They are just words... but the words are spoken by a person, because they care about you and want you to know what you mean to them.
That doesn't mean that you have to draw that meaning from the words. Just because someone intends to cause a certain reaction with what they say, it's not some mandate that you agree. For me personally, I care about the intent most of the time. A person's words are imperfect, but what's behind those words matters to me. It might not matter to you, and that's fine.
To say it's just words is sort of like saying a kiss is just a press of lips or a battle is just weapons clashing or death is just the cessation of a heartbeat. Yes that's all true, yet they're also far more than that... but they mean something different to everyone, so whatever they mean to you is more than fair.
