Quest Plotting!

• These quests are valid from start of August until end of September.
Characters don't need to be a member of the guild to do quests and anyone can do any segment's quest! The quests are just marked this way to show where the quests are taking place.
City Location Details | Segment Location details
• Remember to keep distances (times are calculated as walking times) in mind when planning what quests to do when. You have two full months, so there's no rush!
• For some of the monsters, additional details can be found from the Beastiary.
• Rewards are for one completion of the Quest, but characters can do it multiple times to earn more money from them, as the problems do repeat.

• Please see the guild page for permanent quests.

🚨 Emergency Quest 🚨

Going Gorgon

A massive monster has been spotted in the Jungle of Judgement (Summer Segment). It has been feeding on the native fauna and even people! It looks like a giant snake lady with wings. Some have identified it's name to be "Gorgon". We can't have this monster feeding on everything that comes even close to the area of the Jungle its at, so we need people to take care of it! We will pay 2000 Moon Coins for your efforts of somehow solving this problem - may it be destroying the monster or just getting it leave!

OOC: This is a player made quest that won't last for two months. More information on it in this post. To suggest a quest, please leave a comment on the Player Suggestions page.

Log for the Gorgon Quest is here!

Quest NameDescriptionOOC NotesRewards
Blind CookingLocal TV channel is looking for participants for a new type of reality cooking show. In the show one person is blindfolded and the other is giving them instructions. This is very much a trust building exercise for the participants, as well as entertaining for the viewers. Of course, any and all injuries will be healed by a team of specialists on set.Upon entering the set the producers will do a spell that will determine how well the two people know each other. The closer they are the less likely they'll be allowed to work together. The goal is to find people who barely know each other to take a leap of faith in cooking. Of course the spell can be fooled by keeping your thoughts neutral about the other person while it's being cast.500 Moon Coins, a free self made meal
Emotional ArtAmberfall artists have set up giant blank canvases all over the districts (even in Frostreign) with plenty of different painting tools (brushes, spray cans etc). The task is to paint with your positive emotions and make pictures that radiate with positive energy. The tools and canvases are all magical so trying to enforce negative emotions into the paintings will lead to the paint disappearing once it's been on the canvas for a while. These works of art are meant to uplift the spirits of the citizens and just let people have fun with painting.Characters may learn an instant spell for cleaning their clothes from paint (and only paint) while they're participating in this quest or can be provided with overalls. Occasionally the paintings will be changed to a new blank canvas to give people more room to paint, but the "finished" canvases can be found from various places in the city.100 Moon Coins, a watercolor set, watercolor paper
On a Magic Carpet RideThe Research Center is always looking for fun new ways to travel. Now they are looking for people to test out the newest ones. It's a magic carpet meant to be ridden by two people. One of them powers up the carpet by singing (anything goes, even songs thought up on a whim) and the other steers the carpet. The test drivers are asked to complete a course where they need to pick certain items throughout the city and then return back to the Research Center. You are free to come up with simple items (fruit, special tokens, stamps - anything that won't be too heavy to carry) for the course. If the character in charge of singing stops, the carpet will gently float down to the ground (or whatever is beneath it) until singing continues again.700 Moon Coins
Pipe ExpressMysterious turquoise pipes have appeared all around the city. Some natives have entered them out of curiosity and ended up in a completely different place. Turns out they're warp pipes, a new way of fast travel! However, some of the warp pipes have an extra challenge that will take them to either a grassy terrain where you get chased by small dinosaurs that breathe fire or a pool with fish called Toe Nibblers. Some have even found just a room with a bunch of gold coins! Please help us label all of the pipes and where they might lead.Fire Breathing Dinosaurs are the size of a house cat and can look like various different dinosaur species. Toe Nibblers are various fresh water fish that nibble on people's toes and aren't generally very dangerous. There's 1/10 pipe chance to end up in either of the enemy pipes and there's 1/50 chance to drop into a room full of gold coins.300 Moon Coins
Undercovered
CW: Gang Activity
After the opening of the Underground Mall, there has been an increase in criminal activity and shady people, especially in the center district. The police are very understaffed, so we're asking otherworlders to go undercover and infiltrate these crime groups (but only those on the surface). Any information provided is important and will help towards making the city a safe place to be in.You're free to come up with different motivations, reasons and plans the minor crime groups may have and use the local Law Enforcement to bring them down with the help of your character. Some groups will hand out simple flower pins (imagine small, like hair accessories) to characters out of trust towards them.2000 Moon Coins, possible flower pin

Winter Segment

Lights, Snow, Quests [ Click to Expand ]
Quest NameDescriptionOOC NotesRewards
Invisible MazeThroughout the Winter Segment, invisible walls have appeared. These walls form a maze and occasionally one finds themselves stuck in an invisible dead-end. They're very hazardous and make traveling in the Segment difficult. We ask that you find whatever is causing this maze to exist.Passing through the maze will lead to finding an invisible Mime Monster (a bipedal, masked ermine creature). Once the characters reach the Mime Monster it will turn visible and attack. All its attacks are invisible but you can predict what they are by participating in a game of pantomime. The Mime Monster doesn't need to be killed if you show it a pantomime it can't solve.400 Moon Coins
Just Around the RiverbendThe rivers and lakes of the Winter Segment are flooding due to giant monstrous Snow Beavers making dams all over the place. These beavers are the size of human teenagers and their coat looks like powder snow. You don't have to kill the beavers, just get rid of their damn dams!Snow Beavers usually travel in groups of four and make dams on any watery surfaces. The dams are strengthened with ice, but shouldn't be too hard to destroy; it's just that there's a lot of them and the Snow Beavers will try to bite anyone who attacks the dams.600 Moon Coins
Snowed OutThe Summer Districts want to make ice and snow sculptures in the city to cool the areas a little bit. To accomplish this, special snow and ice need to be delivered from the Winter Segment. Any snow and ice that glitters like the northern lights under sunlight will be perfect for the task as it won't melt. Bring as much of it back as possible.Sleds and other means of transport are provided for the task. Snowmobiles can be rented to pull sleds easily through the snow.200 Moon Coins
Yet We Must FightA group of Giant Yetis have emerged from the forests of the Winter Segment, looking to destroy anything in their paths. They have weapons made out of wood that they use to hit opponents with. They've been making steady progress towards the City Barrier, attracted by the masses of people inside it. We believe the barrier will hold, but the natives would likely get spooked if they saw them banging on the barrier so chasing them away is important. The Giant Yeti max height is 6 metres / 20 feet. They don't have any other abilities other than their size and their wooden weapons. Killing them is optional, they just need to be chased out. Usually by fire.900 Moon Coins

Quest NameDescriptionOOC NotesRewards
Cats Need Catnip BadlyLocal animal shelters have run out of cat- (and other creature-) nip due to not being able to visit the Creature-Nip Meadow regularly for the past two months (due to a certain quest). Now they want to fill their storage with as much of the herbs as possible.Eating or otherwise ingesting the various herbs in the Meadow may turn people into the creatures they're meant for (cat nip -> cat). At the least they will make the person act like said animal for a few hours.200 Moon Coins
Farming LifeThe Research Center has provided barrier stones. These stones can be used to protect farming plots where you can grow various vegetables and herbs. The barriers don't protect them from normal animals, but they do protect them from various natural disasters and monsters. Place these barrier stones around the various abandoned farming plots and maybe get into farming yourself! The barrier stones only cover plots of 5 x 5 kilometres / 3 x 3 miles. There can be multiple next to each other. Various vegetable and herb seeds are also provided by the quest givers.200 Moon Coins, fresh vegetables/herbs later
Movie InspirationsA movie producer needs references for a fight scene and wants people to defeat local Spring monsters in the flashiest way possible and get it on camera. Camera provided, of course, with enough film for four different takes.Any Spring Segment monsters in particular will do the trick (even slimes). Cameraman safety is not guaranteed during the quest and they may have to tend to themselves.100 Moon Coins per clip
Panda Picking SeasonIt's the time of the year when Giant Pandas tend to feast on the Bamboo Labyrinth in large parties. This is a necessary cycle to keep the labyrinth in good shape. However, the panda babies tend to run off. Please protect them and bring them back to their parents. The grateful mama pandas will give characters golden bamboo shoots they find from the ground as a reward.Golden Bamboo Shoots are a special type of bamboo that will upgrade the Spring Power Holder powers when added to regular food. If a non-spring holder eats it they will just feel a lot lighter for a few days. It also tastes delicious.
Please refrain from taking the baby pandas away from their parents. If you must adopt a panda, adopt the whole family at least!

All These Mummies
CW: Mummies, Skeletons, Mind Control
Areas near the Deserter's Desert have recently seen an increased amount of Mummies. They have certainly appeared from out of nowhere (or from sand, we suppose). They're a menace... but not in a fatal way. Instead they're trying to wrap bandages around people to turn them into them. The bandages do have a 1/50 chance to actually make someone completely act like a mummy (walking in a trance, wrapping bandages around people) that can be canceled by taking the bandages off. They should be dealt with as soon as possible. The mummies are otherwise mostly harmless, but the Research Center would appreciate if someone captured a few of them so they could study them! Actual mummies have skeletons underneath all the bandages but nothing else. If they're stripped off their bandages they will comically cover their genital area and run away.300 Moon Coins
It's Raining ... Fire
CW: Burns
The Summer Segment is a place where it rarely rains outside the Rain Jungle, and when it does rain it can be something other than your regular water. Like fire. Recently observational team has noticed fire raining down from the skies. The source seems to be Wyverns circling in the skies (their scales, when falling, turn into fire). Put out the fires before they spread too far and dodge the unpleasant rain. The Wyverns can be fought, but they're danger level 10 and even killing one is a very, very hard task, especially since they're cloaked in Dark Energy most of the time.400 Moon Coins
Pirates of the Great LakeMysterious ships have made an appearance on the Great Ocean Lake: ghost ships and pirate octopi ships. They're disturbing all life on the lake, throwing explosive and other things into it. The Research Center has provided ships that can be taken to the waters and some pirate outfits to fit the theme (optional). Destroy the enemy ships and restore peace to the lake!Ghost Ships are ships that don't seem to have any members onboard (or they can only be seen by the Winter holders). Pirate Octopi are octopi with eyepatches (and some even have mechanical tentacles in place of normal ones). The ships rarely fight each other but they don't consider each other allies either.700 Moon Coins
High Risk Quest❗
La Va Land
CW: Burns
New creatures are emerging from the Lava-Ridden Land. Monsters made completely out of lava and rocks and are slowly making their way towards the segment and burning their way through everything. They're especially headed for the airship station, though we are unsure if they'll be able to cross the Forever Fall, but we don't want to risk them actually passing through it. Defeat them, however it takes or chase them back beyond the barrier.Lava Monsters are extremely dangerous and will burn anything they touch. They're closely shaped like slime and other blobs, making hard to tear apart as they will just reform themselves. Their weak point is the lava core, lodged deep inside their bodies. Breaking the core means the lava creature will dissolve.8000 Moon Coins

Autumn Segment

Maple scented Quests [ Click to Expand ]
Quest NameDescriptionOOC NotesRewards
Leaf Me AloneMajority of the autumn leaves have turned magical and have started to cause people to fall into a state of sleep whenever they hit someone. Luckily, most people have fallen asleep on the safe zones, but there are those who did not. Be careful not to get hit by the leaves and try to get rid of them instead, all while saving the people sleeping in wrong places. As long as a leaf remains on someone they will either sleep or feel very drowsy and the more leaves they have on them the more potent the effect is.The effect is less effective through clothes, but will still make one feel sleepy/yawn a lot. With enough layers of clothes the characters will be able to collect the leaves for extra potent sleeping potions. However it's not recommended to eat the leaves as they are, as it might lead to a comatose state instead.300 Moon Coins
Migrating FoesOver the course of several weeks, some (Spring) slime and (Winter) Gem Biters have made their way to the Autumn Segment and are now eating special mushrooms near the Mushroom Sanctuary (but not inside it). These mushrooms grow them in size and now we're dealing with human-sized foes. Slime are still relatively harmless, though now they can cover someone in their slime drool, but Gem Biter bites may actually be dangerous. Fight these creatures and either destroy them or bring them back to their original habitats (the effects of the mushroom will fade with time).Eating a mushroom will make someone grow triple their current size (clothes will transform with them). The effect will fade in a day. Used in potions this mushroom will help with plant growth.400 Moon Coins
Silent StreamsIn the woods, near the Silent Mountains, people will find they lose their voices. In fact, all the sounds disappear. However, it's also the place where you can find one of the purest of water sources, needed for a special potion. The quest is simple: obtain the spring water and bring it back, but be careful of the dangers you cannot hear. While the area around the spring is relatively safe, sometimes Spirit Animals wander around, attracted by the emotions of those in the area. They will only attack if there are too many different emotions in the area at the same time. There are also actual bears and wolves wandering the woods, but they rarely come too close to the Silent Zone.100 Moon Coins per water container
High Risk Quest
Rest in Pieces
CW: murder, drowning
Lately people have died or gone missing near the Abandoned Graveyard. A new type of Kelpie specie has emerged from the Flooded Woods: the Ghoul Kelpie (or Ghoulpie). It can't enter the protected area, but it will haunt people right outside of to either immediately feast on them or take them with them back to the woods to drown them. They're extremely aggressive and attack anyone on sight. They need to dealt with as soon as possible to bring peace back to the area.Ghoul Kelpies have a sticky fur that anything sticks to. Their teeth are sharp and venomous and their mane turns into vines that poison or stun their opponents. Their weakness is that the more dry they get, the more vulnerable they are to attacks so they occasionally need to retreat back to water.8000 Moon Coins

Sex on AirA new airship is looking for workers for their opening months. The airship cruise that circles around the districts and segments is meant for pleasure and pleasure only. Employees will dress up in sexy lingerie and serve customers drinks, food and entertainment. It's much like a sexy host club on air. There is also a chance of trying their new spell: actually having sex while floating in the air. Just make sure not to fall behind the airship or you may be in trouble.Of course anyone is allowed to just be a customer of the airship - or why not both, with occasionally doing work and occasionally being served. The Airship leaves evening second evening from the Nightwake Central station and returns after two days. Think of it as a luxurious cruise.900 Moon Coins per cruise
Shibari LessonsDue to the last month's Freezing Heart incident, local sex shops have opened up workshops around the Underground Mall. They are teaching characters magical shibari. Every knot tied around someone will represent an emotional or physical block they have. Once all knots are in place a spell is cast on them that will relieve them of their burdens for some time (depends on the person, how fast they will grow these burdens back in their minds/bodies). May also cause arousal to doing this with a partner you know and trust might be a good idea. The spell doesn't completely erase the burdens, it's merely meant to bring temporary relief and pleasure. The spell is a customized for every person, but it has to include the words "release you from your burdens", but otherwise it can be worded however the one doing the spell wants (for ex. "With my love and care towards you, I release you from your burdens"). The spell has to be one full sentence, but it can't just be "I release you from your burdens".Shibari Spell, Shibari Rope

[Hijikata nods - the new sign looks good! - and resumes walking, scaring a few more dinosaurs off by drawing his sword. He can't quite move on from the girl topic yet, though. His luck with women has been pretty mixed, so he's not sure if he's missing something here, but--]

Why're you assuming right away that it won't work out with the same girl in the long run?
localdeliveryboy: (idle/doubting)

[ At the question, Noah looks at Hijikata like he's crazy or just did something stupid. ]

Because we're from different worlds??? And I don't want to get attached to anyone I will obviously be seperated from???? Just sounds like a bitch of a memory to live with. Hopefully when we go back, they take my memories away of this place away. All of them.

[ He's not sure how loaded or offensive a statement that really is, or if he even realizes it is, but it seems to be his honest feelings on the matter. ]

mayoninofukucho: (Well-Rested for Once)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-08-28 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hijikata doesn't take offence, he's just mildly surprised at Noah's vehemence.]

I met a woman two worlds ago, and I still go back to see her.

[As you do!! Granted, she stayed on the world that had called them in, and those who opted to go home were given a means to return, and Hijikata won't miss out on any time back home no matter how long he visits. His year has 15+ months now, pretty much. It sure isn't a sustainable (or attainable) lifestyle model for everyone!]

Here's hoping they'll give us a choice when we're done here - I'd like to keep my memories, but it'd suck if you were saddled with yours if you don't want them.

[He'd actually be pissed if his memories of Ellipsa were simply deleted! Or, well... he wouldn't be, because he wouldn't be aware of having lost them, but, you know! Regardless, he seems ready to fully focus on the signs now.]

Would this be a good place for the next one? Or should we set both of them up a bit further ahead, at the mid-point of both pipes?

[They're both dinosaur-infested, so maybe they can just use one sign with two arrows pointing left and right!]
localdeliveryboy: (thinking)

[personal profile] localdeliveryboy 2023-08-31 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Well...even so, answer is a no.

[ And he leaves it at that. He has another reason, one he's clearly not intending to share given how closed his answer is.

He takes a step back to look at the situation with the pipes, picturing the placement of the signs and wondering about their effectiveness He also looks back at the path they came from and where it goes. ]

Uhhhmmmm, not sure if using two would be the wisest thing.

....

Got it! Since both these ones here end with them beasties, right? Best thing to do is to set up a sign - [ He turns pointing at the junction right before turning into the one they are in. ] - back there so that no one comes wondering down here. Only problem is...well, I'd be better to set it up like a barrier of sorts, but I haven't got any rope or the like at the moment. I'd have to figure out a way to make it seen easily. Might end up making a lot of noise and attract some of them creatures out.

[ He chews on his lip as he ponders the dilemma. He'd rather not have to deal with the dinos a second time, but also not go back and get rope. ]
mayoninofukucho: (Mission Complete)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-09-01 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got police tape.

[Why the hell is he carrying that around in his civilian bag? But whatever the reason, he procures a roll of black-and-yellow tape with 'Police Line - Do Not Cross' written all over it.]

You set up the sign, and I tape the pipe entrance, okay?
localdeliveryboy: (shock)

[personal profile] localdeliveryboy 2023-09-02 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yeah that'll do it. Che-

[ Before he could finish there's a chirp or screech from the end of the pipe and a single dinosaur started to wander out of the tunnel.

Noah raised his pipe slowly watching the creature who slowly sniffed around, wandered around a bit, hissed at him and Hijikata, then went back into its home. ]

....Maybe....I put the sign next to the police tape instead of...down there.

[ He'll do it regardless of what he says because there's no way he's going back there without a gun. ]
mayoninofukucho: (Are you serious?)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-09-03 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
That'll do. The tape is pretty visible as a warning, so people should pay attention to what the sign says as well.

[As he starts sticking tape diagonally across the tunnel entrance, a couple more dinosaurs show up, and he has to pause his work to telekinetically pick them up and toss them back into the pipe.]

We better find the gold room for putting up with this shit!
localdeliveryboy: (idle/doubting)

[personal profile] localdeliveryboy 2023-09-03 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

[ Noah is quick to put up the sign before tapping Hijikata on the shoulder to signal him retreating, not unlike a soldier or swat officer. He doesn't stop until they make it to the safety of the inner pipes. ]

Right, I think that's about it for this route, unless you want to charge through the den of those lizard things.

[ Reaching inside his pack he takes out a notebook as he takes a knee. Opening the notebook and placing it on the groun, there are notes all over it about the city - where to eat, what's safe, prices and places of particular note, some names and things to remember about them, and a checklist. On the page Noah stops at, there's a detailed map, two in fact, one on each page that look linked together by symbols at the end of one then starting on the other page. It's also noted that they're in several different colors, speaking of, he does also take out a multi color pen which he uses to finish the map of where they came from. ]

Okay, so. That route is....done...next up....we would want to back track....

[ He raised his hand up, pausing as he estimated where they were before pointing behind him. ]

-that way. Make a left, a right, then....down three lanes and keep going. That's unchartered territory. Best place to find treasure, I reckon.
mayoninofukucho: (Really?)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-09-04 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Damn, Noah is thorough. Hijikata generally leaves the thorough documentation at work and, being from a rapidly modernised world, simply looks things up online ad hoc if he needs any kind of information in his free time. In this pipe labyrinth, though, a good overview certainly comes in handy.

He has no objections to Noah's suggestion, and after tracking their way back to the unexplored area, the first new pipe they enter... actually simply leads to a different part of the city. A very different part. While they originally embarked on the quest in the city centre, they now find themselves in a cool, almost wintery (yet not snowy) place with a small-town feeling. It seems like they've found a legitimate warp pipe!

Hijikata slowly circles around himself, trying to identify the location, until his eyes fix on a tower in the distance.]

...

Isn't that the Tower of Potions? We're in Stormreach?
localdeliveryboy: (idle/smile)

[personal profile] localdeliveryboy 2023-09-04 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks like it.

[ The notebook comes out again along with a new item, a compass.

He maps where they ended up, noting the direction of north from where they are, unfazed by the oddness of the warp. He seems completely used to it. ]

Right, so that's north and we are...

[ He peers over the edge and makes a surprised sound. ]

Oof! That's about....fifteen feet from the ground I reckon. [ And more notes added. ] So we'd need a ladder or rafters. Summin' like that. This thing is probably stickin' out the side of a building. [ Now he lies down and sticks his head out to look under the pipe. ] Yup! Looks like some kind of residential building.

[ Pulling himself back to safety, he continues to jot down the notes he made. ]

Right, its not gold but something good. Sort of. Needs a bit of work, but looks like something that could be used.
mayoninofukucho: (Routine)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-09-05 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Let's head back and mark it on the other side. I say we can leave the logistics on this end to whoever actually wants to use this means of transport regularly.

[His motivation to do more than the bare-bones truly is limited... but on the upside he has completely forgotten his personal woes over all the exploration and labeling! Soon, back outside the other end of the pipe, a new sign pointing out the Stormreach destination (probably with a note about the work left to be done to make it useful) is in place.]

We've made pretty good headway. At this rate we may have to change areas to find more unlabeled pipes.

[There is a bit of a gold rush going on in the city over this, after all!]
localdeliveryboy: (thinking)

[personal profile] localdeliveryboy 2023-09-06 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but I'd like to double check. Some of the louts in here are only going after the treasure. I've seen a few tunnels that had people pass by but no sign.

[ He gives his bag another check and counts the materials he has left. ]

I have enough to mark five more routes. Afterwards I'd need to head back and resupply.

[ Then he cycles through his map and - ]

That's gonna be a long walk.
mayoninofukucho: (Default)

RNG won't give me the gold room...

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-09-06 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love to have you in my organisation back home.

[Seriously, this diligence?! Noah might make a really good Inspector (aka spy) for the Shinsengumi! Hijikata can see him sticking to an observation target with incredibly endurance, and if a suspicious enemy approached him, he'd be able to pull off the "innocent random young man" role without a flaw!

Alas, they're here to mark pipes.]

Alright, five more, and then we'll call it a day.

[Even Noah's work day should be at its end by then, give or take!

Sadly the first "overlooked" pipe they inspect turns out to lead to another dinosaur cave. Once more Hijikata has to use his summer magic to turn their fire green and cool.]

Just how many of these are there? I hope they won't spread and breed elsewhere in the city!
localdeliveryboy: (confused)

Me neither

[personal profile] localdeliveryboy 2023-09-11 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ If only he knew how much of that "innocent bystander" side of him was actually hiding.

Noah sighed when he saw the dinosaurs before getting clear of the magic. ]

There's not much of them, so I'll leave it up to you then.

[ He marks the tunnel before going to tap Hijikata that it's clear to move. Once in the clearing Noah immediatelt starts mapping down the route before pausing.

He glanced around to where they came when they discovered the clear route, then where they were. ]

D'you notice? When we was there with the exit, there was a breeze. But the moment, the second we were were back in here it stopped. Like, it didn't even reach in here a few feet before dying, it just stopped. Do you think that's something to consider reporting back? Probably is, innit?
mayoninofukucho: (Yeah yeah.)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-09-11 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[At this point dealing with the annoying critters has already become routine for Hijikata, so he's happy enough to split the work into beast wrangling for him and signposting for Noah. It looks like they'll be able to move on swiftly even if they encounter more of them... as long as they don't accidentally pull swarms from two neighbouring pipes, at least.

He shakes his head in response to Noah's considerations.]

I think it was to be expected. It warped us all the way across town, right? Don't ask me how it works, but whatever warp mechanism or warp magic sits in the middle probably swallows up any changes in the atmosphere between destinations.
localdeliveryboy: (thinking)

[personal profile] localdeliveryboy 2023-09-12 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah I mean that much is plain but what I'm getting at is - since the weather here is perpetually as in, kinda warm if not a little stuffy, wouldn't this be the perfect little place for homeless folk to come and settle?

[ He says while gesturing to the sheer size and seemingly endless halls. ]

Think about it. Entrances could pop up anywhere, no end to the halls in sight, and anyone who would be coming to vacate them would be heard coming a mile away - if they find them at all. There's the lizards but, just stay away from them and you'd be dandy. Sounds like the perfect place.
mayoninofukucho: (I'm just sitting here.)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-09-12 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hijikata gives him a long look that blatantly translates into "I've never once given the local homeless population a single thought". Evidently he's a cop for the thrill of chasing down criminals and the occasional power trip, not so much ensuring that people are sheltered from the elements! (Granted, the climate in the city centre is static anyway.)]

I guess so...

[It's so easy to house everyone: Just have some random warp pipes appear in your city!]

I honestly haven't seen many - if any - homeless people here, now that I think about it.

[But that's probably partly because he assumes that everyone he sees slumped in the backstreets of the red light district on his night patrols is just drunk after hitting up the bars too hard.]

[ Noah paused and thought about it. ]

You know what, you're right. But odd, innit?

[ For him at least. ]

Oh well. Looks like we'll just have to worry about criminals using it then, eh?

[ He says fixing up his tools and tucking away the notebook before walking further in, as if he didn't just drop a big point of concern regarding the feasibility of using these pipes as a hideout. Or worse. ]
mayoninofukucho: (It's always something.)

[Oh boy. Now it's suddenly Hijikata's problem alright. Shit!! If they start robbing and shanking warp pipe travellers in here, we'll need to make it a patrol hotspot - and we'll need new gear, at least padded boots or whatnot... we don't have the budget for that, do we?

While he stews in the glum realisation of just how much this development is going to affect his work, they arrive at the next unlabeled pipe. He enters it first, sword out, just in case it holds dinosaurs again... but instead, it turns out to be another warp pipe. This one, at least, lets them out just a child's height above solid ground, so Hijikata jumps down. They're in a nondescript backstreet, with the weather feeling neither hot nor cold.]

Let's get out on the main street.

[Just moments later, they find themselves in a place that's more familiar than most to Hijikata: They're in his home district.]

Sunwaning.

[They're only a 20-minute walk from his house... damn, this will come in so handy when he wants to get home after a night in the city centre! He's feeling more and more torn on these pipes.]

[ While he was dreading the prospects, Noah was very relaxed about it since, unlike now, it's not his problem. He simply went about considering where the treasure may be.

Another warp tunnel is pretty good too, at least it made it so that their day was productive and not just a burn or bite mark filled nightmare. ]

Sunwaning...

[ He whispers as be starts to note the end point. ]

Well, at least there isn't a shift in gravity when we come out of these places. So that's a plus.

Don't even say something like that!

[At least Noah probably didn't jinx it, otherwise they most likely wouldn't have gotten lucky for so long. Hijikata helps him pinpoint their exact location on the map, then back through the pipe they go to set up a new signpost.

The next pipe, however, is another bust: Once more Hijikata has to beat some dinosaur asses with his telekinesis. Once the critters have ran off, he brings out his police tape again to paste across the tunnel entrance while Noah sets up the warning sign.]

...

It really will be a pain in the ass to combat crime in here. We'll need to install a surveillance system at the very least, and ideally we'll either camouflage it or have it be mobile, like little drones.

[He's mostly talking to himself, preparing what he'll tell his boss. If they installed visible stationary cameras, they'd only get destroyed and the gangsters would shank people unseen!]

You with the police or summin'?

[ While he worried over his job, Noah was starting to headback to put up the sign - glad to see the proverbial light at the end. ]

I don't think you'd really have to worry about any murders or attacks that violent happening here. I mean, it's a closed off city, where the hell would the perpetrator run to? He could hide in the tunnels but, they aren't exactly the De- er, I mean they aren't like...never ending corridors and such.

[ He gestures to the entrance. ]

Guard and block off the entrances, put a simple team going in from each entrance, box the perp in. Simple.

It's a closed-off city, yet crime's been spreading from the underground to the surface. We can't let those shitheads get too bold.

[Noah cut himself off for a second there, but Hijikata won't prod him about it, assuming that he merely corrected a reference to something that exists on his world but not here.]

We'll see how it goes. If we come down hard enough on them right away, they'll hopefully learn.

[With the sign put up, they inspect the next pipe... and once again it's a veritable warp pipe, albeit one that leaves them peering out of a mountainside, with no way to descend. At least the cable cars that are visible from up here make it easy to identify the district!]

...

Coldreach. Well, this one is a bust. They'll have to install the tallest escalator or elevator or staircase here if they want to make use of it.

[ They're making such good progress in such a short time. Well, sort of. Actually, he'll take it. Two usable paths and the potential danger of this place was raised to a police officer of sorts. That's a win. ]

Cold....reach...okay.

[ He peers over the ledge and looks around. ]

I wouldn't say its a complete loss. Could make this a look out point. Build a platform out here, some basic necessities, you could keep an eye out on the city and have a sort of base or station of sorts, yeah?

[ He occasionally comes up with good ideas he thinks. ]
mayoninofukucho: (Here we go again.)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2023-10-08 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
That might be viable, but I'm honestly not sure if it's worth it... not for us, in any case.

[The law enforcement, he means.]

But who knows, maybe some researchers will want to build an observation deck for wildlife or weather studies or what-have-you.

[Despite Noah's good faith in him, he actually doesn't feel responsible for raising attention about the matter to anyone in particular! Instead he simply suggests:]

Make sure to put a big warning on the sign.
