WHO: Reiner Braun, Hijikata Toshirou, Levi Ackerman, Jean Kirstein, Eren Jaeger WHAT: any threads taking place during their exploration of Survival Fortress WHEN: June WHERE: various WARNINGS: tba
The idea of stuff respawning is still so weird to me…
[ He shakes his head, then answers: ]
Yeah, we'll avoid it. We know our destination, and we can fly most of the way there. [ Maybe even all the way. ] There's no reason for us to get involved in fights before we arrive.
I'd rather be fresh when we take on a place called "Survival Fortress," anyway.
How're we flying from the Winter Segment's airship station onwards?
[Somehow, he managed to miss that they have airship pilots in the group... and still he signed himself up for the adventure! This man will just roll with any mode of transport, apparently.]
[ It's a valid question, as far as Reiner is concerned. After all, winged mounts are a thing! ]
Using an airship. Eren has had his license for a long time, and I earned mine recently. Between the two of us, we'll be able to fly there with minimal stops.
Yeah. I tamed him when we first found out about them. Jean made me custom armour pieces for when I take him into battle.
[Sometimes, that's necessary - or he deems it so, in any case -, like when he tackled the hunt for the dark albatrosses, but he takes care to not expose the mount to more danger than necessary. It's just an animal, not a summons or artifact.]
What do you do when you have to fight in the air? Or do you just avoid quests like that?
I've never fought completely airborne, [ Reiner says, shaking his head. ] Not unless you count ODM gear. I use that when I need to get off the ground, but it's reliant on trees or other objects to hook onto.
[ He pauses, then admits, ]
Maybe it's a me thing, or maybe it's because I'm an Autumn. But I feel better on the ground. I haven't even figured out how to turn into a bird yet.
I don't blame you. I prefer to stay on the ground, too. But sometimes, I envy you scouts a little... or, well, I used to. Now, I finally have my own wings.
[He strikes a cool little pose and summons them, completely unnecessarily, with a loud whooshing hiss - enormous fire wings, instantly heating up the immediate vicinity until they turn from orange to green. Seeing how immaterial they are, they shouldn't be able to carry him, but the sheer amount of energy might just make it work, somehow. He dismisses them, but he's clearly pleased with himself, all but grinning. He's genuinely at ease hanging out with Reiner, feeling like he can brag about his prowess a little while at the same time encouraging him over his perceived limitations.]
[ Although Reiner has already seen Fire Wings thanks to Jean, they're still impressive on Hijikata! He grins and even does a little golf clap, completely sincere. Just as Hijikata is at ease showing off, so too is Reiner at ease encouraging him. ]
Nothing that flashy.
[ He holds out a hand, concentrating. In his palm forms a small disc of metal, which he manipulates into the shape of Hijikata's wings. Then, gemstones sprout on the wings—red, orange, and yellow, giving the appearance of fire.
He smiles a little sheepishly and holds it out for Hijikata to take. ]
[He smiles in recognition as he inspects the little artwork.]
Your metal magic is really precise already! I was so happy when I finally got the hang of it back on Avalon. For us samurai, our swords are pretty much our lives, so out of the solid elements, metal's the one that resonates the most with me.
[He holds the small wings up against the sunlight, making them gleam.]
You just recently opened up shop, didn't you? Can you make infuse it with a buff or something and make it a clasp? I'll wear it with my Floating Cape.
[ For Reiner, metal is more difficult to work with than stone or wood. So he's especially proud when Hijikata approves, his smile growing. ]
I did, yeah; it's called BraunSphere. [ A name he promised Marco he would use. ] What kind of enchantment do you want on it? Defensive ones are my specialty, but I could do something for utility if you want.
I'm already doubled up on defences, so what options are there for utility?
[He's not very knowledgeable when it comes to enchantments, only ever having enhanced his weapons in all possible ways - sharpness, strength, durability.]
[ Reiner considers for a moment, eyes idly looking Hijikata over like he might spot some sort of inspiration. He guesses Hijikata already has things like 'keeping weapons sharp' taken care of. Indeed, the best thing to focus on might be more basic things. ]
… How about something that makes you feel refreshed, like you just had a great night's sleep? Or something that improves your balance, or temporarily hides your scent?
Hiding my scent? Now that's an idea! I know that I'm easy to sniff out.
[If Medusa and Rinku's Hina can easily find him blind, then chances are others can to, be it enemies he's trying to conduct undercover investigations amongst or monsters he's trying to sneak up on!]

[It's been a good while sine he last needed the mount's services, come to think... he makes a mental note to visit it in the Spring Segment sometime.]

[ And for Reiner and Eren to bang. ]
Your bull—is that a Winged creature?

I'll have to get a few ingredients once we return, then I can enchant it. Do you wanna hang onto it until then?

[He turns it in his hand once more, letting it gleam in the sun, then puts it in his uniform jacket's inner pocket.]
Thanks, Reiner.
[He was already pumped for the expedition, but the unexpected present absolutely sweetened it.]

[ Reiner, too, feels more invigorated. He's eager to see what they can do together! ]
