[ as kaveh is leaving he hears alhaitham mumble something! and though he doesn’t know just what he said he doesn’t need to, because it’s no doubt something meant to get on his nerves. he huffs, shooting him a quick look over his shoulder before dropping unceremoniously onto the couch. he leans over yo the table to grab a sketchbook, summoning mehrak over. his briefcase hovers over his shoulder, tipping forward to peer down at the comic panels he’s setting up. ]

[ Statue secured. ]

[ Now he can head back into the living room to check on Kaveh once more, making an idle note in his head to contact Tighnari within the next day. No doubt the other man has already investigated into this phenomenom, so Alhaitham was interested in comparing his results against what he and Kaveh had apparently experienced. ]

[ Walking behind the couch Kaveh has fully claimed, he leans over the side of it to peer down with mild interest at whatever he'd taken to. Seems like he bounced back fast. ]

Bringing work home already?

[ as soon as alhaitham leaves to go be boring at the library or something kaveh is going to take that ugly eyesore and throw it off the nearest cliff side. ]

[ kaveh feels alhaitham's presence, so he stops what he's doing and turns his head to stare at him, because, really, he thought he was trying to avoid getting too close... and yet here he is!!! ]

I'm working on something with the Traveler. She told me about comics, or books with pictures, so I hardly think you'll be interested. [ but alhaitham can see that he's scribbled the idea lumine presented to him in the margin. ] She came up with an idea for one, so I thought I would start sketching it.

Books with pictures isn't a novel concept, Kaveh, but I'm not surprised you've never come across one before.

[ Curiosity satisfied for now, he steps back, moving over to the bookshelf in the room to replace the Autumn book he'd been reading earlier and taking a new one off it. ]

Having a creative outlet would be good for you.

...a book made up entirely of pictures, Alhaitham. [ mumbles something about how he knows that books with pictures exist. ] What is that supposed to mean? I'm an architect, creativity IS my outlet. [ snaps the sketchbook shut and turns onto his side, leering across the room at him. ]

[ His attention seems on the cover of the book in hand, a part of Alhaitham's thoughts busy considering whether he should also take the Winter book with him to read as well. ]

So there would be no text whatsoever? That's impressive.

And you seem to be so fond of telling stories about me when I'm not around, it seemed like you could use an outlet for that specifically. Though I ask you refrain from using my likeness in this regard without consent.

[ kaveh's gaze narrows as he just kind of... gives up on explaining the idea. alhaitham is doing this on purpose. ]

I-! [ can't argue with that, but not in this specific instance. ] Do you think I'm gossiping to the Traveler about you? Oh please. I don't spend every waking moment talking or thinking about you, Alhaitham. [ he sits up. ] Do you think I would really put you in my little book? Your ego is bigger than I thought.

Fictional stories can often be traced back to some basis in the personal experiences of the author, often hardships or trials that the author had encountered.

I was rather sure I was one such representation of annoyance in your life.

[ kaveh LAUGHS. ] I wasn't the one that came up with the idea. Traveler did. I guess she's having roommate troubles too. [ he's an idiot, your honor. ]

I don't need to draw a book to tell you you're annoying. I'll just tell you to your face.

[ ... Kaveh, the Traveler doesn't live in one plac- ]

I see. Then I look forward to one day reading about the Traveler's mysterious but frustrating roommate. Perhaps we'll have something in common.

[ Books collected, he heads for the kitchen once more to brew himself some tea. ]

[ connecting the dots and... tumbling over the side of the couch. he's glad that alhaitham's left the room, because he's sitting there turning red and feeling stupid. did she set him up! he doesn't have problems with his roommate... most, ok, some of the time. ]

Mind the coffee table. I'm taking it with me when I move out.

[ Alhaitham's voice calls annoyingly out from the kitchen as he considers his tea options, seemingly oblivious to Kaveh's freak out. Or at the very least, acting as if he is. ]

...! What?! [ he chokes out, getting to his feet in a hurry and going into the kitchen. ] What do you mean when you move out!? [ he grabs alhaitham's shoulder and yanks him around, getting up in his face, because you didn't clear this with him! ] You're not going anywhere.

[ Well hello again very close distance Kaveh. ]

[ He gives him the most bland look in return, tea bag held in one hand. ]

I'm planning to buy a house Kaveh. You should have predicted this.

I don't plan to live in free housing forever.

And what about me? [ he realizes that he could probably get his own place, or at least continue to live in this space, since it likely won't be too much money, but... that's not what he... wants... ]

[ he returns alhaitham's space to him as he takes a step back. ] Did you plan on leaving me here along with whatever furniture you don't want?

[ At that series of question, he leans himself back against the counter behind him, fixing Kaveh with his full attention as he sets the tea bag down. This is a conversation he'd mildly expected to have, but Kaveh sounded more upset about the prospect than he'd thought he would be. ]

That's your choice, Kaveh. As we both know, your debt doesn't exist here, and you're well and capable of earning enough money to buy a place of your own as well.

But if you'd like to continue living together, I don't object to it.

[ kaveh is silent for a long while. no, his debt doesn't exist here, but it's hard to imagine living on his own when he's grown so accustomed to living with alhaitham. not having a roommate would mean that he doesn't have to worry about all the ugly decor he brings home, but it would also be significantly more... lonely... ]

I, I want to continue living together.

You'll be expected to pay rent.

[ Sorry that Alhaitham is physically incapable of making this any sort of touching moment. ]

[ kaveh just groans. ]

[ This situation is very different from the one back in Sumeru, and if there's another source of income that Alhaitham can pull money from, he'll gladly take it. ]

[ booze, clothes, decor, ... ]

Not yet, no. [ he sighs. ] Fine. But that means I get a say in the house we're moving into. We're doing this together. [ do you regret not objecting yet, alhaitham? ]

I'll be paying for the house in its entirety, so I retain rights to final say. Your input, however, will be considered.

[ This is the worst kind of conceding but also Alhaitham knows better than to co-own a piece of property with someone he has a turbulent relationship with. ]

[ as much as he wants to argue there's not too much room for it. he just huffs, folding his arm and looking aside as he puffs out his cheeks. so annoying! why did he want to continue rooming with him again? he should really just get his own place. ]

[ He gives a small, returning tap to Kaveh's chest this time, turning as the water starts to boil. ]

So don't break our furniture.

[ he swats at his hand, but he’s too slow to slap it away. ] I’m fine, by the way, thanks for asking. [ he steps away. ] More concerned about your tacky table… hnph.
