🌸 sunshine, she's here, you can take a break

WHAT: A get-to-know-you-together!

[ The past week, Ayaka and Aether made an announcement on the network, inviting everyone interested to make friends and meet new people to the shinrin-yoku teahouse the following weekend. Well, this is it! The time has come! ]

Welcome
🌸 shinrin-yoku seems like a simple tea house upon entering, with a large wooden sliding door that's already opened for guests to enter.

Ayaka will be the one to personally greet her guests, offering three possible areas for seating– the traditional Inazuman set up, the space for where you can let your legs down and not kneel while seated, or outside in the gardens. Familiar faces may be abound, and guests may like to walk around and see the interior, perhaps even say hello to the manager who is walking around and sniffing people here and there.

For future endeavours, Ayaka informs guests that they may use the shinrin-yoku for business gatherings and meetings. Members of Ayato's committee are more than welcome to use the shinrin-yoku, and may even become a place for exchanging information and the like. The tea house promises to be a safe place to all.

And for this particular gathering, Ayaka is not only serving tea, but also sake. It never hurts to make things more fun!

Konpeito, Truth, or Dare
🌸 All guests, upon entering, will be given a small clear glass container. They will also be presented with a giant bowl containing konpeito. They must take at least one, and as many as they could possibly want, and put it inside their own container. They are told not to eat any for now, but no one's really stopping them from doing so!

At some point during the occasion, a game is announced. Everyone is told to check their konpeito and count how many they have! Now, they must pick a partner and play a couple of rounds of truth or dare with them. Every time they get a turn, whether they pick truth or dare, they can eat a piece of candy! ~~Or eat three or five at the same time~~ Once they've had five rounds, though, then they have to choose another partner and start over until they've finished their konpeito bowls.

There is an added rule to the konpeitos, but not necessarily required to be followed! A white konpeito must have a truth or dare related to family, green for a "favourite", yellow for love or sex, orange for childhood or childlike-ness, and pink for "hate".

Ringo (Ayaka's Eevee) and Taroumaru will be watching people and make sure they aren't cheating! Though sometimes, they may not be looking, and can even be bribed with snacks. Participants who can finish their konpeito in an hour (which we'll conveniently handwave) will receive a box of sakura mochi to take home.

Introduction Bingo
🌸 Guests are given bingo cards to fill up at some point during the afternoon! Pens are also provided, or if they have their own, then that's cool!

Participants may put someone's name twice on any of the squares, but more than that, and it won't count. The objective is to get a blackout by filling out names of people who fit the description! How one does this is completely up to them. They could even slip it into their conversations during the truth or dare games, or just randomly walk up to people and ask them things.

Two Twists and a Lie
🌸 A card is given to participants for them to write two truths and one lie on it, then they have to pin or stick it to the back of their clothing. When someone wants to play, they must first challenge you to a game of janken. If you win, you get to turn the game around and guess which is the lie on their card. If they win, then they're entitled to one guess! If they get it wrong, you have to play janken again.

So, what happens when the person gets it right? The person can now make a rule that the other person has to follow. Whether it means they have to call you "Master", end all their sentences with "yes, please", or some other rule that you can think of! And in case you can't think of anything, there's a box nearby with cute props that you can make the loser wear: cat ears, a cat tail, bunny ears, a bunny tail, a raccoon kigurumi, and some goofy glasses.

[Hearing Natsuno's enthusiastic declaration, Hijikata suddenly sees a loophole to get out of this stressful-ass game.]

I dare you to eat all of my konpeito.

[Wait, though--]

Or won't I be eligible for the mochi if I don't eat it all myself?

[The konpeito was meant for Shoto, and now that he has to eat it he wanted to win the mochi for him instead!]

[ ... Huh. ]

I dunno! But it doesn't look like anyone's watching. [ Which she confirms - falsely, because she's not taking Ringo or Taroumaru into consideration here - with a look around. ] I won't tell if you won't.

[He hands the konpeito over - and almost immediately the two fluffy referees come running, barking and "vee"-ing respectively.]

Ah-- okay, alright, I get it! Let me have it back, Natsuno-chan!

[The dog and pokémon simmer down once he takes his candy back... but instead of leaving, they sit and watch the two humans. Great, apparently they don't trust me to not cheat again!]

In this case, I dare you to... let's see... I dare you to imitate a duck!

[ Okay, but in their defense, Hijikata probably would cheat again given the opportunity... ]

Alright! Sounds easy enough. [ She folds her arms to resemble little wings and-- well, not chirps, because that's the wrong verb here, but exclaims: ] Quack!

[ Nailed it. ]

[He would ~~and he will~~. That duck imitation, though... cute! He cracks a smile.]

Well done! I reckon it's your turn to give me a dare now.

[He gave you the most milquetoast dare, Natsuno, so you go easy on him too!]

Okay, let's see... [ There's so many options! But in the spirit of acting and being goofy: ] In that case, I'm gonna dare you to act like a robot! Quack!

Alright.

[He starts moving in place with janky, choppy motions, keeping his arms and hands at stiff angles as he imitates a robotic voice.]

I am Hi-ji-ka-ta. I am here to help you re-mem-ber the traf-fic rules. Re-mem-ber to al-ways stop at a red light!

[Apparently he's a traffic robot, specifically...]

Whoa! That's a good impression, Hijikata-san! [ Traffic robot? Sounds completely legit tbh. ] What're the other rules?

[ ... this truth or dare is about to take a turn, isn't it ]

We get to eat a konpeito for each turn.

[He pops one into his mouth for completing his dare!]

And we're only allowed five turns each before we have to change partners, I think.

[Wasn't there something about the konpeito colours..? No, surely they can disregard that.]

[ Don't worry, she's not paying any attention to the colors! (and nearly every road leads back to sci-fi with her anyway...) ]

Then let's go all five rounds! That way, you'll get to eat more konpeito. [ Ignoring the fact that if he weren't her game partner, he'd be playing with someone else and still eating candy. It's fine. ] This time, ask me a question!

[He'll rather play with Natsuno; she evidently won't bully him!! He briefly thinks about a question. He actually is curious about some things...]

How'd you become a mecha pilot?

[ - oh. It's not a surprising question, all things considered. In fact, it was bound to come up eventually.

But that doesn't mean she's put any thought into how she'd answer. ]

Well, you see... how do I put this...? [ ~~The eternal question with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.~~ ] One day, I met an alien named BJ, and he asked me to help him find Sentinel no. 17! Or, at least, I thought he was an alien... turns out he was just an AI in a scout drone. But finding the Sentinel was serious business! The fate of humanity depended on it!

[ A pause, as she's realizing for the first time that - ] Actually, now that I think about it... I don't even know who he is. [ that's concerning, natsuno???? ]

Anyways! [ NATSUNO????????? ] We ended up traveling through time to different eras looking for it, until we realized it was actually orbiting the planet! After that, it was just a matter of summoning it down on Earth.

Then, BJ transferred the Sentinel to me. [ She touches her cheek idly - the same cheek Hijikata saw her swipe her hand across and summon her robot all those months ago. ] He said he couldn't pilot the Sentinel anymore, since Miura-kun was using his ID. So I joined the fight in his stead! [ Quite literally in his stead, since he uhhhhh shut down afterwards. But it's fine! She has him here, so obviously he's better now?? ]

[Hijikata takes the start of Natsuno's story in stride - meeting an alien or an AI wouldn't be out of the ordinary on his homeworld, and they've had to save humanity (or at least their homeland) a few times by now, too.

He starts frowning when she realises that she doesn't know who BJ really is, though, and the frown only steepens as she continues. Why was this kid roped into such involved time travel business?! Was BJ acting on his own as a rogue AI, or is someone pulling the strings in the background? And someone else stole(?) his mecha..?!]

Natsuno-chan, I see a few problems here! First of all, what happened to school? Did you get back to the right point in time after all that time travel? Also how'd Miura-kun get his hands on BJ's ID?! Is there anyone organising all of this?

[If the fate of humanity is at stake, he'd hope that there'd at least be an actual organisation helming the resistance... but should he really uphold any confidence when the mecha pilot recruitment process is this ramshackle?]

Hey! I'll have you know, I went to school most days! Obviously I couldn't when I got stuck in 2025, but otherwise my attendance was perfect. I just skipped track practice. [ That's... only marginally better... ] And it was BJ using Miura-kun's ID! Since Miura-kun activated his own Sentinel, BJ couldn't use it anymore.

[ Are these answers to most of his questions? Technically. Are they good answers? Debatable. ]

[Because kids need an education!! (Says the man who'll happily recruit teenage boys to make swordsmen out of them...) He seems satisfied with Natsuno's school attendance, at least.]

Alright, I'll take that. I'm getting confused about those IDs, though. If it was Miura-kun's all along, then how could BJ use it before Miura-kun activated his Sentinel?

[He thought the ID came with the activation! But then again what does he know about being a Sentinel pilot?]

[ ............................ wait a second. ]

You know, I don't actually know. Everything happened so fast, it was hard enough keeping my head on straight! [ Especially after BJ died - or, well, as much as an AI can die. It took her a bit to recover from that. ] Maybe he could hack into the Sentinel somehow, because he's an AI!

[ come on, natsuno. come on. you're getting so close ]

You should try to get the answers to these questions once you return home.

[Unless there's a chance to get them here already... if he knew that she has BJ with her, he'd urge her to question him!]
