Potluck Mingle: Welcome Party

When March 2nd
Where Blossomcrown Central Park
What Potluck Mingle/Welcome Party
What Potluck Mingle/Welcome Party
About.
What had started with Mami stress-baking far too much cake and offering to give some away, had lead to a number of other offers to bring food, and soon she had ended up in charge of a substantial potluck mingle. Well, she supposed it would make for a nice welcome party for everyone else who had been dragged into this strange new world with her!
And so, a number of small tables and picnic blankets had been set out with cakes, cookies, hot dogs, burgers and other sweet and savoury treats that her and others had been brought along. Mami had even taken the time to decorate the table with little flowers that she'd gathered as well, just to add to the atmosphere that the cherry blossom trees already provided.
Hopefully it would be a relaxing, pleasant afternoon.

Notes.
OOC: Feel free to make your own TLs, mingle, interact with each other and all of that stuff! I'll add a comment at the top for people to add what they're bringing along for reference (but contributions are of course not mandatory).

I'm glad you enjoyed them. Did you live in Bordeaux long?

[ Needless to say she does not look fifty years old. But considering her husband's big mouth it's not hard to guess why. ]
no subject
Ah. Right.
[And then he says that, but anyway.]
Let me know if you're ever feeling nostalgic for a particular dish, then. I won't guarantee that I'll be able to recreate it, but it might be interesting to try.

I want to say canelés, but those require special molds. At least the traditional versions. They'd taste just as good out of a different pan as long as they were the right shape.

definitely one of the intended possible interpretations, A+] [Another blink, then he'll lift a hand to rub at his chin thoughtfully.]Never say never. I doubt it's impossible, at the least.
no subject
look she's sweet but not the sharpest knife in the drawerexcept for her actual sword that's real sharp so tread carefully]I'll happily sample any desserts anyone makes. I'm not picky. And you've clearly got a talent for it.
If it helps, I'll happily pay for supplies and your time.

he is DOING HIS BEST or will once he realizes it's an issue] [His head tilts.]Desserts are that big a deal?
[He'd have at least one devoted customer if he did actually open a bakery, then. That's... not nothing, but. Well.]
no subject
...Not a big deal, it's just...
[ do not perceive her bonkers appetite plz ]
no subject
... It's nice to have a taste of home sometimes? Whichever or whenever that home was.
no subject
That was diplomatically put. Thanks.
no subject
I do try.
[And, hmm.]
May I ask where else you've lived? To better prepare myself for what you might request.

Like I said my memory's pretty spotty, but for sure Japan -- Okinawa to be precise, Vietnam [ don't pay attention to this slight waver in her voice it's fine ], and somewhere in Russia. I also speak a variety of European languages, Italian and Spanish and Portuguese and some slavic dialects, a bit of Mandarin, though probably not well enough to have lived there. My English is closer to American English than British English but I've at least visited both, maybe lived in America.

It's a second or two longer before he responds, and when he does, it's largely on automatic.]
I cook mostly European and, ah, British or American cuisine. Japanese as well, of course; I've been living there for the past eight years. Russian wouldn't be impossible, however, nor would Chinese, provided I had the recipes.
[Not that Russia exists anymore, where he's from. It might now, but he would have to ask Suzaku about that.]
no subject
Did I say something wrong? Sorry if I brought up a bad memory or something.
no subject
The political landscape of my world is especially fraught, that's all. From what I've heard, it's been getting better, but you caught me off guard nonetheless. It's nothing you need to apologize for.
no subject
I can give you some recipes if that's something you're interested in. Sometimes the best way to know a culture is through their food. [ Not that she's biased ]
no subject
You'll have to be my guinea pig, then, I'm afraid. How else will I know if I'm getting them right?
no subject
no subject
Then we have a deal.
no subject
no subject
Just be sure to mention the extent to which it matches what you remember. I'll extrapolate the rest.
no subject
Anywhere you want to start? I'm sure I can find the recipes somewhere. [ Or she'll pester one of her housemates into helping ]
no subject
Chinese would be best. I've more exposure to that than Russian food.
[Euro-Britannian food. Whatever.]
That'll make it easier to tell when I've veered off course.
no subject
[ For all her innocent vibes she is well traveled. Comes with being old af and also globe-spanning murder quests. ]
no subject
He pinches the bridge of his nose briefly, then—oh, to hell with it.]
Russia no longer exists on my version of Earth. I'd need to see a map to determine if the borders at all lined up.
