[ Venti has always been the type who wanders to the beat of his own drum, dipping in and out of people's lives as easily as the blowing wind. But Tokyo-F . . . changed things, somewhat.

Though his initial instinct had been to sleep under a tree and call it "home," an invitation to live with old friends put a halt to those plans. For starters, it would be protection from the unpredictable weather in the segments. For another, maybe he did get used to having a bed and a room to call "home," in no small part because of the teammates and friends who inhabited it with him. Now that solitary tree feels . . . lonely, in a way it didn't before.

And so here he is, standing at the threshold of a house full of people he loves and trusts, who asked him to stay . . . it makes him feel his age, but not in a bad way, for once. Nor does he feel that nagging urge to disappear into the wind.

Should he catch anyone watching him, the pensive expression dissolves into a smile. ]

Hehe, is this the part where we fight over bedrooms?

[Katsuki will go take a seat on their couch then, sitting prim and proper since he's at a guest's house. He listens to Saya as he takes a sip of his tea, and remarks in his head about the flavour. He's got a great palate, so he's quick to notice the different notes... that's a good cup of tea.]

If you want to. Otherwise I'm going to keep calling you "Miss Alien."

[Kantera gives Saya's shoulder a reassuring squeeze before taking a seat on the couch as well. This will be fine, even if it's something she'll probably always worry about.]

[sangreine]

[ Saya remains standing, she's too uncomfortable to sit down. ]

The name of my species is called Chiropterans. It means bat. I'm a kind of vampire. But I don't attack people [ when in her right mind ], and it's not like it is in stories...

[ trailing off and BRACING HERSELF ]

[katsuking]

A vampire?

[That does get Katsuki to pause before taking another sip, and raise a little eyebrow, but he doesn't look fearful. In fact, his expression shifts to something more of sympathy.]

Well.. of course it ain't gonna be like stories about them. That's why they're stories. It's the same thing with Heroes. There's comic books about 'em, sure, but they aren't realistic at all about what it's like to be one.

[Kantera knew it would be alright, but it's still good to hear that answer from Katuski directly.]

'Tis that way with most of the nonhumans I've met - the stories are far removed from the reality. I suspect that's true in every world.

[sangreine]

[ Saya sinks down to sit beside her husband, looking numb. One might correctly assume that this hasn't always gone well. ] Sorry -- humans don't always like my kind much.

Anyway... my abilities are biological. I can't teach you in one lesson how to move that fast, but I can help you get faster over time, and more importantly, to learn how to beat someone even if they're as fast as me.

[ She's rambling a bit, sorry. ]

[Does being a Hero count as "nonhuman"? That doesn't settle too well with Katsuki, but he lets it roll off instead to agree with the sentiment.]

You probably saw all the people calling me childish for asking about Heroes and Villains, but my dedication is as real as it gets. I've been working towards being a Hero since my Quirk first manifested at four years old.

[Katsuki lowers his cup, and his gaze drops to his hands that grip it.]

I need to know how to beat someone as fast as you. That's my biggest weakness-- my speed. It takes one and a half seconds for me to make an explosion, and if I can't dodge quick enough then I won't be able to keep it up. I rely on huge explosions to clear the entire area, but if an enemy is fast enough to dodge that then I'm screwed.

It's happened before. Many times.

[The only time he felt like he was fast enough was when he saved Izuku's life. But he can't rely on a burst of emotions that pumped his adrenaline to the nines every single time he fights.]

[We wasn't counting Katsuki in the 'nonhuman' group, for what it's worth. Just himself and Saya.]

I don't think you're childish. [Quietly.] Your world is different from mine or Saya's, that's all. I think your dedication is an admirable thing.

[He doesn't have much advice on combat, unfortunately, so he'll leave that to Saya.]

[sangreine]

I don't think it's childish either. I meant it when I said I wish I could do what you do.

[ She's not getting more into the bullshit story of her life without being asked, but yeah. Things get messy over centuries and when your twin is a psycho. ]

We'll work together, and you'll definitely be able to beat me in time. Especially once you figure out the new magic. I'm a lot more vulnerable to magic than physical attacks. [ Not something she shares generally, but as a show of good faith that she's not being patronizing. She really believes he could beat her with time and practice. ]

[katsuking]

Oh, right. I forgot about the new stuff.

[That little puff of smoke he gave comes to mind, and his cheeks flush a little in embarrassment.]

I know someone who can teach me how to use fire better, so if I train with him for that and you for speed then I'll probably become completely unstoppable.

[Embarrassment quickly turns into excitement, and he gets a big grin on his face just thinking about mixing fire with his Quirk.]

I would believe that.

[It's not a good idea to let him get overconfident, but Kantera is bad about not indulging teenagers. Oops.]

[sangreine]

[ His excitement is pretty adorable -- sorry, badass. ]

Not just fire, but telekinesis. It wouldn't surprise me if there are others we get as we learn.

There are people more powerful than me running around here, and you never know what they'll be vulnerable to. [ Avoiding mentioning how she knows that is definitely go. Pay no attention to the bard behind the curtain. ]

[katsuking]

Telekinesis?

[That.. sounds.... so cool....]

Like... mind reading?

Psychically moving objects.

[sangreine]

Mind reading is telepathy. Same idea, though. Using your mind to do things means you can do a lot more with less.

[ Choosing not to mention that her species is telepathic (active ability though, she has to try) because honestly why make it weird. ]

With telekinesis, if it gets strong enough and I can't counter it, you could grab hold of me and keep me there.

[katsuking]

[Katsuki listens, his eyes practically sparkling as he hears about these new powers he gets to learn. He can move physical objects or people without even touching them?

Wait.. actually. That reminds him of someone.]

That's the same Quirk as Deku's mom!

[He exclaims that with a little lurch forward in his seat, and he almost drops his cup of tea.]

Are quirks usually unique to one person?

[He never actually got the rundown on how those worked.]

[sangreine]

[ She waits silently to see if he'll explain why this is a surprise to him. Maybe he thought of how she uses her powers in a way that he could replicate? ]

[katsuking]

[Katsuki nods in response, and his excitement has yet to falter.]

Yeah, usually how it works is that you're born with a Quirk that either shows up from birth or manifests around the time you reach four or five years old. It's based on genetics, so you can get your mom's Quirk or your dad's, or a mix of the two. Sometimes they mutate entirely, and you get something completely unexpected. And it's rare, but there are really unlucky people who have no Quirks at all. They end up being pencil pushers.

[He'll pause to take a sip of his tea.]

I have a friend who's mom can use telekinesis. He's watched her use it all his life, but he never got it from her. So now that I have it, it's going to really piss him off!

[And, by the shit eating grin on Katsuki's face, he really enjoys the idea of that.]

[Covering a chuckle with his sleeve.]

Don't rub it in too much. He'll have his own new powers here as well, after all.

[sangreine]

[ She can't help but laugh. ]

I guess you'll be motivated to master it quickly.

[katsuking]

[Katsuki's smile immediately disappears, instead looking confused as he glances from Kantera to Saya while they both are just tickled by his response.]

Why are you laughing?! I'm going to be powerful enough to beat you into the ground if I master this stuff, Miss-- Saya! So you should be scared instead!

I've no plans to do anything to be worth a Hero targeting me, so there's no reason for me to be scared, is there?

[sangreine]

I don't mind being beaten by someone, especially if they worked hard for it.

[ He'll have to wipe the smile off her face himself! Eventually. ]

[katsuking]

I'm not just a Hero, I'm also an asshole and there's no one here to stop me from kicking both of your asses for laughing at me!

[Except for himself... he's all bark and only a little bite.]
