[A - Cleaning up] (WINTER GUILD)
[Honestly? To be really, truly honest? Chipp's not here for spring cleaning.
He's only here for one thing - free stuff. The guild leaders had promised as much, saying they were giving out adventuring gear... so, far be it from him not to go and collect everything he can.
However, he's found himself cleaning anyway. ... Just not in the traditional sense.
But it's something that's a little hard to do on his own, so at some point, he grabs the nearest person with those metal claws of his.]
Hey. Think you can help me with somethin'? I can't tell ya too much what it is, sensitive info 'n all... don't wanna step on the guild leaders' toes, sayin' too much.
But I ain't gonna be able to hold it all by myself, me. Only got the two arms, 'n I need'em free for this.
[... Sounds ominous, considering literally everyone else is, you know, cleaning.]
[B - A helping hand]
[Stumbling in the dark? Unable to see? At risk from injury just due to running into things?
Scared? Alone? Uncertain?
None of these apply to Chipp. However, if they apply to someone else that he spots while walking through the darkened city, he's going to stop, take this person's hand, and press something into their palm -
Specifically, it's a Pokeball.]
Here. You can leave'im at Miyata Clinic after this all over.
He got fire moves, he glows, he'll keep ya safe.
His name's Clem.
[Even if Chipp doesn't know this person at all, he will still do this for them. Anyone who looks frightened, anyone who looks unable to help themself amongst this darkness... they're being blessed with one (1) Crocalor, who will watch over this person like a hawk.
Or... like a crocodile, in this case.]
... He likes oranges, if you wanna thank'im after this shit blows over.
[C - Collectathon] (cw: implied death/violence)
[Oh, this is rich. This is rich!
Something that's been on Chipp's mind, lately, has been an urge - one that he's been struggling harder and harder, day by day, to keep in. It's not an urge he's been proud of, but it's one he's dealt with all the same...
The urge to maim. To kill.
He felt this urge even during his first go around in Ellipsa, though he did his level best to keep that urge to himself. To not frighten the people he's met. To keep his loved ones safe.
But since returning, learning what he's had, dealing with so much heartbreak... it's like the world's been chipping away at the tiny, little jar where he's locked these urges up, just asking him to snap.
And today's the day!
The gangs, after all, have fucked up more than perhaps anyone in modern Ellipsan history - in their plans to cause a mess and chaos, under cover of darkness, they released all of Ellipsa's criminals onto the public... it was like dumping chum in the water and not expecting sharks to come eating.
It doesn't take long for him to figure out the jail's bracelet system. White bracelets meant the criminal was harmless, maybe a brat at most. Green was harmless, too - petty criminals, thieves, the like. Blue... could be talked down, for the most part, and it's impossible to say what crimes they've committed; it's easier to pretend they're as harmless as the rest, turn them into the police where he can.
But red?
As far as Chipp is concerned, red bracelets are targets.
Thankfully... no one will be wandering in on his activities. No risk of someone stumbling onto something they shouldn't see.
But there's a non-zero chance that someone will get to see the aftermath:
Chipp, spattered with blood, spinning a red bracelet around a metal claw as he approaches - the expression on his screen is just the big, empty eye, fuzzing out with static, as if his helmet can't parse what he's feeling in the slightest.]
... You seen anyone wearin' a bracelet like this?
I'm... collectin'em.
[So far, he has two. The one in his claws, which he's holding out to show whoever he's approached, and one that he's clipped to his belt.]
[D - Late night slasher] (closed to Bakugou)
[Speaking of criminals, blood, and sharks flooding the waters to eat -
There is a point where Chipp has managed to sniff out another red bracelet among the chaos... this one a bit more of a coward than the others he's found, but a red bracelet nonetheless. It means they're dangerous - they're a dangerous criminal, someone who'd been locked up for crimes that Chipp considers abhorrent, and that's all he needs to try and turn this man into nothing but a fine, red paste.
At some point, however, this man manages to scramble out of Chipp's range and absolutely book it down the sidewalk, nearly tripping over himself to get away as the Grim Reaper patiently walks behind him - Chipp knows there's no way this guy won't end up falling over, passing out, becoming an easy target once more... so he knows there's no need to rush, to run after him. To waste his own energy.
But this means there's ample space between them when the criminal turns a corner into an alleyway - "stupid," Chipp can't help but laugh to himself - disappearing into the darkness of it altogether.
...
And then there's a scream, as if something had been waiting in that alleyway for food to come running into the darkness and that red-bracelet made the perfect meal. The Grim Reaper, himself, takes that as a reason to run, speeding down the sidewalk and skidding as he turns the corner to see just what the hell happened to his target -
Only to lock eyes with a teenager at the back of the alleyway, hunched over the now unconscious criminal and dripping with blood.
He has no words for what he's found. Just straightens up, that screen of his cutting with static for a second as he draws his hatchet off of his belt, and levels Bakugou a look.]
[E - The end?]
[... Of course, in all of Chipp's limitless wisdom (read: stupid idiocy), he's forgotten about one teensy tiny, itty bitty, wee little fact:
He literally needs light to live.
That's how his magic is made, after all. When light hits an object, certain frequencies of it bounce off of it, which is the means with which people see color - and his body absorbs that reflected light, as well, converting it to magic outright.
Without enough light, his body won't get enough to make anymore of that magic. Even just a dimly lit room could be bad for him.
All he needs to do is breathe to burn through it. He is built entirely out of magic, after all - without it, he'll simply "unravel", falling apart into inert ashes that easily blow away in the wind.
And there's no way he wouldn't meet his limit, pushing himself as hard as he has.
At this point, if anyone manages to find him... they wouldn't be blamed for assuming he's dead outright.
So close to being out of magic as he is, he's fallen unconscious, slumped against a building... and, as he's always been, he's completely without a pulse. That screen of his, usually bright and lively and glowing, is dark - and his prosthetic, usually burning with magic itself, is powerless, disconnected. The forearm lays a little bit away, as if someone kicked it like a can while passing by.
It's fine, though... it's fine. Even if he ends up in the Flower Yard... he's already reasoned with himself that unraveling would be okay, at this point. He managed to grab four of those red bracelets. That's enough for him.
Even if he unravels, at least he managed that.]

Just like yourself.
To be a Grim Reaper, you gotta die first.
[And there's... hundreds of thousands of them! Hundreds of thousands of Grim Reapers.
A plane full of people who have all died, usually in terrible, brutal ways.]
... Thought you'd picked up on that, back at Moondrop. It weren't like I was tryin' to hide it -
Wasn't tryin' to say it outright... but not hide it, either.
mental breakdowns were not on the cards but here we are SDGKSDGK
not. this. }
I... { he's choked up, doesn't know what to do with himself. there are still plenty of people running around in the chaos, they don't really have the time for him to falter like this.
and once again he can't help but feel that sinking feeling. if god is real, why do people have to suffer like this? }
I'm sorry.
{ what else can he even say? this is why he wants the red bracelets? is it revenge? something else?
what's the point of even being given these blessings, if people still have to suffer when they've passed? }

[There's... always something weird, hearing someone get like this. Chipp tells someone that he's dead, that he died, and they get all quiet - all soft and watery with their voice sounding thick.
It's not really something he understands. Not just thanks to his struggles with emotions, but just...
Even though he died, he's clearly pretty happy with his life. His afterlife, as it were.
He's not even really sure what to do with a reaction like this... all he can do is tilt his head a little, those antennae on top of his helmet flopping to the side.]
You... you ain't gotta say sorry or nothin'. It ain't no big deal -
'M happier now than I was when I was alive, anyhow.
no subject
chipp says he's happier now than when he was alive--but he clearly remembers how he died. he asked the question, didn't he? guess how he died. }
Stop it. 'No big deal', of course it is. If you're going around doing this--how was it nothing?!
{ if chipp hadn't noticed, he's an emotional wildfire. the anger isn't even really aimed at chipp himself. it's at the world. at god, if he actually fucking exists.
there's a lot there he hasn't shared as well. the amount of bodies he saw as their lives were drained away over and over. his own body growing weaker as beelzebub drained him almost dry. sometimes he was there as his demon body, but there were times he wore a human face. for the amount of times people don't help each other, does it really separate them? ignorance can be as catastrophic as pulling the trigger yourself, can't it? }
What am I supposed to do with this? { he bites down on his lip } I don't want to fight you.
{ unfortunately the church teaches people that redemption is possible. that some people can change, no matter what sins they've committed. so... what is he supposed to do with this? }
no subject
Unfortunately, all of that just earns a bark of a laugh out of the big guy, and he ends up shaking his head... with that screen splitting into fangs again.
But this time, they stay.]
Goin' 'round doin' "this"? Ain't like I only picked it up as a hobby after I died!
I did this whole time I was alive, too!
Folks back home don't call me the Devil for nothin', hun!
[That. That is the title he's felt he's earned.
Being a Grim Reaper is one thing... everyone back in his world is a Grim Reaper. Or, at least, everyone back on the same plane of existence.
It isn't a fancy title; it's just what they call themselves, like referring to oneself as a human. They're not just Grim Reapers - they're "Reaperkind".
But the Devil?
That's him and him alone.]
... You ain't gotta fight me, y'know. You ain't gotta make a mess -
I don't wanna fight you, neither. Don't wanna see you end up in the Flower Yard.
But if you make me do it, I will.
are we going to need someone to break these dummies up sdkjgn
they're probably the worst words chipp could say right now if he's really trying to avoid a fight. }
How are you any better... if you do the same as them?
{ maybe it's naivety, but fighting violence with violence is never the answer. ezra isn't exactly foolish enough to think there's no chance he'll end up in the flower yard, but maybe--just maybe--with so many otherworlders here who can immobilise criminals if he can hold off chipp long enough they can be rounded back up. maybe some of them will have a second chance to do better. not hurt people again. }
But you aren't leaving me with much choice. I may not believe in God, but I believe in making the place a better place by teaching others to be a better version of themselves. To do what's right. Killing people who hurt others--that doesn't fix anything.
{ his hand clenches at his side, and while he may have stuck to camael's chains with dealing with criminals he knows that won't be enough here. so a prayer starts forming on his tongue, sacred words to summon gabriel's power instead. }
Unworthy as I am, I beseech you without cease. To surround us with your intercession and cover us beneath the glory of your wings. I bend my knee and cry without perseverance. Deliver me from danger--O Prince of The Powers of High! { so far it may have just sounded like the ramblings of a madman, but as his voice gets louder, channelled by that anger and frustration the wind around him seems to pick up. } Archangel Gabriel! Your blessing, I beg of you.
{ light emits from his back, glowing through the fabric of his shirt before it rips clean, tearing a path that a single large wing of golden light emerges from. ezra's hands are practically shaking, wanting to shake chipp until he comes to his senses. to shake the world.
he'll finally raise his eyes to look at him again, and while they glow with that same light they seem to burn at the same time. }
I'm sorry.
{ his moments aren't really human anymore, surging forward with the aim to subdue chipp. it may be his own downfall in this fight because he really doesn't want to inflict pain either, but if he can stall--maybe even stop him he'll do what he can.
he doesn't have any demon in him after all. he can't understand the want to take another life for the hell of it or even revenge. }
its ok ive got like all of chipp's cr on speed dial--
It's those blessings - like those chains had been. But going straight for Gabriel's powers...
On the one hand, he's flattered Ezra's worried he'd need something that strong for little ol' him!
On the other, it means Chipp is going to take him twice as seriously.
His own internal battery's already low... without a bright enough light to help him recharge on magic, just breathing is enough for Chipp to start running out. But... he feels like it'd almost be an insult to just use his Seasonal magic on Ezra, here.
So as the exorcist summons up the powers of Gabriel, Chipp summons up some powers of his own - holding his metal claws out to the side so he has the space to create Spin Jockey, grabbing it by the neck and preparing himself.
Not to block or anything. He's honestly not even sure if he could block; he's never seen Ezra fight before. So instead his plan is to leap out of the way, using his strength to propel himself high enough to land on a darkened streetlamp above the both of them, slinging that gigantic tombstone-banjo over his shoulder like it's nothing more than a club.]
Save your apologies for someone who deserves'em, frère - we both know they empty, anyway!
[Over his shoulder, Spin Jockey's already shifting into a form Chipp usually saves for opponents he considers particularly powerful - part of it flipping and turning so it can start up that spinning it's named for, the buzzsaw-like whirring loud enough to be heard from below.
Hopefully Ezra's dodging is on point, because it's obvious what comes next; without wasting even a moment, the Reaper's leaping back off that streetlamp with his Weapon aimed at Ezra below him.
Mostly. Mostly aimed at him.
Fighting someone who's still human, someone who's clearly a good person, Chipp would much rather give warning blows than go right for it - and if it misses, the way Spin Jockey slices into the pavement like it's butter probably makes it clear why.]
#everythingisfine
he doesn't even know about what will come later.
the wing flaps as soon as chipp moves to jump up to atop the streetlight. he's propelled backwards, and even if it's only the one wing he's still able to have some flight to it. he won't risk going up high, but it isn't exactly useless. }
No. I really am... that it's come to this.
{ his left hand will press towards the ground, the right reaching to start pulling the chain from it, his arm lighting up this time as chains spring forth. his shirt there is already torn so it can't damage it more, but he may as well have got rid of it by this point.
as soon as chipp aims to strike down he's propelling himself forward, running faster than a regular person could. the whole movement from chipp is pretty predictable at least so he can tell when he'll strike down. his foot slams down to the ground, pushing hard and with another flap he's twisting in the air, chain swinging forward to wrap around the streetlight. between that and the propelling from flapping his wing he's essentially flying towards him, past him, until he can essentially 'land' on the streetlight sideways on. the metal creaks from the motion, the post bending just slightly from the pressure.
he doesn't have time to think about how powerful that blow would have been if he hadn't been faster. he doesn't have time to think, really, as he grits his teeth and this time when the wing flaps feathers go flying from it like blades towards chipp's back. }
no subject
But fortunately (or unfortunately) he can guess an attack's about to come from behind, giving him a chance to send out a thick wall of crackling, violet plasma to deflect what he can.
He just... wasn't expecting those deflections to be that destructive, watching with wide eyes as feathers hit the pavement with full-on explosions.
So that's the power of a true angel, huh?
Spin Jockey's capabilities as a Weapon are gonna have to be shelved, then; if he wants a chance to keep up with the other and his attacks, riding on top of it is the best choice he could make.
The spinning blade gets jammed into the ground as Chipp hops onto it, spinning to face Ezra with the motion before zipping backward to put space between the two of them -
Only to slash his claws up through the air, the motion pulling metal from the pipes under the road to fly at Ezra like daggers.
... He doesn't even notice the way his screen's started to flicker, as if it's running out of power.]
no subject
having two archangel's backing is a rarity though. one that has entitled him to the title prodigy amongst some of the top people at the church.
and it's the second archangel chipp will get a chance to witness now those pipes come flying towards him faster than he can move. instead, he grits his teeth and: } Barachiel, your blessing-!
{ luckily he doesn't really need the words other than to strengthen his conviction when using the powers of the blessings. a shield of light forms on his arm as he holds it up, crouching to protect himself. even from the distance the large symbol, Enchonian letter in the middle of it, will be very clear.
on impact it shatters like glass. ezra ducks, the wing curling around himself to protect him from the rest. }
Shit.
{ the ground at this point is a mess, his arm and leg is likely covered in cuts from what it couldn't protect. at least by making himself smaller it isn't too bad. sabriel's blessing will heal it soon enough.
and he's ran with worse. literally.
the impact kicked up dirt and dust from the ground around him so it likely gives him some seconds to pull himself together, to pick himself up off the floor. one step. another step. and then he's speeding up again, putting everything into this last rush. his own manna will wear out if he keeps this up, he doesn't have an infinite supply either.
after so many steps he kicks into the ground, this time he does fly up, fully intending to use himself like a missile instead this time. }
Please be enough.
{ this time the prayer isn't to any of his patrons, it's to himself, as camael's chain flies through the air, whips down towards chipp fully intending to wrap around him. if it does manage to grab him at all, he'll use that as an extra push as he propels himself down.
fist first.
if he misses, it'll likely break his arm with the impact it'll make with the ground. but he really doesn't want to do more when it comes down to it than knock the guy out. he knows if he uses the wing itself he could accidentally slice him in two.
he doesn't want that on his own conscience either. }
1/2;
It's a split second that makes something in Chipp's chest squeeze tight at the thought, something unconscious clawing at his gut, little flames of guilt already trying to lick up at the back of his mind -
And it's the perfect split second for those chains to whiz toward him like that, wrapping around him without any issue at all. Chipp may be strong... but he isn't fast in the least; the moment he registers the restraints, he has no way to dodge.
He doesn't bother trying to fight the restraints, though. No struggling.
Instead, he looks up at Ezra...
... And grins?
Or, he tries to - the screen of his keeps cutting out entirely, even as it does its best to keep its fangs bright and bared.]
Bad fuckin' plan, Ezra!
[The chains are strong, powerful enough to keep him in one spot as the other careens toward him, but you know what else those chains are?
A closed circuit. Ezra may as well have grabbed a powerline, wrapping up a technomancer like Chipp in a chain that connects to his own arm -
The powerful blast of electricity he sends shooting up it should almost be expected at this point.]
2/2; oops
And not only that... it's Chipp's own last hurrah, too, using up what's left of his internal magic storage to let loose a blast so large.
A desperate last ditch effort, just to say "I may not win, but that doesn't mean you can't lose."
The punch connects - or maybe it's Ezra, himself, that crashes into Chipp, considering what he'd just been put through - and it seems like he's dented that helmet of his entirely.
But... in spite of it all, it doesn't seem like Chipp's unconscious - knocking out a Grim Reaper is difficult, their forms just made to claw and scrape and tear at anything that can keep them going, leading to fights between them almost always ending in death.
Chipp has been torn limb from limb more times than he can count, purely because he wouldn't go down otherwise.
... And yet he slumps over regardless, letting out a pathetic little "fuck" under his breath as his screen goes dark. The floating half of his prosthetic clatters out from under his cloak, the usual glowing light in its palm completely absent.]
o o p s
unfortunately, ezra is also a reckless idiot willing to kill himself for this apparently.
his consciousness flickers, barely able to hold on. but conviction is a funny thing, even if he's losing consciousness from the electricity that just blasted him, gabriel's power doesn't seem to fade just yet.
and he really does crash down harder than chipp probably expects. it may not be fist first anymore, more his feet as he loses posture on the fall down. he crashes into him hard, the impact throwing him off to the side, gabriel and camael's light fading as he lands face down on the floor out cold.
smoke is probably coming off him from the electricity that he's been zapped with, hair completely a mess.
with the wing gone, there's a gaping hole in what is left of his shirt, showing two large black wings tattooed onto his back with gabriel's name dead centre between them.
but he doesn't move again. }
these two are stupid and i love them, your honor
So that's it, huh?
After all that, the two of them are a broken heap in the middle of a ruined street.
Together making a complete and utter mess, one that's caused so much more damage than any of it was worth.
In the back of his mind, somewhere, Chipp's grateful he managed to... at least sort of break Ezra's fall, at the very least.
And now that Ezra's completely out cold - and he, himself, is too tired to do little more than breathe - that's when he finally concedes. As far as he's concerned, this really was Ezra's victory.
He did exactly what he'd hoped to do, stopping a mindless killer in his tracks in order to protect the mortals still running free in the city.
It's with that thought in mind that Chipp does his best to do just one more thing, moving to grab onto his cloak in his fist...
So he can toss it over Ezra, moving to wrap his arm around him to match. Protectively.
He's still human, after all. There are still vampires running around.
And Ezra could probably use what little touch magic they can generate, if only to stay alive - maybe even heal - after all of that.]
they are so stupid and i love them too your honor... also wraps this up
there will be a faint glow on the patches of skin that burned from the electric shocks. the cuts across his body. if chipp can actually see, it will probably be obvious what is happening. unfortunately it also means the skin hit by that but with clothing attached may heal to it but he can worry about that later.
he'll need time to recover and wake up again, but it isn't like a regular human would. }
ties a nice lil bow on top
And so he'll do everything he can to keep the other safe, using every little bit of energy he's got left...
... And whenever Ezra comes to, it'll be under the heavy weight of that cloak, the helmet laying broken and discarded... and all by himself, there in the middle of the street.
See you in three days, buddy.]
