[ he had been exploring at his leisure. sometimes, as a dragon, sometimes the way a human would. both experiences were mandatory if he wished to get a grasp of what life was like here. and this quest . . . it seemed strange. stranger than the others. as if half couched in mystery and horror. and rafal has always liked a good horror story, being one himself.

so he waited, skeptical that anything would happen when footsteps alert him of another's presence. he turns to them with a scowl on his face . . . which quickly melts away into astonishment. ]

Nil. No — It cannot be. I saw you die.

( ii. sunwaning — the equinox bakery )

[ the one good thing about all these bakeries is that it made it easy for rafal to find a job. he had thought it would prove to be more difficult, especially since he has never held a "job" before and lived in a castle, but he was never fussed about work and this is the kind of work he enjoys. he spends most of his time at the back, creating elegant confectionaries and designs, idly swatting cats. should you make a special order, he'll see it through and come out to deliver it.

yes, that fancy cake with a layer of chocolate, creme brulee with an oreo base that melts on your tongue is his creation. and he's waiting to see if you like it, tapping his foot impatiently against the floor. ]

( iii. hope you have a landing strategy )

[ he could see why such a location was troublesome. a hindrance to those who wished to visit and had no easy way to get back and forth. and while he's not really the generous type, he knows a certain level of kindness is necessary.

necessary for the world to thrive. he's not too concerned if someone is unkind to him personally.

he transforms into his dragon self, fanning his wings as he settles into it. ]

[ rafal can be seen around amberfell and nightwake. for the most part, he'll be hitting up every bakery/cafe at least once in a week. in less populated/forested areas, you're welcome to spot him in his dragon form. he is also looking for a potential room mate so that he has adequate living quarters. his inbox can be found here.

Ah. I haven't done much exploring aside from quests and my own personal errands, though they've taken me far enough afield.

[ Saya spreads out a small blanket and begins placing food on it. She herself doesn't sit on the blanket, preferring the grass, it's to keep bugs away. She packed a good array of very sweet treats -- small cakes and truffles, marshmallow brownies, white chocolate and caramel cookies, and a thermos of sugarcane juice flavored with fruit. ]

What would you like to try?

This is the sweetest drink recipe I could find. It's pure sugar cane juice.

[ though it's unlikely that it'll match rafal's standards, at least it'll be sweet. he takes a sip of it and nods. adequate. ]

I honestly don't know where you'd find anything sweeter than this, so I'm glad it's not too far below your standards.

Maybe there's a magic sweetener in this world somewhere, but I haven't found evidence of it yet.

Oh, is that what it takes to catch your attention? [ just a bit amused here]

It's just conjecture, but given the maple trees and dessert slimes and such, it wouldn't surprise me. I got some extra hot peppers for someone, [ a classic first date gift really ] perhaps I can find a mega sweet thing out there. I'll give it a look the next time I'm in the library.

I got some honey from trees as a quest but it wasn't sweet enough.

[ though "sweet enough" for rafal is sugary enough to leave a person's mouth burning. ]

Where do you find food sweet enough on your world?

It's not hard. You just keep adding sugar.

Out of curiosity, do your nutritional needs call for sweetness or is it to make food palatable?

[ Since Saya loves human food but it does very little for her nutritionally, it seems like a valid question to her. But does he need to, for instance, eat protein like meat? Does sugar get added to that? ]

[ rafal scoffs. ]

Why would I concern myself with that? I am a dragon. I don't have dietary needs the way humans do.

It's just a question. I don't need to eat food either, but I still need to consume blood.

[nilhilistic]

We don't really have needs like that. Some of us can go for a long time without sustenance.

[sangreine]

I need to feed every three days or so, and it'll get less as I get closer to hibernation.

Come to think of it, I have no idea what would happen if I didn't feed for enough time. I mean I know I'd pass out, but whether I'd lapse into a coma or die or anything of the like would be just a guess.

Dragons can hibernate for large lengths of time. Centuries, even. But when I was caring for my sister, I ate very little in the thousand year period.

I see. No wonder you can afford to be picky.

So you can hibernate but don't have to, and can eat but don't have to. You have no biological needs at all?

[nilhilistic]

We have some. We do require sustenance and sleep after all, but they're not prerogatives.

That is why many people see dragons as divinities.

You do seem closer to the gods I've known than to something like me.

I'm grounded in biology even more than a human. Feeding, rest, mating and touch to a lesser extent, they're all part of my instincts, in addition to relying on input from the world around me.

That is not a bad thing.

That depends on how well one likes me drinking their blood or blatantly hitting on them. Some people can be touchy about those matters, one or both. But I see your point.

[nilhilistic]

Fell Dragons don't do all that well either. They're reviled among many. And though we live long, it is not the easiest thing to accomplish.

Why would you be reviled? If it's just for being what you are, that opinion is worth less than nothing.

And what do you mean about it not being easy to accomplish?
