You may have solved a related conundrum I was struggling with as well.
Despite my immortality... I do not have an infinite memory. Considering what else I worry about, outliving those I befriend...

I am fated to forget every single person that I meet.

But somehow, writing things down did not cross my mind. Perhaps because Everhood lacked such written records, beyond what Brown Mage kept in their small tower.
