Hopefully, Erwin never needs to go to such lengths as having to defend himself with a sword again, but Levi does read the meaning before the gesture. It's Jean's love language, more or less, and he'd been putting in the extra effort to make something personal for each of them. Honestly, Levi is quite tickled that he'd forged a sword for Erwin, as well; he'd known the Commander for maybe a few months at best. And he'd even made sure he can use it in his condition; that's considerate as fuck.
