Companion Creature Gathering

WHO: Byakuya Twogami and OPEN
WHAT: Twogami's organised a gathering for the influx of unwitting new Pokémon parents (and some more experienced ones) to network and gather information.
WHEN: Early April
WHERE: Amberfall cafe event space
WARNINGS: Mostly cute things but possibly trauma in Twogami's TL



After posting to the network about his plans to host a gathering for everyone who'd suddenly been gifted with Pokémon eggs. That way, at least they could exchange some sort of information- and let their new companions make some friends and training buddies!

...and so, despite the restlessness in his mind, he grit his teeth and set about organising another party.

Twogami had carefully selected the back rooms of a stylish cafe in Amberfall for the event, with elegant curtains framing wide glass doors that opened up onto an outdoor seating area.

The larger of the rooms sported a wooden floor - easy for clean up, and well-maintained - and it was here that he had seen to the catering, with tables against two of the walls containing a multitude of buffet-style foods and drinks. Beside that, a wide selection of Pokémon and pet treats on a lower table, that's easier for the little ones to get to. There's plenty of places about the room to sit, eat and talk, with the tables just spread out enough for Pokémon to go running around.

The adjacent room has been set out as something of a quiet space, for those who might find themselves a little overwhelmed by the activities. There's beanbags, blankets and other soft furnishings, along with a table of information; Twogami had collected plenty of information about the new creatures they've found- some in physical books, others copies of his own notes that have been printed and set into ring-binders for anyone to take home with them.

The outside area was primarily set out for their new companion creatures to play and run around, with different types of toys and games to keep them amused- including a spacious inflatable pool and a marked off area for them to test out their battle abilities, should they choose!

Toshirou Hijikata (Gintama) & Hinobuta + Maken

[Hijikata can't help but feel like a veteran pokémon trainer as he arrives with his fully evolved Emboar and Aegislash flanking him, each as tall as a man and several times heavier.]

Remember to play nice with all the little ones, guys! If they want to grow stronger, teach them what you know!

[As long as it's within their type remit, that is. Frankly, both large pokémon are very excited to be here - despite their intimidating appearance, they're still very young, merely having been evolved at breakneck speed (which, in fairness, they also take pride in - they're full-fledged partners to their trainer!). Chances are either of them will approach your little pokémon to play... how intimidated will it be?]

[Mecchan hides from lots of things, but these are his friends! He waves happily and scrambles over from where he and Hina were playing with blocks. Hina, for her part, starts to gnaw on the block tower.

Rinku comes up over, waving and smiling.]

I bet they'll have a lot of fun, Hijikata-san. Even Mecchan is making new friends!

Is he, now? He's getting bolder! That's good.

[He looks satisfied.]

He's been posting on the network, hasn't he? I still can't believe how smart he is. I tried to teach my two to read, and so far it's been going well - they can tell A, B, and C apart -, but I'll be honest with you, I don't know if I'm going to have the patience to keep up with it.

Do you read to them? That's how Mecchan got to learning. I tried teaching Hina-chan Braille since she doesn't have eyes, but she thought the book was for chewing.

[Rinku rubs the back of her head.]

And yeah, sometimes I find him using my phone or computer. When he was shedding, he texted a whole conversation with Neechan.

Braille? That's impressive, too!

[Her claws are so tiny! How does she manage to read it?]

I'm not sure if I even want my two to get to the point where they'll go posting online.

[He looks at them running around playing... who knows what goes on in their heads?]

[Rinku giggles. Mecchan runs over to join his large friends to play with the toys.]

I wonder what they'd talk about? Probably mostly quests and training, right? They sure like those.

They do! I take them along almost all the time now, just not on the most dangerous quests.

[That absolutely includes anything bone-sucker-related, as far as Hinobuta is concerned.]

Come to think... we've yet to find out what happens to pokémon if they die, huh?

[He assumes that they'll die for good, but who's to say they won't just remanifest in ther pokéball or something?]

Yeah... I assume they'd die like anyone else. I haven't seen any in the flower yard.

[She looks sadly at them all playing.]

But I hope we don't have to find out for a long time. They should get to be happy doing what they want to do.

Absolutely. Come to think, I've never looked into their life spans.

[He frowns. Will it be comparable to similar regular animals? Will Maken live virtually forever?]

That information doesn't seem to be included in the Pokédex, so we'd have to ask one of our experts.

Yeah... I'm really glad they're here, though. They're as much family as Neechan or Mary-chan, that's what I think.

I've got to agree. Our house ended up a lot fuller than expected, but... it's nice.

[3 large pokémon aren't the same as 300 noisy men, but it still feels a little more like home! He smiles as he watches Hinobuta show off its muscles to Mecchan and a few other small pokémon while Maken, always more reserved, hovers in the background. Maybe the Aegislash will find some new chilled-out friends here! Hijikata intends to just let them run free until they want to go home.]

I hardly know what I'll do when it's time to go home. I can't take them with me; the copyright would get us in serious trouble.

[Mecchan sparkles and tries to flex. He isn't doing a very good job.]

Huh... maybe if they just hid in the background while an episode was going on? Like under a box or something.

I'm not sure how long that'd work out. Our mascot characters might even feel threatened by them and rat them out.

[The thought is stressing him out enough to light up a cigarette with a snap of his fingers.]

Maybe if we dyed or pained them... that might fall under parody rights.

That gets complicated from place to place too, doesn't it? Like that banned episode of Osomatsu-san 'cause Sunrise got mad at the Love Live parody. I think it was that, I dunno. Muni-chan said that was probably it 'cause stuff made to sell music gets really protective.

[If she had a little more fourth-wall knowledge, the fact that her own game provided the actual unaltered Love Live songs instead of remix covers from one of the units would not be lost on her. Alas.]

She knows that kinda stuff, it just makes my head spin.

[He reaches out and pats her head.]

Don't fret about it, Rinku-chan. Just try to not bring up any other IPs outside of contractual permissions, and you'll be fine.

[He says that as though it's not terribly easy to get things mixed up, such as the exact scope of the permissible material or the time frame during which is may be used!]

[Rinku laughs a little and butts her little horn-things into his hand.]

I dunno how all that works, so maybe that means I'd just naturally follow the rules anyway and no one has to worry.

[How is she so cute?! Who else would even have thought of this gimmick - and she didn't even do it for the merchandise, but just because she enjoys being a giraffegirl!]

[Is it? Is it really, Hijikata? But honestly, he just trusts that she's got this. She has that kind of luck!]

Yeah! Thanks, Hijikata-san! You always know this kinda stuff. Maybe because nobody else here gets it.

[He grins and offers his hand for a high-five. Part of him wants to tell Rinku that Eva, too, knows about the 4th wall, but there are such complicated caveats to that - only her split personality / childhood self does, so one can only bring it up when circumstances make her manifest - that he decides against it.]

Let's enjoy our pokémon while we can, and beyond if possible!

[Rinku jumps to make the high five. She smiles and watches their companions play.]

I wanna stay here just as much as I wanna go home. But once they get the back-and-forth travel working, no one's ever gonna have to choose.

[Maken hovers away upon noticing Eren's Yamask to inspect the fellow ghost pokémon while Hinobuta gives Mecchan and the other little ones flexing tips to look more intimidating.]

That's right. My schedule will be stupidly full hopping between three worlds, but with the time difference always cancelling out, it's really a way to extend our life span enough to fit everything in.

[How it'll psychologically impact them to fit way more time and experiences than normal into a human life remains to be seen, but he's not too worried about that.]

[ The chespin hiding behind Daigo's leg is very intimidated, actually. But Daigo himself is casual, hands tucked in his pockets. ]

Hey, Dojima-san. Long time no see. All's well on my end - the SPOON's established, and we've already cleared out some shitty corners of town. Maybe you noticed! I don't think we picked up any of your kids, though. We go after the irredeemables!

[Leave it to him to immediately prattle on about his ghost patrol without even asking how Daigo's holding up... his pokémon, though, curiously move in on the shy little Chespin, and that does pull his attention over to the small companion creature.]

Oh, hey! Who's this little guy?

Daifuku right now 😲

Hijikata. So these are your companions, are they?

[Certainly, they were impressive! Just from looking, their power was clear enough- and judging from the excited squeaks from Byakuya's Mimikyu, Daifuku, the little one was very impressed! Not that it was easy to tell, given the expression of it's disguise never changed.]

It seems we've got some catching up to do.
