Saya is on the trail of a vampire -- no, she listens and finds that it's several. She hates these invaders, who attack for blood, who will make people recoil from her when they learn her heritage because what if she's like them? Too many times she's had to explain herself to someone who is either horrified or scared, and it's because of these creatures.

Saya sings her song of compulsion, which will cause the vampires to be stunned for at least a moment (she's unhappy that the older vampires can shrug it off in so short a time, but the younger ones it works nicely on). She doesn't realize that this will also stun Katsuki, because all she can register with her hearing is that there's a vampire there--

--Until she appears in the alleyway, seeming to teleport since one moment the area was empty and the next there's a vampire queen with glowing red eyes, a fierce scowl, and a bright katana there, and she's pissed.

Her song stops abruptly when she sees Katsuki there, because she can hear his slow heartbeat. She remembers the broken concrete, and a thousand things click in her mind.

No. She's too late.

As her eyes burn with grief and rage, she grabs one of the vampires and holds it up by its throat, hissing at it in a way that exudes dominance. These things can't hurt a vampire-born queen.

They probably can hurt Katsuki, and they already have. So she holds it there, dangling in the air with its legs kicking, and looks to Katsuki with red eyes that seem to burn.

"They're all yours." She'll hold this one while Katsuki kills the other, and then she'll toss this one at his feet.

[When there's the sound of a song being sung through the alley, Katsuki freezes in place. Not because of the sound catching his attention, but rather his body has stopped in place on it's own. In reaction to the sound. Katsuki starts to feel panic settle in his bones as he tries to fight against it to no avail... until it suddenly stops.

He looks at the end of the alley towards where he heard the song, and sees Saya there with a sword, her eyes glowing a bright red just like his own were. And it clicks in that moment that she must be a vampire, herself. Though he has it in his mind that she must've been turned, like he was. He sees the rage in her eyes and relates it to his own. And he understands that she's now there to help.

He uses his speed to close the gap between him and the confused vampire he'd been chasing. The vampire was just recovering from the singing itself and was confused about why there were suddenly two more vampires in the area. So he takes this moment of distraction to close that gap, and grabs onto it's head.

BOOM!

A burst of blood and skull, and then the vampire slumps down to the ground. Headless. Katsuki's never killed another living thing quite like this before, and he finds that it feels... good. Really good. But it wasn't enough to satisfy this bloodthirsty revenge that Katsuki wants. He wants to kill every last one of them.

So he's quick to snuff out the vampire that Saya tosses at his feet. A wide, malicious grin on his face as he stomps on it's head with all the force of his new powers. Crushing it underneath his heel. Brains and blood sticking to the sole of his shoe.]

There ain't enough vampire corpses on the street. Wanna find some more with me? I'll let you kill the next one.

[He's filled with so much rage, at the moment. All that's on his mind is death and destruction for evil creatures that deserve it.]

As bound up in rage is Katsuki is, when Saya watches him kill the vampires she only thinks: good. Two less creatures to bite and hurt and turn the citizens of this city.

She inclines her head at Katsuki, her glowing eyes looking him over. "Yes. In a second." She won't be able to sing if she's fighting with Katsuki, but that's fine. She can kill these things in her sleep. She has two centuries of practice.

"You were turned?" she asks, her head inclining in a way that would seem almost casual but for how furious she is. It's evident that her anger is not at Katsuki, but what's left of the creatures at his feet, as she glares down at them and scowls.

[At Saya's question, Katsuki can just feel the anger coming off of her. He knows she's not mad at him, her eyes are glued to the bodies of the dead vampires at Katsuki's feet. And he really doesn't blame her for her anger, either. Both of them could blow the whole town up out of pure rage, right now.]

...yeah. Yesterday.

[For good measure, Katsuki stomps on the brains that are left as if that vampire was the one who had turned him. It wasn't but he didn't care. He'd treat all of them like dog shit stuck to his shoe.]

The fucking amputee thought it was a great idea to go out in the dark, all alone, to try and prove that he's a big boy and can take care of himself! Like a moron!

[He kicks the body as hard as he can, sending it into the wall of one of the surrounding buildings. There's just nothing that can calm him down, it seems.]

And look at what that got him!

-- Right. His arm.

Saya spends another useless second being fucking enraged, before forcing herself calm. Rage means mistakes, and she can't afford any of those. Though she doesn't blame Katsuki for how he's feeling.

She can look after him, though. Make sure he doesn't do anything he'd truly regret. He's new at this, and bloodthirst tends to be up when you're using your energy fighting.

She flicks her sword to get most of the blood off.

"Don't be so hard on yourself. You were trying to help. Doing what a hero should do."

Her head inclines as if she's thinking. "There are two -- no, three -- headed towards us. I'll back you up."

No singing since it'll effect Katsuki too, but she isn't worried. These things are no match for a queen, especially one with a fucking grudge.

She lifts her gleaming katana, more than ready. Let them come, thinking they have the advantage.

[Saya's words feel a little hollow, and Katsuki scoffs at them. "Doing what a Hero should do"... like going out when you're still healing from a surgery and unable to really fight? Just to be useless and get attacked?

Yeah. SO Heroic of him.

He, of course, keeps that internal dialogue to himself. Not wanting to damper Saya's attempt at comfort. What's really comforting, right now, was the mention of three more vampires coming their way. It gets another grin to spread on his face and Katsuki starts activating his Quirk. Building sweat up in his palm for a concentrated attack.]

I'll burn a hole right through their hearts! I dunno if that'll kill 'em, but it'll sure as hell feel good!

[He does just as he announced the moment the three of them run into view. Blasting a directed beam through an "o" that he makes with his pointer and thumb. Usually, he'd use his right hand to shoot through the "o" made by his left for more accuracy, but he's learned how to do it with one hand by closing it like a fist to concentrate the blast through the only opening.

Adapt and overcome.]

She shrugs anything but casually. "It should. Hearts or heads, that's usually the way." Thankfully. Saya had to kill her own kind with direct blood to blood contact, this is much easier.

When the three vampires dash into the mouth of the alley, Saya moves. But saying "Saya moves" is like saying that the universe is vast. She vanishes from sight, appearing just behind one of the vampires that Katsuki's blast didn't catch, and a second later its head falls from his shoulders. She moves even faster than the vampires do; the prerogatives of being a queen.

She turns, sword flashing, waiting to see if Katsuki has the other two or if she needs to step in and hold one of them. He deserves to take this out on the creatures that turned him.

[Katsuki manages to kill one of the vampires with his technique, but the second ends up getting just his arm blown off while the third was missed entirely. Saya takes care of the straggler, at least. So Katsuki focuses only on the one that's left alive. The one currently crying in pain at it's right arm being blown right off.]

Yeah, that sucks? Don't it?

[He taunts the vampire as he walks up to it slowly with his hand crackling with a pompom explosion. The vampire gets to it's feet and tries to make a run for it, but Katsuki's faster. He runs past the creature, turns around, and then reaches forward and explodes his chest open. Blasting through his heart, and blowing the head right off at the same time. Inflicting wounds that he's suffered himself, sadistically enjoying how satisfying it felt it to see someone else in the same pain that he's been in.

Well... the head was overkill.

But unlike the criminals that Katsuki drinks from, he doesn't care about killing these inhuman things. He doesn't view them as anything but creatures of the night. Of "things" that need to be removed. Animals that will kill everyone he cares about if he lets them roam the night.]

Saya has complicated feelings about all of this, none of which show on her face. These vampires need to be killed, yes, and clearly they're good at it, but what will be the result after everything is restored to normal? (Assuming it can be.) Will people recoil from her the way they've done so often?

Will Katsuki share that same fate?

She'll have to unpack it later, there's a scream nearby and Saya nods to Katsuki before dashing off at a speed he'll at least be able to follow, but knowing now how fast he can move, she doesn't hold much back.

"Those things are all over the place. We have plenty of work to do." She'll have to address the turning later on. Trust and believe, she's coming back to it.

[Katsuki can only hope that people are understanding... but he wouldn't blame anyone if they cast him aside for what he was, now. He felt like casting himself aside, anyway. He hated everything about what he was becoming-- about the blood all over his clothes. The brain matter still stuck to his shoe.

None of it matters, though. Not when there's the scream of someone who needs help, and more vampires to kill. Katsuki digs his heels into the ground, and then runs after Saya with a burst of speed. He feels excited, at least, to be fighting side by side with another vampire. Someone who understands him, and what he was going through. Though Saya seemed like she was way more acquainted with her vampire powers than Katsuki was... maybe she picks up on these things faster than he does?

Either way, he's right behind her. Eager to kill the first creature he sees.]

Eventually he'll learn that Saya would never cast him aside for this. She did that in the past, and never again. She won't blame him for his feelings about the change either, no matter how they hurt. She still struggles to accept herself, how could she judge him for it?

What they both have in common now, other than being vampires, is an urge to hunt and destroy those how threaten this city. Saya makes sure that Katsuki is following as she dashes through the streets in a blur of flaring eyes and silence. She stops outside an alley where a group of vampires has someone cornered, probably smelling the fear on this poor native.

Saya leaps at the first one, circling it in an impossibly fast flurry of movement, her katana flashing as she strikes. The things head falls from its shoulders and she's on to the next.

[It'll take Katsuki a while for him to accept anything about his new identity. For him to accept that it's okay to be a vampire, and that people will welcome him with open arms. It doesn't make sense to him when he feels like he's so different, now. So evil. But it will make sense... eventually.

For now, he'll focus on trying his best to balance being a Hero and being a bloodthirsty monster. It's a line that's been crossed many times already, and it's one that's also pretty blurry. And this was a good moment for him to toe that line. Saving a citizen from becoming a snack for a species he holds such a grudge against, while making sure he doesn't go overboard. He needs to make sure he doesn't scare them while he fights.

So the first thing Katsuki does is run as quick as he can to the victim, to plant himself firmly between them and the vampires left. Saya takes out one easily and goes for a second, so Katsuki focuses on a different one. He waits until they get close, and then using his Winter powers he summons a whip of water that he uses to slice cleanly through the vampire's neck. It's something he's been working on recently, and he gets this proud little smile on his face when the monster's body slumps to the ground. It worked!!!]

Saya will do her best to help him make sense of this. She's had to do it so many times herself, every time her memories reset. Every time she went from hopeful to devastated, learning that she wasn't human and that she was the only key to winning a war for the fate of humanity.

The third vampire dares to try and bite her, so Saya grabs the thing by the jaw and pushes it against the wall of the alley.

"What, exactly, do you take me for?" she demands of the vampire, who struggles beneath her grip. The absolute insult of thinking it could bite her.

She puts her sword through its heart and it slumps to the ground. Saya flicks her sword to get the foul blood off, then inclines her head like she's listening for something.

"Do you hear them?" Heartbeats of people and vampires both, thundering with fear and exhilaration repectively.

[Katsuki watches Saya take out that vampire, who dares to try to make her it's meal, and it has him even more sure that she must have been turned too. Why else would she have such a clear hatred for these things? They must've turned her when she had her guard down, and now she was suffering just as he. Grieving the humanity that was ripped away from them so cruelly. So quickly.

When asked if he hears "them", Katsuki is quiet and listens. He hadn't had a chance to sit still and focus on the sounds around him. Too distracted by the rage and pain he felt in his barely beating heart. But now that he's quiet, and is focusing hard, he can hear... other beating hearts. Beating both quick and slow, the difference between a living being and one that should be dead as a doornail.]

...heartbeats?

[He double checks that this is what Saya is referencing.]

A terse nod. "Heartbeats. You'll be able to tell the difference between them and other beings. With practice you'll be able to sense them down to their number and even individual people. Heartbeats are like fingerprints."

She clearly has a whole lot of experience with this.

"Let's go." That's all before she dashes off at a speed he can follow, towards a small group of vampires that seems to be stalking a group of natives. Halfway there she casually leaps up to the rooftops without missing a step, since that's where the vampires are sneaking around, seeking prey.

[Katsuki follows after her easily enough, until Saya suddenly leaps onto the top of a roof like it was nothing. It leaves Katsuki staring at her from below, mouth open in awe for a couple of seconds before he shakes his head. He can do that too.. right?? Right!!

He takes in a deep breath, backs up, and then runs and jumps as he saw Saya do. The super strength gives him the push he needs to jump almost high enough to land on the roof on his feet. But he's just a little short, and ends up landing on his stomach. He starts to slide off the roof, so he uses his claws to dig into the tiles and help him scramble up to the top. And then he's quick on his feet, and joins Saya like he was just as graceful as her and didn't completely eat shit two seconds ago.

Thankfully, somehow his little misstep wasn't picked up on by any of the other vampires around. So the two are able to sneak up on the sneaking monsters. And even though Katsuki's never been good with espionage (always too loud with either his explosions or his voice), he keeps himself silent and calm as he comes up behind another vampire and uses his Winter powers again to slice it's head clean off. Quickly and silently.]
