WHAT: Summer Beach Party
WHEN: June 23rd
WHERE: Solarpeak Beach
WARNINGS: none for now!
BEACH PARTY
The sun is shining, a cool, crisp ocean breeze flutters across the shores of Solarpeak Beach. There's not a single cloud in the sky, the perfect day to have a party! Whether you heard about it through Yoimiya's network post, word of mouth or just happen to stumble onto the festivities, everyone is invited to Ellipsa's scorching hot Beach Bonfire Party! Grab your swimsuits, sun dresses, or whatever you feel the most comfortable in, and join in on the fun.
➤Gonna Soak Up the Sun
Through the combined efforts of Sisu, Yoimiya, and the many kind volunteers who lent their assistance in setting up the venue, the beach party is here and open to the public! Upon arrival, everyone will be given a choice of colorful, handmade hibiscus leis or bracelets to adorn for the party. They aren't mandatory in the slightest, just a cute little thank-you gift to those who are attending. After receiving a warm welcome from the hosts, you're free to set off and have fun! Meet up with friends or introduce yourself to new people from distant worlds, the party is your oyster. Of course, there will be plenty of other activities to partake in as well. Venture forth to the fun!
Feeling brave and daring? Sitting on top of the ocean is an inflatable balance beam built especially for water jousting. Foam joust poles and life jackets (if you wish to wear one!) will be given to would-be challengers looking to scratch the itch for a fight. The goal is to assert your dominance by knocking adversaries into the water and be the last person standing. Show off your strength and become the champion of the beach!
Perhaps you might be in the mood for a bit of fun in the sand. A large area of the beach is sectioned off for the grand Sandcastle Competition. Solarpeak residents from all across the city are bustling with excitement, flocking in to watch the artists do their magic, so go wild with your creations and give them a good show! Buildings, any kind of sculpture, or even just a basic castle are all accepted, let your imagination run free. You can even drag a buddy in for a helping hand if your work of art requires assistance. For the winner, the grand prize is a summer gift basket filled with goodies for a nice relaxing spa day at home. Tucked away inside the basket are gift cards to various restaurants in Ellipsa. Don't fret if you aren't interested in participating! Anyone is welcome to walk around and marvel at the competitor's creations.

➤A Feast for All
The hosts are bound and determined to ensure that no one leaves this beach hungry. If you're craving a cold tasty treat to stave off the heat, a bustling shaved ice stall is here to cool down roasting attendees. An endless variety of flavors are available for mixing and matching, waiting to quench your thirst. If you are feeling adventurous, there are a few questionable flavors on the menu such as Bacon, Durian, Jalapeño, Ketchup, Mushroom, Pickle juice and Seaweed. Try them at your risk or if your palette is "hungry" for something more on the "unique" side.
For those who made inquiries about alcohol, special arrangements have been made! A small pop-up bar has been set up for today's joyous occasion. The bar's pride and joy is a variety of summer-themed cocktails but you can also find other basic liquor or non-alcoholic drinks if your tastebuds are craving simplicity. To go alongside the refreshing beverages, food is also provided at this small establishment. Some of the dishes on the menu are: kebabs with a hint of rum, peach bruschetta, spring rolls, fish and chips, crab hush puppies, and a spicy jalapeño popper dip (you can also ask for the ghost pepper version of this dip if you are feeling brave). All the hosts ask is that visitors to the bar be mindful of the people who can't or aren't interested in drinking.
Decorated across the shores of the beach are tables, picnic blankets, and sizzling hot grills for the designated picnic area. In a similar fashion to the potluck that took place a while back, several tables have been set up for those who like to go crazy in the kitchen or wish to advertise their food business by bringing samples to share.

Time flies when so much fun is taking place! As the last light of day begins to fade, the stars come out to brighten up the night sky on this clear summer day. However, just because there's no more sunlight, doesn't mean the party is over. Far from it! There's still lots of excitement to be had for the attendees who wish to stick around for the night festivities.
➤A Midsummer Night's Glow
On the middle of the beach, a blazing bonfire burns ever so brightly inside a log fire pit. Eat snacks, catch up with friends, meet new people, or get cozy with others should one be feeling touch starved. In need of an icebreaker? A game of truth or dare or telling scary stories makes for a good way to pass the time. Maybe you'll have a fateful encounter and land yourself a date before the night is over.
With a sky full of beautiful stars, a bustling bonfire, and a large open space, the atmosphere is perfect for dancing. The DJ for the evening is the bright and energetic Aimoto Rinku, here to bust out an array of sick beats with her turntable. There's plenty of fun to be had in a group conga line or grab a partner for a slow, romantic bolero, and dance to whatever music piques your interest. A small makeshift stage is also set up for those who wish to sing, Rinku will be more than happy to work with any potential performers. From upbeat EDM to ballads, all types of genres fill the air with music. Let loose, enjoy the melody, and dance the night away!

➤Festive Mementos
For one of the hosts, summer just isn't the same without fireworks exploding across the sky. To end the evening with a bang, a beautiful barrage of fireworks paints the night sky in various colors and patterns. As a final gift to the attendees, Yoimiya has prepared sparklers for everyone to play with. There are a variety of colors to choose from, pink, red, blue, green, orange, purple, yellow, etc. No matter what color catches your fancy, with a little flick of the wand, all of them appear like twinkling stars sparkling and flickering across the stick.
To end off the light show, fireworks representing each of the seasons burst into the sky. Blue snowflakes for Winter, pink cherry blossoms for spring, a yellow sun for Summer, and red maple leaves for Autumn. After the vibrant display, a final golden ray of light flickers and explodes into a bright, heartwarming message for all of the guests. "Thank you for attending! You are all amazing! Let's have a great time in Ellipsa!"

Well, whatever. This is at least an attempt at…something. Connection. Friendship. Camaraderie. Just trying new food. A secret fifth thing.
He accepts the offered chair, careful not to get sand everywhere or something. He's still wet, obviously, but he's not all up in Levi's personal space enough for that to be a big deal. They can just try the "brusk-whatever" and Eren will try to pretend there's no way that Levi saw him lose to Reiner at that stupid game.
Normal people things, right?
He glances at Levi, but there's not really a need to wait. Besides, if it's awful, better he tries it first. He'll feel bad if it's awful.
So he picks up the bruschetta and takes a decent size bite, chewing thoughtfully. Actually, it's…not shitty. It's a mix of flavours and textures he's not expecting, the saltiness from the cheese with the sweet fruit and the sort of sourness of the tomato. ]
This is pretty good...
[ He might be talking with his mouth full, whoops. ]
no subject
[ The stupid game was certainly a sad sight, even if it's also... good, probably, for Eren to do silly activities like that, like a normal person. They're absolutely going to discuss his lax combat performance later, though. For now they can have a peaceful moment, because there's never enough of those, is there? ]
[ Levi watches Eren take a bite from his ... peach sandwich and does the same. The bread looks a bit greasy, making him internally reel a little at touching it, but that's fine. He can wash his hands later. ]
[ It's... actually quite delicious. He doesn't really recognize any of the tastes when they're combined like that -- okay, he picks out the peach, he thinks, and some dairy product probably, but the rest is just a blended experience that he doesn't know how to take apart. He chews it thoroughly, and swallows because he's not a damn savage. ]
Say it, don't spray it.
[ But that seems to be the entirety of a reprimand he's doing for now. Mostly because no spit or crumbs were actually released his way, so he's just being proactive and can afford to be chill about it. ]
...It's not bad.
[ In Leviese that's pretty much the equivalent of saying it's amazing, especially when he stares at the brusk-whatever contemplatively for a moment and goes in for a second bite. ]
no subject
Eren took that loss against Reiner pretty hard, if only because he feels so…something…about Reiner anyway. They should be enemies. They are enemies. They were definitely staring at each other in a way anyone with eyes would notice. This is also fine and not going to ever blow up in anyone's face! Today is a great day, okay! Either way, his competitive streak took several blows from that bullshit, not to mention losing to Cal afterwards. Who knew that ocean swimming was so different from lake swimming?
But for now, there's whatever passes for peace when you're Eren Jaeger. He puts a hand to his mouth, glances down, almost embarrassed. Right, manners are a thing. It's not even that he doesn't have any; he does, in fact, and he doesn't often totally forget them. It was just good.
He's not stupid enough to press his luck (about this), though, so he'll be more careful. ]
Sorry, Captain.
[ He's gotten better at Leviese, both from before everything at home went to (more) shit, but also from existing in the same space for months. Sure, they…don't talk about things as much as they should (Hange will point this out to him in a little while when they're both freaking out about Levi's less than informative note). Or at all? But it's not as if they completely ignore each other either, and for all of Eren's wild existence where he cannot keep things straight, he still knows how the people he cares about work.
Levi is harder to read, but not impossible.
In some ways, Eren himself is actually harder to read than Levi, when he wants to be.
Levi didn't say this tastes like shit, which means "not bad" is fairly high praise.
One corner of Eren's mouth twitches like he might smile, but he doesn't get there. Maybe he just doesn't remember how anymore. But he chose well! He'll take that. ]
Right? I wasn't sure it would go together but it does.
[ This time when he takes another bite he's very careful to swallow before he says anything else. ]
I didn't think you'd come out here, actually.
no subject
[ Existing in the same space was certainly helpful, but while more short-lived, existing in the same brain was probably really kicked off the... well, some sort of an understanding, didn't it? ]
[ Levi's expressions can be hard to read most times, but it's usually not all that hard to tell what he's feeling from his eyes. More importantly, he's consistent. Once you get to know him, it's usually not too difficult to predict his reactions to certain things. Eren had not only gotten better at masking his true feelings, but he also always had a certain unpredictability to him, making any observations even harder. ]
[ He's been unraveling that himself lately, though, which is a good thing. Today it's a twitch, tomorrow perhaps he'll manage to curl that mouth corner up. He can remember. Levi wants to believe that he can still remember how to do it. ]
[ He looks contemplative -- he wasn't sure cheese and peach could go together either, but it seems they've been proven wrong this time. He doesn't think he needs to say anything more about it, because the fact that he's still eating it is compliment enough, but he does glance at Eren again briefly, considering his response (and making sure his mouth is empty before he bothers speaking). ]
[ Which, he just sort of thumbs rather rudely in the direction where Hange has been seen last. They're... having some sort of a Pokemon battle or something, but it's away from the germs and weird creatures infested water so Levi deems it safe enough for his interference to be unnecessary at the moment. ]
I figured I should keep an eye on them.
[ He doesn't actually say "and you", perhaps not wanting Eren to feel like he's still under surveillance despite all the strides he's been making, but from the way Levi sort of stares at him afterwards, it's probably kind of implied. ]
no subject
The eyes thing is probably one of the big differences these days. Levi's eyes are expressive once you get to know him. Eren's…aren't. They were when he was younger. Now he gets unfocused. Not distracted; he doesn't tend to get completely out of it to the point he's not able to pay attention to what's going on around him. If he did that, he'd just wind up dead. But when he's not really looking at here and now, what is there to read? In some ways, it's years' worth of practice, because time doesn't matter in the same sense that it once did. In some ways, he's just completely batshit, whatever. Or…more than he was to start.
And some of it was cultivated on purpose. He couldn't let his friends read him anymore. He couldn't let Levi read him anymore. Or Hange. It was too dangerous. There was too much at stake.
Those clouds are clearing up, much to his chagrin, thanks to that little mind meld and distance and time…and effort, in the end. It's contradictory, his displeasure at moving back towards the actual human being he once was, and his desire to hold on to the people he cares about again. Contradictory, the way he still shuts down entirely but does things like bring home something he thinks Levi will like and leave it on the counter or roll over here on the beach with a miraculously sand-free plate of peach sandwich, or how he punches Jean in the face and then calls him a friend. Just Eren things!
He looks over to where Levi gestures. Hange has…oh, is that a Pokemon? Eren didn't think to bring Yamask, largely because this is a party and Yamask is a weird little ghost creature who doesn't seem to enjoy crowds. Can it do battle? Sure, probably, but he doesn't know shit about how to do that. Maybe he'll learn sometime, which sure would be unfair to all these starter Pokemon.
Levi looks back at him with that stare, which makes Eren feel slightly self-conscious. It's not like he's chewing with his mouth open, jeez! Lesson (temporarily) learned, give him a break, captain!
Oh. Oh, right. Of course Hange isn't the only one that needs a babysitter. Except Hange is the one most likely to do some reckless shit at the beach, right? Like pick up a poisonous jellyfish (not that any of them have any idea what that is)! ]
They're fine, Captain.
[ I'm fine, he means, which is a lie every single time he says it, but less of one in this moment than it could be. ]
You kinda look like you don't hate it out here, though.
[ The flowers and the sunglasses are a tell, Levi. ]
no subject
[ They're a bit of an inverse mirror of each other that way; Levi gained more emotions as he got older. It's part of why Eren's blank stare on that airship stung as deeply as it has; it's not only the desolate bastards of the Underground that he knows that look from. He had worn it once himself, too, when the world had left him to die. ]
...Yeah.
[ He knows they're fine. He knows that he's probably overreacting a little... but then, there could be unknown poisonous creatures around, and Hange was dead, and he got them back, and how fucking stupid it would be if they just perished again because they let some weird critter sting them? ]
[ Just like he knows that Eren probably isn't going to endanger the people here, but it just feels irresponsible not to keep an eye out regardless. He's living his second chance here, too, after all. ]
[ Levi looks a little surprised at the observation, but the sunglasses are certainly complimenting his poker face pretty well as he glances down at the lei. ]
This? They wouldn't let me in unless I put it on.
[ Which, again, double babysitting duty! Concessions had to be made!! ]
[ ...he is kind of enjoying himself, though. ]
no subject
But for Levi, already protective by nature once you knew what to look for, to have someone back…of course he's here keeping a closer eye on them than he maybe needs to. Eren can understand it. That's the type of person Levi is, watching out for those around him.
Even at his best, Eren has always been too caught up in his own stupid bullshit to be like that. His ability to care about others sort of...fluctuates, based on how others live up to his expectations, or based on how close to them he is. Would he be extra protective of someone he lost if they came back? Aside from his mom, who knows.
Eren can't find enjoyment in things the way Hange can, though he never could, even at his least unhinged. He wanted to love the ocean, but all he found there was despair, wasn't it? Hope or despair. It always felt like despair, emptiness that stretched into the distance, that stretched out inside Eren himself.
This isn't an ocean like that.
He did try the "fun" thing and fell in the water a whole lot. Maybe it was fun. Maybe it was just embarrassing.
He can't tell if that next comment is a joke or not. He lost his own lei somewhere before now, probably falling in the fucking ocean a few times. ]
Uh-huh.
[ He takes a bite before he says something else, just in case whatever else he thinks of to say is crossing a line. Chew, swallow, etc. ]
You still look like you're having an okay time, though.
no subject
[ The "fun" thing had been mostly embarrassing for Eren, as far as Levi is concerned, but he'll let him know about it soon enough. If he did have fun with it, though, that's good. Probably. ]
[ He glowers a little, but doesn't deny it. ]
I've had worse. It's very... [ He pauses for a moment as he ponders what word may best express something like this. People seemingly having no care in the world, no threats, abundant food, passing time with silly games. ] ...peaceful.
[ They never really saw something like that back home. He supposes it's a good thing. Makes him want to help this world save it even more. Nobody should have to live like they did. ]
[ Nobody should have to make the choices they had. ]
[ He takes another bite of the peach sandwich, not feeling like elaborating, but he has a feeling Eren understands. ]
no subject
…Yeah. It is.
[ He gets it. These people on this beach, what cares do they have? Sure, ostensibly everyone here was brought here to save this world. But there's no immediate threat. People aren't dying all around them.
Eren himself is not even a threat to them. Well, not at the moment. He is always a potential threat, isn't he, with his fucked up memories and too much power. But he hasn't done anything even vaguely threatening to anyone who isn't Reiner so it's probably fine.
He has no idea what to do with peace.
Their world will probably never be peaceful. That wasn't exactly Eren's goal, because fuck the whole rest of the world. He has no idea that his death sets him up to be a martyr, that most of the non-Jaegerists got turned into titans and killed, that years after the fact things on the island are shaky.
Would it change his mind? Nothing else has, so who knows.
But he knew there was so little chance of real peace. He hopes for it, days like this one for the people he loves. For himself…it doesn't matter, does it? People like Eren don't deserve peace.
But he has it today anyway, just like all the other things he doesn't deserve.
Maybe he wants to save this world, too, to give them this instead of the literal scorched earth they'll find at the end of the road at home. He's not quite there yet, but he did already say he'd do anything to not go home, which includes saving this world from whatever threat there is. ]
It's good you came.
[ He means I'm glad you're doing something other than cleaning the house but we don't express our real thoughts here. ]
1/2
[ Maybe. Or maybe it's all just a fleeting moment, the eye of the storm, before hell breaks down on this world, too. ]
[ For now, though, at least, it's peaceful. And there are peaches. ]
...You, too.
[ He really seemed to be having fun with the jousting and whatnot. It seems like a decent chance for Eren to be... normal, or whatever passes for normal nowadays. Not a weapon of mass destruction, but just some awkward kid with too much intensity. ]
[ It doesn't really change who he is, but they can afford to pretend sometimes, right? ]
2/2
I'd still be in the dark about the pathetic state of your hand to hand skills otherwise.
[ And he munches on the rest of his peach sandwich. ]
no subject
At Levi's comment about his hand to hand skills, he almost chokes on the last of his bruschetta. ]
What the hell! He had an unfair advantage with some stupid ass Marley training!
[ He knows that's not really an excuse, but still! ]
no subject
Did you learn the move?
[ He's not interested in your excuses, Eren, but maybe something good came out of it... ]
no subject
...Yeah. I learned it.
[ At a high emotional cost since he was being an asshole, but whatever! ]
no subject
Good. Then you can figure out how to counter it. You can't always rely on Titan transformation, especially in the city.
[ Don't fucking blow citizens up, Eren! That said, this doesn't mean he's expected to figure it all out alone. ]
I've started training Jean again. [ Let's assume he mentions the place and usual times since I can't be assed to look it up-- ] Feel free to drop by. I'm sure Mikasa would be happy to help you brush up on your techniques, too.
[ Is that an encouragement or a threat? Who can tell! ]
no subject
[ Probably? He probably will. He has pretty good tactile sense; he learns fast. He was never the smartest or fastest or strongest. But he's always been determined. And it's not like he's some slouch. Even pissed off as he'd been in that game, he'd managed to calculate well enough to mimic the move, to see Reiner's counter.
He knows how to transform in a dense area without immediately murdering everyone, but…well, a fight is dicier. Point taken. ]
…I guess so.
[ That doesn't sound like an optional exercise. It probably wasn't for Jean and it probably isn't for Eren. What the hell. They aren't scouts anymore, right, especially Eren? Yet here he is, not even considering mouthing off about it or anything.
Maybe it's just familiarity for Levi, too, something to hold onto in a world they don't recognise. ]
no subject
[ There may only be two Marleyans here now, but they know very well how fast that can change. And, well. Levi trusts his ability to read and react in fights on the fly, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared just in case they end up needing to throw down. ]
[ He could ask Gabi to show him the mood, of course. She went through all the same training Reiner has. But there's just something about telling a (former) twelve-year-old that you want to learn it so you can crush their fellow countrymen if needed that doesn't sit too well with him. ]
[ Anyway. ]
[ The offer is optional, mostly, though if Eren doesn't show up he might get some "tests of reaction" randomly while going about his day, so it's really up to him. ]
[ As long as they're here, as long as they're alive, their hearts remain pledged. Of course they're still scouts. ]
[ And yes, even Eren. The only way to leave the regiment was death, wasn't it? And it's not like they had time to dishonorably discharge him once shit hit the fan, so... ]
Great. I look forward to it.
[ There's definitely something cathartic about beating Eren up after all. ]
no subject
[ From Eren, this could probably sound like a threat. It isn't. He would never threaten Levi of all people, at least not directly. But he's a little distant when he says it, recalling where he saw those rifles, the way that people carried them in trenches, explosions and blood.
Can he be normal, even at the beach? Of course not.
He's not sure he is looking forward to training with Levi. He doesn't care about pain or injury, but he does care about being humiliated like he was here today. He's a much better fighter on land, and better than he used to be. Part of that is he's meaner than he was before. He's not as afraid of things, or rather, he shoves down his fear a lot better now.
But he's not afraid of Levi, at least, even if he should be. ]
…Yeah.
[ Well, anyway, before he can catch more shit about the whole situation with Reiner, he'll just bounce. That's how he deals with most things anyway, like a completely healthy normal person.
He stands up, careful not to fling sand onto Levi. ]
I hope you really are enjoying this beach, Captain. See you at home.
no subject
[ They had rifles in Paradis, so it's not exactly an odd statement to make. But Levi has caught glimpses of that -- the hospital, the trenches, almost too quick to parse but it's somewhere at the back of his mind nonetheless, bringing out a phantom pain of a missing leg again, and he absently touches his injured knee to remind himself which ache is actually his. ]
[ Levi wouldn't mind him sticking around longer -- and he maybe has some more questions about the Reiner situation now that the important part is taken care of -- but he's not going to stop him, either. They have time. ]
[ Plus he's not really sure if he wants those answers, anyway. ]
...yeah. You too.
[ It had really looked like the old Eren was peeking out when he was -- okay, "playing with his friends" might be a choice of words for Reiner, but it's not entirely wrong either. The anger and the stubbornness and being ready to fight and looking like an idiot, without the grim implications immediately looming all over it. It seemed oddly normal, if not quite the same as back in the old days. ]
[ Even if it's just a small thing, a fleeting moment, he's glad that Eren got it. ]
