[ kaveh didn't think alhaitham would just bend to his will, so he smirks, setting his hands on his chest and leaning in reeeeal close. ] What will you have me pay?

[ Good Kaveh. We are data collectors first and foremost, after all. ]

It seems as if someone wished to live here. I suspect that establishing their main living quarters in the branches was for safety.

But there's no door. [ he glances back down at the massive opening at the bottom. ] Maybe their intention was not to make it a home but a... base? [ a place to work or something. he's not sure, but whatever the reason the furnishings are scarce. ] It's not very cozy. [ ... ] Unless the perpetrator is a squirrel. [ he continues to climb, but eventually he slows, letting alhaitham take the lead. ]

[ I'm sorry he's like this. ]

Return my books to the library for me.

[ Alhaitham walks ahead at the silent offer, keeping an even pace as he climbs up higher. For some reason, the longer he goes, the more tired he feels and the more irritable he starts to feel himself getting at that. Irritable, at just climbing a set of stairs? That wasn't much like him. ]

Perhaps they were very friendly squirrels.

[ MOOD KILLER. ]

[ kaveh keeps his head down as he murmurs to himself, ] Ridiculous. [ but that's the extent of his reply. if he had anything else to say he keeps it to himself, instead leaving alhaitham to do all the talking. his phone is still in hand, a few quick sentences about the subtle changes in the tree typed up. ]

[ YOU KNEW WHAT YOU WERE GETTING INTO, KAVEH. ]

[ And... talkative, Alhaitham is. Strangely enough. ]

Friendly squirrels isn't that much of a stretch. There are claw marks around and the size is about right, so perhaps they don't have many natural predators around here. A symbiotic relationship with local wildlife seeking shelter in this tree would benefit them, if they're intelligent enough creatures. Which they could very well be if they were also intelligent enough to create stairs.

[ This is probably more words than he says in his usual morning around the apartment. ]

[ The most blank stare in return before he sighs. ]

[ alhaitham sure talks a lot. has he always been this chatty? kaveh takes a deep breath, trying to block out most of what he's saying. man, a pair of headphones would sure come in handy. ]

Even if they're hyper intelligent squirrels I sincerely doubt that the squirrels constructed these stairs. [ kaveh types up another few lines, noting that the further they ascend the worse the construction is. ]

There is no perversion to being shirtless in your own home. You're the one requesting I do so out of the privacy of my own room.

[ kaveh folds his arms across his chest and looks aside. he's fine! ] You could have asked me to do anything but you spent your request on my returning your books to the library. I'm just, I'm making better use of the opportunity.

You're saving me a half hour trip in exchange for a few minutes of my own time. I'm hardly jealous of the decisions made.

[ alhaitham. is. INFurIatING. ] Give me the books. [ holds a hand out for them. ] I want to come back to you with no shirt on.

[ He's at least finished his food by now, so he gets up to retrieve the not-very-small stack of books he'd been amassing in his room. ]

[ kaveh finishes eating as well, and it's a good thing too, since he drops his fork the moment alhaitham comes out with that OBNOXIOUS stack of books. ] ...are you serious? [ no wonder this is what he asked for. ]

[ Be gentle with the silverware Kaveh. ]

Of course. They are due tomorrow as well, so this is fortunate timing.

[ of. course. he gets up and takes the books... leaving dinner to be cleared by alhaitham. ha, take that. ] I'll be back in an hour. [ he summons mehrak to help him, since he's already struggling to carry them all. he barely gets out the door in one piece. ]
