Naturally he covers it completely in half the contents of his jar (he still hasn't found mayonnaise in bottles).]

Jean, you don't look happy. Maybe we should've picked a different place.

[He offers the rest of the mayonnaise to his friends.]

How've you two been?

[That sure was a fancy sushi plate. At least it was interesting to see a 1-star and a 5-star meal next to each other. If they'd just be the same meal it would have been even funny. Now he wondered what a 1-star sushi box looked like.]

No, it's fine. If get something from a store later.

[This wasn't part of his free meals, after all. Just some extra.

Her guard relaxed a bit when he mentioned that it was an ally who'd arrived. She wouldn't have to plan an offensive immediately.]

...Who is it? If he's an ally then- he's not a threat?

[Even if he wasn't a threat, it sounded like he was a problem in a different way.]

[Hijikata likewise sees no reason to be alarmed. Back where he's from he gets violent with half his comrades on the regular, be it Okita trying to murder him for the 293486236th time or Yamazaki playing badminton during the morning training and making him blow a fuse.]

How bad is it? Is he a sadist?

[Now that would be cause for concern.]

What? No. Not that I know of at least. If anything he's a damn masochist.

[That's not exactly accurate either, but still closer than a sadist.]

Eren Jaeger... our side's only titan shifter. He's the one the whole army puts their hopes on helping us out of the situation at home and someone who swears to kill all the titans like an idiot.

[And then he adds, much quieter.] And one of Mikasa's closest friends.

Titan Shifter...

[Oh. She was at least smart enough to realise what that meant. And to remember what Jean had told her about them before- that there had been Shifters who'd infiltrated and betrayed them. But he had also mentioned one that had been on their side...that must be this person, then.]

The one on your side. Right.

[...Then the rest of what he'd said sunk in. A friend of Mikasa's. Was that a bad thing, that they got along? It would be worse if they were an enemy, wouldn't it?]

[Give her a moment.]

[Hijikata likewise sees no problem here, on the contrary. If the newcomer is Mikasa's friend, then she'll be happy, right? And him being a titan shifter is great!]

Isn't that a good thing? We can probably use a titan on our side, depending on what large monsters may be out there in the Seasonal Segments. If the toucans are already man-sized how big do you think the bears and jaguars will be?

[This pizza really is mediocre, but he eats another slide without complaining.]

[Why is he the sole member of this group with some sort of emotional intelligence. Jean looks sour.]

They met when they were kids, grew up together, all that stuff. Family, more than friends. So of course I'm happy for her he's here, it's just complicated on my part.

[He's not jealous or worried Eren would make him an Mikasa grow apart or anything, just general jealous of how much time Mikasa will spend with him. Which is completely understandable, they haven't met in years when before they saw each other everyday. But he couldn't help it. He's just too used to having Mikasa to himself.]

We've never gotten along, even if we're allies. Friends, even, just the type that always argues and fights, but works together when the situation calls for it.

Oh...you're worried her time will be split, now...

[Oh, there we go! The penny finally dropped as part of her thought back to Hope's Peak, and seeing Makoto following Sayaka and Kyoto around. She didn't expect he'd look her way, but it still gave her an odd, distant feeling...

But back to the topic at hand.]

Is he a capable combatant at least? Even without shifting forms?

[Hijikata just likewise looks at Jean while eating his pizza. Well? Is Eren a capable combatant? Sorry Jean, he's never really experienced jealousy. Okita, on the other hand, would be able to understand Jean's feelings completely: He'd been living a happy life, cared for by his older sister and surrogate big brother, until Hijikata showed up one day and drew the attention of both.

Basically: He's the Eren in his story.]

[Mukuro finally getting it makes Jean blush a little bit. That's telling enough it's exactly what he had been thinking. But as he thought to himself already, it's fine and he'd learn to deal with it.]

He is. He's gone through the same hell I did to graduate. And while I hate admitting to it, he was fifth out of the top ten in our class who graduated. Beating me by one.

[Mukuro took the time to taste her sushi, thinking about the best way to reassure Jean- after all, she wasn't sure how to approach this herself. Back at Hope's Peak, she'd contented herself to ~~creepily stare at~~ watch Makoto from a distance. Jean was...actually involved with Mikasa. That made it a bit of a different situation.

Plus, well, she definitely got feeling annoyed that he'd beaten him in the combat rankings!]

...so he might be useful if there's a fight...but, um, I don't think Mikasa's going to stop spending time with you?

You could spar with him to prove you're better in a fight than he is now.

That's a good idea. With all the knight training and questing experience under your belt I bet you'll kick his ass now, Jean.

[Unless Eren being from a later point in time than Jean means that he learned a bunch of new skills as well...]

But honestly, just do what you've done back home with him. Even if you two butt heads, isn't it alright?

[He really isn't the best advisor on healthy, normal friendships, given the insane levels of roughhousing that happens in the Shinsengumi.]

[Stop catching on his embarrassing emotions.]

I doubt she will. I'll get past this phase eventually.

[The 1-star steak is still very bland, but he's still eating it. The mayo helps a little.]

He's from the future, so it's likely he's stronger too. I want to say I'm stronger of us, but I can't back that up.

[He takes a sip of his drink, averting his gaze from his siblings.]

But he... is a friend. So it will be alright. It's just a lot to adjust to.
