[ He has about two seconds to decide because they're already in the hallway. ]

[ kaveh can't bring himself to say 'like a princess', so he just mumbles a 'nevermind'. ]

[ It's easy, meeting Kaveh's gaze even while the other man's eyes brim with emotion. Kaveh's always like that, full of brightness and everything he's feeling is always so evident on his face, even when he's being shy and hesitant like he is now. He's really quite terrible at hiding it. ]

[ What's difficult is putting his finger on the answer he'd like to verbalize. The way he tended to act around Kaveh and treat him was certainly his usual self but there was a difference to it at the same time; it was almost as if he got pulled along with Kaveh's rhythm more and more often. He'd long ago regarded Kaveh as a mirror of sorts, a reflection of a way of thinking that opposed Alhaitham's and an approach to life that, if observed, would expand his own way of thought in spaces he normally wouldn't. ]

[ It's fascinating in a way. So of course, he can only answer one way, simple but clear in its logic when faced with the facts. ]

[ Maybe next time, Kaveh. For now, he's being set down surprisingly gently onto his bed. And by surprisingly gently, I mean he's not outright tossed down onto his bed. ]

...thanks. [ mumbled out, because as soon as alhaitham sets him down he grabs a pillow and drags it over, burying his face into it. ] I'll be out there in a few minutes. I just need to... lay down for a bit.

Get as much rest as you need. I'll take care of dinner.

[ He wasn't kidding when he said he was feeling energized, so he was well ready to take care of things. It'd also give him some time to think Certain Things over. ]

[ kaveh nods, taking about an hour to himself. he returns to the kitchen, looking for alhaitham. ] What did you end up making for dinner?

... [ for some reason that hits hard. everything? kaveh swallows, not having expected to be so expertly bullied. his mouth drops open for a moment, as he tries to come up with some kind of response, but the stammers out nothing but nonsense as his face colors pink. he eventually just nods, because he's at a literal loss for words. ]

[ he doesn't know what, exactly, makes his relationship with alhaitham so electro-charged, but no one makes him feel so intensely about anything. the good, the bad, & the ugly. it's all always amplified when he's with him. this place just made that fact more obvious. ]

[ the silence that hangs between them stretches, becoming a bit too much, so he says the first thing that comes to mind. ] Does that mean you don't want me to stop?

Sabz Meat Stew.

[ Of course, Alhaitham has taken to reading a book while he finishes the final steps of the dish. ]

[ Also of course, the food being served doesn't resemble Sabz Meat Stew at all, but Alhaitham's unique version instead. At least he didn't carve any words into the dish though. ]

I used a local variety of spices in place of Snapdragon, but I believe the flavor should be quite similar.

[ A dozen emotions may be going through Kaveh's mind but Alhaitham's at the moment is quite simple, satisfied with how that single sentence was able to convey his thoughts with apparent efficiency. ]

[ kaveh hums, acknowledging the change as he takes a seat the table. he’s not the least bit surprised that alhaitham’s sabz meat stew isn’t the traditional version, but instead something that’s uniquely him. ]

It smells great. [ he sets and elbow on the table, resting his cheek against his hand as he watches him read. ] Have you finished reading about all the different segments?

[ yeah yeah, he’ll ask next time, but he’s noticed that he’s avoiding answering the question. ]

[ he leans in until they’re nose to nose. ] I will, now answer the question. Did you like it?

[ Setting each dish one by one on the table, he glances at Kaveh, or more specifically examines his condition now that he's had some rest. ]

Have you been to Amberfall district yet?

[ In turn, Alhaitham fixes his eyes on Kaveh in return, not backing down as is the normal for them. ]

… [ of course. ] How it felt - the touching and the, [ no, he’s not going to be the one to back down first. ] the kissing.

[ Can't believe shy and hesitant Kaveh is gone and now it's just aggressive Kaveh in his face. Of course he's not gonna stop being an ass. ]

[ his grin sharpens for a half a second, because if alhaitham can be petulant, then so can he. he gets consent, but does the scribe really believe he’s going to remember any of this the next time he drinks a little too much… ]

Go on, do it. [ he leans in, kissing the corner of his lips, and then murmuring against his skin, ] Call me senpai.

[ he's fine. he's been fine. ] No, not yet. I spent a lot of time in the main city and then I even visited the Winter Segment. Do you need to go there?

[ Where is Kaveh getting these ideas from, Alhaitham has some words he'd like to say to them. ]
