[He's never been to the botanical gardens before... And he's never been to one back in Japan, either. Let alone for something like this?! Izuku feels nervous but he's had a good time spending time with Bridget before so he's also very excited?
The birds chirp softly up in the trees of the gardens where Izuku is waiting to meet up with her. He fidgets on the spot and checks his phone a million times to make sure he's got the time right...]
[ All Bridget knows is that the gardens seem like a nice place to spend the day--and she isn't quite sure what else to do or where to go for a date. So. Here they are. Bridget is fidgeting with her hair as she hurries down the path.
Hopefully she isn't late.
She comes up on a short stop when she spots Izuku and awkwardly waggles her fingers towards him. Smiles. ]
[He isn't quite sure what to do with a date day either he's just going by the seat of his pants here. But at least spending time with Bridget is always nice.
She isn't late and Izuku straightens to attention and gives her a wave.]
Bridget-san! [... Should he stop calling her that??] You made it!
[ Bridget is, as always, all smiles. Still, it's impossible not to notice that there's a nervous energy around her that's not usual for the bubbly young woman. She eases up closer alongside Izuku, cheeks pink. ]
You know, you don't have to add the 'san' to my name, if you don't want to...
[ She knows that it's a mark of respect, but it feels a little impersonal. Like he's calling her 'Miss Bridget' or something! ]
It's really nice to see you again. Ah... I don't have a whole lot planned.
[ Said sheepishly. ]
I thought maybe we could just walk around and look at the flowers and stuff? Maybe get a coffee or something?
[He does jolt on the spot when she suggests that he doesn't need to add the honorific. He's just so used to it he even calls one of his closest friends Uraraka-san too. It's just ingrained into him. But that does make him blush.]
Ahh... Right! Bridget is just fine! I'll try to remember that.
[He's just a little nervous but he looks up at the gardens with a smile anyway.]
That sounds like a great plan already, though. I wouldn't mind walking around to see all the exotic plants they have here. A lot of what I can see here is already so different than anything I've seen in my world.
[It's Izuku's first day working at the Moondrop flower shop and cafe. He never thought he would get a part-time job like this one but when he saw the listing something just compelled him to apply for it. Knowing that Katsuki was taking on several part-time jobs of his own it just felt right for Izuku to also do his best. And particularly after the fight they had...
It turns out that working at the flower shop is oddly perfect for Izuku. He's charged with cleaning and labour like moving bags of dirt into the back and taking care of watering chores. Some deliveries too! And maybe along the way, he'll learn a thing or two about flowers?
He smooths out his apron and lets out a short sigh as he finishes moving the last bag of dirt into the back room. It's nearly lunchtime and then he'll have some watering to do... So, he wanders back out into the front to prep for that. Not knowing that he has a visitor...?]
[Katsuki had originally accepted two jobs out of pure spite. But as the days went by and he found himself in a routine, he... kind of liked working. Which was surprising to himself, as in the past he found doing normal, every day tasks for other people was boring. Unless it was a group effort, but even then he gets annoyed with other people in his kitchen when they have no idea what they're doing.
It's why his two jobs were perfect for him. One at a professional restaurant, working in the back at his own station with no one doing anything besides helping him or moving around him. The other one required him making a meal every day around the same time, and that was what he was finishing up as Izuku was out at his first day of work.
He wasn't shocked at all when Izuku came to him a few days ago about his new job, excitedly explaining how he got the job and the aspects that he was eager to learn from this kind of job. It was at some kind of flower shop that Katsuki never noticed when he walked by it on his way to the restaurant. But when Izuku mentioned the place, the memory of seeing it on his route fled to his mind. That's how he ends up knowing where to find it, when he decides to stop by for a visit on his way between jobs.
He.. kind of had a feeling Izuku wasn't going to pack lunches for himself, and there were plenty of restaurants near his place of work but he didn't want him spending his money that he wanted to help split the rent with so badly on food. Plus, it's always nice to learn new recipes and keep his cooking skills sharp since they're needed so badly.
So, after he finishes making a spicy curry for his daily client, Katsuki sets to making a bento for Izuku. There's plenty of ingredients to choose from in their stocked fridge, and he whips something up in a couple of hours. The food inside the bento include: non-spicy curry, taiyaki, steamed vegetables and......... a couple of rice balls that may or may not look like their favourite Hero. He may have also made himself one to eat before leaving.
Katsuki first drops off the food he made for his client, and then heads off towards his place of work already in uniform. Just as he remembered, the flower shop was on the way there and as he gets close he can see those green curls in the window. It has his heart skip a beat, and he ignores it entirely as he walks to the store and gently pushes the door open, a bell ringing to let Izuku know a customer was here.]
[As soon as the bell chimes Izuku lifts his head to great the customer!]
Welcome-
[But it's followed by that loud declaration and Izuku perks up like a deer in headlights.]
Kacchan! What are you doing here?
[Izuku quickly comes over to see him. He looks happy to see the blond even if it's a bit surprising! And he totally doesn't realize he's got a smudge of dirt on his cheek but that's all part of the job. Flower Boy Deku!]
[The dirt on Izuku's cheek is the first thing Katsuki notices, and it gets an amused little scoff from the blonde. Without skipping a beat, he lifts a thumb, licks it, and uses it to wipe Izuku's cheek off like a mother would.
In his other hand is the bento, wrapped in a fabric covered in skulls.]
I'm on my way, but I knew you weren't gonna make yourself anything for lunch so I figured I'd drop this off.
[Ah, yes.. the dreaded question. It gets Katsuki to lock up, frozen in place as he's faced with the hurdle of having to admit that yes, he did spend hours this morning making a bento specifically for Izuku.]
No, I bought it!
[No, Katsuki. That's not what you're supposed to say--]
Edited (edits this too rq dont look x2) 2023-04-17 02:11 (UTC)
[...????????? Did Katsuki buy it or did he make it?! For some reason, Izuku has an in inkling that Katsuki did not buy this. That doesn't really seem like that's his style.
Which means he made it for Izuku. His cheeks start to feel warmer! Especially that spot where Katsuki's thumb brushed!]
T-Thank you, Kacchan!
[He takes the package gingerly like it's a prize!!]
No one has ever made me a bento before! ... Erm, besides my mom. But you know what I mean!
[Katsuki flinches back the moment the bento is taken from his hands, like he was about to catch fire if he stood too close to Izuku. His expression looks angry, maybe disgusted even at Izuku's bright smile. But by now Izuku should know that it's just reflex, more than anything.]
Sh-shut up! I had the stuff laying around and I was bored, okay?!
[He's actually surprised no one has made Izuku a bento before besides Inko... he's such a popular boy. But maybe no one else really knows what food he likes... Katsuki only does from how much the two have eaten together or around each other.]
And like I said, you're dumb enough to forget to make yourself lunch and instead buy some garbage that ain't good for you because it's nearby and convenient!
[Luckily he's very conditioned to Katsuki's reactions to things so he still looks like he's just been given the prize of a lifetime. His eyes are wide with surprised delight and his cheeks are still brushed with bright pink.]
Okay- Kacchan! Thank you, still!
[Izuku never really had that many friends until high school! And even if he has a good amount of friends now it's not like anyone in the hero course has time to make a boy a bento box! So this really is the first time ever that someone's gone out of the way for him. It touches his heart!]
I was just going to check out the noodle stand that's just down the street from here... [aka he totally was going to buy some garbage] But if I get to try Kacchan's homemade bento that's ten times better!
[He holds it close! He'll eat his veggies this way for sure!]
Ah! Did you want a small tour of the shop? Do you have time?
[God, there he goes again acting like Katsuki was the neatest thing since sliced bread. It's just a bento!! It'll definitely be the most amazing bento Izuku will eat in his life-- but still! Stop being so embarrassing!!!]
Not a lot, so make it snappy.
[He growls that out, to keep up his grumpy appearance and make it seem like he didn't even want to stand in the shop. Because Katsuki.. actually liked flowers. Nature was nice, and even Katsuki could enjoy the smell of a nice bouquet.
But Izuku seems to be immune to that. It must be the fact that he's gotten his first bento (not from his mom) ever that's given him a sheen of delight.
So, he turns on his heel and waves Katsuki to follow him.]
I'll show you around where we keep the flowers and the hydroponic shelves too! Maybe next time I could show you the cafe.
[He'll do just that and show Katsuki into the biggest part of the store where all the flowers growing are stored behind glass panels and properly temperate rooms with higher humidity.]
Here is where a lot of the seasonal flowers are. With these pods, everything can be grown out of season too! Isn't it amazing? For now, I won't be doing much of the growing but I'm going to be helping with heavier work like getting pots moved and watering!
[Katsuki follows behind Izuku, tilting his head this way and that when he's shown the flowers growing and Izuku explains the purpose of the rooms.]
It's your first day yet you're already talking like a Pro.
[It's a statement that sounds annoyed, but he's impressed. Like always, Izuku is a fast learner and he's sure in no time he'll be allowed to handle the flowers himself.
Katsuki peers through the glass, looking at some of the flowers beginning to bud. It looks like there's some roses in there, too.. that reminds him of the one dangling off of his phone.]
So, are you gonna start covering our place in plants now that you work here? Is that something I need to prepare myself for?
[But there is a little sparkle in Izuku. Seems he really is enjoying this kind of thing so far. And as usual, Izuku is a very faster learner. He totally didn't stay up until three in the morning reading everything he could find to prep-]
I still have a lot to learn so maybe I'll wait a little while. Or maybe I can start with something easy like a cactus or some bamboo or a sunflower...?
Don't get a cactus. You'll just stab yourself on it all the time.
[Clumsy boy... though it really was kind of cute seeing how into his job he already was. It's a new area of skills that neither of them really ever thought too hard about, and he knows Izuku genuinely enjoyed learning new things.
[A genuine question as Katsuki has no idea how sunflowers are even grown. He.. just assumes since sun is in the name, it's probably grown in a lot of sunshine????
Though sunflowers... they kind of make him think of Izuku...]
[He does seem pretty excited about all of this stuff. Who knew that Izuku would have an interest in plants and flowers? But he does love learning new things.
Izuku looks down shyly.]
But thanks for coming by, Kacchan. It actually means a lot to me.
[That honesty feels like a sharp pain in Katsuki's chest, followed by a warm feeling in his face that he's starting to get used to. Izuku is always being so sappy all the time... but this was a particularly nice thing for Katsuki to do for him, and it admittedly feels good to get acknowledged as much as he hates it when people acknowledge the nice things he does for them.]
It should! Not everyone gets to have a handmade bento by a pro chef, you know!
[Honestly, this is monumental so Izuku really can't blame Katsuki for hiding behind his ego for this one. This was very kind-hearted of him and Izuku is just really touched and surprised and happy all packaged into one.]
It does! It does, I'm really grateful, Kacchan!
[This bento is a prize!!]
I'll make sure I make it up to you somehow!
[Izuku... trying his best to make a bento in the future? It's more likely than you think.]
