Event #1: Welcome, Adventurers

Welcome, Adventurers
LOGS | NETWORK | OOC | MEMES | NAVIGATION
A new message on everyone's smartphones says that all the Guilds are finally open for business! Instructions on how to get to each one of them are sent with the message.
Each Season has their own Guild (Winter in Frostreign, Spring in Blossomcrown, Summer in Solarpeak and Autumn in Amberfall). Originally they were formed when the world was thriving and the natives were power holders, now they serve a purpose for aiding Otherworlders.
Although there are some aesthetic differences, all of the guilds have the same basic layout, which the newcomers are given a tour of:
The main floor is for information, containing computers that are connected between all guilds. Using them brings up holographic boards which contain information on each of the segments, with a focus on their home segment. You can find out here what the weather is like in each segment, what quests are available, an explanation on how the Flower Yards work, and even a list of powers that have been discovered and how to practice them.
The second floor is a place to go for combat practice, or just practice using your powers. There are simulators here that can be used to create a space to test your skills against virtual monster opponents or against other power holders, all with safety precautions to keep anyone from being injured.
The third and final floor is meant for relaxation and provides a temporary place to nap when necessary. Those who do quests on a regular basis will receive a key that opens their own, personal room for relaxation that can be customized as much as they want. It's void pocket space that doesn't appear unless the specific key is used or the owner invites someone in from the inside.
It's also the floor where the leaders of the guild have their own private space in that's a restricted area. They have their public office there as well.
However, the power holders are expecting everyone outside, in the backyard of the Guilds...
The main event of the opening day of the guilds is a lesson on how to become more attuned with your new elemental magic. Some characters may already feel comfortable with them, but the Power Holders wish to help anyone who might still feel like they're struggling.
Behind the guilds there is big open space. A yard meant for lessons like this. Each of the power holders is own their own stage (even Sawyer, who seems rather reluctant to be there) and announces the name of the lesson: Elemental Dancing.
They explain each in their own way that dancing while focusing on their basic element is a way to start properly feeling the element. The dance can be anything, as long as their bodies are moving and they can feel their magical energy align with the element.
To demonstrate, they dance:
Olwen dances a slow dance that looks a little like ballet, with water flowing naturally around him and increasing in quantity as he goes.
Jade has a much quicker dance method, like she's dancing at a party and is surrounded by wind that sometimes helps her even jump higher.
Dawn's dance is a passionate belly dance accompanied by rings of fire around her that turns into a pink fire so she doesn't burn herself as the flames come closer to herself.
Sawyer, as reluctant as he, goes full breakdance with each of his tricks forming pillars of earth that he can use to dance even more.
Once their demonstration is over, they encourage new power holders to give it a try themselves and remind them that they can dance however they please. They also advise that the dances can be attempted with a partner, as long as they can learn to trust one another. Sometimes magic is far stronger when done together... but it may also backfire.
Anyone interested is encouraged to join their guild. The staff explains that it's very beneficial, as they would get access to the upper floors that just today were shown to them, and that nearby stores would give guild members discounts for potions and other such adventuring necessities.
Even without joining, all of the first floors services are available for everyone. That includes the questboard that is now on display, though it only shows four quests for now.
There are some necessary preparations still going on with the questboard itself, but the staff assures that later there will be more of them, with some permanent ones added to the mix that would help with making the Segments safer for those without powers to explore as well.
Why not find a friend and go out on an adventure together? The guild does recommend doing quests together with someone, rather than alone.
Well, except Sawyer of Autumn, if he's around. He will always encourage people to go on their own and claims it's an act of bravery. Oh, and make sure to check the Beastiary before heading out, once you've picked your targets!
The Quests [ Click to Expand ]
Quests
CW/TW: possible nudity, possible death
Name: Skeletal Mischief
Rewards: 100 Moon Coins per 2 Snowskeletons vanquished
Location: Winter Segment
Description: For some time Snowskeletons have bothered natives who visit the Flower Yard. Usually the only nearby place of peace has now become a nuisance to visit. Those who attempt it usually return to the city in just their underwear (if they’re lucky). A request has come for the guilds to get rid of the Snowskeletons near the Flower Yard in whatever means necessary.
OOC notes: Snowskeletons have two types: either they're snowmen made from bone or they're skeletons made of snow. Either way they're definitely not friendly and often disguise themselves among the snow to surprise their prey. They're not really out to kill anyone, but may sometimes accidentally do it. Instead they're looking to steal clothes and wear them. Basically they're notorious bandits.
CW/TW: mind altering
Name: That Very Big Tree
Rewards: 500 Moon Coins, Loot you find
Location: Spring Segment
Description: The researchers are curious about the “One Very Big Tree”. They want to know what the tree does and are asking people to take a look and report back what they find.
OOC notes: One Very Big Tree is hollow on the inside and looks like a big tree house. The higher someone climbs it the less they feel like they’re themselves. In fact, they will turn into the exact opposite of themselves. There are also dangerous Gale Squirrels living inside that use wind magic of their own to attack!
Reaching the top, however, will reward them with feathers of a mighty monstrous bird that can be used to enhance any weapon so that they fly back to the user's hand. Only one feather per character, magic stops them from taking more than one.
CW/TW: possible death, possible mind altering
Name: Treasure Ship
Rewards: 500 Moon Coins, any treasure they find
Location: Summer Segment
Description: “The abandoned ship in the Great Ocean Lake used to be a treasure ship! So why not go fetch the treasure? I’m sure it can be used to make some neat weapons or armor. I’d love to help do that, I’m an expert in using treasure for enhancements! But I’m not strong enough to go get them myself. The fastest route there is from the Airship Station!”
OOC notes: The ship is full of Octokitties that are cats with six to eight limbs. They’re territorial and won’t appreciate anyone coming to their ship for any reason and will attack viciously. They can also spit ink that includes side effects of going into a berserker mode and not caring who is an ally and who is an enemy. But the treasure is real.
CW/TW: eaten alive, death
Name: The Blue Flash
Rewards: 700 Moon Coins for finding a lost one*
Location: Autumn Segment
Description: “Help, my friend disappeared on our trip to visit the old lady of Autumn Airship Station. We walked outside to stretch our legs after our airship journey and then there was a blue flash in the corner of my eye and he was gone! Nothing at all remained and I was too scared to go look for him so I ran back inside. I’ve heard this isn’t the first time a blue flash has abducted someone!”
OOC notes: The reason for disappearances is the Angler Will-o'-the-wisps: Most will-o'-the-wisps are harmless, but there are types that act like anglerfish. They take the form of other monsters and toss a "fishing line" out of a dark bush to make it look like a normal will-o'-the-wisp was trying to get their attention. When the prey gets too close, they will attempt to devour them to get more soul energy. They have left their normal place in the forests and invaded some bushes around the Segment.
*Reward stays the same even for just figuring out the mystery behind disappearances.
Enhancing items is a magical specialty in Ellipsa. The power of words determines how your item of choice gets enchanted. If you're trying to make an armor stronger, it would be wise to use kind and encouraging words but a weapon might need violent and determined words. Enhancement include defense boosts, attack boosts, health stealing and even adding status effects. All of these effects aren't permanent, but they should last for at least a month before fading away.
The workshops around districts will offer teaching to anyone who is interested in learning the basics of basic item enhancement. For more advanced things (like learning to make the enhancements permanent) the natives suggests taking an apprenticeship in the Magical Manor of Amberfall or Tower of Potions of Coldreach. Especially with potions, as those are more advanced than what they are showing.
Of course, armor and weapons aren't the only things that can be enhanced anything is possible as long as it's a non-living thing.
A group of mischievous Imps are causing trouble. They're doing everything they can to make people angry (like dropping items on people's toes) as they try their magic. This could happen to anyone, even otherworlders testing their new magic.
Due to their mischief, a group of magical performers who were meant to enhance some animal statues to make them move around in a show ended up cursing a lot while the magic was happening. Because of that the animal statues did come to life, but they're angry and started running around, ramming into people left and right. It's especially alarming when one of the statues enhanced is a giant elephant, and some of the statues were meant to be used in a bullfighting show. Those are some very, very angry stone bulls coming at people in high speeds!
The natives don't want to break the statues, but they would like the statues to be stopped. With kind and loving words the effects of the curses will vanish and the statues will calm down and act like they were supposed to.
Of course they would appreciate catching as many Imps as possible so they could be returned back outside into the Summer Segment.

[Mercenary maths with Byleth! He's awfully pragmatic about this, but also...]
Also, they're snowskeletons. I'm skilled with fire magic, so more than likely this will take little to no effort at all. Unless you wish to go for one of the other quests? The Blue Flash, for example?
no subject
[ Between the two of them, they're more than well-equipped to take out a few... okay, Alear is maybe not so keen about dealing with more undead things, especially undead things he's never fought before, but they can't be worse than the Corrupted, right? ]
I might have to rely on transforming and using fire breath if they're really weak to fire. I tested it out to make sure it works– [ He shows Byleth the Bracelet of the Ancestor. ] Have you ever heard of the Divine Dragon, Tiki?
no subject
No. I'm only aware of Rhea and Sothis - and yourself, of course.
[Though, considering Seteth and Flayn's colouring and close relationship with Rhea... Sothis certainly had stayed quiet on who was a Divine Beast and who wasn't (though she sure was quick to hiss at him whenever Shez dared to breathe in his close proximity).]
no subject
[ With Alear's blessing, of course. He'd helped Alfred activate the ring he came with, so he doesn't see why Byleth can't use Tiki's bracelet, minus the part where Byleth becomes an emblem himself, but that's not for a long while, right? ]
Want to test it out?
no subject
I'll admit I'm curious but... are you sure?
[Also, what would borrowing those powers entail, exactly? Alear had mentioned transforming, so would Byleth be able to transform too? To become a divine beast despite lacking the ability to transform himself?
Or, he assumed he lacked the ability to transform. While time manipulation was as easy snapping his fingers and conjuring flame, to achieve a draconic form was an exercise in frustration. Sothis's instructions of "you just change forms!" was utterly unhelpful, and nothing Byleth had tried (meditation, intentionally endangering himself, leaping off a cliff that one time) had triggered it.
So, to have the possibility simply handed to him...]
no subject
[ He removes the bracelet and gently slips it onto Byleth's wrist for him. Though Alear has lost all contact with the emblems imbued into each jewelry piece, the power still stirs from within, as familiar to Alear as his own skin and bones. However, he recognizes that Byleth may not be as comfortable with the idea just yet, so he's trying to give him time and take it slow. ]
You just have to hold it up and say 'Engage!' to summon the magic, and with my blessing, it should work for you.
[ He hopes... it's still just a theory, but Alear has faith. ]
no subject
I see...
[He studied the bracelet for a long moment, turning his wrist this way and that and watching the light catch on it. He didn't feel any different, though he did feel Sothis rousing from her nap to groggily watch the proceedings with vague interest.]
Then, do you mind if we try it? In a more... open location.
[Turning into a dragon inside the guild miiiiiight cause some issues (like damaging the ceiling).]
no subject
[ Here he was, all ready to jump into action and possibly wreck a whole building. He guesses he was just too eager to show off his powers to Byleth a little.
He heads out of the guild first and jogs to the nearest open field, motioning Byleth to follow until he finds the perfect spot where there's no one around to gawk at them. It's a nice day outside, and only a few prairie creatures can be found in their general vicinity. ]
I don't think it gets more open than this. The nearest building is several yards away, and you only really have to worry about crushing me.
[ A small joke... he's laughing nervously to make that fact obvious. ]
I like to think I am pretty hard to crush though.
no subject
Byleth nodded, to both Alear's words and Sothis's warning, and took a few steps back from Alear just in case. He may be quite small, he may be fairly big, or he might be massively huge - either way, he'd rather not live with the stress of almost squishing Alear due to a botched dragon transformation.]
Understood. I'll attempt the transformation now.
[As instructed earlier, he held the arm with the bracelet up slightly. As if sensing his intent, a strange projected glow began to emit around it - abrupt enough to make him hesitate for a split second before he completed the incantation with a rather flat:]
Engage.
[Fortunately, the lack of dramatics didn't impact the result any. The bracelet activated, much like Alear had hoped, and there was a brilliant flash of light before it faded to reveal a Tiki-like divine dragon.
A really. big. Tiki-like divine dragon.
Roughly the size of Fódlan's Immaculate One, dragon!Byleth towered over Alear on all fours, with a few more feathers than most engaged forms had. The plumage was an ashy grey, and the hide almost black, the only hint of true colour being the slight edge of pink along the tips of the feathers and the vivid green of his eyes. It was clear Byleth found the abrupt shift in perspectives disorientating too, as he took a few awkward side-steps to the left before regaining his balance, giving his head a little shake.
It was really, really good that they didn't do this inside the guild.]
no subject
One of his hands reaches out towards Byleth's snout, hoping Byleth has still retained his consciousness through the transformation, though Alear can't imagine why he wouldn't. Everyone who's used Tiki's bracelet has managed to still keep their sense of self on the battlefield. ]
You make a really pretty dragon. Not that you aren't pretty all the time...
[ Another nervous chuckle. Yeah, that was probably too much. ]
I mean, I think the transformation worked well for you. If you're not too uncomfortable, would you mind giving me a ride to our destination?
[ It would be easier than walking on foot the whole way there, and Byleth should practice flight a bit before battle. ]
no subject
Pretty all the time?
Byleth processed that, feeling more than a little dumbfounded. He only drew out of it when Alear's hand pressed against his- nose? Snout? - the sensation both alien yet pleasant at the same time, and asked if he could carry him to their destination. Destination-? Ah, right. The Quest. Of course. Byleth had almost forgotten in the excitement of... everything.
Refocused on their mission, he boxed up that weird hiccup and set it aside to be picked apart later. It was likely the compliment had just taken him off guard, or the transformation was more taxing than assumed - the likely explanation for whatever weird... thing Byleth felt in response to 'pretty all the time'.
(Indigestion, maybe? He did eat those weird shrimp earlier.)]
I can carry you. Let me lower myself and you can climb onto my back.
[Hopefully the flying knowledge is instinctual, otherwise the next few minutes were going to be very embarrassing for him...
With this minor worry in the back of his mind, Byleth bent his arms - front legs? - and rested his head on the ground, to grant Alear room to climb onto the space between his wings. It was a little strange, adjusting to having such a serpentine neck, but fortunately it didn't mess with his balance any. Likely the magic of the transformation - what was the point in turning into a dragon if you spent the whole time tripping over yourself or becoming nauseously dizzy?]
no subject
Alear takes advantage of Byleth lowering his body to climb up carefully on his back. Without any kind of saddle, he'll have to grip on tight to Byleth's neck scales for purchase and give his own thigh muscles a good workout, but it's nothing he hasn't suffered before while riding on one of Ivy's wyverns.
Once he's mounted properly, he gives Byleth another gentle pat to signal he's ready. ]
How does it feel? I'm not too heavy, am I? I have been getting a little too carried away eating all the new cuisine in this world.
[ He likes to think he does a good enough job burning calories off on the battlefield and Byleth is fairly bulky in the state, so it shouldn't be too uncomfortable. He hopes. ]
no subject
It's alright, you weigh little. If you feel tension in my body, it's because I'm just... unused to having someone this close to me. I'll adjust.
[With that he unfurled his wings, stretching them out to their very limits before giving them a few, experimental flaps. He wanted to make sure the movement didn't dislodge Alear, and to get a feel of the flex of muscle and joint rotation. Once he was satisfied, he crouched, muscles bunching up and-
-he leapt up, his wings beating powerfully as he did so, catching the air despite the basic laws of physics saying such a thing on something so big was impossible. It turned out flying was instinctive! Fortunately for them both...]
no subject
...Doing...good...
[ He's really going to have to find a saddle from somewhere if he tries this again. As it is, his eyes are clenching shut while he counts the seconds until they're on the ground again. He doesn't chance opening them until they're grazing the clouds, and he has to admit, the view from up here is breathtaking.
As he starts to relax and enjoy the ride, his voice also gradually steadies– ]
How does it feel now?
no subject
The world was mapped out beneath him, and while Byleth had ridden the back of a wyvern before, somehow this was far different when it was his own wings bearing him aloft. It was as if some ancient, primal instinct he didn't even know he had was satisfied by the sight, and he so caught up in the sensation he very nearly forgot that he had a destination in mind and a passenger in tow. He refocused himself quickly, heading towards the Winter segment while aiming to try and flap as little as possible for Alear's comfort.]
It feels... nice.
[The word felt lacking compared how he really felt, but Byleth didn't know how to place it into words, so 'nice' would have to do.]
Are you comfortable back there? You were clenching hard on the way up.
no subject
All great over here. I haven't flown off yet.
[ ...Insert nervous laughter. But it is nice being this high and taking in the scenery. The world they're in looks nothing like his own but is still spellbinding in its own way, especially all the glimmering lights from the tall buildings down below. ]
I think I see our destination up ahead. You can descend and land when you find a large enough clearing.
no subject
[Byleth fought the instinct to just tuck his wings in and dive to lower his altitude, knowing that may accidentally throw Alear off his back. Instead he angled himself at a slight downwards slope, gliding lower until he spotted a flat, open clearing amongst the white snow and tundra of the Winter segment.
He banked gently, spiralling downwards like a vulture until his feet hit powdery show, kicking up a small cloud of it as he trotted out the momentum of his landing until he came to a natural halt. After a quick scan of their surroundings to ensure no enemies were lying in wait, he bent his front legs and rested his head on the ground to aid Alear in his dismount.]
no subject
Alear hops down from his perch once they're close enough to the ground before patting the side of Byleth's torso in gratitude. ]
Can you stay like that for a bit longer? If you can manage breath attacks, I think you can take out a good deal of the skeletons by burning them down before they even get close enough.
[ What the fire doesn't kill, Alear can simply run through with his sword. ]
no subject
[while Byleth was a master of fire spells, he admittedly had never tried expelling flames from his mouth (maybe that's something he should look into at some point). But much like flying, perhaps this would be instinctive?
In the back of his mind he heard Sothis let out a very amused hum, but she didn't say anything when he gave her the equivalent of a mental nudge. Left to potentially flounder and embarrass himself, Byleth subtly widened his stance and inhaled - deeply. He felt the surprisingly flexible ribcage of a dragon expand to accommodate the sudden influx of air, and a heat began to build in the back of his throat - it prompted him to open his jaws, and just as that hot pressure reached some sort of unspoken critical point:
Like the Immaculate One searing unholy heretics from the land of Fódlan, a beam of superheated plasma was 'exhaled' onto the unfortunate skeletons shambling about in the snow. Heat met ice, creating a minor explosion of steam to accompany the actual, uh, explosion that sent the skeletons scattering wildly in all directions (including up!) like a stack of skittles whacked with a bowling ball. A good chunk of them had been near vaporised on the spot, but it didn't kill all of them - no, there were still quite a dangerous few who had been out of the immediate blast radius... and now honing in on their direction!
Though, it wasn't exactly something Byleth was paying attention to currently. So caught off guard by the the strength of his breath attack and how hot it was, he'd accidentally inhaled at the tail end of his breath attack from sheer surprise and ended up with a lungful of residue smoke and heat.
The effect was immediate: he choked and promptly descended into a draconic coughing fit, fighting for his goddamn life as Sothis cackled in the privacy of his mind, likely anticipating this very scenario. Uh, looks like you're on your own for the skeleton's counterattack, Alear!]
no subject
Thankfully, the skeletons are a lot less frightening than the corrupted, so Alear feels less terrified by a whole group of them charging at him than he normally would be, albeit not by a whole lot. They're still unpleasant to look at, and the sounds of their bones scraping against one another as they move is probably going to feature in some of his nightmares from now on. ]
I'll keep them off you while you recover!
[ His sword swipes at the first couple to approach, cutting through them with as much strength as he can muster. If Byleth weren't currently a dragon, he'd let him use the Ring of the Connector so they could dual attack for a second blast of pure magical energy, but Alear will just have to make do by trying to chop through their rattling bones instead. ]
no subject
He wasn't cowering or flinching, as such, but there was a tension in every swing of Alear's blade - one of fear and anxiety. It was a little puzzling, because surely a Divine Beast would be as fearless as Rhea and himself were in combat, but Byleth put it out of mind to contemplate later in a far less dangerous situation. Some sixth sense was warning him that his time was swiftly running out for his draconic transformation, and he wanted to make use of this powerful form as much as he could - and having his last action be hacking up a half-singed lung was just pathetically sad.
So, very mindful of where Alear was, Byleth sprang forwards and trampled a few of the skeletons underfoot, feeling the bones crunch and snap as his full weight was slammed onto them. He lashed out with his claws, swatting a few more aside and swung his tail, batting some up in the air, and just... well...
Okay, he was having fun. There was something strangely liberating about just going feral, smacking things around and stomping on them while knowing that nothing could be done to you in turn. The skeletons' bones weren't sharp enough to pierce his hide, and their advantage of numbers meant nothing compared to a Divine Beast like him. He understood why Sothis complained so much about him fighting as a 'piddly little human with a stick' now. If you were used to this level of power, being a human must seem tedious.
But alas, all good things must come to an end. Just as he cleared out a good few, giving him and Alear some breathing room, the transformation ended and he had a brief second of disorientation going from 'huge Divine Beast' to 'average-height human'. He almost tripped onto his ass, but thankfully caught himself at the last second.]
Oh- ah. I'm human again...
[Put out. He sounds so put out.]
no subject
There's another wave of them coming. I don't think there's a safe spot for you to rest just yet, but I can hold them off until you can fight again.
[ His gaze is darting around wildly, trying to think of a better strategy at the moment, but they both really are trapped in the thick of things. ]
What a bad time to be without any elixirs. Can you at least stand on your own yet?
[ The ones he's used to carrying around vanished when he made it to this world. He should have recruited an emergency healer to come with them as back-up. ]
no subject
I'm fine. I was just disorientated.
[Just ignore how his voice came out all husky. He gently extracted himself from Alear's grip, standing under his own power, and gave himself a bit of a shake. There was no alarm or concern in his posture, even with the new wave of skeletons shambling towards them. He just gave them a considering look and hmm'd, like he trying to think of a proper way to tackle the organisation of the pantry rather than a combat strategy.]
Well, their only advantage is numbers. Alear, let us fight back to back. I will be able to use my spells more effectively if I know where you are.
[Friendly fire is a thing outside of the musou games sadly]
no subject
[ He's still worried, but he doesn't have time to dwell on that as skeletons are fast approaching. Alear would rather deal with that first, so he relinquishes his hold on Byleth and repositions himself at his back with his sword drawn.
The skeletons rush in a chaotic swarm without any sense of order, which does make it easy to cut through them, his sword cracking through brittle, long-deceased bones and/or snow. Most of the skeletons crumble as soon as their legs or torsos are compromised, but that doesn't stop their jaws and remaining teeth from snapping at his shoes until he stomps on them to stop.
What he does eventually notice as they eagerly try to scratch at him is that they are not aiming to claw at his flesh but instead keep grabbing his clothes. ]
...You don't think they just want to cover up, do you? What if they're just cold?
no subject
[Literally. He is standing here as a human flamethrower, his hand extended as he doused the incoming skeletons in a continuous yet low-powered fire spell. The skeletons mindlessly braved the heat, though: the ones made of snow melted before they reached him, but the ones comprised of actual bones powered through, blackened and charred and easily cut down with an absent swing of his sword.
But, he acknowledged Alear was right about one thing. They grasped for his clothes before they fell. None of them made an attempt for a fatal blow. Just scrabbling and gnawing at his vambraces, or yanking at his greaves. It was perplexing. What did they need clothes for?
Unless-?!]
Ah. I see... they're not cold, Alear. They're perverts.

we can fade to black here as he'll drop Byleth off at home.
