Sorry about the short notice but
Any chance you could make it to a birthday party sometime this week?
Should've been the 22nd but well
Kind of lost track of time

[ When you actually show up to the park near Flynn's one-bedroom apartment, you'll know where the party is right away: chains of wildflowers string trees together around the clearing, and there's a big buffet table covered with lots of (clearly labeled for different dietary needs) food. The recipes definitely lean Japanese, and most of it's handmade, but there's also a selection of storebought snacks still in their wrappers for some reason. ]

[He nods to her and smiles as she starts to adjust things and he looks around a little bit lost.]

Are you sure I can't help with anything?

You're the birthday boy. Isn't it your job to be spoiled today ?

[She hums as she fixes things up. ]

I suppose there's washing up to be done if you're restless....

[It's like watching a puppy find a purpose. He literally brightens up and nods.]

Okay, I'll work on that.

[Judith hides a laugh behind her hand and she cocks her head in the direction of Flynn's kitchen where she had taken over to cook]

Well, if you're going in now, I'll have to give you a hand. I doubt the food out there will last long at this rate.

[That's a big party list.]

[He rolls up the sleeves on his black turtleneck right above his elbows.]

You're probably right. I wasn't expecting that we'd have a party. But it kind of reminds me of home and the way we would celebrate in the lower quarter.

[He starts to run the water to get the dishes started.]

I wash, you dry?

[Judith picks up a tea towel and nods. Hand her the dishes ]

Are the parties in the lower quarter always this big?

Definitely. Bigger maybe? Everyone came together just to be with each other, and we just enjoyed the company and the festivities.

Presents definitely weren't a part of that, so I told Yuri to make sure they know they didn't need to bring any, but I honestly don't know if they'll listen.

[Of course Flynn doesn't personally know too many people, but the ones he invited hopefully would come. He quietly starts to tidy up the small kitchen and the dishes that had piled up.]

Mmm, if people want to show their appreciation in their own way, you should let them.

[ But a party like that...it sounds nice. Judith is not a messy cook and she limited her use of utensils as much as she could. But with such a large number of people, the dishes were bound to stack]

I know. It's just that I feel like I have really done anything to help anyone here I've just been, well, here.

[He quietly goes back to washing the dishes, and he looks over at her with a smile.]

I won't say anything to anyone who brings me a gift. I'll be very thankful that they thought of me.

Oh good. Because I have something, and if you didn't want it, I would have been very put out.

[Sparkling as she helps dry the dishes]

Thank you in advance for whatever you got me, I'm sure I'll love it.

[He takes his time washing the dishes, and finally finishes, leaning against the counter afterward.]

I'll be a little put out if you don't like it.

[She smiles, leaning against the counter too]

Would you like to see before your guests arrive?

Sure, I'd love to. Also, how could I not like a gift from you Judith?

[He smiles at her and waits for her to lead the way to wherever this gift is.]

[Judith smiles, and steps out into the company, lifting her gaze up to the sky as she gives a whistle.

Ba'ul. Bring our friend with you.

There's a keening whale-like noise and Ba'ul floats down gently, with a small basket in his mouth, and a yipping familiar yellow puppy with him]

Happy birthday.

[Flynn sees Ba'ul, then the puppy and his eyes light up. He looks at the little one and then towards Judith a grin splitting onto his face at the sight of the little puppy.

It was the puppy that they had taken back to the shelter with his friends.]

Judith...

[His eyes look a little misty, and he rubs at them before he reaches out and gently takes the small basket and the puppy.]

Thank you.

[He holds the little one against his chest, setting the blanket down on the table with the other gifts as he brushes a hand down his back.]

Hey little guy...It's been a few days, huh?

[moonstriking]

[She wasn't expecting the strength of that reaction. It fills her up with a quiet warmth, and she clasps her hands behind her back as she smiles at them]

You'll have to give that little one a good name.

[The puppy wiggles, squirming as it turns up to lick Flynn's chin]

[He looks down at the little one in his arms as he buries his face against the wiggling puppy.]

His name is Fielacius, but we can just call him Fiel.

[Flynn moves over and leans over, kissing her on the cheek.]

Really, thank you.

[ Judith blinks, and she feels heat sweep over her cheeks for what feels like the first time in forever]

Ah--of course.

[ Glancing over at Flynn with a soft smile]

That's a good, strong name. 'Fiel' huh?
