Eren's unaware of the way Reiner looks at him for a moment. He's oblivious even at the best of times unless he's completely keyed in (see also: his complete misjudge of that raindrop thing). He looks back in time to catch Reiner looking at him, right here in the kitchen like no one can see. Does he not care if they see?
Shit, does Eren care if they see? He's not actually sure for a second, but then…actually, he doesn't. Whatever weird time shit there is between them, whether they should be enemies or not, it doesn't matter. He told Reiner more than once that crap at home doesn't matter (he's half-lying, because some of it will always matter, but his point is still there). Should something like them, matter? Is there a them, outside of alleyways and dark rooms? More questions he can't possibly answer.
He's staring back, half-absorbing Reiner's words about other Pokemon, hands stilled in the water around the last teacup.
"Eats sunlight," he repeats. Doesn't Levi's cat do some shit like that with light? It might be a coincidence, the way the lights seem to get sucked out of a room, but it's definitely happened more than once.
He manages to fully catch up to the conversation one conspicuous beat too late, their eyes meeting again before he can look at anything else.
He shrugs. "You didn't ask," he says, which is a cop out and he knows it. "Anyway, I thought you might fight with Levi or Hange and I don't wanna be part of that." As if he isn't a part of it. As if he's somehow separate from them. As if they aren't still Scouts (they are, but Eren doesn't deserve it, so he figures he's not because he's stupid and can't read context clues off other people). As if he wouldn't immediately get in the middle of a fight whether he "wanted" to be there or not.
"You can invite me now," he says, and though he obviously doesn't mean this immediate second he would absolutely take the out. Would that cause a headache for pretty much everyone in this room, especially since they're still freezing? Maybe, but like he cares.
