Guideline

• These quests are valid from start of June until end of July.
• Characters don't need to be a member of the guild to do quests, and anyone can do any segment's quest! The quests are just marked this way to show where the quests are taking place.
• City Location Details | Segment Location details
• Remember to keep distances in mind: it takes 2 weeks to travel from the bridges to the edge of the map (barrier). Faster methods for travel exist, of course.
• For some of the monsters, additional details can be found from the Bestiary.
• Rewards are for one completion of the Quest, but characters can do it multiple times to earn more money from them, as the problems do repeat.

• Please see the guild page for permanent quests.

Quest Types
• Battle Quests: Usually deal with hordes of monsters or monsters that threaten the natives. Always involves battling.
• Boss Battle Quests: Boss Battles appear when a certain condition is met. Usually linked to normal battle quests and always involve battling. They can be "summoned" multiple times during the months.
• Gathering Quests: Ingredient hunting. These can be gathering minerals, plants or even capturing animals where necessary. Rarely involves battling - if there is it will be marked.
• Misc Quests: Quests that don't really fit into other categories.

City Quests

Ellympic Mecha Judo	A set of sporting events has been organized that will be broadcast throughout the area to show off the capabilities of the city's heroes! In this event, climb into some of the Mecha Suit Hangar's basic models and try and fight each other without weapons to pinfall or submission.	All "official" Ellympic quests have a little camera drone following characters to film their event; the drone must be kept safe, but will generally try and stay out of danger to get good shots.	2,000 Moon Coins, a medal for the winner
If You're Not From The Prairie	There's a portal dimension that's being used to grow crops for the people of Nightwake since there's not enough farmland, but the natives aren't used to how the seasons change inside. Seeding was fine, but now summer has come to the Farm Dimension and they could use some help!	Crops are mostly grains and other field crops, such as wheat, barley, canola, or flax. The farm work involves irrigation (it doesn't rain so much in summer!), weeding, spreading fertilizer, finding ways to keep out pests like mice and gophers that are eating the crops, and possibly finding ways to protect the crop from hail or fires.	500 Moon Coins
I'm the Cash Man	An eccentric jeweller in the city has declared an offer of Moon Coins for something "special." He won't elaborate, though, only giving the cryptic clue, "I need something green and refreshing! Oh, yeah!"	What the jeweller really wants is an emerald from the Crystal Mines, which has magical properties that can be used in healing items, but he'll take anything else that fits the description, just giving smaller rewards.	1,000 Moon Coins (for the correct item), 250 Moon Coins (for anything else that can be said to be "green and refreshing")
Ten-Second Tidy	The city's a huge mess after the sun-and-moon incident, but worry not! We've got the perfect solution! This wand we've just developed can clean everything up in a snap! It just needs some testing.	Characters who agree to test the wand will find that it cleans up one area perfectly back to normal... but then just makes a mess somewhere else in the city. Battle Quests

Beaver Barricade	Snow Beavers seem to be fed up with the fish migration patterns changing and have dammed up the river between the Half-Frozen and Unfrozen Lakes. They won't be happy about this, but we need to clear out the dam before they cause a flood.	Snow Beavers will attack when anyone tries to destroy the dam in whole or in part. If characters succeed in destroying the dam, the beavers will rebuild it again and won't give up until the end of the quest period.	4,000 Moon Coins
Ellympic Snowboarding	A set of sporting events has been organized that will be broadcast throughout the area to show off the capabilities of the city's heroes! Downhill snowboarding is exciting enough in itself, but some Snow Sharks got past the barriers put up for the event. Better either evade them or fight them off while you're racing down the mountain!	All "official" Ellympic quests have a little camera drone following characters to film their event; the drone must be kept safe, but will generally try and stay out of danger to get good shots.	3,000 Moon Coins, a medal for the winner of the race
Jaws for Concern	A strange fish has started showing up in the Half-Frozen Lake, aggressively attacking anyone trying to fish or swim in the water. It's also having a terrible effect on the populations of other fish and animals in the lake. We've never seen anything like it before, and we need a few willing adventurers to head over there to cut down their numbers and protect the native wildlife.	This is a result of an unfortunate incident involving improper use of creation magic. The fish in question is a shrieker - a very large, very angry, dangerous creature that will put up quite a fight.	700 Moon Coins per fish

Face Off CW/TW: dismemberment	Be careful in the Winter Segment. Glamour Monsters have been spotted again, attacking people they find. They might even try to tear off physical features of someone they find beautiful.	This boss only appears upon the completion of another Winter Segment quest. Moving Crew	Now that the dragons have settled into the Abandoned Castle, they need people to pick up anything they might have left behind in the Frozen Falls and bring it over to them.	The dragons' belongings can be anything (they do hoard, after all!) but there isn't much left there. The enchantment in the valley inside the mountain has faded without the dragons around, so items can be picked up without disintegrating and the fake sun and grass are gone.	1,500 Moon Coins
Suspicious Invitation	A lot of the newly turned vampires seem to just be getting up and walking out to the Winter Segment. The Forest of Spirits calls to the undead and then doesn't let them go! These poor souls have gone through enough -- they need rescuing.	The vampire-turned civilians still have the strength and speed of other vampires, but will likely be too captivated by the forest's ghosts to try and feed or attack unless provoked. Vampire-turned player characters may feel the pull of the forest also, but will be more resistant due to their season magic.	2,500 Moon Coins

Plow 'Em Up	The road-building efforts have gone all right, but you know what happens to roads in the Winter Segment? Snow! Help us shovel the road from the city out to the Titanic Dome.	Characters can borrow plow trucks and sand trucks if they can operate them (hopefully not ending up in a ditch in the process), but otherwise, it's good old skid steers, magic, or anything else they can think of to clear the snow... even shovelling, if they've got the patience.	500 Moon Coins

Bud the Spud	We thought we dealt with the Giant Mutant Vegetables, but apparently not. Shipping trucks to and from the farmlands are being attacked by giant potatoes! If we want to get food in to the citizens, we need to deal with this.	While most of the attacking Giant Mutant Vegetables will be potatoes, other vegetables may show up to back them up.	4,000 Moon Coins
How the Cups Stole Solstice	Flowers are supposed to be brought into town from the Spring Segment for the Solstice celebrations, but those idiots from the Cups Gang announced that they'd be "stealing Solstice" and set loose enchanted lawnmowers on the meadows. Deal with those before they mow everything down.	Enchanted Lawnmowers will mow in a pattern until they're attacked, at which point they will try to chase the person attacking them. They're about as dangerous as a regular lawnmower, so try to stay out of their path and attack from the side.	3,000 Moon Coins
It Sucks To Be You	One of those weird holes in the ground that the Darkness left is sucking people and monsters alike into it out near the Valley of Wind. We haven't been able to find a way to stop it from out here, but what if someone went inside on purpose?	The hole will suck anyone in who gets too close and drop them into a pit, where various Spring monsters that have also been sucked in will attack in an attempt to pile up enough opponents to escape.	5,000 Moon Coins

I Know, I Know	A Wind Reaper is behind the pit drawing people into it in the Spring Segment. Along with its powerful wind, this huge creature wields a blade that deals mental damage instead of physical, making those hit with it freeze with fear of death. Aside from resistance to wind and/or mind damage, the Wind Reaper's main weakness is earth magic that can deflect its wind attacks.	7,000 Moon Coins

In this event, team up in pairs in a little wooden boat and see who can catch the most fish. Peacock the Walk	Sleepeacocks have come down from trees in the Spring Segment, and our potion makers are running low on their feathers. Go and gather the tail feathers they shed, but be careful they don't put you to sleep!	Sleepeacocks are a type of peafowl known for two things: their tail feathers (which are traditionally used in potions to help people fall asleep), and their cry, which instantly puts people to sleep when they hear it. The Sleepeacock's cry can be circumvented by blocking out the sound or by using magic that keeps the user awake.	1,000 Moon Coins, Sleep Potion

Check Out the Crabs in the Bucket	The Temple of Death has a large moat right on the border, and Immortal Crabs from the Spring Segment and Killer Crabs from the Summer Segment are both fighting over it! Unfortunately, given the destruction both species tend to cause, we can't just leave them to it. Try and clear them out.	While Immortal Crabs are much sturdier, Killer Crabs are much larger and stronger, so any given fight will have a large swarm of Immortal Crabs per one Killer Crab.	2,000 Moon Coins
Go Pound Sand	The Deserter's Desert may have had its cracks filled in, but the ones in the Des(s)ert of Illusions are bigger and deeper, and Sandworms are starting to rise up and wreck shop. We need people to deal with them before they eat everything in sight! Just don't get eaten yourself.	Sandworms haven't changed much aside from location; they still try to eat people and things with their quicksand-like digestive system, and they're still weak to water.	5,000 Moon Coins
Watch Your Head	Imps are messing around in the Flaming Grassland, popping up to scare travellers and throwing things at them -- including fire and balls of flaming grass! Try and stop them before they can hurt anyone.	The Imps don't seem to mean any harm, but they don't seem to care what harm they do cause, either.	3,000 Moon Coins

Hot Coffee	There's a lot of demand for coffee and chocolate in the city recently, and we'd like help harvesting it. Fruity Bats in the Rain Jungle always congregate where coffee cherries grow! Try following them to find the good stuff.	Fruity Bats are colourful bats that love fruit, especially the cherries that coffee beans come from. They give off the smell of fruit during breaks in the rain.	1,500 Moon Coins
Up is Down is Up	The ruins in the Rain Jungle hold among their treasures some ancient spell scrolls we want to study. You won't have to go deep in to find them, but the gravity spells in there make it tough!	Various rooms in the Rain Jungle Ruins can reverse gravity. The Autumn Dragon gravity skill can reverse this for individual people, or there are mechanisms hidden in the rooms to mess with the gravity to solve puzzles and advance.	2,000 Moon Coins

Some poor soul might get a rock, another an enchanted jewel, another some loose change. It's really the luck of the draw.	Anything that resembles a medal (value and purpose up to player)
Maple Leaf Forever	Fall camping is in a boom, but Maple Mantises are attacking campsites in the Maybe It's Mapleline forest to eat their firewood. Try getting rid of them to keep the campers safe!	Maple Mantises still tend to come in threes and will attack without hesitation. They're dangerous and they're huge, which isn't great in a camping area...	3,500 Moon Coins
That Good Old Tokusatsu Quarry	Hit Sunday-morning program Starlight Warrior Sunstriker is filming its next season, and they need stunt doubles who can go out into the old rock quarry south of the Abandoned Mansion. Dress up in heroic spandex and helmets or goofy rubber monster suits and fight each other convincingly on camera so the actors can dub over you later!	A camera drone will follow the characters to film in the Segment; characters are warned not to damage it, but it will mostly stay out of range on its own.	1,000 Moon Coins

This boss only unlocks when the Maple Mantises damage an active campsite while fighting them. The fire is an ordinary fire, so it can be neutralized with magic or mundane fire suppression techniques. The quest giver may have questionable taste, but House Mushrooms are big enough and heavy enough to make a house... which means it'll be hard to haul one back to town. Find Me In the Stars	The sexy airship cruise line has a new cruise they're hiring temps for. This one is marketed as a week of debauchery flying over the scenic Spring Segment, with stops at the airship stations to resupply and a stop at the Creature-Nip Meadow to see the sights (and the aphrodisiac plants). The job involves serving food and drinks and facilitating on-board activities -- the Orgy Under the Stars on top deck is a must-do.	Due to the length of the cruise, characters will be away from the city for about a week. Of course, if they have powers or items that allow them to teleport off the airship during their breaks and back on again, that is allowed.	2,000 Moon Coins, employee uniform (glorified lingerie)
Ellympic "Wrestling"	Any TV program as big as the Ellympics will attract imitators -- if by "imitators" we mean "unofficial porn parodies." A studio in Nightwake's Red Light District is hiring for a film that asks the hard-hitting question: what if naked wrestling were an Ellympic event and points were scored by getting your opponent off?	While this is not an "official" Ellympic event, there is still a little camera drone following characters to film them.	1,000 Moon Coins, a copy of the finished movie

City Crime Quests
This questboard is on an app on the phone and is only unlockable if your character has received a (handwaved) code for it from one of the crime organizations or just criminals of Nightwake. Another way is to hack your way in if you know it exists.
You don't need mod permission to do these, just make sure you find a reasonably way for your character to get there.
Anyone can be a victim of these quests.
Should players doing these quests wish for IC consequences, they may report their character here - or just assume that NPC law enforcement characters are on a lookout for them.

Not-So-Fun Run	Let's not mince words -- every gang in this city lost a lot of people during the blackout, and a power vacuum is a dangerous thing. If you're going for those promotions, come to these coordinates to prove you can handle it.	The coordinates lead to one of the shady establishments in the Underground Mall. It's set up like one of the attractions up above, an obstacle course to clear for bragging rights... but given the location and purpose, there are legitimate death traps inside, such as spike pits, spinning blades, and a hall full of Fire Dinosaurs that chase you.	4,000 Moon Coins, more respect from the city criminals

City Quests

1) Ellympic Mecha Judo

[Mecha hand-to-hand combat? Hell, why not! It's not the first time that Hijikata's (co)piloted a mecha, so he doesn't hesitate to get in the cockpit. As he tests out the communications with his opponent, he makes some idle small talk.]

It's a pity these mechas haven't ever gotten to the point of being deployed for expeditions into the Darkness, huh? Come to think, it's been a long time since we've been sent to the borders. For all we know our enemies could be getting up to no good out there.

[Maybe for the moment, he'd better focus on getting ready for some ass-kicking - after all, this battle will be televised!]

2) Ten-Second Tidy

[500 Moon Coins for some simple tool testing? Count Hijikata in! He takes his wand to the NCPD, where clean-up efforts are still in progress, and waves it at a heap of partly molten glass shards. They promptly disappear.]

Problem solved! Damn, this was the easiest job ever.

[Not so fast!! Who's ringing his phone there (presumably not so much to complain but to ask for help with the sudden and unexpected health-and-safety hazard - after all, he is a policeman)?]

Winter Quests

3) Ellympic Snowboarding

[Hijikata hasn't really snowboarded before, but he humanboarded once (don't ask), so he feels more than ready to tackle this sporting challenge as well! As this year's almost-triple tournament winner, he can't let his fans down, can he?

When a pair of unmistakable shark fins start accompanying him and his co-competitor on their way downhill, he gives them a long, disbelieving look before calling out:]

4) Jaws for Concern

[Hijikata's strategy for this quest will depend on who his questmate is. Between harpooning the strange fish, hunting for it in the lake in animal form, or using magic to try and get it out of the water, there are many possibilities! As they stand on the lake's shore, he frowns at the cold water.]

I wonder if this is the result of another one of "the" people's experiments. Those bastards simply don't know when to quit.

5) Suspicious Invitation

[Vampires in trouble? Seeing how he himself has a vampire kid at home now, but moreso because of his death magic which may come in handy for dealing with the ghosts, Hijikata sets out to investigate. The Forest of Spirits is familiar ground to him, often having accompanied his other winter power holder boy here, and since he can finally see the ghosts again too, he walks with confidence... but not without complaints.]

How can something like this happen? There's nothing for them to eat here, and not much shelter from the sun either.

Spring Quests

6) Bud the Spud

[Giant potatoes attacking shipping trucks... okay, alright. Hijikata is here to roast them!]

This'll be a walk in the park. I mean, how bad can it be? They're potatoes!

7) How the Cups Stole Solstice

[Hijikata barely considers the Cups gang worth his time, but lawnmowers gone wild is a problem. From the back of his winged bull, he tells his questmate (whether they're seated right behind him or on their own transport):]

On my end, I'll simply zap them from above. If they're so well-built that they can withstand a short-circuiting, I'll give them an air lift to get them out of the flower fields at least! What's your plan?

8) Ellympic Fishing

[Fishing is a leisurely sport, even in a competitive setting... or so people are led to believe. Hijikata, preparing mayonnaise-coated bait in the little boat he's occupying with his questmate, has a wicked grin on his face.]

This will make them jump right into the boat in hopes for more, just watch. We'll run a risk of sinking, so many will want to get in here!

Summer Quests

9) Check Out the Crabs in the Bucket

[Having experienced first-hand how tough the killer crabs in the Lower Great Ocean Lake are to deal with, Hijikata can only imagine how bad the clashes between them and the immortal crabs must be. While he honestly feels like they could just let the crabs duke it out among themselves, his lack of success in fighting them the last time is a thorn in his side, so he strategises with his questmate near the water.]

Those goddamn crabs are so tough, not even electrocuting them in the water will reliably kill them. Physical weapons don't get through their armour. I honestly feel like we should get every summer power holder in Nightwake together and boil the whole lake with them in it!

[Way to destroy the ecosystem, Hijikata... though that radical approach could give way to a citywide crab meat feast! Alas, they're unlikely to manage to get everybody out here, so that'll remain a pipe dream.]

10) Go Pound Sand

[Sandworms are formidable enemies Hijikata's faced before, and for 5000 Moon Coins, he'll gladly do it again! That said, he warns his quest partner:]

These things will give us a run for our money. I hope you're ready for a tough battle!

11) Ellympic Beach Volleyball

[Determined to prove his great prowess in every sportive discipline there is, Hijikata enters the volleyball tournament! Given the heat, he's in his swimwear on the beach, probably like most of the other participants, muscles glistening with sweat. Naturally, he's oblivious to what drives up the viewer numbers - his eyes are on the ball! as the opposing team tries to land a point, he throws himself into the sand to prevent it...

Afterwards, he'll happily go for a dip in the Great Ocean Lake!]

Autumn Quests

12) Maple Leaf Forever

[The maple mantises are a persistent nuisance in the Mapleline forest, and Hijikata is ready to once again fight them! He advises his questmate:]

They're really not too bad. Fast, though, so don't let your guard down!

13) That Good Old Tokusatsu Quarry

[After participating in the various sporting events, Hijikata is on a roll. Being a hardened adventurer, a little bit of stunt-doubling should be fun and easy! Sporting his superhero costume alongside a fellow stuntman, he grins.]

We need to keep it toned down enough that they'll still be able to keep the show going without us afterwards. That's the real challenge here!

14) Ellympic Equestrian

[It's been a long time since Hijikata last rode his police horse Brutus, but since his bull isn't suited to the task, he borrows the stallion from the officer who now works with him. As before, the horse doesn't seem to take kindly to his cigarette odour and digs its hooves in as he tries to lead it to the event grounds.]

[ Hijikata's quest mate is a 7'2 tall man in full power armor. He has several weapons magnetically attached to said armor: assault rifle on his back, pistol on his thigh, combat knife in easy reach. He moves with easy grace, perhaps seeming more machine than human. ]

Fast isn't a problem.

[ It's not a boast: it's a quiet statement of fact delivered in a steady voice. ]

[So many big lads around recently... if this keeps up, he'll have to start shapeshifting himself taller! If this powerhouse's weapons resemble Maine's, Hijikata absolutely took notice of that, but even if they don't, he certainly feels reassured that his questmate is a capable combatant.]

Good, good. Oh, right, one more thing - we shouldn't stay in the forest too long. Over time, it turns living beings into maple creatures.

[ The assault rifle does indeed resemble the one Maine picked up during the dragon ritual. Except that this one is very real, very loaded, and yet seems to weigh practically nothing, making no impact on how the Master Chief moves.

The armor itself is heavy, too. At around 1,000 pounds, the Master Chief leaves quite a footprint! There's no sneaking with him. ]

How does it do that? Is there a vector?

A vector? Sorry, I don't know what that is. I think it's more likely that it's a curse or something.

[If he's from the same future as Maine, do those exterminator aliens set up vectors that mutate people or something? A gruesome thought!]

Ellympic Mecha Judo

This is kinda fun, huh?

[Rinku has her robot wave up at the broadcast gondola before taking her place opposite Hijikata.]

Are you really gonna do the whole Ellympics?

Yeah, why not? It'll be fun, don't you think?

[Sure, he loves going for the important high-stakes quests because they take priority (and the huge rewards don't hurt), but that doesn't mean he can't have fun in between!]

Are you sure you want to face off against me in this one, though? I'll have you know that I'm a veteran mecha pilot!

[What is he not a veteran in at this point?]

You've done everything, Hijikata-san. That just means I gotta work harder against you!

[Once they're both ready and the signal to start is given, he immediately tackles Rinku's mecha with as much force as he can muster (though it's challenging to transfer his usual ferocity into the large machine). Can he do judo? Not really! But all that matters is that he gets her mecha down on the ground, and he knows how to do that.]

[Rinku's mech skids back, trying to grapple, until she goes down. She tries to keep the momentum up to roll back and pin him, though how feasible that is...]

[You'd think vampire Katsuki would avoid the brighter segments, but he simply can't let this quest go. The idea of flowers getting mowed over for no reason pisses Katsuki off, especially since he's been living in such a flower-filled home with a boy who loved them dearly. He knew Hijikata would want to join him, so that's why the two are heading there now. Katsuki sitting behind Hijikata on his bull, looking down at the flower field below wearing a cloak with a nice big hood to keep him shaded from the sun.]

I'll see if water'll do anything to slow 'em down. Usually I'd just blow them up but... the flowers.

[He can't become just as much of a nuisance to them as the lawnmowers!!]

[Once more, Hijikata is glad that he commissioned a two-seater saddle for his mount. The bull is docile and tame with a steady flight pattern, but since Katsuki has no flight ability at his disposal at the moment, Hijikata lent him his Floating Cape for good measure, just in case an accident happens in the air - he himself can summon dragon-blessed fire wings, so he's got his own bases covered. Wearing a cape over a cloak may look like overkill, but in doubt, the boy will thank him later!

Hearing Katsuki's plan, his cocky smile turns into a smirk.]

You know what, Katsuki-kun? I think we'll be able to combine our powers to great effect here. I'll lift the damn things up, you'll bubble them in water, and then I'll fry them with lightning. How about it?

[boombam]

[Thank god for Hijikata's Floating Cape, honestly. It's pretty bogus that he can't at least float, as a vampire. Aren't they supposed to be bats?! At least he has this cape to help keep him safe... Katsuki's pretty reckless, so he could very easily have a mid-air accident--]

Sounds great!

[Katsuki replies energetically, grinning wide at the idea of combining their power to fry the hell out of them.]

That stupid gang'll think twice about messing with the flowers once we're done with their mowers!

[He is so ready to go kick some ass that he's practically vibrating out of his seat as the bull gets closer to the scene.]

[On approach, they can hear the lawnmowers' characteristic noise, amplified by their number - Hijikata counts a half-dozen of them, erratically driving through the blooming meadows and shredding the flowers. Grabbing a telekinetic hold of moving targets is a little tricky compared to stationary ones, but he wants to show off in front of Katsuki, so he manages to snatch two up at once, lifting them up into the air and holding them as steady as they can. His bull gets nervous at the roaring machines, so he tries to assure it.]

Steady, Shirobeko! They won't hurt you, I promise.

Since the bull can't hover and needs to keep flying, Hijikata turns in the saddle and makes the lawnmowers trail behind them. This really requires some focus...]

Can you get them like this, Katsuki-kun?

11- ellympic beach volleyball

{ being able to take part in a tournament like this is actually something that feels more natural than any job he could have taken in the city. generally, outside of his job as an exorcist he really does just have a college lifestyle. play some sports, work out, y'know... those kinds of things.

he's dressed for the event too, sunglasses on his face, bright colourful swim shorts on and a loose open shirt to cover his shoulders and back from the sun.

as hijikata throws himself into the sand to prevent it though, ezra won't dive for the ball as well. instead, he gets himself into position, fully ready to do the second tap if it doesn't go over right away. }

You've got it!

{ as soon as the tap into the air comes he'll be running and jumping to tap it up further, aiming to try and arch it over their opponent. }

[And sure enough, he gives the ball that second tap! He's satisfied to see Ezra move in for the attack, and despite the opposing team's valiant effort to intercept it, it hits the sand on their side of the net.]

Nice!!

[Ezra appears to have acclimatised well as a relatively recent arrival, but then Hijikata already got that impression when he dragged him through the entire Gigaman Simulator the other month.]

{ with the feedback, ezra quickly turns to hijikata with his hand raised, expecting a high five. }

[Ezra may objectively be the better person to deliver the attack, being 4'' taller, but that kind of thing has never stopped Hijikata before - and once Ezra serves him the ball, he does score them another point. At this rate, they're going to make a dent in the opposing team's fighting spirit if nothing else!]

{ it's fine, as much as height plays a crucial part for volleyball, part of it is jumping power. granted ezra does spend a lot of his time essentially doing parkour to reach demons so maybe he has more jumping power too but he's a team player. both of them can score as well as defend or set! it's all good.

hijikata will at least find it was an easy ball to slam. ezra is big into sports and while team games can be harder to set up--he's clearly well versed and has lots of experienced in them. }

Nice one. At this rate we'll wipe the floor with them.

{ he made a mistake in keeping his shirt on though, which after that round of diving and bumping the ball he'll tug that off, throwing it off to the side. his cool points probably go down when he almost sends his sunglasses flying but at least most people will probably be distracted by the massive wing tattoos on his back along with his right shoulder as well. his left arm has always been visible but there's a lot more now. }

( Annie, who's tinkering with the settings of some of her controls, grunts as he talks to her. )

Always assume they're testing the barriers.

( Not like it's something she'd know about. Not at all.

Once she sees the readings she's hoping for, Annie closes the extra interface and brings her attention to the ring they're standing opposite to each other across. )

This isn't my hand to hand style. All this grappling?

( Literal nightmare for Annie. She sighs. )

Hey. Can you throw me a few times? Or slam me, whatever the style this is supposed to be would do. I want to test what changes they've made to the shock absorption in this unit.

( Annie this is a competition. This is a competition, and admittedly, she just doesn't care. She's new to piloting, and while she's been remarkably intuitive, she's not seeing the point of wrestling each other for people's viewing privileges. Testing the mecha systems? Fine. She can pretend she knows a grappling martial art to do that. )

[Hijikata knows Annie - not personally, but from stories he's heard and memories he's witnessed in dreams and illusions. He's seen her titan, and he thinks she resembles it (probably for the better, he doesn't say that out loud). As soon as he heard who his opponent in this challenge would be, he braced himself for a tough fight.

The surprise, as such, isn't that she's ready to throw down, but that she seems to be familiar with the mechas - much more so than him, who participated in the intense beta testing years ago. She can't have been here (back here, though he never met her the first time around) for long, so he concludes that she must have been involved in the project during her previous stay.]

You've been working with these things? Nobody told me that.

[Why does he think he should have been given a heads-up... regardless, he complies, moving in and grabbing her mecha with his. From a previous round, he's learned that the dynamics don't translate 1:1 from human to mecha, so he makes sure to build up enough momentum by swinging Annie's mecha around before slamming it to the ground.]

( His statement strikes her as nonsensical, unless he's usually updated on what all the Warriors are doing? )

Who'd even know to want to tell?

( Probably some hazy group of Scouts and... well, mostly Scouts. Frieda is an outlier and should not be counted. The Warriors (or Warrior Candidates, given when Gabi was there) are a different sort of outlier and she's not sure are all that bosom buddy with Hijikata in the first place.

Besides, she's literally been working in this: learning how to fall in mecha. This is, apparently, an understudied area, because when she first mentioned it being run through how to pilot the mecha at the hanger, the blank looks she'd gotten were enough to have her staring blankly in return.

Which is to say, aside from bringing her mecha's arms up to mirror something of the positioning she might use in a different martial art, she doesn't resist being thrown. The forces of movement aren't too strong, given the lack of excessive momentum (her concept of this being thoroughly skewed), but the mecha actually bounces when slammed to the ground. Internally, she figures this was fairly well handled, but the restraints holding her in place are close to bruising. Definitely needs some better thought. Further shock absorption within the cockpit? Some kind of crash protection? )

Exactly how often do you figure these would be used for grappling out in the Segments?

( Conversational as she sees if there's targeted boosting that can help her mecha roll both of them over. )

[Hey now, he and Reiner have totally become bosom buddies lately! They faced a huge-ass demon together to save Jean just the other month; that sort of experience binds you together! It's been an incredible journey from when Hijikata hit Reiner with an "I know what you've done" type of welcome when they first met.

Even so, Reiner doesn't actually keep him updated on what he and the other Warriors get up to, so that's totally moot.]

Honestly? Depends on the Segment. There are some huge monsters-- whoa!

[The mechas heavily roll over each other, and he tries to keep the momentum going to avoid being pinned down.]

Hey, the show isn't on yet, is it?

[They're still in the pre-fight testing phase... right?]

( It's okay, Annie doesn't even keep Reiner fully updated, because he's a bit... overbearing in a way she's not currently feeling. Unlike the Mecha, which is overwhelming in a way she can at least bend herself to learning. Vehicles of whatever kinds don't talk back without onboard intelligence systems that these models simply don't have. )

By the time you're grappling with something that large, you've lost part of any advantage.

( He does keep the momentum going, though she does her part to buck up (judo does not, Annie, but then again Annie does not do judo), to see if she can at least disrupt his mecha's hold on hers. )

How concerned do you think they are with that over the dramatics?

( The drones buzzing around and lack of anyone calling foul seems to back up her point. (Her point is she's got her own agenda, and it has nothing to do with the Ellympic Games.) )
