WHAT: De-stonification
WHEN: Backdated to the 16th of June
WHERE: Autumn Segment, close to the Abandoned Castle
WARNINGS: some angst probably, because that's how this gremlin rolls

[Closed to Lumine]
[Wanderer hasn't been seen for quite a while now and it could be that he is just wandering around, solving some quests. Or just being grumpy somewhere on his own, doing his best to properly process the fact that his memories are some sort of public property now. Not that he is ashamed of his sins, his sins are his sins and if people want to punish him for those sins, he'll welcome them gladly.

But instead of all of that he has lost his energy somewhere close to the abandoned castle in the autumn section and somewhere along the way he turned to stone.]

[He hasn't given up. Not in the least. But he still thinks bonds and friendships are not meant for him.

When she tweaks his nose he frowns a tired frown.]

I am not some child...

[Still, he does behave like one at times.]

Tch. [When he reaches out he takes a hold of her wrist in the most awkward attempt to grab her hand.] Just hold my hand until I can stand again.

[ She's going to do him one better than that. She wraps her free arm around his shoulder and pulls him. ]

Children are more obedient. What were you hoping to accomplish?

Don't make it sound more worse than it is...

[Slowly he rises back onto his feet, placing his free hand on her shoulder for more support. His body feels heavy and very unwilling to move.]

...I miscalculated...that's all.

[He stabilizes himself and finally manages to look Lumine in the eye a little.]

You know death is a joke here, not?

[ She rises to her feet and her expression grows cold and narrow. ]

You think that just because you come back, death is a 'joke?'

[He sees the look on her face change and slowly moves back a little, leaning against the stone wall behind him, hands gripping at the stones instead of Lumine.]

Tch... Normally I am quite tolerant towards your need to prove me wrong all the time. [He's tired and his joints aren't handling his weight well.] There even are moments where you might be right.

[He reaches out again, offering her his hand for her to hold.]

Worry not, as soon as I have regained my energy...it would be my pleasure to discuss the matter of death in this world a bit more.

[ She clicks her tongue and moves forward, stubbornly taking his hand again. ]

You're not going to regain your energy if you don't maintain contact.

[Wanderer curls his fingers around her hand and holds on tightly. It would be nice to be able to stand eventually and it would be even nicer if his joints would stop being this stiff.]

I know. [He rolls his eyes.] I know all of this. [Then he produces a sighing sound.]

Heh. Here you are, saving me once again.

[ She could say something sassy like 'If you hate it so much, why do you keep putting yourself in situations that you need me to save you from?', but she holds it in. Even for her, that's too rude. Instead, with a gentler tone, ]

It could be worse, you know.

[ she pauses, and then in an attempt to crack a joke, ]

It could be Tartaglia.

[And he would reply with 'I do not ask to be saved, it is your choice that you do so.' and probably shrug afterwards.

The mention of his former fellow Harbinger makes him chuckle a little.]

Heh. Then I'd still be a chunk of rock. [He doesn't have any trust in Childe's intelligence. Or strength. Or anything, really.] Or that cunning little vermin who leads the Kamisato clan.

[Who would probably save him and be annoying about it until forever. He'll probably rub it in at many occasions and do his absolute best to get on Wanderers nerves.]

Oh, you wouldn't be a chunk of rock anymore I'm sure. But you also wouldn't be able to get rid of him.

[ She pauses. ]

Have you spoken with him much at all...?

[ She doesn't think that Childe and the Wanderer were ever friends, not even when he was still known as 'Scaramouche.' But they were once affiliates in the same organization serving the same goddess. It wouldn't be that unusual if they'd been in contact--if this Childe still remembered him. ]

[Well, she wasn't wrong there either. Childe seems to be...surprisingly unlike the other Harbingers. Perhaps even more than he himself used to think.]

Perhaps. If so, I would not hear the end of it.

[After that he nods shortly.]

He remembers me. Who I used to be, that is. Every time we spar he thinks he is fighting against Scaramouche. Tsk. Such an idiot. [But still he smiles, because it amuses him more than it bothers him.] Speaking of idiots. Why did you spend all that time looking for me?

[ Why...? ]

It'd be pretty shitty of me to just leave you out here as a lump of rock, wouldn't it?

I probably would not have been able to stop you from the beginning. Yet, I rather not want to owe you more than I already do.

[Sorry Lumine, he's very adamant about that.]

No one's keeping score here but you, you know that, right?

[Oh, he knows, and he also knows its important to him that he does.]

[Maybe one day he is able to forgive himself. But this day is not that day.]

Heh, and who knows, I might have been quite a good lump of rock.

If you want to become a rock so badly, I'll bring you back home after you turn next time and make you into a fountain.

[ Is she joking? She's probably joking. At least 70% ]

Very well. But only if you carry me on your back all the way to the place you stay.

[Wanderer chuckles, very amused with himself right now.]

I will assure you that I will choose to turn into a rock in a difficult place. Otherwise it would be too easy. I do want to make you suffer a little bit. Old habits.

Aha, but you'll be a rock. You won't know or be able to do anything about it if I were to, say, kick and roll you down the hills, or drag you with a donkey.

Now that would be lazy. Don't tell me that Buer's first sage is actually a lazy idiot who is unable to properly carry a larger rock.

[The look on his face changes into a mock sad one.]

Rocks can break, you know.

My motto has always been work smarter, not harder.

[ Not entirely true. But also not entirely a lie. ]

And that's fine. I wouldn't have pegged a stubborn ass such as yourself as becoming weak enough rock to break, but on the off chance you do, I happen to be good friends with the God of Geo. I'm sure he could repair you even if I roughed you up some. He might even be able to give you a few extra inches if you'd like!

Is it now?

[He laughs softly, thoroughly amused by Lumine's words. There are smarter ways to find your brother, instead of helping some idiot with a letter they can deliver by themselves. Every day.]

Heh. As you may know, I am not a big fan of archons. [Wanderer strokes his chin and glances at Lumine as he does so.] Hmmm...I am not sure if that is the best example of working smarter.

[The stiffness has disappeared from his legs and his energy is also returning.]

I wonder. Do you count my creator also as a friend?

[ Unfortunately, Aether wants her to do more than just find him, and Teyvat is determined to make her work both harder and smarter. ]

Not every archon is bad. You get along with Nahida, don't you?

[ She pauses as she considers his question. How does she quantify her relationship to Ei? ]

I don't know that I'd say we're friends. We're not enemies anymore, though. I've spent some time with her since our fight. She's... a very complicated person. Does it bother you?

[Oh, he does. And somewhere inside he even cares somewhat.]

We have an agreement, yes. [That, and she has sent him to the Akademiya. And, at times, the words she says make sense and tend to calm him down a little.]

No.

[Wanderer shakes his head.]

The anger I feel towards her has nothing to do with you. Or the bond you wish to have with her. [But he is sure that if she hadn't thrown him away, it would have saved Inazuma a lot of misery. And, above all, perhaps the people who lived in Tatarasuna would have had the happy end they all deserve.] Yet, at times I wonder what I will do if she'd end up here as well. [He taps his chin briefly.] Perhaps it is for the best that she will never remember me.

Never say never. These places are strange. They could pull her from a reality where she hasn't forgotten you.

Hm. I have thought about that possibility.

[And, yeah, this place is strange.]

At times I wonder if this place is real. When I returned to Teyvat I did not remember this place, yet when I arrived here again, I did remember everything and what I have been doing in Teyvat.

I experienced something like that as well. I think it's real. The last place I was at had a habit of dipping us in and out of other realities as well.

Why do you think this is real? If it was real, we would be allowed to remember all of this when returning to Teyvat.

[He chuckles a joyless chuckle.]

Personally, I do not care that much. The kiss we once had was because of the rain, so that isn't something that has meaning. [All he knows is that kissing another has a meaning of some sorts.] But imagine you have kissed someone because your heart... [Wanderer points at her chest.] ...wanted it? Because of that human urge to make babies and form a lasting bond?

[Love, he means love.]

Imagine forgetting all of that.

[ She laughs, too--but it's actually a tinkly sound of... not joy, exactly, but genuine humor. ]

You of all people should know best of all that just because you don't remember a thing doesn't mean it didn't happen. Nor does it make it any less real.

I'm not scared of forgetting something precious. I've lived long enough that it's already happened at least once before, I'm sure.

[ Her memories from before arriving in Teyvat are distant and misty at best. ]

What's important is that it happened in the first place--that you live in and enjoy it in the present. Even if the kiss was caused because of the rain--I liked it. Have you ever thought to ask if I'd do it again?

[He chuckles in return.]

I am well aware of the irony. But I think...if there will ever be such a moment. [A moment he will know something close to happiness. A sense of belonging. A purpose.] I want to remember. I do not want to tamper with anyone's memory again. Not with mine. Not with those of others.

[His memories are, despite all the time that has passed, still fresh, yet he is sure they will fade over time as well. It is as if Lesser Lord Kusanali said one time. The more time that passes, the sooner the past he knows will be replaced by a new, and maybe more positive past. Pain will fade, views will change.]

No. [Wanderer shakes his head and looks at her briefly.] You should save your kisses for those you want to kiss.

You're making an awful lot of assumptions for someone that's never asked me who I want to kiss.

It doesn't matter to me who you wish to kiss.

[As long she doesn't want to kiss him. He isn't kiss-material.]
