There is no reason to feel envy; Levi has always loved him just as much, even if at this point he has mourned him as long as he had known him. It's still a shame, of course, just like most things about their world, just like each of them ending up in a position they perhaps would not have chosen for themselves under different circumstances.

But it is what it is.
