Eren is almost relieved when Reiner brings him that teacup to wash. He knows it's an excuse, but it's a reasonable one. He takes the cup with sudsy hands. They have a dishwasher, but he's doing this by hand today to keep busy. (It took them awhile to even figure the dishwasher out, whoops.)
He finds himself glancing sideways, hands paused in the warm water. Reiner is so close, but they're both still cold. He can't feel the telltale titan heat right now. He still wonders how he ever missed it, how they were so unaware of each other. Were they ever this close then, other than Reiner helping Eren off and on during training? His memories jumble together and he's not sure anymore. He doubts Reiner's memory would be any clearer.
He shrugs and pulls his gaze back to the dishes. He's running out of them, just a couple teacups left, so he moves a little slower.
"You get used to it," he says. "It sounds like a lot but it's not really that bad."
All of that is true, but objectively, it is a lot. Eren hasn't actually forgotten that first time Levi had them cleaning up, scrubbing every corner they could to be free of dust and cobwebs and all of it. Eventually, he'd gotten sick of doing things over and over, so he learned to just do it to Levi's standards the first time.
"We got a robot thing to clean the floor," he says, as if that makes anything better. Also that robot thing has mostly been on the walls today, but that seems normal.
