Galliard nods. "I hear that. It's really hard to meet civilians when you're out in the field most of the year."
He looks out at the fireflies for a moment. "So you can basically fly, then."
He's talking about the ODM gear.

"It's close to it, at least. It feels like nothing compared to flying on an actual winged mount, though. I imagine that's closer to how the fireflies feel."
no subject
"Are there actual winged things you can ride here?" Here he was, being all impressed by the ODM gear, and there are other options? Ones without a several year long learning curve?
Do go on, good sir.

"In the Spring Segment of the world, you can bond with a winged creature. You receive an amulet that lets you call them to your aid", Jean explains. "They're a wide range of different animals. Mine's a lion, for example."

He shakes his head, but it's much more in wonder than in disbelief. "There's so much to see and do here. It's taking some time to get used to it all."
no subject
He lets the fire disappear before nodding. "It'll take time. Honestly, there's still a lot that manages to surprise me, no matter how long I've been doing this."
no subject
"I've been working at controlling this." He shuts his hand too, snuffing out his fireball. "They're hard to hold onto."
no subject
"Start by focusing on your fingers. Concentrate on them and nowhere else, and try to make them feel hotter. Once that works, try imagining a flame. Don't try to rush it too fast or too much at the same time, or it will become unstable."
no subject
As it turns out, focusing on his fingers and trying to make them hotter is not, in fact, good advice for someone with the Jaw titan inside them. As soon as he thinks about it, Galliard's hand ignites, all of his fingers shooting streams of flame outward.
"Shit!"
no subject
He's startled by the sudden streams of flame. So much for the slow and steady wins the race, huh?
"Uh... what the fuck?"
no subject
"I... didn't think it would do that." He glances at Jean, then back at his own hand. "They looked... oh, they looked like claws."
That explains it!

Okay, trying again! This time, he focuses on the palm and not the fingers, and the flame that coaxes itself to life is much smaller and under control. Instead of trying to force it to get bigger, Galliard just lets it sit on his palm.
"Huh. You're right, it's easier to maintain if it stays small."
no subject
"Yeah. You can slowly start making the fire bigger, get used to handling it step by step. Sure, it sounds boring, but better than burning yourself out."
