[ he had been exploring at his leisure. sometimes, as a dragon, sometimes the way a human would. both experiences were mandatory if he wished to get a grasp of what life was like here. and this quest . . . it seemed strange. stranger than the others. as if half couched in mystery and horror. and rafal has always liked a good horror story, being one himself.

so he waited, skeptical that anything would happen when footsteps alert him of another's presence. he turns to them with a scowl on his face . . . which quickly melts away into astonishment. ]

Nil. No — It cannot be. I saw you die.

( ii. sunwaning — the equinox bakery )

[ the one good thing about all these bakeries is that it made it easy for rafal to find a job. he had thought it would prove to be more difficult, especially since he has never held a "job" before and lived in a castle, but he was never fussed about work and this is the kind of work he enjoys. he spends most of his time at the back, creating elegant confectionaries and designs, idly swatting cats. should you make a special order, he'll see it through and come out to deliver it.

yes, that fancy cake with a layer of chocolate, creme brulee with an oreo base that melts on your tongue is his creation. and he's waiting to see if you like it, tapping his foot impatiently against the floor. ]

[ he could see why such a location was troublesome. a hindrance to those who wished to visit and had no easy way to get back and forth. and while he's not really the generous type, he knows a certain level of kindness is necessary.

necessary for the world to thrive. he's not too concerned if someone is unkind to him personally.

he transforms into his dragon self, fanning his wings as he settles into it. ]

[ rafal can be seen around amberfell and nightwake. for the most part, he'll be hitting up every bakery/cafe at least once in a week. in less populated/forested areas, you're welcome to spot him in his dragon form. he is also looking for a potential room mate so that he has adequate living quarters. his inbox can be found here.

Dragons can hibernate for large lengths of time. Centuries, even. But when I was caring for my sister, I ate very little in the thousand year period.

I see. No wonder you can afford to be picky.

So you can hibernate but don't have to, and can eat but don't have to. You have no biological needs at all?

We have some. We do require sustenance and sleep after all, but they're not prerogatives.

That is why many people see dragons as divinities.

You do seem closer to the gods I've known than to something like me.

I'm grounded in biology even more than a human. Feeding, rest, mating and touch to a lesser extent, they're all part of my instincts, in addition to relying on input from the world around me.

That is not a bad thing.

That depends on how well one likes me drinking their blood or blatantly hitting on them. Some people can be touchy about those matters, one or both. But I see your point.

Fell Dragons don't do all that well either. They're reviled among many. And though we live long, it is not the easiest thing to accomplish.

Why would you be reviled? If it's just for being what you are, that opinion is worth less than nothing.

And what do you mean about it not being easy to accomplish?

A Fell Dragon's talents lie in resurrecting and controlling the dead. Among other unsavory talents. They're not known for having peaceful natures.

And as children, we were often pitted among our siblings. As a result, very few survive.

You mentioned that about your siblings. Resurrecting the dead... that sounds like a heavy burden more than something to fear or hate.

Is it? I think there is something to be feared about a person who could kill you and resurrect you as their puppet. And you would never know the truth.

My turning abilities are a little similar. Although they have to be performed while someone is alive, it kills who and what they were. And when they wake, their mind is mine. They do know the truth, but they don't care. They only care about serving me. Which is why I don't do it anymore.

Maybe that's why it sounds like a burden to me. I'd never claim not to be biased.

I suppose to some it would feel that way.

To me, it is just power. For me to use as I wish.

And yet you haven't in the time you've been here. [ Saya would definitely have heard about that. Or maybe this place's magic prevents it. ] When was the last time you did use those abilities?

Not long ago. I resurrected a world for a time.

[sangreine]

Why? [ It seems relevant. She won't judge him without knowing the reason(s). ]

I needed them to fulfil my goals. So I used them.

[sangreine]

[ You're really gonna make this like pulling teeth, huh. ]

What goals?

[nilhilistic]

[ he absolutely will. ]

The goal to gain power. I needed to trick the last remaining people who lived to summon more power on my behalf.

[sangreine]

[ Then prepare to say goodbye to some molars. ]

Power for that end?

[nilhilistic]

Power is purpose.

[ and power ensures your existence. ]

[sangreine]

There must have been something you wanted out of it. Or that value you place on power must have come from somewhere. [ Is this by chance related to that awful thing where he had to fight his siblings ]

[ it came from his terrible dad, but rafal is loathe to pin any kind of blame on him. it was rafal's fault. he knows this. ]

Isn't power enough? Power to travel worlds, power to be free. Isn't there power you want to escape your own chains?

[sangreine]

The only power I've ever wanted is power enough to protect people.

If I wanted my own personal army, I could have it. I don't.

But you want power all the same, regardless of what you wish to use it for.

That is my reason.
