The fire bird is not at all happy to have been disturbed with that jet of water and sends a burst of fire at them in retaliation. Nen's quick to throw up a thick wall of water to block it, but it boils almost immediately, steam hissing angrily as their powers collide.
Even from where they're standing, Nen can feel the heat and throws up their arms of reflex as it washes over them. They've just barely got time to block another burst by the time Ayato's burst hits and drops the temperature around them by several degrees. It startles them, but it's the fire bird's angry shriek that holds their attention.
Another blast comes their way and this time they throw up an even thicker wall, waiting to make sure it holds before they answer. ]
