taming the mounts

{ given the quests available, this seems like a good one to get started with. he doesn't have to venture too far and has the option to avoid danger. he has no idea what drew him this way, but there's certainly a look of relief when he sees guizhong there along with the creature. the winged horse is certainly bigger than most animals he's tried this with, but he'll use his autumn power to ask small favours of animals to try and calm it. }

There's nothing to be scared of, please calm down.

{ it likely isn't as successful as it would be with a squirrel, but at least it isn't trying to run anymore. for the rest, he'll speak towards guizhong: }

Hehe, hello Ayato.

[Guizhong turns her attention to him for a moment to offer him a smile and then goes back to soothing the creature, running her hand up and down its face as she hums and speaks softly. Whatever Ayato had done it seemed to work wonders in calming the creature and she hardly has to do anything at all as he comes in closer.]

It's no interruption. In fact, it seems you arrived at just the right time.

[The winged horse stomps one hoof lightly against the ground and throws its head again, though not enough to pull it from Guizhong's hands.]

She's lovely, isn't she.

{ he hasn't been one to manage horses back home, so it's a new thing for him, but this ability does come in handy at times. }

Perhaps it was merely because of the progress you'd already made. { and not him cheating- } Though I would have to agree. Are you hoping to keep her? She seems to have a rather... feisty personality.

Then I would say we are perfectly matched, wouldn't you?

[Guizhong looks up at him when he draws near and gives him a wink along with her smile as she continues moving her hand up and down the white streak down the centre of the horse's face.]

I'll keep her if she wants to be kept. That will be entirely up to her. But-- [The horse lightly nudges her nose against Guizhong's head, and she laughs.]

But I have a feeling she won't mind that idea at all.

{ a smile is returned to that statement. }

Maybe so. { at least the horse seems to be calming all the more now under her gentle touch. }

I think the same. Now she's getting used to you, it seems you've made a new friend.

I've always liked making friends.

[Though to Ayato that much is probably obvious by now, with how she has pursued friendship with him if nothing else. She calms the horse enough that the creature lowers her head for more petting and gently nudges Guizhong's shoulder with her nose.]

This place truly is wonderous at times. [How could she not be entranced with something like this?] Would you like to touch her?

{ oh, indeed. it's hard to not notice how outgoing she is, a stark contrast to the god he's used to. }

I noticed, but it's a nice way to live. { and he won't disagree, there are awful things about this place--one is holed up in the abandoned mansion--but there is plenty about this place that is wonderous, just as she says. } If she wouldn't mind.

{ he'll hold his hand out, palm up, in question. he won't be offended if she ignores it and stays with guizhong at all. }

[It would be of benefit to Guizhong to be able to evaluate how the animal does around others, not just herself, so she does have a slight ulterior motive in what she asks Ayato to do.

Not that she would push him if he refused but she doesn't think he will.

The animal does not seem to mind Ayato's presence and moves her head slowly to give a warm whuff of air into his open palm. Her lips move as if she's searching for a treat.]

Oh, what a good girl. See, nothing to worry about.

{ he isn't like thoma where he fusses over every animal he meets, but if one is close and seems friendly enough to want attention, he won't refuse either.

he'll just wish it was a dog instead-

he does chuckle as she seems to look for something, seemingly expecting food. }

Was there any fruit in the area? She seems hungry.

Not that I noticed, but then I wasn't looking.

[Since Ayato has no food in his hand the horse tosses her head again and chuffs, then nudges her nose under Guizhong's chin.]

Oof-- Goodness, she does have spirit. [The woman laughs.] I think the two of us are going to be good friends. Have you found anything to your own liking?

Nor was I. { he gives a faint laugh as the horse moves away from him due to the lack of treats. } But I think the same, she returned to you rather quickly, though she may be swayed by someone else if they'll feed her. But no, I wasn't really looking for myself anyway, more for the stable a friend works at occasionally.

It seems almost unfair to keep something like this penned up in a stable.

[Though if they could be tamed effectively, then why not? But that isn't why Guizhong herself is here.]

But did you find any that might be more suited to it? You do seem to have a way with them.

While that may be the case, people could use a mount when venturing out further afield and these may be more hardy than regular horses.

{ guizhong is more considerate than him, to be fair. }

Not yet, though I haven't ventured too far yet either.

Hmm.

[She does wonder about that. Stronger in someways, perhaps, but to achieve flight they would surely need to be lighter... and therefore possibly more delicate? Guizhong leans a little to one side as if examining the horse that way, then she shrugs to herself.]

You haven't? How far were you thinking of going?

{ unless magic is what lifts them, he wouldn't assume either way really. }

Not especially far, after all I'm... it's still a little early.

[No, she doesn't exactly catch his meaning there.]

{ the smile he gives her is tight, and he glances away. }

While this isn't the segment it happened in, I'm still overly cautious about the dangers out here.

[Guizhong smiles then, and she reaches out to gently take one of his hands in both of hers. She gives it a light squeeze.]

Would you like to stay with me for a while?

{ his gaze softens at the way she holds his hand between hers, and she'll find no resistance as she squeezes it. }

If it wouldn't be too much trouble? I wouldn't wish to bother you either.

You are never a bother, my dear, and if you were you can be certain I would tell you so.

[She shoots him a playful wink and lets their hands drop, but she keeps one of her own tucked in against his palm. Looks like he's stuck with her for the moment.]

You don't need to be worried with me around. I'll look after you.
