( From what Ko's seen of Hijikata, he's pretty dedicated to his job. That's respectable.

Let me escort you to where you need to be first. This potion isn't foolproof - you may be safe from physical harm, but not from spells or status effects or the Nightshade's mind control.

[Right as he's about to lead Ko out of the area, they find themselves getting shot at. While Ko's glittering shield absorbs any damage that might get past Hijikata, who shields him immediately, he probably stills gets a serious fright, and he may feel the impact to some degree. Hijikata's Aura likewise handles the damage for him, showing up as a green ripple of energy.

Spotting the shooters after illuminating the darkness with a bright green fire salve, he telekinetically rips their weapons out of their hands, then raises the assassins themselves into the air, making them struggle for purchase.]
