[Closed Log] Time to wake up

Waking up
Wherever Shadow and Sonic passed out that’s not where they woke up. The pair woke up in their own house, in their own bed even. Whoever had put them there had even positioned them so they were holding hands. The bedroom door was open along the window being opened a crack to make sure that there was a constant flow of fresh air. There were even two bottles of water and breakfast bars on the bedside table.

Clearly someone had both taken care of the hedgehogs and taken the effort to make sure the room was comfortable. They had even made sure that the hedgehogs could immediately eat and drink if they woke up hungry. The question was...who?

|Nightmare
Super had been spending a lot of time looking after Sonic and Shadow. He didn’t know why but when he had seen them passed out on the ground he almost panicked. He knew the sensible thing to do would be to take them to the research centre but the thought of leaving them in what was basically a lab felt wrong. Maybe it was because he knew this Sonic and probably Shadow also fought a Robotnik, what if Sonic woke up in a lab like building would lead to them thinking they had been captured when they first woke up?

Super shook his head trying to clear it. Well if there was a chance that could happen then he should just take them back home so they could wake up in a place they knew was safe right? Easy enough.

Okay, so maybe he had underestimated how much work it would take to look after two sleeping hedgehogs but if the reseach center were correct, and Super really hoped they were. The pair would be waking up tomorrow, and so Super made himself comfortable on the couch and tried to sleep. His Jellycat, Napper, curling up on the arm, maybe he’d get a full night’s sleep this time.

Five ours later Super woke up to the sound of his own screaming before he fell off the couch.

“Ow…”

Super may have stuffed Sonic and Shadow into bed so they were holding hands all cutesy like, but by the time Sonic starts to wake up, he's curled into a ball mooshed up against Shadow and is hogging most of the blanket.

He stirs just a bit, but he's still too lost in sleep to register any of this as weird. He's in his bed, Shadow's here, nothing weird here!

Shadow had moved in his sleep as well. He curled inward toward Sonic. The blue hedgehog was stealing all the warmth and he was trying to get some back. He stirred in his sleep and was the first to open his eyes. Wait. He was home. He hadn't fallen asleep here in the simulation. He looked down at Sonic and gently shook him.

"Wake up. Did you bring me here?"

Sonic grumbles incoherently when Shadow shakes him, finally cracking an eye open and glancing around before pulling the blanket over his head and trying to go back to sleep.

And then about three seconds later he sits bolt upright, having finally realized that everything was weird. He takes a frantic look around the room before turning his attention back to Shadow.

"No, I-- I don't know how I got here either!"

At least Sonic was definitely still Sonic. Shadow nodded, despite the outburst, and looked around. Someone had left them food and water, the window open, and the door open too. They weren't being held captive in their own place. He took a bottle of water and took a drink. He was parched. He then held it out to Sonic.

"Whoever it was, wanted us alive and safe enough. They might still be around. Best we go looking."

Sonic's already hopped out of bed and was getting ready to zip out the door, but he stops short when Shadow holds the water out to him. Suddenly realizing that his mouth is dry as a bone, he accepts the bottle and takes a long drink before handing it back.

"Thanks, and yeah, good idea. This is all super weird."

"Indeed," Shadow took another long drink himself and grabbed some of the bars. Two each. He moved up to his feet and moved after Sonic.

"Let's search and see if they are still here."

Well the good news is that they wouldn't have to search for long, since it's right about then that Super starts screaming from another room. Startled, Sonic nearly jumps out of his skin, but tries immediately to play it cool because he can't let himself look too uncool in front of anyone ok.

"Oh, no way. I've seen horror movies that start like this, this is the part where an evil hillbilly breaks down the door with a chainsaw for sure!"

"You've faced the Doctor's giant mechanical creations. I am certain you could handle evil hillbilly with a chainsaw."

Shadow rolled his eyes and mumbled. "Whatever a hillbilly is." He headed toward the source of the screaming.

"Sounds like someone doesn't watch enough cheesy horror flicks. I'm gonna have to remedy that."

Sonic follows close behind Shadow, one hundred percent planning to host a horror movie night some time. You only have yourself to blame, Shadow.

"Very well. We can watch horror movies for a date," Shadow said as they walked toward the noise. Shadow would not be scared. At least Sonic can cling to him. So Shadow may be to blame but Sonic will pay the price.

Ha ha joke's on Shadow, Sonic's inviting EVRYONE HE KNOWS over for horror movie night! If Shadow's a good sport about it, he'll get his spooky movie date too, obviously.

Heeeeere's Sonic, popping into the living room looking very much like he's ready for a fight, but chilling out immediately when he sees that there's no actual threat in the room. At least as far as he can tell. What he does see is is pointy, golden buddy, having apparently just fallen off the damn couch.

"Supe'? You all right, bud?"

Shadow followed quickly into the living room. No threats found. Just a golden hedgehog on the floor. He folded his arms and tilted his head slightly.

"Was it you who put us in bed?" He asked. Right to the point as Sonic covered asking if the golden hedgehog was alright.

Napper had jumped off the couch and was butting his head against Supers side when Sonic and Shadow walked in.

"Huh? You're awake!" Super looked up surprised to hear other voices. He quickly got to his feet when he saw who it was. "Uh, yeah I'm okay....sorry for yelling. Are you two okay? Because yeah I'm the one who put you in bed, I didn't really know what else to do, and its been days."

"Days!? That explains why my bladder feels like it's about to explode!!"

Look there's a lot of important stuff going on, Sonic knows this, but also he's just woken up from the weirdest coma ever and he needs to pee so bad. He vanishes from the doorway to go take care of that. Carry on kids, he'll be right back.

Days. That explained the thirst, the hunger, and, as Sonic so eloquently put it, the need to use the restroom. Shadow could wait. He nodded to the golden hedgehog.

"Seems somehow we ended up in the simulation. You took care of us and we are both grateful. I'm believe we're fine. Nothing food and water can't fix. What of you? Are you alright?"

Super got to his feet, trying not to laugh of course needs like that would need to be taken care of but seeing him dash off like that was still funny.

"Me? I'm fine." Super answers as if he doesn't now why Shadow asked. "Just a but tired."

Napper rubbed himself against Super's legs as the hedgehog kept talking.

"And a lot of people got sucked in from interacting with their phones I think?" He explained. "The reserch center was even giving out glasses to try and stop it happening once they realised what was going on."

"You know how old people always say that phones and stuff are gonna rot your brain? Maybe they're onto something after all."

It doesn't take Sonic too long to return, because he's fast at everything (don't think too hard about it). He strolls back in, pulling his gloves back on after washing his hands.

Then he turns to Super, casually crossing his arms. "What were you screamin' about? Was there a bug?"

The golden hedgehog didn't scream because he was harmed. He nodded when Sonic asked why he was screaming then. That was the question. The discussion on if phones were rotting brains could wait until later. Especially since that was not the case as Super had just stated it was due to the experiment being done by the research center.

"How did you know I'm sc-" Super suddenly realised what he was admitting and cut himself off, picking up his jellycat as if that would distract from the false start. "I mean no, no there wasn't a bug, or a spider. I was asleep and...well.... that just tends to be how I wake up more often than not."

"Especially when I got something on my mind and, well, I was worried about you two."

"Oh." Bro that's actually a little concerning? Waking up screaming isn't like, the best sign.

Sonic glances at Shadow with a hint of concern on his face, but it's gone by the time he turns back to Super.

"Sorry to make you worry that much, bud. Do you... wanna talk about it, or anything?"

"Screaming is not how most people awaken from sleep," Shadow stated a little bluntly. He met Sonic's eyes when the blue hedgehog looked at him. He nodded to Super when they both looked back at the yellow hedgehog.

"We will listen if you want to talk about it. If not, that is your choice."

"I know it's not exactly normal." Super admitted looking between the two of them. "But it's not like I do anything about it, I don't even remember what the nightmares are about."

Super rubbed the back of his neck. "It's not usually an issue thanks to the sound proofing all the bedrooms in this place usually have."

Super the noise is not the main concern here.

Yeah bro that's not what Sonic's complaining about!!

"Hmm. I guess not remembering what they're even about would make talking about it tricky. Could be some subconscious thing, like you brain trying to remember whatever it is you forgot?"

He's not a brain doctor, but that's about the best idea he has right now.

"That is actually a possible theory. Or a traumatic event attempting to replay and emerge from your lack of memories in your sleep. It could be either of these two things. Or neither. Someone who can see your dreams or read your mind may be able to assist. Having restless sleep is not good for you in the long run," Shadow explained.

Seriously, Super. The noise levels were hardly the real concern here.

"Yeah, Lucifer suggested that yesterday actually... the dream thing I mean. He said some people can jump into them? But mind reading is probably safer." Super admitted in response to Shadow's suggestion. "I'm sacred if someone jumps in there the might get hurt since, well the one thing about the dreams is something reaching for me just before I wake up."

Super sat down on the couch and Napper instantly tried to jump up to his lap

"Which is why, while I think you're right about it being some kind of memory, Sonic. I really hope it's not."

"Huh. I mean, we were just getting stuck in other people's dreams. I don't remember even being able to interact with it, so if someone were to jump into yours, they'd probably be fine."

Assuming it worked the same way? He has no idea, he's not a dream wizard.

"Sonic has a point. I do not know how the powers work exactly. It is an Autumn seasonal power. You would need to find someone in the Autumn court to go into your dreams or someone with the ability to read minds from their own world to help," Shadow nodded.

"Either way, you would need to invite someone to do that. And I would not recommend just anyone. Someone you trust."

"Heh, shame you guys aren't autumns then. I'm not sure if I know any autums come to think of it." Super shook his head, nudged his jellycat off his lap and on to the couch. So he could stand up. "But that can wait, you guys just got up we should be making sure you're okay after being out of it so long. Do you need dinner? I can cook."

Well he can not burn the kitchen down that counts right?

"...Come to think of it, I am kinda starving. I bet Shadow is too, yeah?" He asks, glancing briefly in Shadow's direction for confirmation. "You don't gotta cook by yourself, though. We can help! I feel like I need to be on my feet right now anyway."

"Food does sound like a good idea. We can all cook together. What should we make?" Shadow asked as he headed for the kitchen. With the three of them working together, it should go quickly. Shadow also needed to move and stretch his legs.

"I guess we should make something big if you're both that hungry." Super said thoughtfully as he followed Shadow and Sonic into the kitchen.

"Burgers or Hotdogs would really hit the spot right now.... but that's not really a breakfast food." Super headed for the fridge to see what they had to work with. "We could do a full cooked breakfast instead Sausage, bacon, beans, fried tomatoes, egg...well you guys can have egg I'd rather not."

"What do you guys usually have for breakfast?"

"Fun fact, I usually accidentally skip it? I could thrash some eggs though, I'm not gonna let Eggman ruin those for me the same way he did carnivals."

You can't build a death trap out of breakfast okay.

Speaking of eggs, Sonic grabs a carton out of the fridge and sets it on the counter before turning to Super with kind of a weird look, "beans? For breakfast?"

"I usually just eat coffee beans," Shadow admitted. The idea of beans for breakfast wasn't out of the ordinary for him. At least, the coffee beans he was thinking of.

"Eggs would be fine. I have not tried fried tomatoes before. We should have some in the refrigerator as well," Shadow nodded and grabbed out the bacon, sausage, and tomatoes.

Super chuckles a little at the look on Sonic's face.

"What? You've never heard of beans on toast?" Super asked as he walked to look the tomates Shadow said was there.

And then the first part of what Shadow said register and he gave give Shadow the same look Sonic had been giving Super. "You eat coffee for breakfast?"

"Why am I surrounded by bean weirdos?"

Is Sonic the only normal hedgehog here, what is even happening. Ugh its fine he's just going to busy himself with food prep and leave you weirdos to your BEANS.

"I do, yes. Why? You put them on toast. You just said so yourself," Shadow said. Clearly not getting the difference between the two different beans.

"I don't have coffee beans on toast."

Super just looked between the two hedgehogs utterly confused.

"Have neither of you ever heard of baked beans? In sauce? Usually comes out of a tin?" He eventually asked. "Heinz 57 varieties? Any of this ringing any bells?"

"I don't know who Heinz is, but he sounds like a madman. Baked beans on toast sounds like something I'd eat if I forgot to buy groceries for a month and all I had left was a can of beans and some stale bread!"

Tangent out of the way, he gives Super a little shrug.

"It sounds weird, but heck, I'll try anything once."

"If you bake them, then put them in sauce, does that not make them soggy?" Shadow asked, clearly not fully understanding.

"I also have not met this Heinz. But I will try as well. See how they measure up to coffee beans."

"What? No they're fine in sauce. I can't believe-" Super sighs. He's sorry he even mentioned beans you maniacs. "Look you guys are hungry now so lets just make food with what we've got here and then I can make you a full cooked breakfast some other time. Sonic what did you find so far?"

"Now barbecue baked beans, that's where it's at."

Sorry man, Sonic's still on beans. At Super's prompting though, he resumes grabbing things to cook.

"We got eggs, bacon, couple potatoes, I think this is pancake mix? We have syrup, we could do pancakes too."

"Very well. Though I wonder why they call it a full breakfast. Hm. Seems like an odd name," Shadow said with a shrug.

"Pancakes, bacon, eggs, and we can fry the potatoes. That should be enough food for us all."
