WHO: Kaveh, Shigeru, & YOU.
WHAT: Paint & Pour.
WHEN: April 2nd.
WHERE: Spring Segment, Prism Lake
WARNINGS: Drunk Painting.

[ kaveh decided to set up the paint & pour on the shores of prism lake, because a beautiful landscape seemed like something that artists of all skill level could enjoy creating. not to mention, it's also something that probably wouldn't suffer too much if/when guests inevitably started getting tispy. ]

[ there are three canopy tents framing the lake and, unsurprisingly, the first of which has all manner of art supplies: canvases, easels, and paints. the second has an assortment of delicious snacks made by shigeru and the third, final, and likely most anticipated has the wine. there are at least a dozen bottles, each labeled with the segment and shop it came from, because kaveh absolutely went around with the intention of helping them promote their business. ]

[ it's not a complete lie!
everybody wins!! ]

( ooc; feel free to assume that your character received an invitation from either kaveh or shigeru. it IS open to the public though, so if your character is strolling by and so much as makes eye contact with either of them, then they'll likely get dragged into the fun. anyway! bring your own top level~! )

[ Her brother is to her rescue once again! Holding both his hands, she feels a surge of warmth flow through her. She wonders if that is the case for him as well?

This world truly is magical. ]

{ holding her hands and feeling that warmth definitely helps a little though, even if he's worried that he'll say something that will give her the wrong impression.

it's hard to know how to say this without it feeling like he isn't doing that though. }

Here we go.

{ he'll hold on tightly, pulling her up. if her knees buckle or she starts to tumble down again he'll be ready. this time once she's seated on the couch he'll ask her to wait in place, intending to get them both new glasses of water first.

he may not feel anywhere as tipsy as she does, but he does know the effects alcohol can have if not properly hydrated too. }

[ 'u' oh, yes. she almost forgot she asked him something.

But is must be important! Especially because Ayato is getting back to her now. Thank goodness she didn't completely forget.

She grabs one of the throw pillows and cradles it close to her chest as she relaxes and waits for Ayato to come back. ]

{ when he returns he has a tray in his hands with both glasses of water but also a small bowl of flavoured crackers. it's likely both of them may need something else after the pizza earlier, so it should be something easy to nibble on between conversation. he sets out her water on a coaster in front of her, doing the same for himself.

his movements are deliberately very slow, even though he'll start talking while setting this out. }

I asked about Cloud earlier, due to something that has happened here recently.

{ and then he takes a seat, taking one of the small crackers to eat between thoughts. ayaka may need to be patient with him through this, because even when he finishes eating the cracker his hand is still near his mouth, ensuring he chooses his words oh so carefully. }

And I haven't... been certain of how to process it.

[ Oh! This is not about her relationship, then. Ayaka had just been interpreting things on a surface level, somehow not considering at all that Ayato was trying to figure something out for himself by asking about her own experiences.

One that has his mind boggled, it seems, if he is not sure how to go about it. ]

May I ask what happened?

{ he can't go into detail of it, that's for sure, so it's a matter of wording it that gives her enough for feedback without overloading her. }

Hmm. { his eyes shift up towards the ceiling before closing, thankfully enough time has passed by now that he's had days to mull this over already. somehow, it still doesn't feel like an adequate amount of time though. }

Perhaps the simplest way is to say that I had never really considered pursuing anything romantically either, { his eyes open again, but he isn't looking at her, instead staring at the table. } as my duties are first and foremost in my mind. I want to ensure stability for our family above everything else, so I always knew that when the time came I would do what was best for that, but... { but. the one word weighs heavily between them. he even sighs, drawing in a deep breath. } But someone I care deeply about expressed interest, and I have to admit... I'm at a bit of a loss.

We are already doing well, aren't we?

[ Ayato made sure of that. And he's sacrificed so many things already to protect their family and to bring honour back to their name.

As for what Ayato means about doing what is best when the time comes... it is both a gift and a curse— this lineage, the power and responsibility that comes with it. Ayaka could never consider this a bad thing, but at this time, hearing Ayato's thoughts... she wishes he was free. ]

And what happened in the past will not happen again.

[ She highly doubts it will. Inazuma in itself seems more stable now, though perhaps this is because all she sees are what's on the surface. ]

We are already doing well currently, yes.

{ she isn't wrong. they've had even more stability now that the vision hunt decree and the sakoku decree as well. but he's aware of the whispers and talk of the kujou and hiiragi clans had done lately, thankfully crisis was averted but it had enough people talking about it. }

And I wish I could reassure you that is the case. While I have confidence in my abilities, many are lying in wait for me to make any mistake. My being selfish in this instance could very well cost us.

Is what you want really that grave of a mistake?

[ Ayaka really can only speak from experience. What her entire family has experienced from a grave mistake that had happened many years ago. It took them years to get past that, to get the Kamisato Clan standing back again just like how it does now...

Nothing could possibly be as worse as that... can it? ]

How could it negatively affect the Her Excellency, or Inazuma?

If anything, I doubt we'd be where we are today without their aid, but I don't think Her Excellency or people of Inazuma would recognise that in this instance.

I do not believe it to be entirely true. What I have learned after the events of the Sakoku Decree is that we are all changing, and we have learned to accept, to forgive, and to welcome others.

[ Inazuma may not be perfect, but they are all still serving the Raiden Shogun, aren't they? Even though they themselves played a big part in the resistance. ]

There's... simply no delicate way to say this, but what I'm proposing would not be the norm and-- { his fingers tighten on his glass, eyes lowered to it until he forces himself to look towards her. } --it would require either asking you to take the burden of continuing our lineage, or perhaps I'd have to accept the scandals of finding a mistress. { the second part is an attempt to find some humour in it all.

but this time, he'll end it by being more direct. }

I'm talking about another man, Ayaka.

[ This must not have been easy to say. Ayaka's not quite sure how to... process all this, but there is nothing she wants more than her brother's happiness. It is at the forefront of her thoughts at this time, listening to him speak and try to reason with her.

At her core, she does not really see anything wrong. Is it surprising? Yes, because Ayaka herself never really pictured her brother with anyone. He'd just been so busy! But knowing more about her brother now, it fills her with this feeling of... fulfilment. She is learning more about him, and her brother trusts her enough to share this with her.

She does not know what words of comfort to give her brother at this time. But perhaps it may not be comfort Ayato seeks. Moving closer to him to take his hand, easing him to let go of the glass first so she can lace their fingers together, she offers him a small smile. ]

[ If it is what you are feeling, Ayato— if it is love—then you must take the opportunity, otherwise, you will be filled with so much pain your heart that it would fill the sea and the sky, until there is no place else for it to go. ]

{ he isn't sure how to process all this either, and he partly blames the alcohol in his system for caving and talking to her about it to begin with. sadly, the one person he likely would have turned to is the one he can't in this instance, because he didn't want to burden her with this.

he lets her peel the glass away from his hand, holding it with the other before he leans to place it on the table. when it's out of the way he'll give her hand a gentle squeeze, even if hearing those words makes it almost harder to deny.

he doesn't think there's ever been a moment he hasn't been certain of his love for either of them, ayaka and thoma both have been his pillars and reason for fighting as hard as he does. but this is a different form of it that threatens the status quo to either make it soar or come crashing down for all of them.

he'll be sad if he doesn't pursue it, yes, but the alternative if it goes wrong?

that may end him, and he knows it.

but putting that concern into words is harder than he thinks, if only because he already thinks he's said too much. }

I'll-- { and his voice cracks, a sign of how hard this has been for him so far. it's been long enough already. } --bear that in mind. { his thumb trails over the back of her hand, taking comfort from the warmth of it. }

I'm sorry for burdening you with this, Ayaka. I'd hoped that I could come to a conclusion on my own, nor do I have anyone else to talk to.

[ Ayaka closes her eyes as she shakes her head, her ribbons and her hair swaying with her. Ayato could never burden him with anything. Whatever is passed onto her, it is something she takes wholeheartedly and with great honour. Anything to lessen what it is that ails her brother, because he should be supported in everything that he does. ]

There is nothing to apologise for... We are family.

[ They're supposed to be able to talk to one another. If Ayaka can't tell Ayato anything, when he's the only one she has left for family, it just wouldn't make sense. It hurts her heart too much to think of that possibility.

What hurts her now is the situation her brother is in. She cannot help, nor can she just outright say be selfish, because Ayato does bring up valid points. It is what she would like to say, because she would like him to be happy too, and she doesn't see anything wrong with the idea of pursuing his interests. In fact, she is happy for Ayato, that there is someone for him. Perhaps... she should get the opinion of someone more knowing. If the Raiden Shogun is here, or even Yae Miko... maybe they might be able to strengthen her belief that the people of Inazuma are changing. That her brother's happiness won't mean his own destruction.

When she opens her eyes to look at their hands, tears flow down and drop on them.

She lets out a little sniff. ]

{ for the most part, he would talk to her, but things like this that weigh more heavily he's definitely avoided it in the past. but now, for this matter, he has no where else to turn. and days of not sleeping are extending, mind caught up in the what ifs.

of course, it isn't an issue here. but then what if they return home and one of them doesn't remember while the other does? what if they were targeted for it? what if it's used against them in some other way?

he has to think through all the possible scenarios first, and all of them seem to lead to despair if he lets them.

he's brought out of his own thoughts when he feels a drop of wetness on his hand, eyes turning back to look at ayaka as she cries. it twists something inside of him, his own face looking apologetic and pained for causing this too.

his other hand reaches out, a gloved thumb gently sweeping to catch the tears before they fall. }

Please, don't cry.

[ But if you won't cry, Ayato, then who will?

Telling her not to cry only makes her sniff harder. Ayaka has always been the more emotional of the two siblings, but she also understands that she can't always be little Ayaka, crying all the time... ]

I do not like this situation you find yourself in.

[ Just... lays it on there honestly, no sugarcoating anything. Ayaka has always been honest, after all. More importantly, she wishes she could do something about it. ]

I do not, most of all, wish for you to be troubled.

{ tears doesn't get anything done, nor does he have time for them. so she's incredibly on point that he hasn't cried for himself this entire time. instead he's tried focusing on ways to make this work without causing more issues.

but even he's feeling the tiredness of being so trapped now. }

For now, I may just have to count my blessings, { he gives her a smile, trying to be reassuring, but ayaka can probably see it doesn't reach his eyes. } and just treasure the moments I do have with them. I'll figure something out in the meantime.

[ She's the one who should be doing the reassuring in this instance... She hopes being able to listen to him at least helps. ]

May I ask who it is?

[ This person must be so special... And it must be someone from home, no? Ah— hang on...

She wipes away her tears with the back of her other hand and looks at her brother. Giving his hand a squeeze, she make a guess. ]

Is it Thoma?

{ when the questions come it feels like his heart is pounding so loudly his ears ring. the way his eyes shift away from her is answer enough before he actually uses words. }

It is. { it's all she gets for a moment before he sighs out. } Now you can see why I need to handle this delicately.

{ to his credit, he doesn't seem to be flustered or embarrassed about her knowing, if anything it probably only further proves how important it is to him that he figures this out in the safest way possible. }

[ ... At least Ayaka needn't question if this person will be loyal to her brother or not. If they are a good fit or not. She may not want to size up the object of Ayato's affections the way he would Cloud, but her chest feels lighter knowing this. It means that coming up with a solution and having everyone happy in the end seems a lot easier.

And if they fail, even much more difficult.

But it is Ayaka who looks on the brighter side of things. A smile is put on her face as she rubs the side of Ayato's hand with her thumb, still not letting go of their joined hands. ]

How did he let his feelings known?

{ while the previous questions didn't cause any reason for a reaction, this does. if ayaka is watching carefully she will notice the slightest flush of his skin as the question elicits memories he should not be having here right now.

[ A little too quickly, she pulls her hand away, as if she'd just touched something hot. It flies to cover her mouth when she gasps, and in the end, she apologises. ]

[ She was hoping for a romantic story!! But she does not mind it in the slightest if Ayato would prefer to keep it to himself. Something like this? It is special. And if Ayato does not truly know what to do yet, then perhaps they should not talk about it any further if his heart is in disarray. ]

{ as much as she may have been hoping for one, it is not a romantic story.

perhaps once he's figured this out and found a way to move forward it can be. for now though...

he'll just be apologetic. }

There's no need for you to apologise, after all, I already asked you questions about how you and Cloud came to be together. { he'll reach out for his water again, focusing on that. } Unfortunately, this is just a story I shouldn't be sharing with my dearest sister. { how to say it without saying it. }
