café date
Today, before the morning rush, and likely too early for most people, Kaeya was filling the display cases of today's assortment. There was also something new he wanted to add but wanted to get Diluc's approval first. As the redhead made some coffee, Kaeya went about reheating the little breakfast sandwiches. They were by no means some sort of new creation, he got the idea from elsewhere. But he figured why not? The biscuits were buttery and soft and savory, it went well with the sausage patties, the egg, and slice of cheese.
He set the small plates down on the table with their sandwiches and a fruity muffin. Having fire magic sure came in handy for keeping things warm. "How much longer for the coffee?"
no subject
While he makes the coffee he watches Kaeya out of the corner of his eye, a small smile on his lips barely noticed by himself while he observes the other man stocking the display case with the baked goods for the day. They were doing well here, he thought, with a good customer base and a decent income. It wasn't what he had expected when he arrived here, but... he's not complaining, either.
"Just a few minutes. Assuming you don't want a burned roast."
He's going to do this right - taking his time with each cup, like he usually does.
"You can start without me if you're hungry."
no subject
Kaeya only huffed a little when Diluc spoke. "I was only curious, I'm not asking you to hurry."
But, given the early morning hours, the light still soft and a little colorful from the last remains of the sunrise, he was looking forward to that cup of coffee and his stomach was starting to growl.
"I can wait."
no subject
He hums to himself following the other man's response and continues in his methodical coffee making, ensuring that each of the two cups is as near to perfect as he can get it. The scent of them drifts across the room, mingling with hazy sunlight and the smell of their breakfast, and it's... nice.
Diluc brings the cups over and sits, though not before leaning down to steal a quick kiss from Kaeya.
"There. And it will be all the better for having waited." His smile is a little wry, almost teasing. "But eat something first. It isn't good to have caffeine on an empty stomach."
no subject
Because while they weren't necessarily a diner, an on the go option reminiscent of breakfast might be something people are looking for outside of muffins and turnovers with their morning coffees.
no subject
Surely not when he was the one putting them together. Diluc smirked slightly at the other man over the top of his cup before taking a sip, immediately closing his eyes and sighing as he sunk a little against the back of his chair.
That does hit the spot.
"But do feel free to stretch your creative wings. It's good to see it."
no subject
"I didn't think I'd enjoy cooking and baking so much," He replied, setting the cup down to take another bite of the breakfast sandwich. "Or photography for that matter. I wouldn't have the time back home."
no subject
But not so obvious in how he overworks himself. Not that Diluc can talk, with his nightly vigilante jaunts, but the man would not sit there and say he wasn't being a hypocrite in what he was pointing out.
He smiles to take the edge off any offence and reaches out to lightly curl his fingers against Kaeya's elbow.
"Have you found any new subjects for your new favourite hobby lately?"
no subject
But, he was smiling with a soft chuckle. Kaeya was definitely able to hide how overworked he let himself become quite easily compared to Jean. Although, the only one who ever called him out on it was sitting right next to him. Growing up as brothers sort of allowed that kind of intuition.
"A fair few," He admitted with a slightly sheepish smile. "The dragons were quite amiable to having their photos taken. Many of the landscapes as the darkness recedes and there are no monsters nearby. But, I think my best are still the candid photos."
no subject
He wouldn't have expected Kaeya to be such a shutterbug, but then again, he wouldn't have expected them to be running a place like this together, or having this kind of relationship. Strange how things can take such turns when you're so far removed from most of your conflict. His fingers slide down Kaeya's forearm to his hand, where he holds it lightly.
"We should take the horses out again soon. What do you think?"
no subject
With getting the shop going, in between quests and the events of late, they hadn't really had the time to do something like that. Not that he minded their quiet evenings and whatnot.
no subject
With a gentle, light tug, he pulls Kaeya's hand across the table towards him and kisses the back of it. His bright eyes don't leave the other man's gaze for a moment.
"I hope you don't feel like I've been neglecting you."
Does he think that Kaeya would feel that even for a moment? Not a bit, but he's allowed a little flirting.
no subject
He shook his head. "Of course not. But you can make it up to me anyway with that date."
no subject
"I don't think it should be too difficult to align our schedules," he says, smiling up at the other man as he keeps Kaeya's hand near to his lips. "We have a few things to do around here, but nothing so urgent that it can't be put aside for an afternoon."
