WARNINGS: A stupid amount of chili dogs. PROBABLY FEELINGS? Listen, some people have personhood issues. Maybe Boomdow.

Sonic new it was around his Birthday. Vaguely. Move around planets enough and its hard to track the date, he had a birthday not too far from when he arrived on Earth. So the BEarthday was very fitting. And, well, Shadow woke up from cyro the same day or day after, so Sonic figured he could share it with his Shadow.

But also explaining that to people would be weird, and telling WAY too much, and also Primedow and SonIDW had their birthdays around the same time and that's why the banners say Birthday.

Sonic was nothing, if not stupidly sentimental. He knew he was throwing a party for his Shadow because he deserved it and well, he isn't going to just ignore the others. Maybe talk about a week of celebration or something for next year.

The beauty of superspeed though is he can set up a party FAST. He just has to make sure Big Blue is busy upstairs for a few minutes and BOOM, party is set up.

First and foremost, the party is an explosion of color. Why? Sonic promised Primedow and SonIDW pride flags and he delivered. There are rainbows and all sorts of other flags scattered across the yard, on the walls, and over the first floor. He's even got balloons over pride flag colors.

There was a banner that said 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHADOWS AND SONICS!' Hand painted, so its a bit messy, and made with blue, red, and black.

There is SO much food. Most of it is cake and chilidogs. Mostly because Sonic knows how much Sonics can pack away, and other people should get to enjoy these foods. There is even a variety in the cake flavors! Chocolate, white, strawberry, even lemon.

There is also coffee beans. Just....just straight coffee beans.

And some chocolate covered espresso beans, and Tiramisu. Less of that, but still plenty. And burgers for those who think hotdogs are beneath them or something.

There is also fruit salad, and guacamole with chips for those who want something kind of healthy.

There is a table labeled GIFTs and a sign. 'Be sure you indicate WHICH Shadow or Sonic. Fluffy are the younger ones.'

The party activities are scattered in the yard and the first floor of the house. Its nothing too over the top, beyond the color explosion. There is music for outside hanging out, some dancing. There is also a television for people to play video games on. (There will be DDR at some point, thanks Eva.)

Inside, there is a large stack of DVDs to watch movies inside.

There are board games on the dining room table for people to play those.

There is also a sign at the stairs to the second floor. 'RESIDENTS ONLY. If someone is upstairs, you leave them alone, even if they're one of the Birthday Boys! Any non-resident attempting to go upstairs if not accompanied by a resident will be swiftly removed.' (He figures he should account for social batteries. Especially for his Shadow and Maria. Sometimes you need a space to retreat away from people.)

[Rinku sits down and hugs him. She shakes her head.]

It's hard to try and change for people, too. Even if you really try because they really want you to be something else.

I don't think that's your fault.

Longclaw....if I hadn't disobeyed, we wouldn't have been found.

Tails didn't want to go out into the field, I was the one who insisted.

Tom has no reason to even be on GUN's radar other than the fact I was the one who snuck into his garage and he couldn't just ditch me.

[His eyes glance to the corner room.]

I was the one who pushed for Shadow to...to make the choice he did, and I thought he was dead for months.

[That was the most nebulous of reasons for his guilt, but with everything that followed before hand...]

[Its hard to not feel like the cause of a pattern.]

...If someone does something bad, isn't that their fault?

[Rinku scuffs her feet on the floor.]

Like in the riots and stuff last month. If someone got attacked, it's not their fault for going outside. It's the fault of the person who attacked them. You didn't make people wanna hurt you, and the fact that they hurt the people you care about was because of their reasons to wanna hurt you. Which are probably really bad anyway.

I know its their fault. I'm not disputing that. Everyone makes their choices.

Some people make up for it, and some don't, but its just...

They're only in those situations because of me.

And I try.

I try to not let it....not believe it. But its hard. Its like... [He waves a hand in the air.] So often its because people want me. Because of my power, because of what they think I know, because people want to use me, and I want them to stop.

I want them to stop.

But I don't know how.

[He laughs.] So I even fall into that trap. Of trying to change. One day Tom and Maddie had to sit me down and say I didn't need to go 'may I please leave the table' like some kind of overly rich, well mannered socialite because it was kind of freaking them out from my usual attitude.

Kind of clocked I was trying to behave even more when I was living in their house because the thought of causing trouble was....

[Absolutely terrifying.]

[Sad Rinku noises.]

I don't want that stuff to happen either. Not there, not here. Not to anyone. And you went through way too much of that.

I promise, if anyone ever hurts you again, we're gonna do something about it. I know it.

[Her faith in other people's feelings about her may be shaken, but for others, it's going strong.]

I know.

That's part of why I'm afraid? Because people are helping people and then they get caught up and its...

Its not a FAIR thing to be worried about?

But its....

Not a trend I like.

Its why I want to be better. Stronger. Maybe if I am, I could keep it from happening.

...I think I get that, too.

[Leans a little.]

At first, I only wanted to get stronger so people would stop worrying and stop leaving me out of things and saying I couldn't do it. I still want that kinda, even though my friends say I'm strong enough now, and even though they'll always worry. But... I also just wanna make sure I can help them. And not let all that stuff happen again.

[He nods.]

[Hesitating a moment.]

[And then he leans against her. Despite the distress, he can keep his quills relaxed, don't want to poke her.]

Yeah. I don't want to lose anyone again.

I know it'll happen some day. That's....that's just part of the deal.

But it'd be easier if it wasn't because of me, I think. Then I'd just miss them.

[Instead of miss them and feel guilty about it.]

[Rinku swishes her tail from side to side. She turns to hug the sad fluffy birthday boy.]

We don't wanna lose you either. Or make you feel worse if we're gone. I'm gonna do my best, okay? We all really love you.

[OH NO]

[SHE USED THE L-WORD.]

[It doesn't matter that its platonic, this little hedgehog is secretly still starved for affection. He's gotten Enough that like, he can usually be chill about it, not make it obvious how desperately he yearns for love and affection at any given moment.]

[But it doesn't change the fact seven years left a permanent scar that sometimes likes to be ripped open and THERE IS THE L-WORD.]

[Did you know hedgehogs chirp?]

[Because they apparently do.]

[The sound comes out of him and he jumps a bit, startled because oh no.]

[OH NO, HE HASN'T CHIRPED IN FRONT OF SOMEONE IN AGES.]

[The chirp turns into a kind of embarrassed whine and he may just press his face against her side and try to pretend he's not giving into what he thinks are owl influences, maybe hedgehog influences, ALWAYS HARD TO SAY.]

[Rinku blinks. She doesn't speak hedgehog (that we know of), but she hugs him and chirps back in monkey, worry? Sad? She smiles down good-naturedly.]

Are you okay?

I haven't chirped since I was a kid, I thought I forgot how without copying Longclaw, can hedgehogs just chirp on their own?!

[He is so embarrassed!]

Yeah! They can do that. I mean, the animal kind, I dunno what all they have in common with the you kind. But the animal kind does it when they're happy or having fun or they're curious about something or when they wanna greet another hedgehog.

[Ah, Rinku and animal facts.]

I don't actually speak hedgehog, monkey was the closest I could do.

More than you would think, and different in ways you wouldn't have expected, I've quilled three times already.

[Its because he grows up more.]

I thought I was just mimicking Longclaw, she was an owl.

[He wants to roll into a BALL.]

Huh, I guess that makes sense? I mean, you're way bigger than the animal kind, you're you-sized.

[Well, at least she isn't laughing at him!]

That's not embarrassing, right? It's just a thing. Sometimes I chirp too just 'cause I'm used to it, and that's not even my species.

Unfortunately. Gotta get quills that are proportional, but its maddening to get them all.

[And then having to destroy them all.]

I'm usually more aware of these things before they can happen. [And he can never be Quite Sure how people will react.]

Huh... so then it's a feelings thing? That's okay. I have lots of feelings all the time!

You can't just spring the L-word on a hedgehog, gives a shock and then there's chirping, just all sorts of startling.

Oh! Uh. I guess I gotta remember that. It's kinda hard.

[At least when you super adore basically everybody forever.]

I love you to, as a friend, because I have discovered a crush and you are not in the crush zone, but I love you too, its just always a lot to get that kind of word especially when I'm not expecting it and its not a you thing, its very much a me thing, oh its so much a me thing, and I wouldn't have chirped if I wasn't happy, it was just-
