Going Downhill

This is… interesting.

[When she had read ‘sentient slinkies’ she had not been certain of what to expect. Some kind of snake, perhaps? What she hadn’t thought to find would be what appear to be several very large toys enjoying the dips and rises of the landscape.]

I--... hm.

[She plants a hand against her hip.]

What are we supposed to do about these things..?

Giant Slinkies...?

[Rinku stares. She scratches her head and blinks.]

Should we try and break them apart? I feel kinda bad for them.

[It is a headscratcher, indeed.]

I don't, um...

[Hmm.]

Surely the best thing to be done would be to simply leave them be until they move on by themselves. [A small frown. Well, they did come out all this way...] Maybe they just need a little encouragement.

[roundandaround]

Yeah, if they're just having fun that's good... Though the guild board said they were attacking people, right?

[Some of the Giant Slinkies start bounding and rolling over toward them.]

What do you think they're doing?

It... looks like they're just having fun.

[She rubs the back of her hair, unsure, and shakes her head.]

Do you think we ought to go down there and see if something happens?

[roundandaround]

I guess so. They're only a problem if they attack, and then it's all right to fight them!

[She's already headed down there, looking at the Giant Slinkies excitedly.]

He--

[She's about to call the girl back, maybe tell her to be careful, then she shrugs and moves to catch up. It isn't as if she isn't more than a match for anything they might end up coming up against with these odd creatures, after all!]

[Rinku runs down and stumbles to a stop, watching the Giant Slinkies closer up. A few of them seem interested, and one rolls over towards them.]

Okay. we just gotta figure out what it'll do... stay back!

[Rinku raises her voice suddenly as the Giant Slinky lunges. She manages to dodge just before it slams its coils down. A flower where she'd been standing starts to wilt.]

Energy sapping, right?

[Guizhong definitely doesn't need to be told to stay back - she's well out of the way by the time the slinky slams itself down, more concerned about Rinku than herself and moving swiftly to the other woman's side.]

Of some fashion. [Her brow furrows a little bit.] We had best not let them touch us. Which season did you say you were?

[Time to come up with a plan.]

Summer! Why?

[She's already summoning a flame to her hand.]

Mine is spring! Perhaps we can come up with a better plan than simply throwing magic at the creatures?

[Granted, they do not have a lot of time to come up with one now that they have caught their attention, but Guizhong was not a reknowned war strategist for nothing.]

We are already at a disadvantage when they have the higher ground.

[roundandaround]

Combining two seasons makes us stronger!

[She throws a fireball at the Giant Slinky and draws her sword. It rears up to try and trap them.]

How about we try a fire tornado or something?

Got it!

[She was going to suggest that they drive the things off rather than actually attempt to hurt them, but it doesn't look like they're going to be given to much choice! Guizhong hadn't expected something like gigantic slinkies to be so aggressive.

With a semi-performative gesture of her hand she whips up a stiff breeze, forming it into a spiraling column.]

Light it up!

[roundandaround]

Go, go, let's go!

[Rinku snaps and winks, sending a jetstream of fire toward Guizhong's wind. Some of the slinkies seem to be turning away, thanks to instinct driving them away from anything that resembles the Spring Segment's famous tornadoes, but others are still trying to gain on the girls.]

Try it!

[godofdust]

[The stream of air catches fire immediately, pulling the flame upwards in a hot spiral. Guizhong sends the tornado straight towards the slinkies that are starting to try to close in on them.

It definitely works on most of their pursuers.]

Some of them are a little too brave for my liking!

[And she would love to know where they're keeping a brain. Or maybe they just lack the instinct needed to turn away from fire?]

[roundandaround]

[They take out a good number of the Giant Slinkies just with the combined force of the tornado! Others, noticing that things aren't looking good, start to bound away. Rinku cheers and puts out any stray grass fires.]

We did it! That's gotta be enough for the quest!

[She retracts her fire and starts taking photos to document it for the guild.]

Oh, right, Mary-chan will want a souvenir... Before that, do you think we're good?

[godofdust]

[Guizhong claps her hands together as the rest of their foes decide to flee and Rinku puts out the remaining fires.]

A marvellous plan! I do so love it when everything comes together so well.

[She plants a hand to her hip and looks around, not seeing a single other giant creature in the area.]

I would say that we certainly are. What do you think you could bring as a souvenier from something like this?

Hmm, I dunno... I don't think a kid will want a piece of a monster. Maybe I should just get some flowers and make sure Hina-chan doesn't eat them. What would you want if you were too young to quest?

Oh, it's been a long time since I was anything that could be considered young.

[Guizhong is much, much older than she looks, or acts.]

Does she like flowers?

[roundandaround]

Yeah! I think so. She talked about roses one time, and wondered if cherry blossoms were edible, and we're gonna go flower-viewing in March.

Oh, they are! Cherry blossoms, that is, if you hadn't found out already.

[She looks around with a thoughtful hum.]

There might be some edible flowers around here, shall we see?

[roundandaround]

Yeah! [Rinku lights up.] She didn't like it when she just picked some off a tree to eat, but I was gonna buy some of those cookies with the pickled ones. But bringing home flowers would be great!

Then let's start looking around! Hopefully those springs didn't crush all the good ones.
