What had started with Mami stress-baking far too much cake and offering to give some away, had lead to a number of other offers to bring food, and soon she had ended up in charge of a substantial potluck mingle. Well, she supposed it would make for a nice welcome party for everyone else who had been dragged into this strange new world with her!

And so, a number of small tables and picnic blankets had been set out with cakes, cookies, hot dogs, burgers and other sweet and savoury treats that her and others had been brought along. Mami had even taken the time to decorate the table with little flowers that she'd gathered as well, just to add to the atmosphere that the cherry blossom trees already provided.

Hopefully it would be a relaxing, pleasant afternoon.

For the sake of his own sanity, he'd been taking that one particular post in small doses, but he'd caught those interactions at least. Interesting.]

I'm glad you enjoyed them. Did you live in Bordeaux long?

A little more than fifty years. I think. My memory's a little spotty. [ To say the least. ]

[ Needless to say she does not look fifty years old. But considering her husband's big mouth it's not hard to guess why. ]

Let me know if you're ever feeling nostalgic for a particular dish, then. I won't guarantee that I'll be able to recreate it, but it might be interesting to try.

I want to say canelés, but those require special molds. At least the traditional versions. They'd taste just as good out of a different pan as long as they were the right shape.

I'll happily sample any desserts anyone makes. I'm not picky. And you've clearly got a talent for it.

May I ask where else you've lived? To better prepare myself for what you might request.

Like I said my memory's pretty spotty, but for sure Japan -- Okinawa to be precise, Vietnam [ don't pay attention to this slight waver in her voice it's fine ], and somewhere in Russia. I also speak a variety of European languages, Italian and Spanish and Portuguese and some slavic dialects, a bit of Mandarin, though probably not well enough to have lived there. My English is closer to American English than British English but I've at least visited both, maybe lived in America.

[Those are definitely names he's either never heard outside of a history class or at all, so Lelouch is taking a goddamn moment to parse what the hell Saya just said to him. Of course, he... a world in which Britannia never existed at all would likely be for the best, and weren't there plenty of worlds he'd read about besides with nations that were completely foreign to him? So that's... fine, probably. Normal. Perhaps?

It's a second or two longer before he responds, and when he does, it's largely on automatic.]

I cook mostly European and, ah, British or American cuisine. Japanese as well, of course; I've been living there for the past eight years. Russian wouldn't be impossible, however, nor would Chinese, provided I had the recipes.

[Not that Russia exists anymore, where he's from. It might now, but he would have to ask Suzaku about that.]

The political landscape of my world is especially fraught, that's all. From what I've heard, it's been getting better, but you caught me off guard nonetheless. It's nothing you need to apologize for.

Oh. I'm sorry about that. World politics can be truly awful when they're a mess.

I can give you some recipes if that's something you're interested in. Sometimes the best way to know a culture is through their food. [ Not that she's biased ]

You'll have to be my guinea pig, then, I'm afraid. How else will I know if I'm getting them right?

[He's more amused than anything, so yes! Also strongly suspects this was the entire reason why she offered in the first place, but he hardly minds, so.]

Chinese would be best. I've more exposure to that than Russian food.

That'll make it easier to tell when I've veered off course.

China's a big place, I'm most familiar with the Southern and Northeastern provincial dishes. But anything Northwestern overlaps with Russian a fair bit, actually.

[ For all her innocent vibes she is well traveled. Comes with being old af and also globe-spanning murder quests. ]

Not to say that there aren't Britannians who enjoy cuisine from the former Chinese Federation every now and again (or is it back to being the Chinese Federation?), but with what most Britannians are like about any food outside of certain categories...

Russia no longer exists on my version of Earth. I'd need to see a map to determine if the borders at all lined up.
