🎨Open Mingle: Arts Festival
WHO: Everyone
WHAT: Annual Arts Festival
WHEN: April 25th - 27th (Friday-Sunday)
WHERE: Titanic Dome

Introduction & The Stage
Welcome to the annual Arts Festival, an event made by otherworlders for otherworlders (even if locals are always more than welcome to join the festivities). Like last year, the event is held at the Titanic Dome, in the Winter Segment. Several methods of travel have been provided, from the sturdy Giant Winter Horses to teleport crystals. Otherworlders Korra and Asami Sato have also lend their huskies for scenic husky ride through the barrier protected paths.
At the festival 'gates', everyone is encouraged to take a lightstick that they can use to cheer for their favorites in the tournaments. The lightsticks change to different colors and project a hologram of the person's name on top.
Once the clock hits starting time, everyone will be welcomed by the stage host, Ren Jinguji. He performs a song of his own before declaring the Arts Festival officialy open. There's a scedule of what kind of performances can be found from the stage.
The area around the stage is large and fit to dance and party in during music shows. There's also a bar right nearby the stage so people can also sit down and enjoy the shows from there. The Odder Otters from a summer party are there to serve drinks and snacks to everyone. Occasionally they even wander to the backstage to provide performers with cold drinks.
Artist Alley & Market
The Artist Alley has various booths by otherworlders. A lot of people have brought their own handicrafts for others to look at, in the hopes of making some sales.
As a new thing for this year, the locals have set up shop for both traditional and magical art supplies. The artists of Amberfall pride themselves about making the most high quality products. Magical supplies are especially a hit among kids, as they can make paintings move inside the picture or have the colors change between all the colors or the rainbow, as some examples.
Other stalls at the market are focused on small fair games (tossing a paintball at a picture to try and color the right section, making sculptures look different by throwing rings around them, and so on), workshops (making pottery, painting glass, among many other things) and food & drinks. The locals decided to contribute to the festival this year as a thank you for the many things the otherworlders have done.
Of course, the people with the merchandise shop have also set up a much smaller booth at the market, but this time it's mostly focused on anyone who is participating in the tournaments.
Tournaments
Various tournaments are held during the festival. On Friday, it's time for non-fighting tournaments; the Jackalope Cup and the Magic Brush cup. The fighting tournaments are on the two remaining days, with the Blade and Ultima cups having their semifinals and finals on Sunday, but the first rounds on Saturday, due to them having the most participants.
This year there's even live commentary provided by Stelle for all tournaments (except for the Jackalope Cup), who definitely has her way with words. Perhaps some comments are even a little bit silly and will make the crowd giggle.
Cheer for your favorites! Console them or congratulate them once the final results are up.
Some Unwelcome Surprises
Twice during the Arts Festival, all of the power goes off; on Friday and Saturday evenings. This is due to Zapperpillars sabotaging the power supplies, as requested on the crime questboard. It takes ten minutes to get the power back on, so the whole arena is in darkness during this time. Luckily, neither of them happen during a performance or the tournaments.
The lightsticks will provide at least a small light, though all of the names will show up even brighter in the darkness. Everyone will know who your favorite is -- or who you accidentally clicked when turning the stick on.
Final Party & Cleanup
On Sunday evening, the final party starts. There's live music on the stage, possibly even a number from a DJ. Locals have set up soundless fireworks to shoot into the skies during the songs. Everyone is also provided with some sparklers by the Odder Otters, who will also be waving them around in different colors.
Before the end, Ren takes the stage again, thanking everyone for participating and helping to make the festival as great as it has bas been. Final fireworks go up in the air, signaling that the festival this year has come to an end.
On Monday, people are allowed to come back and help cleanup. The Odder Otters are also helping. Look at one of them carrying off a single hamburger wrapper. Such a hardworker! After the cleanup Ren will treat everyone who wants to join him for lunch as a thank you.

Aimoto Rinku | D4DJ (Dig Delight Direct Drive DJ) | Summer
[Rinku's in her default DJ costume and has polished her set compared to the past two years. She's added some new songs and some returning favourites, with originals and covers mixed equally in her live DJ set.
As usual, after her set, if she's not running around doing Music Club things, you can find her either backstage or taking a rest outside, but she'll greet anyone enthusiastically.]
How was that? Everyone's doing great this year, it's so fun! Right? Right!
[2) tournament]
[Rinku did pretty poorly, maybe owing to how much other work she had to do and prepare for, but she doesn't seem deterred. She's smiling like usual, having switched to armour for the fight, and will come up to anyone who took part in any of the tournaments.]
That was so cool! How'd you get that strong? I bet you could win next year!
[She sincerely supports everyone. Everyone.]
[3) blackout]
[Rinku looks around, holding up her complimentary name-displaying penlight and the two normal ones she brought from home; she'd set them all to deep blue for Evangeline during the tournament, but she turns them to her own bright orange to light the area better.]
Aww, the power went out... Is everyone okay? No one got hurt?
[4) shopping]
[One more costume change later, Rinku is walking through the marketplace with her Pokémon perched on her shoulders. She's carrying shopping bags and sparkling happily.]
You can each get one thing, okay?
[Mecchan warbles, regarding the magic art supplies with awe. Hina flies off her shoulder and squeaks at everything curiously.
Ribku spots the nearest person and waves while her babies are busy choosing their souvenirs.]

katsuki bakugo // my hero academia // winter
[Today was finally the day. Weeks had been spent on the floor of his or Shoto's bedroom, writing and perfecting the three songs that the boys planned on performing. Weeks and long, tiring days. Katsuki was extremely proud with what they had finished, and couldn't wait to show off. But he was also very nervous at the same time. He's performed with a band before, back home. But he was in the back of the stage playing the drums. Able to be in his own little world and not have to focus so much on the crowd. This time, he was the frontman. Center stage and singing in front of both strangers and new friends alike.
It was a new experience for Katsuki, and his heart reminded him of that by beating so loudly in his ears all through the night and the next morning. He barely got a wink of sleep thanks to it, but he still felt full of energy and excitement when it was time for him to wake up for the day and get ready.
Katsuki and Shoto arrive to the festival early, to be completely sure they're ready and prepared before the show. Katsuki is in a custom version of his Hero Costume to perform in, using a long cape to hide his lame arm while he performs and the two of them have brought their own equipment and pyrotechnics. Along with a large sign that reads THERMAL SHOCK!, the band's name.
Their set is around the middle of the day, and when it's their turn they both eagerly take to the stage. Katsuki can't play drums live this time, so he prepared something else instead. With the help of Rinku, he's been learning how to use DJ equipment and he's using it to help provide backup to Shoto's guitar. There's pre-recorded drum tracks to go with each song that Katsuki made himself, and recorded harmonies for the guitar along with other miscellaneous guitar solos or little melodies or harmonies that Katsuki sings. Katsuki uses his left hand to start and stop each track with perfect timing, making a seamless performance from the two.
The two have three songs that they perform, and their style is very much Rock and Edge. (Their music sounds similar to the song linked, Katsuki's vocals just a little bit deeper and a heavier growl.) The first is an intense song about fighting in a war with lyrics asking the listener to join in. The second is a somber song about fighting inner demons and bettering oneself. And the last is the closest thing to a love song you'll ever hear Katsuki sing-- a song about trusting someone enough to fight with them on the battlefield.
Katsuki is passionate and performs with no fear, as Shoto plays his shining white guitar with a stoic expression on his face and expert skills. And as the last song is performed, the homemade pyrotechnics go off. Little timed bombs filled with Katsuki's explosive sweat, that burst in the timing of the last chorus. Blowing off skull-sized explosions behind the two, that are safe and controlled.
Once their set is over, the two leave the stage and Katsuki breaks away from Shoto for a little bit so he can get himself a drink for his now sore throat. He'll get a cola from the Otters, and find a quiet place to sit and watch the rest of the performances. The perfect chance for someone to either praise him or shit on him for his band's show--]
ii. in the darkness
[Katsuki is extremely annoyed when the power goes out, both on Friday and even more now on Saturday. He was in the middle of looking around the stalls at the Artist Alley, and now he can't see anything?? He has his light stick, which he'll turn on and it lights up with "Shoto Todoroki" written. Of course he was using it to cheer his friend on... even though he lost pretty damn early on. What a shame, honestly. But Katsuki doesn't have time to mope about Shoto's loss.]
Did they forget to pay the damn power bill or somethin'? This is the second time it went out already!
[He complains to the nearest person, an annoyed pout on his face though it might be hard to see in the dark.]
iii. cleanup time
[Being a Hero means you got to help even with the stuff you don't particularly like, and this includes cleaning up after a festival. Katsuki is back on Monday in a much less flashy outfit, picking up where he can and using little explosions to help break down displays. He's complained in the past about his Quirk being used in such a way, but that was months and months ago. He's much better at just doing whatever he can, wherever he can.]
Oi! Pick that up! Don't just walk by a piece of trash like that?!
[Which also means bossing people around who are also there to help. He'll act like the leader of the whole operation by constantly nagging and ordering everyone else around.... whoops!]

And then she sees him, and her chest clenches down.
It takes the full set before she's certain of it. When did he get back, and why didn't he contact her? (But then, she knows. Her biggest fear, turned on its head.)
She rushes to catch up with him shortly after he gets off stage.
"Katsuki?" she asks, hope both shining and dying in her voice. She offers a slight smile that she knows, she knows will quickly fade because no doubt she wouldn't have had to run into him at a random festival if he was still her little brother.

[Evangeline is in the first round of the Ultima Tournament facing against MK. She's clearly taking it extremely seriously, showing up to fight him in a different EGO suit than her usual. Her scythe is as sharp as ever.
The results... well, MK is a stone monkey with basically divine powers, and Evangeline is a human being. So MK wins, but she damn well makes him work for it.
She can be found after her loss drinking a healing potion and a bottle of water.]
It's disappointing, but I knew going in that MK was stronger than me. I'm proud of it being that close.

Nakamori "Choco Korone" Aoko | DCMK (CRAU) | Summer
[ Korone's set up a heckin' nice wooden stall and seating area. It's a bit away from the main hustle and bustle but still has a great view — perfect for anyone who wants to take a break without missing out. Two big, fluffy house cats are snoozing on the roof.
It even has a cute picnic and play area, stocked with toys and games for kids, pokemon, and pets alike. Sumire, Korone's shiny Feebas, can be found in a large inflatable wading pool, dancing along to the musical performances, playing ring toss, and challenging people to games of uno.
You can order sweet, savory, and-or spicy pastries in a wide variety of flavors! Melon pan, mini s'mores pizzas, cookies and cupcakes, filled buns, prosciutto and brie turnovers with hot chili peach jam; the list goes on. For drinks, there's teas and coffees, fresh juices and smoothies, and a selection of hot chocolates. Dark chocolate with spices? Got you covered! Instant? You betcha!
Feeling creative? There's a sugar cookie decorating station fully stocked with everything you might want.
As for the girl herself, she smiles and waves when you approach. ]
✿ Korone's Corner: Table Tennis…? ✿
[ One of the games in the picnic and play area is table tennis!
Sometimes, when it's reasonably quiet, a super adorable, extremely round — positively orb-like! — 3ft ""pigeon"" made entirely of shadow rolls out from under the table and bounces for attention, waving a paddle (also made of shadow) at you. … How is it even holding that thing? It doesn't have hands. ]
This is Shigeon-chan. [ Korone speaks up with a smile, leaning against the bar. ] Wanna try a match? You'll get a free pastry if you win.
✿ Cleaning Up ✿
[ It's been a long, fun-filled weekend. Also: EXHAUSTING.
But Korone's never been one to turn down an opportunity to help. She devotes herself to the task(s) at hand with an enthusiasm that belies how ready she is to tuck herself into a pillowfort to decompress with a book or six, and can be found flitting here, there, and everywhere to lend a hand.
At one point (because as tired as Korone is, an opportunity to practice is an opportunity to practice), she closes her eyes, concentrates real damn hard, and manages to summon a shadow clone: a wingless silhouette of herself made manifest, with eyes that glow blue. The shadow salutes, grinning, and picks up a nearby broom.
... Attempts ... to pick up a nearby broom. On the first try its hand goes through. On the second try both hands go through. On the third try the broom falls over - ]
cleanup
[Rinku sparkles at the shadow clone, despite its. Uh. Difficulties.]
This must be the shadow stuff your dad taught you, right? Do you need help? Wait, I don't actually know how to help. But!

Toshirou Hijikata | Gintama (Prismatica & Isle of Avalon CRAU) | Summer
[Hijikata is excited. The arts festival, especially the tournament, is always a highlight of his year, and he trained insanely hard again to awe the spectators in the arena! He teleports in along with his pokémon, not really caring to take the scenic route, and happily shows them how to use the light stick they received on arrival (the staff was nice enough to give them one too!).]
So whenever I'm on, you set it to this green! Unless you actually root for the other guy or girl, but you wouldn't do that, would you?
[Before the tournament starts, the stage performances open the event! He cheers extra loudly for his loved ones, but still also gets into what everyone else is putting on. They really do have a lot of talent here! If he runs into any performer (
except Edmond, whom he'll attempt to avoid... sorry, fellow cop, it's too soon after Mayogate!) afterwards, he'll compliment them in earnest:]You put on a great show there!
2) Artist Alley & Market
[Hijikata looks at the local handicrafts - he may have no sense for art, but he vaguely knows the tastes of his loved ones, and if something strikes his eyes, he'll buy it for them -, but he's especially curious about what his fellow otherworlders have brought to the table this year. If he arrives at one of their stands, he may ask:]

[Even if it's obvious, the creator always has some more information to share!
Of course, the thing he scrutinises the hardest is his own merchandise. Luckily for the native artists, he's happy with the selection they brought!]
This is so cool! I like how you made the fire holographic! Do I really make this pose, or did you take artistic liberty?
[Since no doujinshi are being sold here, his fans actually have a blast talking to him. He can be almost cute in his excitement... who would have thought? Of course, he's not the only one whose goods are on offer, so maybe someone wants to look for their own alongside him.]
3) Tournaments
[This is what he's been waiting the most for!! On the first day of the tournament, he and his pokémon watch the Jackalope- and Magic Brush cups unfold and cheer for the participants. Anyone he knows may well hear his personalised encouragement (though he'll rally pretty much anyone)!
On the next day(s), of course, things get truly serious for him. While he continues to put his whole heart into cheering on those facing off in the other rounds, it's also time for him to show what he's made of! Whether it's his first round or the final match, he's visibly excited - every opponent will do their best, just like him, so he can't afford to be inattentive for even a moment! He brightly grins at whoever he's facing.]
Let's make this memorable, shall we?
[Eventually, at the end of all tournaments, he receives two gold- and a silver medal. He's absolutely elated and radiating joy. He'll give solid handshakes or even hugs to any fellow combatant who'll allow it, thank them for the challenge and (if applicable) admit that they really gave him a run for his money, and try to cheer up anyone who may be feeling a little crushed by their low placement - he's been there, more or less! Of course, he'll also happily accept congratulations from the audience.]
I don't think I ever won a tournament before, neither here nor on Avalon! I always give it my all, but we just have such strong and capable people everywhere!
4) Some Unwelcome Surprises
[When the power unexpectedly goes out, Hijikata is alert. He's always prepared for the worst - is there going to be an attack from "the" people? The light stick poking out of his pocket is still on, so depending on which contest last happened, it's obvious whom he was rooting for! Granted, that's the farthest thing on his mind right now.]
Be ready to evacuate the civilians if necessary.
[He really hopes that it's just a regular outage. An attack on the crowded stadium would be disastrous.]
5) Final Party & Cleanup
[As the festival ends and silent fireworks colour the sky, Hijikata knows that he'll remember these happy moments forever. Flanked by his pokémon, which are enjoying their final snack treats, he exhales.]
On the one hand, it'd be good if we got on with the destruction of the Darkness already, but on the other hand, I kind of wish that days like this would never end.

II. Backstage
[It's almost time for his group's performance. He's been a bit nervous about performing with two people he never worked closely with before, but by this point he's relatively confident that the show will go well.]
Alright~ We've done all we can to prepare. The best thing to do now is have fun~
III. In the Audience
[After the play, he went to get some refreshments, and then join the audience to watch some more of the performances.]
There are quite a few talented acts up there this year as well, aren't there~?
IV. Tournament
[He was knocked out in the first round, which wasn't surprising, really. What's more surprising is that he's sticking around to watch the other matches. He's never really been into this stuff.]
So you can use powers in that way too, huh? Perhaps there is more to learn by fighting...
[He doesn't sound happy about that statement.]
V. Final Party
[Rui watches the fireworks, ready for a bit of a break from all his running around this year. Still, his brain is whirring as he watches the show.]
I'd love to see how the soundless fireworks are made.
VI. Clean Up
[Rui's not a bit fan of cleaning, but he tells himself that this is part of the show too. And as such, he is making a big production out of putting away the cords and electronics. He'll put on even more of a show if he notices anyone watching.]

[Xinyan is riding her post performance high as she wanders around the venue. She's sticking close enough to the stage to hear the other performances.]
Awe yeah! This place is rockin' this year! Everyone's goin' all out! Makes me wanna go back up there an' play some more! Though...I guess the folks waitin' their turn wouldn' be too happy 'bout that...
II. Pre Tournament
[Xinyan is getting ready by making sure both her guitar and her claymore were in tip top shape. Soft strumming can be heard throughout the waiting area as she checks that her guitar's in tune still.]
I ain't disturbin' ya, am I?
III. Post Tournament
[Xinyan is looking for specifically both Shoto and Jinwoo. They were the two people she fought with directly, after all.]
There ya are! I was lookin' all over for ya! You were a seriously tough opponent, an' I was wonderin' if ya wanted to go grab a bite together? Festival food is great!
VI. Final Party
[Xinyan is uncharacteristically calm as she watches the fireworks. Eventually, she speaks up.]
Man, this festival was amazin'.
V. Clean Up
[Xinyan is back to her normal high energy as she helps move boxes.]
Hey! D'ya know where the extra lightsticks go?

So when he gets the chance, he'll approach her.]

[Tau spends most of the Festival manning her art booth. She had buried herself in painting her surrealist pieces after her brother left, and now she should probably sell some of them before she gets over run. She'll approach anyone who lingers at her booth with an attempt to smile.]
Ah...Do you...like that one? I worked hard on it...
II. Art Tournament
[Tau, as always, is hesitant to join any competition. She doesn't like the way she is when she competes. But since it was a nonviolent art tournament she was entering, it may be okay. The painting she ends up making for it was a pastel spring scene with Rabbits playing tag through the air. Rainbow streaks followed them as they hopped around a blue moon.]
III. Celebration
[Tau won. She's surprised at the attention and applause focused on her, though a part of her brain tells her that winning was the only acceptable outcome anyway. She tries hard to push those kinds of thoughts back as she accepts her prize.]
I am...glad...to have won...A-and to have uhm seen everyone else's art too, of course.
[That last bit was an after thought tacked on quickly.]
VI. Celebration pt 2 (For Mary)
[As the crowd started dispersing, Tau would look for Mary. They were top two! Tau was happy her friend did so well as well.]

VI. Final Party
[Instead of playing with the sparklers, Tau is playing with her prize. She's doodling little stars to float around her. She has a genuine smile on her face, a rare sight for any one who knows her.]
This is...a very good day...Do you...think so too?

[Rather than clean up, Tau fell asleep. She's kind of in the way now, oops.]

Xerxes Break | Pandora Hearts | Winter
[Festivals were barely something Break indulged in before he lost his sight, but navigating one completely blind was not something he enjoys, so he spends his time before the tournament where all the competitors were preparing for their tournaments. He has on his clown smile, and resists the urge to cause trouble.]

II. Post Tournament
[Now that he lost so early on, he's in an even worse mood. He wants to hit someone, but that would probably get him kicked out. Not being able to hear, and the crowd being as it was, he ended up bumping into someone.]

III. Festival Food
[He had promised Shannon, his Mime Jr, a taste of festival food earlier, so now he's navigating through the booths with the baby Pokemon on his shoulder, excitedly giving him directions.]
At least the food here is good, hm?

Sonic (Wachowski) the Hedgehog | Sonic (Live Action) | Winter | OTA
Sonic has never been to a concert before. Or, well, musical festival? Any kind of live musical performance. Its all new and exciting and he's absolutely enjoying himself on the dance floor.
Its fine that he's shorter than most, he's fast enough to get out of the way without losing his groove.
Tournaments
Sonic took part in the Jackalope Cup and despite an early lead, a very far lead at that, some things....happened and he would end up at the finish line quite a while after everyone else. But that was fine. Nothing to worry about there.
He is still ready to show his support for his friends in the other tournaments. Complete with moving to different parts of the stands to try and start chanting on their names and pass out more glowsticks with their names.
Power Outage
....listen, there was a hot second he was worried that he caused the outage, having to check himself for any sparking. He's mostly sure it isn't him.
He knows there isn't much for power outages other than letting people do their thing, but he's also got a lot of glowsticks. He's got one for Evangeline, Rinku, and a few for Shadow. (He thinks Maria would want one and maybe others in Hedgehaus, okay.)
Fireworks
...you know, its kind of disappointing the fireworks are quiet. The boom is fun!
But the sight is still cool.
Though at this point, he's running low on his social battery. He's still not used to CROWDS. So he's found a more isolated part of the area to sit, somewhere out of the way to take in the sights. Though sitting with one other person would probably be okay.
Jackalope Shenanigan - Locked to Shadow
Besides, he knows how to hold back if he's dominating TOO much and hey! Turning into other animals DID slow him down, that was a whole other configurations of limbs and aerodynamics to figure out, so it wouldn't be too disheartening for others, he's sure.
He had started with a commanding lead, dashing along as a Reindeer because hey, its a WHOLE NEW ANGLE to view the world at speed. Also the leaping was fun. He got so high even without momentum tricks!
But it was with those leaps that something catches his eye, at a distance off the main track.
...and it really doesn't matter how fast one is if one has the attention span of a dog in a squirrel park.
A regular the tortoise and the hare moment.
But Sonic doesn't know this area, doesn't know this route, and he doesn't know how rare those things are and he absolutely cannot lose it.
He scans the area and-

He diverts his path to move towards Shadow directly. "Shadow! Shadowshadowshadow! You have to come with me!"

megumi aikawa ⚡ heaven burns red ⚡ summer
[Megumi's not the kind of girl to perform--in fact, she didn't get her guitar until after sign ups were all well and done. Besides, it isn't the same if she's just playing by herself.
But it's been a good couple of months since she's picked up the guitar, so she might as well practice. And what better time to perform than during the arts festival?
She's no Kayamori Ruka, but people might find her playing a couple of different songs on the guitar; it's not on a fancy, grand stage, just on an idle corner, but it's audible enough for people to actually hear--enough that it's drawn a bit of a crowd to her.
Sure, she isn't singing, but perhaps she could be convinced...?]
SOCIALIZATION II: fighting tournaments
[While normally, tournaments wouldn't be her thing, she decides to enter two of them to see where her skills lie. She's dressed much more casually for the whole ordeal, not wanting to use her uniform's deflector for this sort of thing.
It's only when everything done and over with that she's breaking a little bit of a sweat, wiping her brow a little.]
That really was hard. Gonna needta grab somethin' ta drink after this.
