Sonic new it was around his Birthday. Vaguely. Move around planets enough and its hard to track the date, he had a birthday not too far from when he arrived on Earth. So the BEarthday was very fitting. And, well, Shadow woke up from cyro the same day or day after, so Sonic figured he could share it with his Shadow.

But also explaining that to people would be weird, and telling WAY too much, and also Primedow and SonIDW had their birthdays around the same time and that's why the banners say Birthday.

Sonic was nothing, if not stupidly sentimental. He knew he was throwing a party for his Shadow because he deserved it and well, he isn't going to just ignore the others. Maybe talk about a week of celebration or something for next year.

The beauty of superspeed though is he can set up a party FAST. He just has to make sure Big Blue is busy upstairs for a few minutes and BOOM, party is set up.

First and foremost, the party is an explosion of color. Why? Sonic promised Primedow and SonIDW pride flags and he delivered. There are rainbows and all sorts of other flags scattered across the yard, on the walls, and over the first floor. He's even got balloons over pride flag colors.

There was a banner that said 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHADOWS AND SONICS!' Hand painted, so its a bit messy, and made with blue, red, and black.

There is SO much food. Most of it is cake and chilidogs. Mostly because Sonic knows how much Sonics can pack away, and other people should get to enjoy these foods. There is even a variety in the cake flavors! Chocolate, white, strawberry, even lemon.

There is also coffee beans. Just....just straight coffee beans.

And some chocolate covered espresso beans, and Tiramisu. Less of that, but still plenty. And burgers for those who think hotdogs are beneath them or something.

There is also fruit salad, and guacamole with chips for those who want something kind of healthy.

There is a table labeled GIFTs and a sign. 'Be sure you indicate WHICH Shadow or Sonic. Fluffy are the younger ones.'

The party activities are scattered in the yard and the first floor of the house. Its nothing too over the top, beyond the color explosion. There is music for outside hanging out, some dancing. There is also a television for people to play video games on. (There will be DDR at some point, thanks Eva.)

Inside, there is a large stack of DVDs to watch movies inside.

There are board games on the dining room table for people to play those.

There is also a sign at the stairs to the second floor. 'RESIDENTS ONLY. If someone is upstairs, you leave them alone, even if they're one of the Birthday Boys! Any non-resident attempting to go upstairs if not accompanied by a resident will be swiftly removed.' (He figures he should account for social batteries. Especially for his Shadow and Maria. Sometimes you need a space to retreat away from people.)

[Rinku blinks. She doesn't speak hedgehog (that we know of), but she hugs him and chirps back in monkey, worry? Sad? She smiles down good-naturedly.]

I haven't chirped since I was a kid, I thought I forgot how without copying Longclaw, can hedgehogs just chirp on their own?!

[He is so embarrassed!]

Yeah! They can do that. I mean, the animal kind, I dunno what all they have in common with the you kind. But the animal kind does it when they're happy or having fun or they're curious about something or when they wanna greet another hedgehog.

I don't actually speak hedgehog, monkey was the closest I could do.

More than you would think, and different in ways you wouldn't have expected, I've quilled three times already.

[Its because he grows up more.]

Huh, I guess that makes sense? I mean, you're way bigger than the animal kind, you're you-sized.

That's not embarrassing, right? It's just a thing. Sometimes I chirp too just 'cause I'm used to it, and that's not even my species.

Unfortunately. Gotta get quills that are proportional, but its maddening to get them all.

I'm usually more aware of these things before they can happen. [And he can never be Quite Sure how people will react.]

Huh... so then it's a feelings thing? That's okay. I have lots of feelings all the time!

Y-yeah, its a feelings thing.

You can't just spring the L-word on a hedgehog, gives a shock and then there's chirping, just all sorts of startling.

[That? That makes Rinku relax in a way that makes her eyes go wide just because she didn't realize she was even tensing up.

Of course I do. I like you being you. You just hit the heart and sometimes a hedgehog has to recover, you know? Will say dumb stuff trying to keep his cool, but how is anyone supposed to keep cool when a super cool girl says she loves you? Now that's a real challenge.

[He laughs a bit sheepishly.]

[Then he's going red and this close, she'll be able to see it under the fur.]

I mean, I guess gay is somewhere in the equation?!

But that was because I promised Sonic and Older Shadow flags like six months ago to show I totally supported their relationship, and any odd reactions because how are you supposed to be normal when you see an alternate you dating an alternate of your....

Listen, I don't know how to describe my Shadow, but basically you don't expect to see alternate you making out with someone and its also a lot, but I said I'd give them flags because I was totally fine with their relationship, I just needed to wrap my head around the WHOS and not like gender or whatever.

So.

Flags. [He waves around. There are, indeed, more flags up here.]

[Rinku can't help but giggle. She looks around at the flags with a smile.]

You really made a ton, huh? What did they say about it? Do they know you like him? I'm not gonna tell them, that's probably awkward, but.

Have to see yet. [Gotta let the threads progress!] Also see if Big Blue shows up, he can just vanish into the segments for a while.

And no one knows who I like!

....except Eva, but that was because she gets the first time you realize you have a romantic feeling and I needed a sounding board.

But other than her, no one knows who I like! And he doesn't either and he's not gonna because like...

Neechan always gets it, huh? Even though she'd say she doesn't know everything.

Though... I think if you like him, and you dunno if he likes you, that's different from knowing he doesn't. So maybe something could happen one day. I mean, you obviously care about making him happy and finding what all he needs.

Eva is really smart, it was just also something we've talked about before.

[When he talked to her after Rinku's dream outed her.]

So we had a basis of understanding.

I dunno if he would or would not like me like that.

I don't think he would know, he's figuring stuff out and he deserves to have all the time for it. Telling him now just might confuse him while he's working out some stuff and I don't want to do that. And I'm happy taking care of him.

[Rinku contemplates this, kicking her feet idly.]

So you wanna let him find out who he is before telling him? That makes sense. Like if you like someone, but you know they don't want to date right now, but you also think maybe someday they will 'cause of other stuff they told you.

[He nods.] Exactly.

And like, maybe he won't want to date. Because I saw flags for that, and its possible. I would have thought I was that, until this place went 'hey, maybe options ARE open.' And even then, I dunno if I want to date so much as like...

The intensity of the feelings.

Like I would do anything to keep him in my life, but its not the same way like it is with my family.

Like I'd be content with anything he wanted to give, as long as we could stay together.

And I want it to be him. And that means he has to be able to figure out who he is, now that he has all these options open he didn't before.

[She thinks about this, tilts her head, and then smiles.]

That sounds really nice. No matter what happens, I bet he appreciates you. And maybe you got him to think about things too, even if you didn't mean to! I hope you guys both get to be happy.

But it was for like....life choices stuff over relationship stuff.

You know, the big questions that affect his outlook on life over how he looks at specific people.

[Like maybe DON'T blow up the planet in mourning.]

Maybe stuff incidentally, but that's just like interacting.

Pretty sure I don't get this intense feeling until I get hit with an empathy bomb. Like! I like people.

But then there is this click I get with people and then its like...

So like... if you relate to them? I think I get it. Or at least I understand why you would. And you probably get along really well if you're that alike.

Well, I wouldn't say we're a lot alike in personality.

We just understand a lot of the same things and experiences.

I'm pretty sure he could understand me better than basically anyone else.

Huh... So someone who gets you because they've been there. No wonder you'd fall for someone like that. It's like... I dunno, that thing people talk about where your souls are the same? Even though you're not the same the same. Like off movies and stuff.

Or like...soulbond? That might be better. Mate might not be a thing.
