AU EVENT

Intent matters in magic. That's what Reiner has learned during his time in Ellipsa. Intent matters, and so he investigates the Weird Mirror Tree with a specific intent. He's trying to find a certain possibility. Trying to see if his dreams are reflected in one of the mirrors.

But sometimes, intent isn't enough. Sometimes, mistakes are made.

Sometimes, things just go wrong.

WHAT HAPPENS

A blast of magic emanates from the Weird Mirror Tree in the Sping Segment, bouncing between mirrors and reflections as it races outward across Ellipsa, including toward Nightwake.

➤

Those hit by this magic (be it while looking at a reflection or while the magic is traveling) will transform into an Alternate Universe version of themselves.

➤

They may have muddied memories of Ellipsa, but for the most part, it will be as though they've lived an entirely different life up until that point.

➤

They will have any items and clothing that their AU self would possess, but no new powers.

Eh? No, just another country. But you mean there's other worlds people get sent to? Like off TV?

We're living proof that it happens, aren't we? And it's not even the first time for me! That other world had magic, too, but I couldn't use it. You've been taking this so well, I thought it might have happened to you before, too.

[But maybe Rinku just rolls with the punches by nature!]

That's so cool! I thought this might be the only one! But if there's even more, that's amazing! Too bad you couldn't do magic, though, that's gotta suck.

I could apply myself in other ways! Since those native to that world can use magic, they tend to rely so much on it that they don't think out of the box in ways we non-magical people do.

[In fact, the school's head mage even told her that his students tend to let their talents get to their head to the point of having no inclination towards team work - a big part of why he let her enroll despite her lack of aptitude!]

Now, how can we awaken out magic? Surely, there must be a school here too. Otherwise, how would people learn to use their abilities?

There's gotta be, right? I hope it's more fun than normal school. I'm pretty bad at studying and homework and staying awake in class...

[Frieda smiles a little vacantly. Between learning the bare essentials of life at the Wall's school for the nobility's children, inheriting the crushing true history of her homeworld, and attending classes at Night Raven College, her education has been rather non-standard.]

I hope so, too. Let's see...

[Asking one of the Welcome Centre's volunteers for help, they find out that the most renowned places of learning are the Magical Manor for enchantments, the Tower of Potions for elixirs, the Grand Collosseum for physical practice of magic, and two large libraries for research.]

I'm still not sure where to begin... the magical library, I suppose, to understand the basics?

That sounds like fun! I wanna come too! I mean, I'm bad at that kinda thing, but I bet I could try anyway! Let's go, okay?

[Latching onto Frieda's arm.]

Of course! It'll be easier together!

[And if not that, then it'll at least be more fun! Overjoyed to have met such a cute and friendly companion in this new world right away, she leads the way to the nearest air bus station that the volunteer pointed out to them... only to realise that all the currency she has on her is Thaumark.]

He said that there are "apps" for both payment and a map on the phones, but I don't have a phone. I don't even know that that is. Do you?

Yeah, it's like this!

[Rinku digs her phone out of her pocket... and blinks.]

It's a little different than normal. How much do I have on here?

[She navigates to BankCrow and blinks. Looks at the amount of Moon Coins. Looks at the bus fare posted on the sign.]

Definitely enough...

[Why does she have so much??? (Couldn't be because she has a job, does quests, and has to take care of a house full of children!)]

[Frieda curiously leans in. While there's a lot of technology where she just came from (including phones; I screwed up!), this is different from anything she's seen before. At Rinku's assessment, though, she smiles. They won't be thwarted by not having the standard otherworlder equipment after all!

With Rinku's phone and Moon Coins, it's a rather straightforward journey with interesting views along the way. While Frieda isn't half as shell-shocked as she was the last time around, this city still in a marvellous new location! The magical library, once they arrive, turns out to be beyond memorable, too - for a start, it seems to be largely staffed by fairies that flit to and fro.]

Look!! They look like the fairies from Faeland!

That's so cool! Hello!

[Rinku chirps a hello and waves. The library fairies wave back, but shush them.]

Wow... And it's huge, too! What all do you wanna look up first?

Seasonal magic! I think it's in this direction!

[Sure enough, there's a huge section dedicated to the topic. Before long, they have a number of books stacked on the table in front of them.]

Hm... this says that in the olden days, children naturally manifested their seasonal powers, some earlier, some later. We're already older than the usual age range! But there's no indication of how to call the magic forth... have you found anything?

[roundandaround]

Whoa...

[She looks and hums, shifting from side to side.]

And the first ones got their powers from going into the Segments, but we already have ours? Huh... I dunno how to find anything fun in here. This is way too many words.

[urtitan]

[Frieda laughs - Rinku did warn her about her bad attention span!]

Would you rather go see if you can find any card shops after all? We can meet outside the library in, say, three hours and find places to eat and sleep!

[Don't stand her up, Rinku, you're her wallet! But then, who's to say that 3 hours from now, they won't already be AU'd into something else...]

Really? Okay! I promise! It'll be tons of fun, you watch!

[Rinku clasps her hand and sparkles.]

[What a cutie!! She really has been missing hanging out with girls.]

[Not that she really realises just how dangerous Nightwake can be - she's just thinking of traffic and the like. Waving after Rinku, she feels happy and motivated. By the time they meet again, she wants to show her her first magical feat!]
