Eren thinks of arguing. Why suffer if you don't have to? But he's been unable to heal before, some psychosomatic block against it, some way of punishing himself. He doesn't project that onto Hakkai, but he accepts that there are reasons someone might not want a healer's assistance.
He looks out at the clouds again, but his gaze drifts downwards. He can't say it doesn't annoy him, the weakness of others.
No. Not weakness. He has plenty of that himself. He can't stand people who are content to stay in a cage, oblivious to the horrors of the world. He's never been able to stand it.
"They don't," he says. "I dunno if they even try. We're trapped in this place, you know? The barrier keeps whatever the fuck it is out, but it keeps us in, too."
This is the first time he's voiced this aloud, but how could he not think it? Everywhere he's ever been is a cage. Thinking this place is any different would be lying to himself.
But this is a cage he would choose, if he had a choice, rather than going home — even rather than going back to Folkmore. People he love are here, and he doesn't want to leave them.
