the real culprit is captured. Hopefully after Jade looks me over.

Anyway, I'm counting on all of you to capture the bastard. They go by the name "The Doctor".

Harrison, I'm waiting behind the Amberfall Guild."

Any inquiries about the video will be met with a "We are forming a plan of action, please wait" for the first few days after. But everyone will be assures that Sawyer did get medical attention before taken away! (Handwaved) Visitations are permitted while he's in custody.

(Duration: Whole month)

Part 1

There is some really good news following the slightly worrying news from before: The Fairy Queen has reacquired all of her powers! That's why anyone who is interested is invited to Amberfall to gain an upgrade for their seasonal powers. This upgrade comes in the form of a magical tattoo. These tattoos not only give boosts but it can also move around one's body (for example, if someone's tattoo is a bird, the bird can fly around, especially when powers are activated).

These tattoos are permanent by default, but they can also be temporary should the person wish so. Temporary tattoos will wear out in a month (or earlier, if the tattoo is in constant use).

The basic effect of the tattoo is simple: seasonal powers stronger against the dark energy, meaning everyone will be able to fight creatures coated in it easier. That is, however, not the only effect; two more effects can be chosen when the tattoo is made, from a pool of choices provided.

Tattoo extra effects
• Danger Sense (gives an ability to sense danger in the surroundings)
• Door Creation (lets the user create a temporary fake door to pass through walls and other obstacles)
• Elemental Resistance (one element) (can be chosen twice)
• Enhanced Sense (choose one of the basic senses) (can be chosen twice)
• Guardian Spirit (summons an astral being to physically protect them, in the shape of something important to them - stays for an hour per summon)
• Mermaid Song (gives an ability to be able to heal minor injuries with singing)
• Minor Regeneration Powers (automatically heal minor injuries)
• New Element creation and manipulation (choose from electricity, light, neutral) (can be chosen twice)
• Retrocognition (able to see an item's past by touching it (does not work on living things))
• X-Ray Vision (lets user see through walls and other objects by touching them (does not work on living things))

All extra effects of the tattoo drain magical energy just like any other abilities do. If someone is low on magical powers, the tattoo will look like it's faded out (animal based tattoos may even start sleeping). No one automatically masters these abilities, so it might take some time to get used to them and properly use them in a fight.

Part 2

Various booths have been set all around Nightwake that let people test their new abilities. Most of the booths utilize just one ability (like being attacked by a water balloon with a blindfold on to test danger sense or test their enhanced senses) but some of them have several ways to complete them. They vary from obstacle courses to target shooting. These are mostly fun, harmless things

There's also just general fighting areas set up for people to just fight it out with their new abilities (they know by now that otherworlders love their fights). There are also robots that are installed with various martial arts to use as opponents, for those who prefer not to fight other people.

Bigger on the Inside

(Duration: January 22nd -> 26th)

Part 1

Olwen, the Winter Guild Leader, is the next one to address everyone through a message sent to all devices. It's an invitation to join him in tracking down and capturing The Doctor, but also for anyone who wishes to join the support side of things. The team will be gathering in Blossomcrown Park, on the 22nd of January at noon, where he will explain the plan.

The park has several tents set up. All of them are somehow related to aiding the fighters who will be entering the portals, so all non-combatants will be asked to man them. There are healing, food and even touch energy tents. After an analyzation done on the portal device, it seems that touch energy will drain faster inside the portals than they do normally.

Before the portal is opened, Olwen greets and thanks everyone for coming. He will explain that their primary goal is to find The Doctor, but also prevent monsters from entering Nightwake while the portal is open (it cannot be shut while someone is inside, unless you're someone like The Doctor). He explains that the nature of this portal is otherwise still unknown and he advises anyone who starts feeling bad in any way to return to Nightwake right away.

Once everyone is done with preparations Olwen activates the portal device and leads the way inside, holding a sword and shield in hand.

Part 2

When people first enter the portal they are met with a breathtaking view. It looks as if the water surface and the sky melt together, as the water reflects the starry sky. On the water there are several rowing boats. Once at least two people are inside a boat it will start moving across the surface of water and will eventually disappear into a mist (all except for Olwen, who disappears alone for some reason, who tells everyone to stay focused on the mission before the mist takes him).

The boats take people into sceneries that reflect their seasons. If there's more than one season on the same boat the scenery will be a mix of them.

• Winter is a cave of ice and water, filled with monsters named Glaciduets (Rock monsters with various animal bodies that shoot ice and rocks as weapons)
• Spring is a place among the clouds, filled with monsters named Galeduets (Birds that are partially fishes, that use sharp winds and icicles as weapons and dive among the clouds)
• Summer is a village that is burning, filled with monsters named Flameduets (Various dinosaurs with wings that use fire and wind as their weapons)
• Autumn is a rainy forest filled with monsters named Terraduets (Skeletons with fiery armor that use earth and fire as their weapons)

All of the monsters are far sturdier than they look and can provide to be difficult opponents. To proceed, they all (at least five monsters, can be more) have to be defeated and if any of them get past them into the mist the people entered from they will attempt to enter the portal into Nightwake. The mist is also the way to escape and return to regroup if needed.

Part 3

Defeating enough monsters will destroy the space they entered. Once enough spaces are destroyed, one final space is revealed (this will take a few days, there are a lot of these spaces). It's where Olwen can be seen fighting a masked, hooded person. Olwen is using his sword, water and ice - while the other figure uses force fields to protect themselves from magic and two swords. From the looks of it, the fight is rather even.

Those who try to help Olwen will be met with another force field around the area, preventing anyone from entering. Destroying the devices making the field will help Olwen get past the villain's defenses, but they're guarded by shadow monsters called Shadow Moths (This creature takes the shadows of people to become bigger and faster. It usually takes the form of a giant mothman that has shadowy vines as its weapons. If hit by the vines, characters would start doing everything backwards).

Once the devices have been destroyed, Olwen manages to encase the figure in ice before collapsing on the ground himself from exhaustion. All that's left now is to get both the ice covered villain and Olwen out of the portal and closing the portal - but with that, it's mission accomplished.

The masked villain (still frozen) will be taken by the Law Enforcement into custody to be questioned while Olwen gets Jade (Spring Guild Leader) to look after him right away. Olwen is tired, but thanks everyone who came to help with the mission (whether fighting or supporting) with a healthy sum of 20,000 Moon Coins.

Epilogue

With The Doctor in custody, Sawyer is free. Harrison makes a public apology, which Sawyer accepts and a viral video can be seen of all the guild leaders hugging him and telling him how they always believed in him. Are those tears in Sawyer's eyes? You must be seeing things!

Information about the villain will be given at a later date, once they manage to interrogate them. Meanwhile Sawyer will return to his guild duties. This time actually doing them without (as many) complaints.

Waiting in the Shadows
(Duration: January 28th - 31st)

Part 1

The Research Center Leader, Helene, and the Fairy Queen have been working on a project while the Portal fight has been going on. They send a message that there's another mission to take to those who are interested, with a 50,000 moon coins reward because of how dangerous and important this mission is.

Those who agree to take on the mission are asked to take at least a temporary magical tattoo. Those who already have a tattoo (permanent or temporary) will have theirs temporarily enhanced. This is the only requirement to participate in the mission. The enhancements for the tattoo are to protect the user from what they are about to face and make magic work against it - as well as work as an emergency exit if all else fails.

Explanation of what they are about to face is a dangerous entity once faced by two otherworlders. It has been named the All-Consuming Darkness: an experiment made by the Doctor that was meant to be unleashed to destroy the barriers around Ellipsa. Under normal circumstances it would eat any attacks delivered at it. But with the Fairy Queens magic tattoo boosts that danger will be out of the way.

After all the preparations and explanations, they are advised to take the new, temporary teleport crystal out to the Autumn Segment, straight to the Abandoned Mansion.

Part 2

The Abandoned Mansion is a creepy, old two story building that looks quite rundown. It's surrounded by mist that expands into the forest. There's not much to look at on the outside, other than two tombstones with the names of Kamisato Ayato and Kaveh on them. Anyone who has previously visited the mansion might remember they definitely weren't there before June, when the place was sealed.

Magical tattoos let everyone pass through the barrier and into the house. The strategy is simple: find all the arms of the monster, spread out to the mansions every room, and destroy them. With the boost from the tattoos all attacks can now deal damage, but the monster can still inflict status effects (silence, stun, burn, poison) and the air around it generally feels poisoned.

The being itself has no actual figure. It's a shapeless blob of mass that attacks people relentlessly with its arms. It will also try to capture anyone it can and eat them to make itself bigger, since it no longer can consume attacks to do so. Even with the magical tattoo boost it's still a difficult opponent to face.

Those that do get eaten will receive their own tombstone outside. It seems it appears automatically after death.

Everyone is also advised to retreat if they need to, which they can do by passing the barrier out of the house. With how many arms the being has the fight may take a while.

Part 3

Once all the arms are destroyed, the shadow blob will evaporate and the eerie feeling that was all over the place will vanish. The spirits that were guarding the doors will open the windows and doors, relieved that the danger was now gone. It's almost as if the nature was celebrating too, as sun beams start to fill the mansion as well.

The teleport crystals will take them back, but there's also a promise of a free luxury airship ride back for those who want to pamper themselves for a job well done. The airship is parked at the Autumn Airship Station.

• Smut is not allowed on the event post, so if your thread is heading that way, please move it to a private entry of your own (your own entry or a new locked post on the comms).

• Remember to content and spoiler warn as necessary!

• Characters are responsible for coming up with their designs for the tattoos or at least ideas for them (the fairies doing the tattoos can offer options). As a bonus, there's no healing time for the tattoos, as they are completely magical! It also doesn't hurt (unless the person is very sensitive to it, then it might. Player's choice). Everyone is also allowed to get temporary tattoos first before committing to a permanent one (the limit is one permanent tattoo per character).

• Those with special skin (mechanical or otherwise) will still be able to get a tattoo, as they are magical. Even those whose skin would normally regenerate (like titan shifters) can have a tattoo stay permanently. These tattoos will also be available as "aesthetic only" ones after the event.

• Neutral Element is what it says on the tin. It's a shapeless energy that usually takes a blank, white form (but can be different colored, too). No creature is super weak against the element, but none of them resist it either; it's the element that will always deal damage, no matter what.

[Saya would have a heart attack if Kantera actually entered the portals to fight, so instead he's sitting in a tent waiting for wounded warriors to return in need of healing. As soon as someone hurt enters, he's up on his feet.]

[If you happen to be hanging around the tents while there isn't anyone injured to treat, you'll find him working on knitting something... though it's hard to say what it is intended to be other than 'a lump'.]

[Barghest had gladly accepted the Fairy Queen's boon, now sporting a tattoo in the shape of a noble wolf on her back. Well, usually on her back anyway.

Testing her new magic went well enough. The targets provided were met with blasts of glowing Neutral energy, but things became... interesting when testing the guardian spirit.

The form of the Guardian settled into a woman made of shadows, clad in armor and carrying a great shield. What little that can be made out of her expression is blank, but she stands protectively near Barghest regardless.]

A Shadow Servant... of her? I see. I am grateful for your protection, Fairy Knight Galahad.

Bigger on the Inside Part 2

[Barghest was... slightly uncomfortable in the rowboat. She's a large woman, and her armor doesn't help her take up any less room. However, that awkwardness fades the moment she lays eyes on the Terraduets. The ears she's taken to giving herself perk up, and her tail starts wagging at the sight of them.]

Please, leave the skeletons to me. Fire has little effect on me, and earth is not much different. I can dispatch them easily.

...I ask that you ignore any crunching you may hear. ...Please.

A creature like this... It is far too reminiscent of one of the Calamities that Faerie Britain faced every hundred years. I would be remiss to not at least attempt to rout it.

[And so, Barghest joined the team exploring the Abandoned Mansion. Her Guardian has not been summoned yet, but she's ready to call it at any time.]

[Touch Energy Tents]

[Sayaka was still very new, and a lot of this was still something she was processing - but as she understands it, any kind of touch energy can energize other people. And if the portals drain it faster, then they desperately need as much help as they can get.

She's still finding herself here, but she knows she can't do anything about her situation right now - which means she needs to help others. It's what she was doing for someone back home, and it is needed of her here too.

She's all smiles, but anyone who can sense emotion or even read a person's face well enough can tell she's unnerved.

If someone peeks in, she'll welcome them in and hold hands with them, or even hug them if she feels comfortable enough - either way, long enough to energize the person that's going through the portals.

Otherwise, she can be found poking her head around the other tents when there's less people coming through, getting a feel for the place and the people around her.]

[Amy felt like she could take on the world. The tattoo on her back, resembling her iconic hammer, just made her magic so much stronger. But, she had something even cooler to mess with!

One of the new abilities was to create doors! Of course, the magic wasn’t completely perfect for her and now she was stuck between floors, upside down. On the ceiling was an upset hedgehog girl from the waist up trying to push herself out. On the floor above is a pair of legs, skirting bent to hide everything, kicking and flailing as she tries to escape.]

[Amy figured that, with her magic not in the best position, it was best to stay in the tents. For the moment, she’ll be bouncing around, keeping an eye on people who need touch magic or making sure any monster that tries to peek through gets hammered.]

[Rinku insisted on coming despite that most everyone who knows her seems put off by her trying to become a combatant. She's on your squad, so some Flameduets are rampaging and part of the scenery is on fire. She takes a deep breath, summons a flame that she shapes into a sword, and grabs it.]

[Rinku flops into the tent and groans, sore and practically out of magic and stamina alike. She'll reach for you, whether you're an assigned healer or not, and cling onto you.]

[Rui is experimenting with his new abilities. Good news, he's starting off practicing his electricity powers small...Bad news, he doesn't have any control of it, so his attempts to hit targets has been going poorly. At least he hasn't hit anyone yet? That could always change with some of the close calls he's been having.]

II. Bigger on the Inside

[It may be a bad thing that Rui is using this as an opportunity to practice his Spring powers, but he's not really worried about morals right now. He's currently in one of the healing tents, going back and forth between patients.]

[Yeah, that's the line he's decided to open with as he stands behind an ice-capped boulder with his supposed comrade-in-arms. His smile isn't exactly the most reassuring either, too cheery, not an ounce of sincerity behind it at all. Maybe it's meant to be a joke with a very flat delivery, maybe it's not. He will neither confirm or deny.

Though he does plan on following through with his word, it's funnier to watch people try to figure him out first.]

[Tents]

[Fortunately, the portal fights didn't prove to be challenging enough for him to get seriously injured. Just enough to require a bit of patching up, some healing, and some rest... that is if he would actually bother resting.

Resting is terribly dull, you see, so he has started to take it upon himself to be a pest to the staff, and sneak off his cot to do small odds and ends tasks. Currently, he just finished making a nice cup of tea- and just in time for someone to arrive in the tent with him. A healer? Another of the injured? Someone lost? Who knows, he’s greeting them all the same regardless.]

Ah, I don't suppose you would care for a cup of tea, would you?

[Mansion Fight CW:Injury]

[Unlike the portal fights, things don't go quite as smoothly in the mansion. Holdover fatigue and minor injuries had Jade slower than usual, and couple that with him simply not being the most athletically qualified individual around- well, it got Jade in a bit of trouble.

One of the arms had gotten a hold of his leg, and in a desperate attempt to free himself, he put everything he had in an attack to repel it. His plan worked in that the arm let go and retreated, but it meant his leg got caught up in the attack, and he was left stranded in a side room with limited mobility. He could use a rescue.]

[Post Mansion Fight CW:Injury]

[After that whole fiasco, Jade was treated and sent home to recover, and after a few days he's well enough to hobble around with a crutch. Feel free to presume they fought together or interacted during the previous events and visit him. Possibly scold him for being incapable of resting properly (dinner isn’t going to make itself).]

[Tau is holding a piece of paper with a cute griffin design in one hand, and one with a magical girl looking crescent moon and wings in the other, and looking between the two.]

II. Color Me Inked Pt 2

[After Tau received her tattoo, she immediately goes to the booths to practice. She's not sure how danger sense works, so she's at the water balloon booth first. She's able to dodge the water balloons coming, and by the end she even almost has a smile on her face.]

Oh...is my turn over...already?

III. Waiting in the Shadows Pt 1

[As soon as she arrives at the mansion, she notices the two tombstones. This is not a good idea for her normal life plan, is it? She's probably staring at them a little too long. She tears her eyes away from them and towards the door.]

Let us...get this over with...

IV. Waiting in the Shadows Pt 2

Yuuto-nii?

[Tau had initially come to keep an eye on her brother, but the two of them had gotten separated somewhere in the mansion. It probably isn't wise to keep calling out when there is something that could kill her around, so she shuts up, summons a sword from her dreams, and starts moving.

Her danger sense doesn't trigger, but she still gets her sword ready when she hears someone coming around the corner.]

Color Me Inked

[Rika is a bit squeamish about the idea of a tattoo at first. She's sure that her friends would have a lot to say on the matter... but if a bit of ink can help Rika to help others, then it's well worth it. She has a butterfly put on her neck, behind her hair. She then spends the better part of the day practicing with her mermaid singing and door creation.

She's shy about singing. Because of this, Rika can't hit all of the notes that she wants to and instead lets her voice crack quietly. A confidence boost might be all that she needs.

But with door creation, Rika is straight-up frightened the first few times. She touches a wall and a door pulses into existence, causing Rika to stumble back. She watches it with an anxious expression;]

[Now that she's more confident with her singing, Rika is able to offer some singing to heal people. But instead of ballades or lullabies, Rika sings childish nursery rhymes;]

[Maybe this is a bad idea. Rika is already inside the mansion when her self doubt gets especially loud in her ears. She's not a good fighter and barely knows how to use her abilities... But she can't stand by and do nothing anymore.

She takes another step, as if her feet are enforcing her resolve, and breaths deeply.]

1) Sawyer's Return

[After Sawyer's disappearance back in November, Hijikata discussed the situation with Otherworlder Ambassador Ayato as well as with his guild leader Dawn, but ultimately no leads as to his whereabouts could be established. The only thing they all agreed on was that it seemed unlike Sawyer, unmotivated as he might be as a guild leader, to cause such serious chaos. As such, this update from the young man himself is a big relief! Hijikata will discuss the news with anyone who'll listen.]

First the Wizard, now the Doctor... what's up with those monikers? I can't wait to find out who the hell those clowns are and why they're so intent of messing with us!

2) Color Me Inked (Part I)

[It seems that the dangerous and disorienting expedition into the fairy dimension was worth it! Much as Hijikata doesn't want to look like a yakuza member, he simply can't ignore the prospect of new powers, so he signs himself up to receive a large stylised dragon tattoo on one shoulder (it extends down his back, arm, and collarbone a little). Of course he could've gotten a smaller, more subtle one, but he's hoping to invoke a specific guardian spirit... after all, the dragon spirit he temporarily commanded on Avalon helped him save souls that would otherwise have been lost, ghosts that became his subordinates.

Once the tattoo is done, he marvels at its movement on his skin. If he notices someone else looking, he'll shoot them a grin.]

Amazing, isn't it? I'll just have to tell him to hide when I'm going to the onsen back home.

3) Color Me Inked (Part II)

[While Hijikata expects his guardian spirit to only show itself when he's actually in danger, he wants to test out his second new ability: Lightning creation and manipulation. He targets a training dummy and summons... fire.]

Oh man. I guess I'll have to get in tune with the lightning first.

[That means meditation and getting to know the element... it's going to be such a slog!! But at least he does know what to do.]

4) Bigger on the Inside (Part I & II)

[There's no way Hijikata won't help Olwen capture that ominous Doctor! With his mana at full capacity, his body in full health, and his Hammerspace Bag full of useful items, he follows him into the portal. Once inside, he barely appreciates the gorgeous view of the night sky reflected in the water before entering one of the small boats. Whoever joins him will find the samurai pretty gung-ho for the mission.]

I can't wait to kick that Doctor's ass. I bet he doesn't even have a license!

[Maybe he should focus more on the fact that the boat has started moving on its own...]

5) Bigger on the Inside (Part III)

[Once they make it to Olwen and the Doctor, Hijikata promptly moves to support the winter guild leader - only to run into the invisible barrier face-first.]

Ugh... okay.

[A look around the area reveals a circle of... generators? He's not sure, really, but given the devices' orientation towards the battle and the fact that they're guarded by strange moth-person-looking creatures, he has a pretty good idea of what to do next. He draws his sword.]

Let's take care of this!

6) Waiting in the Shadows (Part I & II)

[50,000 Moon Coins?! Of course he's going! But frankly, he'd participate in this battle even if there were no reward at all, given how dangerous this monster is. Besides, Ayato and Kaveh deserve to be avenged!

On arrival, he notices those tombstones... eerie!! Who set them up?! Inside the mansion, breathing feels awful as the air almost stings in his lungs, so he fishes his regained Magic Mask out of his Hammerspace Bag. Once he puts it on, the simple black face mask takes on an oni snarl design. He points at the nearest monster arm pouring out of a hallway.]

This one's ours!

[He draws his sword and summons a crackling sphere of lightning in the other hand. It's on!]

7) Waiting in the Shadows (Part III)

[With the mission successfully completed, Hijikata can't help the smug smile on his face as he enjoys a drink on the luxurious airship ride back home.]

They really know how to keep us motivated. Other worlds that need help across the multiverse could take a page out of their book!

[Frieda is a little startled by the sudden transmission, and as Sawyer explains his situation, she grows all the more concerned. What's been going on? She feels out of the loop. If she notices anyone nearby who also watched the broadcast as it ends, she'll approach them.]

I'm sorry, but would you by any chance know more about the crimes Sawyer was talking about? I only recently arrived, and it sounds quite concerning.

2) Color Me Inked (Part I & II)

[Normally, Frieda wouldn't get a tattoo. They're a decoration mostly sported by criminals back home, and certainly not becoming of a member of a ~~royal~~ noble family! In her circumstances, however, she feels compelled to engage in the taboo. She hasn't been pulling her weight at all thus far when it comes to saving Ellipsa, only just having enrolled in classes at the Magical Manor thanks to her friend Jade's encouragement... she wants to help!

As such, she lets herself be given a tattoo that matches her Mermaid Necklace seashell pendant in shape, size, colour and placement when worn (she brought it along to show to the fairy). She looks at it in a hand mirror once it's completed. She'll only be able to test her new Mermaid Song ability once someone is hurt, but as for the retrocognition (which she's already all too familiar with when it comes to touching items that belong to fellow Eldians)... she turns to a fellow otherworlder, ideally a non-human (otherwise, who's to say that they can't happen to be from her world?).]

Excuse me, but would it be alright if I touched something that belongs to you to test my new ability? If it works, I'll be able to see the item's past.

[She has to disclose that! After all, she really wouldn't want anyone to touch any of her belongings from home. She has too many secrets... or, well, it's really just one, but it's terrible!]

3) Bigger on the Inside (Part I)

[While the combatants, led by Olwen, depart into the portal, Frieda stays behind with the other support volunteers. She brought her own newly bought kettle and sets up a fireplace so she can brew the healing potion Jade taught her to make, glad that she can contribute something more potentially life-saving than only food and touch energy. While the potion cooks, she looks towards the portal with concern.]

I hope they'll be alright in there...

[If someone else appears similarly worried, she'll give them a sympathetic smile.]

4) Bigger on the Inside (Part II)

[At one point, there's movement in the portal's surface. Frieda, who is nearby, turns towards it, expecting someone who had to turn back because they got sick or hurt - but instead, it's a monster, a creature that's half fish, half bird. As she stumbles back, it emits a screeching noise and sends a blast of wind her way - wind that's sharp enough to cut her skin and clothing.]

Ah--

[She needs to do something!! But her darting eyes can't spot anything she could use as a weapon, and the birdfish seems to be summoning several large icicles to send at her like missiles. (Using her titan powers to defend herself, of course, doesn't occur to her.)]

5) Bigger on the Inside (Part III)

[With helpful people having taken care of the monster (and any others that may have snuck or broken through the ranks of fighters), Frieda is able to tirelessly brew and bottle several kettles worth of healing potion. Depending on what the people returning from the mission need, she's happy to help them!]

[Julie-Su was getting way too ahead of herself. She decided to get the tattoo herself, choosing the shape of a Chaos Emerald on her metallic dread/ear/whatever and learned that, besides the boost, she had been given extra magic. One of those was electricity magic…

…and she was busy showing off by hovering in the air, electricity sparking off of her.

Or at the very least, it LOOKED like that, but she was balanced on a log just enough to make it look like that.]

[Fighting off monsters was rough! Thus, she decided to flop into the nearest tent to rest and get herself recharged.]

( Tattoos offering more powers? Nonsense. Steak has no need of such things. His abilities as a Food Soul haven't been dampened by coming to Ellipsa, and both Chappybara and Uke Mochi (Enhanced) have been brought with him. He doesn't even see the need for the magic Ellipsa offers, never mind these additional upgrades.

But he does see a spot to fight, and Steak will never pass up an opportunity to get into a fight. Even a sanctioned, harmless one. Sometimes especially those. It's good to let loose and have no real stakes but his pride.

(Which is important, yes, but it isn't people's lives or homes).

He stands at the edge of one of the fighting areas, red eyes sharp as they rake over the crowd of potential opponents. All unfamiliar faces, strangers in a strange land, and Steak's chest twinges with a pang of missing Tierra. Missing Gingerbread and the easy way she would slam a shield in front of her, blocking his swords with a cocky grin. Missing Fish & Chips and Pretzel, as rare as their encounters were amongst the Holy See's myriad duties and his own travels.

Missing Red Wine, a concept which makes Steak grit his teeth to admit, but is impossible to deny in this moment. Who else could drive him to pull out all the stops in a fight? Who else knows the exact way to trip him up, who could pick out a weakness of his at 100 paces and exploit it?

Fighting Red Wine always makes him better and while fighting new and novel fighters will offer lessons of their own, it just... isn't the same.

But he can't do anything about that. So, why waste time moping about it? Instead, Steak puffs out his chest, places his hand at the hilt of his sword, and booms; )

[Zvei hasn't been here for very long, but he does recognize a good deal when he sees it. Power in exchange for a tattoo? Sure, why not! So he has no qualms about getting a permanent tattoo of a spider lily on the inside of his left wrist. He watches as it flits around, dancing over and around his wrist and hand like it has a life of its own.]

How fascinating...

[Ah, but there are more pressing matters to attend to, such as learning to put these new powers to use! Admittedly he's not really sure how to practice with them, so if you're on the training grounds as well, you'll receive one (1) cheerful man in an oversized labcoat approaching with a bright wave.]

[Early on during the battle, Zvei can be found helping man the tents, particularly the healing and touch energy ones. He has no problems with the latter and he's quite skilled at the former, so he flits to and fro checking in on patients and offering what comfort he can in such dire times. Assuming you're in either of those tents, he greets you with a cheerful smile and a jaunty little wave.]

Good afternoon! I hope you're recovering well enough. What was it like in there?

[He's absolutely curious... and it's entirely because Zvei ends up eventually entering a portal himself. If you're unfortunate enough to be in his boat (or on one nearby), you'll likely be attacked by Glaciduets - hope you're prepared for a fight! Zvei holds out his hands and creates a magical shield that blocks the ice and rocks, though it looks like there's more than one of these guys hanging out here.]

Oh dear, I suppose I should have expected something like this.

Kate's new tattoo — a bundle of lavender tied together with barbed wire — is only partially visible with the way she ties her t-shirt up, flashes of black lines which trail up the side of her waist, on display as she reaches for the blindfold one of the booth owners tries to wrap around her eyes, shooing them out of her space with a glare before tightening the fabric around her head and taking a deep breath.

One day she'll do all of that, and more. That much she promises herself.

( Thankfully, people aren't asking questions of the people who volunteer for the fighting portion of this thing. No one seems to think twice about a teenager sneaking into the portal, or finding a rowboat of her own to commandeer.

She's not stupid. This is dangerous. Of course it is. Her heart races in her chest and her fingers tingle with magic yet to be unleashed, but she straightens her back and stands tall. She won't let herself look worried about this, fixating on a point in the distance and shaking her head clear of cobwebs. There's no better way to practice something than just jumping into it and giving it a go, right?

But first, she needs, ugh, a party. Her attention slips back to the other people milling about the boats, and her lips press together in a thin line.

Fan-fucking-tastic. Why can't she just go on her own? )

( The fights are a drain — she expects that, knows that — and her muscles ache after a round, making the trip back out of the portal a blessed one. She grits her teeth through the pain of walking back to the food tent and ignores the twinge of burnt skin on her arm for the moment.

It's fine. It's just a burn. She'll put some water on it later. The ache of her muscles will pass, but she should at least get something to eat. )

[Julie had been playing around for ages trying to figure out what other powers that new tattoo of hers has given her. Honestly out of her Spring abilities she's typically only played around with wind manipulation and creation. Not in the service of winning any of her weirdly made games though, oh not at all.

Now though she's discovered one of them and she practically squeels in delight the moment she flings open the chalk-drawn door she's made on the side of one booth.]

OH! IT OPENED! OH GOLLY!

[Whatever soul wanted to use that particular booth is now the target of a pair of glittering eyes in the face of a tiny little lady. Three inches over three foot to be exact! Her attitude though seems to be about twice her size.]

Did you see that?! It just opened up like POW!

[A jazz hands effect to go with that of course.]

BIGGER ON THE INSIDE;

[The moment you enter this particular touch energy tent you'll be accosted by one tiny little rainbow monster of a lady. Maybe accosted is a bad word though, she's just very enthusiastic! Honest!

She gives an energetic wave as people enter and an equally boisterous greeting.]

Heeeello, hello, hellooooo! Welcome to the touch tent where we have all your energy restoration needs!

[And now she throws her arms open wide.]

[While he was trained in his autumnal powers, Erenville really wouldn't call himself a combatant. He was much better off on the side lines offering aid in other ways. For now, he worked at the tents. Both to feed and provide touch to those who needed it after going into the portals to fight whatever was inside.

He approached one such otherworlder, handing them a bottle of water and a plate of fresh foods.]

Here, this will help you regain your strength.

Bigger on the Inside - Escaped Monster

[It seemed one of the monsters in the portal escaped the notice of the otherworlders inside, because as soon as the skeleton with fiery armor stepped onto the field, it seemed all hell broke look. With the fiery projectiles, it was easy enough to set trees or tents on fire. Of course, the area wasn't filled with only non-combatants but that didn't make it any easier given these things appeared to be much hardier than the usual monsters.

Erenville quickly rose up an earthy barrier around the tents full of healers and those recovering, urging them to stay behind the wall. It wasn't just fire it seemed to wield as Erenville's ears picked up the sound of an object sailing toward the earthen wall.

He caught the boulder with his powers, arms up in the air and boots digging into the ground, visibly straining to keep it from crushing him and the wall behind him. He managed to turn and change the trajectory of the boulder to sail harmlessly off to an empty area. But now, his back was wide open to the skeletal monster.]

I. Inked

[ Although Nenonen isn't really a fan of any magical effects that change their body, when it comes to marks? Scratches? Scars? Tattoos? They don't have any personal hang-ups. Markings like that come part and parcel with having been raised in a research facility. Though the scientists there never went so far as putting bar codes on the Test Subjects, medical alert bracelets and scars leftover from treatments or surgeries were commonplace. As far as Nen's concerned, the benefits of the ink outweighs everything else.

They may not understand how magic works, but they sure have a good grasp on how effective it can be--so with careful supervision and some rigorous health and safety precautions on account of their hazardous blood, Nen gets a nice little Starfall Cactus bloom tattooed onto the inside of their wrist. The process is mostly painless on account of their lower ability to feel it, but they can't help poking it every so often.

Even at the testing booths, they find themself preoccupied with the new mark on their body. They're not sure how they're supposed to test "Danger Sense" when the whole thing is supposed to be a safe way of learning their new skills, so Nen comes up with their own plan: ]

[ APPROACH RANDOM STRANGERS FOR VIOLENCE. ]

II. Shadow Prep

[ If there's anyone who looks out of place on this mission, it's Nenonen. They're under six feet. Thin. Waif-y. They have no discernible weapons on them and wind up panting a little after just the walk there. The teleport makes them queasy. And yet here they are, crouched at the edge of their makeshift 'base camp' as they rummage through an ordinary old side bag. Then they pull out a gun! Some noise-cancelling headphones! And a small locked box. Which they unload, withdraw ammo from, and load up into the pistol after checking the safety is on.

Nothing about the way they do this suggests any amount of combat skill.

This is Fine. ]

III. In the Shadows

[ TOTALLY FINE. So fine that Nen, much like everyone else here, is locked and loaded and ready to enter the house...so long as they've got at least one other person with them. They aren't so foolhardy as to try and enter the murder-house alone. They know better than that!

Nenonen turns to their comrade-in-arms and gives a small huff. ]

I am ready to chop hands.

[Xinyan is ready to test her new abilities, but she either needs someone to attack her with water or to be injured. Either way, it sounds like the training grounds are her best bet.]

[Xinyan is already in a boat as soon as she can get to one. She's ready to protect her new home.]

Moths follow fire, right? Think I can distract 'em with my fire power and you take 'em out?

[ Tattooing actually is something that's pretty uncommon back where she's from. It's against the whole 'culture' of defaming the body, but it's not like that concept's ever stopped Maomao in the past, given her bandage wrapped right arm, hidden behind layers of clothes so people can't normally see it.

But she doesn't want some weird permanent magical tattoo to be visibly seen when she goes back home, so she has to choose a placement carefully.

So people might see her pacing around, hand rested under her chin as she speaks aloud, deep in thought. ]

[ Nobody would just yank her hair all of a sudden, right??? ]

[ The abilities that she had obtained were... interesting, to say the least. The first was something that she didn't expect in the slightest bit: retrocognition. It wasn't as if she really needed anything like that in her day to day life, as she was but a simple apothecary.

(Or so she'd tell herself and everybody else, anyway.)

But the second? Oh, she could use that. To be able to taste poisons and other medicinal things in more detail??? It's a dream come true!

So regarding the 'testing' phase of all of this, people might notice Maomao with a bunch of potion bottles and drinking them - some people who are familiar with potion brewing might notice that some of these are Botched Potions.

But if you're not seeing her do her Rather Unfortunate Hobby, you might see her come up to people who might have items with them, speaking in a low, humbled voice: ]

[ So, your local non-combatant is not only specifically manning a tent, she has a whole booth set up: there's a table, some sleeping bags and a whole mass collection of supplies; both medicinal and potion-related.

If someone comes by, she'll give her most polite bow. ]

Of course this means that there absolutely is a girl who seems to be distracted and giggling like a madwoman as she dances and collects the poison with glee while everyone else is fighting.

But of course this may come with some potential Getting Attacked Consequences, or perhaps You??? ]

[ At some point she is kicked out of the mansion for her shenanigans and the cost of that winds up being her lying on the floor... with status effects... it's probably fine?

Although after having her Status Effect Problems get fixed, she does wind up touching the mansion--

Well, that's rather sad, isn't it. But there's nothing to be done about it now, so she just looks at the mansion and mouths the words I'm sorry and bows. ]
