[1) January 7, hospital room]

[The musical effect is fading around the city. Justice has been served. Hearts have been put to right. And Rinku's appearance in people's minds over the past week and reports of her appearing during the final confrontation for a rematch of that song battle indicated that she isn't really gone. All there is left is for her to wake up.

It starts with a flutter of eyelashes. A few minutes later, a twitch of her finger. Her family is called (easy when they've been spending most of their time here), briefed, warned that people waking up from comas might be confused and freak out and might take a bit to get back to normal.

Eventually, she mumbles something under her oxygen mask, the last few lines of a lingering song effect.]

I'm coming home
I'm coming home
Tell the world that I'm coming home...

[Rinku groans and slowly, as if her eyelids are weighed down, opens her eyes.]

[2) the first few days later, Shining Karaoke]

[Rinku could take time off, but she's just been gone a week and is in no condition to go out questing, and the bills have to get paid somehow. And more to the point, she misses her life. Misses music without the pain behind it. And that means going back to the karaoke bar and doing her best!

Although she does look pretty awkward maneuvering a hospital-loaned wheelchair around the tables and balancing trays on her lap.]

Ehe. Don't worry, I'll be used to this in no time! Oh, or I guess my physical therapy will let me walk again before then, but either way that means I'll be fine! Can I take your order?

[3) any time later, Fine Arts House]

[Rinku is happily taking home visitors (don't worry, Mary has been chided for the knife threats at the hospital). At any knock at the door, she opens it with telekinesis and waves; in the first week after waking up, she's using the wheelchair, but she starts using a walker after that point. Either way, she's smiling.]

Hi! How are you doing, are you feeling okay? I was gonna work on my homework for physical therapy. Did you wanna come down to our pool with me?

[4) some days later, Sauna Spa]

[Rinku's bundled up in actual winter gear instead of magically warming herself up, so she's set out here for a purpose. And that purpose is... getting in line at the inn check-in line? She smiles, leaning on her walker, if someone approaches.]

Hello! Did you come here to pre-book something too?

[5) other]

[Wildcard! Rinku can be found, either with wheelchair or walker depending on the day, at all the places she loves going, like the Summer Guild, the streets of Solarpeak (beaches may provide an accessibility challenge, though), the Otherworlder Fan Merch Store to check for new releases, or the grocery store because the poor kids have probably been living on hospital food. Or anywhere! Rinku loves everything.]

[Evangeline sees it before she even starts to stir, Rinku's soul being in its proper place once more. Tentatively, she shapeshifts back her vocal cords, ready to disappear them again at the first urge to sing.

But there's no song from her, just sheer, unadulterated relief.]

Rinku?

Mm...nn?

[Rinku blinks blearily. She twitches and starts slowly forcing her hands up to pat at her oxygen mask.]

Neechan... 'M here. Like I promised.

I'm - I'm so glad-

[And there come the tears, streaming down her face. She scoots her chair up to Rinku's bedside and presses her hand over hers.]

[Oh. It's just like where she just was, but this time, she's the one who's weakened, laying down, while someone's come to help her.

Rinku sniffles and cries. She moves her hand to hold Evangeline's, weakly but as tight as she can manage. Her body's started weakening from not moving in a week.]

I missed you... I'm glad I got to see you. I'm glad you're here.

I've been here the whole time. -During visiting hours, they had to kick me out sometimes. But otherwise, I've been right here, waiting for you to come back.

[Squeeeze.]

[Mecchan chips in with some babbling about how scary it was. Rinku moves her head enough to nuzzle him and squeezes Evangeline's hand back as well as her weakened body can manage.]

How long was it? I couldn't really keep track.

A week. We were all really worried.

[At least she knew what the problem was... but then again, she knew what the problem was and wasn't able to do anything about it.]

[Worried noise. She holds her hand and shakes her head.]

We made it back. I think everyone's gonna be okay now. I didn't wanna make you worry.

I mean... I am, just...

[Amy looked down, sad.]

I couldn't even try to help you. I didn't know what I could do.

[And she looks back up, determined]

But I wanna help you now!

It's okay, Amy-chan! Nobody knew. I didn't even know what I could do to help until I did it. But I'm really glad you're all okay. I guess most of what that guy did was make everybody sing... and then mess with Davis-san and the people close to him, and also me.

But, still, I wish I could have done something then...

[And Amy pulls out a potion she got last month]

Maybe this'll help in some way.

What is it? Is it some kinda healing potion? They told me I'll be fine as long as I do my exercises and go to the hospital for therapy and stuff. I was only out for a week, so they say I'm gonna be okay in no time!

Actually, no. It's the Potion of Newly-Discovered Powers. I'm gonna use it so next time something like this happens, I should be strong enough to save you!

[She thinks about it for a second and sighs]

Or maybe I'm being stupid in my guilt.

You don't have to feel bad, Amy-chan.

[She shakes her head and moves back so Amy can come in.]

I feel the same way a lot of the time. Like I was helpless to save the people around me. But I just keep working harder. And besides, nobody knew this was gonna happen. And when it did, we all thought it was just improvisation to make the show more fun until it was too late.

[And Amy steps in]

I know. I guess a part of me is still guilty of not being able to save one of my friends back home before it was too late. But... I guess I shouldn't take it so hard, either way.

Yeah... It's gonna be okay now. I bet everyone'll be ultra happy now that we're all back to normal.

Boy, I hope so. So! You said you were doing homework?

Yeah, I gotta do stuff to keep up with my physical therapy so I can get back to walking sooner. I guess it's hard to make your body do stuff again when it hasn't been doing anything.

I can give you a hand if you want me to?

Really? Thanks! I was just gonna use our pool.

[Rinku starts wheeling herself to the elevator at the back of the house.]

We almost never use this, so I'm really glad we have it.

Huh! I had no idea you had one!

Yeah, that's what's in the back of the house! I think a couple people assumed it was a garage, since it goes down to the ground where the rest of the house is on platforms.

[She hits the button and waits.]

[Dusty is the first to notice the movement, a worried little cry to alert the rest of the kids as they were called in- and the Blue Doll who had been left on watch at the foot of the bed (that had to be a worrying sight for anyone who wasn't Rinku) flopped gently against Rinku's leg.

Mary and Mimi rushed in next- Mary grabbing hold of Rinku's hand in both of her's.]

Rinku?? Rinku- Rinku, wake up-

[A squeak from Mimi who...couldn't reach from where she was, but hopefully Mary'd lift her up soon.]

[Mecchan, allowed in with the staff thanks to a convincing argument from Evangeline, climbs up the side of the bed, and Hina flies over and lands on the bed. They all watch as Rinku stirs.

Rinku twitches and drags her hands up, slow and clumsy from disuse. She blinks, patting and grabbing with her free hand at the oxygen mask on her face, and then her eyes start to focus.]

Kids? ...Mary-chan. Everyone.

[The nurses, who seemed to have been prepared for freaking out and fighting with the staff and equipment, visibly relax, though they still watch to make sure no one does anything rash. Rinku squeezes the hand Mary is holding.]

You're seriously back at work already? You look a wreck.

[Just what Rinku needs, Eva being her usual patronising self.

She didn't really recall the dream encounter- EVA kept plenty of memories to herself, rather than sharing them with her piece- so as far as she was concerned, this was the first time she was seeing her since New Years.]

I missed it!

[Rinku just keeps smiling, undeterred.]

You sound like Louis-kun telling me I must dream of labour because I don't have a fancy job where I work less.

...I should be asking you that. You've only been out of hospital for a couple of days, haven't you?

[Twogami himself looks a little perturbed that she's asking if he's okay! Then again... he'd dismissed the weird dream as just that, but what if it was more than that?

More notably, he was carrying a number of cool-bags with him. Someone's been cooking!]

Byakuya-kun!

[Or... is it? Well, unsure, but she's happy to see whoever he is. She wheels back to let him in.]

I'm okay! I've been working hard on getting back to normal. You brought food?

I... yes, I did.

[Her tail swished a bit behind her as she spoke- as if only just realising who she was talking to when she heard Rinku's voice. It was definitely a relief that she was up and about again!]

...It is good to see you.

[Rinku sparkles up at her.]

I missed you too! Did you visit me in the hospital? I couldn't hear anything, but I'm really glad so many people came.

[Silver Yogi has been in and out of the hospital, exhausted and annoyed. He's running on full adrenaline at this point.

But he heard Rinku was awake so he rushed over and now he's standing by the door, staring.]

Rinku.

Yogi-kun!

[Rinku coughs. She clumsily rubs her throat, cracked from disuse.]

Are you okay? I wondered why --

[She looks around to make sure no one else is here. (Well, Hina is, but she's napping, hanging upside down from an IV stand.)]

I've been in the back of everyone's minds, kinda. And I found my way to yours, but the other you was there, so I figured this you must be out here. Have you rested?

[That's the thing. He hasn't slept properly at all and he looks it. If he fell into deep sleep, the blond him would have appeared so it was just light naps here and there for as long as this was going on.

He walks over to the bed, sitting down next to it on a chair.]

Don't worry about me. How are you? Do you need something?

[Rinku reaches over to grab weakly at his hand.]

I think I'm okay. It's a little hard, but they say I'm gonna get to come back for physical therapy for a while to get my body used to moving again. The staff was really stressed out, so I wanna do something for them too.

[Dramatization:
[Mary threatening people with knives she smuggled into the hospital, Dusty pranking people, Mimi getting underfoot, Mecchan making everyone cry, Hina bothering the staff hoping they will share their blood bags]
Staff: We understand that your family was under a great amount of stress and we respect that you are a major donor to this hospital, but please never get sick or injured again so we do not have to deal with All Of This.
Rinku: ???
Kids: Um...]

[Yogi takes her hand with both of his.]

I saw your friends here whenever I came to check in on you. I didn't bother them, since they seemed to be suffering so much.

[Just like he was. But nothing helped him so he didn't know what to do. His other half would have known, but he was being selfish.]

I... was also really worried. I haven't let Yogi back this whole time. At least Ezra should be able to explain this at his work.

[It's not like he wants to destroy his life, but this was important.]

[She squeezes his hand and makes a worried noise.]

He was worried when I saw him. I told him he wasn't useless for being asleep. I didn't wanna make you worry either, Yogi-kun. Are you two gonna be okay?

[pause]

Wait, work! Is everyone at Shining Karaoke okay? I know I've left them alone for a while with things like quests and stuff, but you plan to go on quests!

Calm down. You shouldn't worry about it, I'm sure they were able to cover you and your boss will understand.

[Work was definitely not a priority right now. Not that he even knew who that boss was, but surely everyone knew something was off.]

... as for us, we'll be fine. Once I go to sleep and put the patch on, he'll come back. Confused, but he'll survive.

[He shrugs.]

And I only worried because I care about you so much, Rinku. I... really, really care about you.

[He shouldn't have these feelings, but he does. It's unfair to think one day he'll just be gone. Something that hadn't bothered him before, but now? It's starting to bother him.

But he didn't want to take Yogi's place either. Why should one disappear while the other stays?]

I shouldn't, but I still like you as... more than just a friend.

[Rarest of rare blush on his face.]

[Rinku's eyes go wide. She struggles to force herself to sit up, not letting go of his hand.]

Really? Really really? Are you okay with that? Like how I have feelings for lots of different people and sometimes go to things where that kinda stuff happens? I know people are okay with that for other people here, but I've had a couple people who I liked but couldn't be with because they needed something else, so I gotta make sure, because I know we've gone on a couple dates already, wait were those actually dates, and I really like you too and wanna make sure not to hurt you...

[Yogi is about to say she shouldn't move so much, but then he gets caught off guard by her words. He blinks and then smiles.]

I'm okay with that. It's not like I'm around all that much, so it's good you have other people who make you happy.

[And one day, he'll really be gone, so she should have people that love her.]

[Sniffle... She squeezes his hand again. Lurches forward a little and winces -- okay, no spinning in the bed. She settles back down and raises her finger on her other hand to spin that.]

「Happy Around!」

[Rinku smiles fondly.

Then there's squeaking. Hina takes off from the IV stand, spins around in the air, and goes flying off into the hallway to tell anyone who will listen (who speaks Zubat, at least).]

Hina-chan! When did you wake up?

[Gone... Rinku blushes and laughs a little.]

It's hard to tell when she's waking up when Zubat don't have any eyes... You're really okay with me? Because I like you a lot, Yogi-kun.

[At least no one has a Pokémon Amulet yet. Hina-chan suddenly waking up does surprise Yogi too. Blame it on being tired.]

She sure was excited.

[At least from what he could tell.]

Of course I am. [He squeezes her hand in turn.

The relief is starting to get to him, so he looks even more tired. But he's happy, so there's a smile on his face.]

I might need to stay away for a bit since I overdid it. But I will contact you whenever I come around again. Every time I do.

Yogi-kun... I'll answer! It's a promise! I'm really happy you're here.

[Both that he came to see her in the hospital and that he exists. Someone like him seems like he needs to hear that.]
