WHAT: A few days ago, Marisa talked about organizing an ice breaker of sorts. Tonight, it's happening.
WHEN: Early April
WHERE: Bars around Nightwake
WARNINGS: Alcohol, bad decisions

-6pm-

The evening started at the Summer Guild Hall, with snacks and just kind of hanging around and chatting until a few people showed up. Everyone was still sober at this point. Things are a little bit awkward right now since most of you don't know each other, but there's chips and dip, though, and someone provided a veggie tray.

-8pm-

Eventually the group made their way to a pool hall. Drinks are flowing at this point, but no one is likely particularly drunk at this point unless they're really working at it. Play some billiards, drink some beer, get some overpriced nachos, and get to know your fellow partyers.

-10pm-

After some pool, the group wandered over to a karaoke bar. Prepare for terrible singing (or maybe some of you actually CAN sing??? Marisa sure can't, at least.). Maybe link a song that captures the vibes of what your character is singing and give us some idea of how well they're singing it. Sing a duet with someone! Heckle people for being terrible at this! Get cold feet and pass the microphone off to someone else! The options are endless!

After singing their hearts out, the group that was still awake staggered along to a dive bar. The clientele are keeping to themselves, the barkeeper looks surly, the drinks are suspicious, and the room is filled with gloomy corners. This is the part of the night where you semi-incoherently lay your deepest secrets bare to people who you don't know that well but are perfectly confident that these are the most important and trustworthy people in the world.

Mistakes were made. Oh god. Where are we? Why does the world keep spinning? Where do I live? I think I'm gonna be sick...

[OOC note: the drinking age in Nightwake City is apparently 18. Consider this an open mingle post, rather than a post with Marisa specifically.]

[Her pulling away didn't deter him as he moved close to her again. This time he grabbed her up in his arms and plopped her on his lap, holding her there so that she couldn't run again.]

Then why don't you tell me?

[Her state of mind was causing him to sober up a lot more quickly than he would have liked, but she needed him more clear headed than he had been.]

[That would about do it. Her eyes widen when she suddenly finds herself in his lap, her cheeks dusting a light pink as the tears continue to stream down her face.

Kainé chokes briefly before taking a deep breath and finding her voice.]

The bastard's always berating me, but I've never had to worry about anyone else hearing his bullshit...

Especially when it's so... personal...

[Giving up, she twists in his arms and leans her head on his shoulder.]

[Under different circumstances he would have found her blush cute and teased her for it. But this was not the time or the place. He patiently lets her gather her thoughts, listening to what she says. Even Weiss is quiet, knowing that now was not the time for their normal bickering.]

He's going to make life even more difficult for you. I can understand that, but you're one of the bravest women I know. Don't let him get the better of you. Take that wind out of his sails.

[His voice is gentle as he speaks and when she leans her head on his shoulder he brings his hand up, tenderly cupping the back of her head, letting her cry.]

[Kainé doesn't exactly know how to take the compliment.]

And what if shit turns out here the same as back home? What if people...

[She swallows. By this time, Nier knows the issues she has with her body, so he can probably figure out what she's implying.]

How the fuck am I supposed to do that when the bastard can spout shit whenever he wants!

[She mutters as she harshly wipes the tears from her eyes with the palm of her hand.]

Fffuck...

[At least her earlier outburt gave her the will to keep the Shade at bay. For now.]

That’s where you’re wrong. You are incredibly special. There isn’t another person like you.

[He continues to hold her, leaning back against the building. He nuzzled his cheek against the top of her head, offering comfort.]

I don’t believe things will go like they did back home. These people aren’t twisted and living in fear of Shades or anyone different than them. Have you seen the different people here?

[He rubs her back, letting her vent and cry. There wasn’t much they could do to stop the Shade from talking. But he was sure there had to be a way to circumvent the damage he could possibly do. Though he wasn’t about to dismiss a valid concern.]

Just have to play interference and let people get to know you so that they won’t fall for his poison. I know it’s an honest worry.

Tsundere...

[His words make her breathe a sharp intake of air. Her cheeks flush, but she doesn't life her head for him to see.]

You can't just say things like that!

[He doesn't mean it. He's just trying to make her feel better, or maybe he's just caught up in the moment.

Still, she doesn't move, even when he nuzzles the top of her head. She purses her lips before speaking again.]

I can't trust them yet. I can't let down my guard. It's not so... simple.

[Kainé is grateful for that comfort, even if she wants to think he'd do the same for anyone.

A few more sniffles and she wipes the rest of the tears from her eyes.]

I'll try.

[She makes to get up, his arms still around her.]

I think I'm okay now. He's gone quiet. [Another shift as she makes a weak attempt at moving away.] I should... head home.

[He smiles softly at her when she argues about that.]

I’m not just saying it; I actually mean it. You are very special.

[Nier presses a chaste kiss to the top of her head as she speaks. It was good for her to get it out of her system.]

No one is asking for you to trust them right away, but try to let people in. Lower your guard enough so that there’s at least a small opening so they can see you as the amazing person you are.

[He doesn’t let go of her when she starts to move.]

Live with me. I would really like it. Just because Devola and Popola wouldn’t let you back home, let this be a fresh start for you.

[His voice gentle when he speaks.]

My heart... it hurts!

[She nods her head slowly at his suggestion to let people in. It'll be hard, but maybe she can do it.]

I'll try.

[And that seems like it's going to be it. Until he speaks again and her whole body freezes; her eyes wide as she gasps. Did he just ask what she thought he did?

Unfortunately her answer is a sigh.]

It's not just, Devola and Popola or your village. It's the Aerie, Seafront, The Forest of Myth, even Fascade. I don't... belong around people.

[There's another long pause before she speaks again.]

I... need some time. Give me some time to think...

[She turns in his grip to look him in the eyes. Those Clearwater blue eyes that make her heart flutter, and cups his face between both hands; leaning in and pressing a firm, languid kiss to his lips.

When she pulls away, she looks uncertain, biting her lower lip, but offers a pleading look.]

Please?

[He gives her a small smile hearing that she’d at least try. He knew that was a difficult step for her in and of itself.]

That’s all I’m asking, is for you to try. It won’t be easy, but I’ll try to help the best I can.

[He frowned at the sigh but understood what she was asking and why. He wasn’t going to force her to make a decision right away.

He’s surprised when she cups his face, turning it up towards her. He returns the kiss, not hesitating, but it still startled him. When she pulls back he nods.]

Take the time you need. You don’t have to decide right now. We do have the luxury here to take our time. I know it’s a big request of you.

[He’s disappointed, but doesn’t push it right then. Baby steps.]

[She nods and offers a small smile before gently freeing herself from his hold and getting to her feet; holding out a hand to help him up.]

Don't worry about me. I've fought him off for the time being. Now get home before you hurt yourself you drunken dummy.

[It's said affectionately, even though she's trying to hide it.

Kainé starts to walk away, glancing over her shoulder in a way reminiscent to Nier but has yet to happen to her.]

Goodnight and... see ya around.

[He feels a little dejected as he takes her hand and lets her help him up. He sways a bit before he regains the balance on his feet.]

I worry, it's what I do. But I'm going... I'm going.

[He grabs her wrist as she walks away and pulls her in giving her a kiss. He doesn't keep her too long, soon letting go and pulling back.]

[She all but melts into the kiss, turning quickly around after, not knowing what to do when he lets her go. She brings her fingers to her lips, still feeling the kiss.

She hears him turning to walk away himself, biting her lip. He gets a few steps before she speaks up.]

On second thought... [She half turns, clutching one arm with a hand.] Just for tonight... I'd like to stay with you...

[Briefly, she averts her gaze, a little embarrassed from the request. Her cheeks a rosy pink, though she tries to recover.]

I mean... someone's gotta make sure you don't find yourself face down in a gutter. I could carry you?

[He stopped when she spoke up. He was ready to go home by himself and to an empty apartment, except for Weiss, who was staying quiet.]

You would?

[There's a hopeful note in his voice as he turns to look at her.]

Then come on, shall we?

Hey! [He pouts at the last little barb, but give a small laugh as well.]

[She can't help but smirk at his reaction, and all but scampers to catch up with him; her heels clicking on the pavement.

When she closes the distance, she comes to a slow stop, pausing a moment before reaching out and shyly taking his hand in hers.]

You sure you can find your way home while shit-faced?

[He hears her heels and watches her close the short distance. A smile crosses his face when she takes his hand, twining their fingers.]

Yeah, I think I can.
