June Birthday Mingle 1: Hina

WHAT: Rinku's throwing a birthday party! ...For Hina, her Zubat.

WHERE: Fine Arts House in Solarpeak

The newly expanded Fine Arts House is decorated with streamers in the living room and a little "Happy Birthday" sign over the front door, signalling to visitors that this is the right place. Unlike with Mecchan's birthday, which was a small family picnic, Rinku knows Hina is a very sociable little bat, so she invited all manner of people around.

Games

The house is as colourful as ever, filled with drawings and with games set up. In the living room, they've got multiple game consoles, including a brand new Playstacean (just make sure it doesn't decide you've had enough screen time). Pin the tail on the human is also stuck on one wall, and the suction cup dartboard is out on another. You can also start up the usual party games -- truth or dare, never have I ever, two truths and a lie, etc.

There's also a kids' playroom on the new top floor! Anyone of any age and species can come up and play with the blocks, dolls, action figures, and board games about. Just don't be mean to the dolls, it's their house too.

Food
There's plenty of food in the kitchen that partygoers can take throughout the house. Most of it is the same kind of thing you can get from the Solarpeak food stalls -- street tacos, fried food on sticks, grilled potatoes. Rinku also made two cakes! One is a normal white cake, the other, clearly marked, is a blood-infused sponge cake for the birthday girl, the vampires, and the curious. The blood cake has a little candle in it, which Hina puts out by flapping her wings at it.

Activities

The music room and art room are open again for people to try their hand at sound mixing (yes, the entire DJ booth is out) or just play with the percussion instruments or the soundboard (which is set to assorted conch shell noises), or to paint or draw on provided paper (or the walls!).

Shinier and newer, though, is the brand new indoor pool with attached shower/changeroom! Attendees will have been told to bring their swimsuits, towels are provided, and pool toys are available, from rings to toss and collect to foam rafts and noodles. There's a fountain in the middle of the pool, and a hot tub off to the side.

Other

Hey, what's that other room on the new top floor with a hastily tacked-on "no idol hell allowed sorry" sign on the door? Why, it's an impressive collection of things from the Otherworlder Merch Store! Rinku and Mary have nearly everything of their own merchandise as well as plenty of things depicting all their friends. Hey, why is there a Katsuki itabag with 25 of the same charm on it? Is that really every piece of all-ages Evangeline merch? (Yes.) If you get overwhelmed, feel free to sit on the folding chairs... oh, wait, those are fan merch too.

And no one would blame anyone who took a nap in the soft room or just used it to cuddle! The number of plushies and pillows in there has only grown.

Mecchan's Room (for overwhelmed introverts)

Mecchan was way too scared hearing that there'd be such a big party. Instead, he's in his room, babysitting a litter of fluffy baby fairy bunnies. The kiddie pool in his room is emptied of water and filled with bunnies for baby safety reasons, and Mecchan can be seen petting them, climbing the cat tree by the window, or snuggled up to a life-sized plush tiger like it'll protect him.

He'll panic if anyone comes in... unless it's someone who already knows him well, at which point he will assume that they are also escaping the party and let them chill in his room for a while. Beware the bunnies, though -- if one sneezes, the would-be retreater might end up teleported back into the middle of the party, or somewhere else like right above the pool!

Reiner's present is a Zubat-sized wooden crown carved from a single piece of wood. It's decorated with red gemstones, but there's still plenty of space to chew around the rim! The crown is enchanted to be durable, and to return to its normal shape if it gets chewed too aggressively.

[Hina is very happy with this once Rinku gets the package open! She'll be wearing it at first, but once it falls off she'll decide it's a chew toy.]

What the hell do you get for a bat?

Ellie ended up getting a cool wrought iron perch that can be used for birds or, she figures, bats, which has plenty of space for the upside-down passenger.

[Once Hina figures it isn't for chewing, she hangs upside down from it and squeaks happily. Good place for naps!]

Shadow has no idea what to really get a bat like Hina. Well he knows she bites and drinks blood. So he gets a bag of his own green blood and puts it on top of dry ice, in a cooler, and puts a bow on it. There you go, Hina. Blood of the Ultimate Lifeform. Happy Birthday.

[That goes into the blood fridge to be saved for later! Zubat don't have eyes, so she can't tell it's a different colour, but she's very happy about it.]

What to get Hina? Oh that's easy. A Zubat ducky! The perfect bath and chew toy. He made it special so the holes will fill up. Never ending chomps!

[Hijikata is on an assignment, but he briefly stops by to deliver a present for Hina: Several small water balloons filled with monster blood he gathered on quests and kept frozen until this morning! They're not so full that they'll burst upon being pricked, so he hopes that she'll be able to drink from them comfortably. It's a change from the huma(oid)- and animal blood she usually gets - the equivalent of a game meal, in his opinion.]

[Frieda only stops by after nightfall, but she brings a present for Hina: A sponge with a texture that should be fun to bite and soak blood out of! She demonstrates how to use it with a small vial of fish blood with is part of the present. They all live by the sea, but how often does Hina get to bite sea organisms?]

[Yay!! Hina's so happy... even if she looks pouty and jealous when Frieda first comes in. How come she got to evolve?]

[Megumi has no idea what to get anything but it's several small balls that were placed in a bag of various colors and sizes. She made sure that they're not easy to break if someone (read: Hina) bites into them.]

[Rinku (in... what is that shirt) welcomes everyone at the doors, flitting between the elevator, the back stairs, and the front stairs. She'll lead everyone into the party... and let's be realistic, hug most of them.]

I'm really glad you made it! Hina-chan's gonna be so happy!

[She'll be all over the party; playing the games, serving the food, and showing up to the pool in the most festive swimsuit she owns. A lot of the time, she'll be looking after Hina and making sure she doesn't bite anything she shouldn't! Feel free to hit her up.

Speaking of the birthday girl, you can also run into Hina on her own if you want. She can usually be found flying around the party, scribbling with a crayon even though she can't see the end result, or riding around on the Playstacean when it's decided enough screen time is enough and starts walking away. She thinks it's a game.]

[Rinku gets distracted by Ellie's question and lights up.]

Yeah! All the sound equipment in there is for my DJing! It all goes into the booth and I take it around to shows and stuff. Do you wanna try it?

[Without hesitation, Evangeline serves herself a slice of blood cake and has a bite of it. Munch, munch.]

This isn't that bad, actually.

[Rinku lets out a sigh of relief. Hina squeaks happily between bites.]

Really? I worked hard on it! ...Though I had lots of chances to practise recently too...

Since this is a Pokémon's birthday party, Reiner brings along Panzer, his Turtwig.

Panzer sticks close to Reiner (and is often carried), but she accepts gentle pets from strangers. She also likes to find sunny spots. Catch her basking in a window with Reiner nearby, him eating food and her eating … well, sunlight.

Later, Reiner can be found at the indoor pool wearing swim trunks and nothing else, floating around in an inner tube with Panzer perched in his lap. He gives a wave to anyone who approaches the pool. "This is nice, isn't it?"

Or, even later, catch Reiner backing slowly out of the fan merch room, looking like he'd rather wipe the place from his memory.

[Rinku went upstairs to check on the playroom, but when she sees him backing away, she pales and rushes over to him.]

Wah! I didn't know you went to hell! Are you okay?

[Rinku, do you think Imeeji CRAUs are the only people who hate fan merch? ...that's a yes.]

Hell? [ Reiner repeats the word, looking over at Rinku. ] Is that what that was?

Ellie can be found at various places in the party, notably the food because getting this variety is still pretty novel. Although the blood cake gets her to blink and remark, "well, you don't see that every day."

After that she goes to the music room to check things out and finds a variety of electronic marvels that of course she never got to see in use back home in the apocalypse. So she'll tinker with those for a while while muttering the occasional "fucking cool."

The warning sign outside the merch room DEMANDS that she go in and see, and -- okay, what the fuck? She laughs in the doorway, going in to poke around because why the hell not? Catch her red-handed peeking at some of the body pillows in wonder.
