Something Old, Something New

Part 1
March 21st

Nightwake is buzzing with excitement. The Dragon Lord, Opallios, has sent a proxy to Nightwake. This young dragon is an ivory colored, medium sized dragon, perfect for mingling with regular people. After a meeting with the guild leaders, the dragon addresses everyone with a booming voice, almost like it's coming from loudspeakers throughout the city.

"Otherworlders", he says. "My name is Einnainth and I'm here on the behalf of the Dragon Lord. You have been invited to the Abandoned Castle by Lord Opallios. We have worked hard to repurpose the place into sanctuary for all dragons and power holders. There, you may participate in a ritual to unlock completely new powers with our help. If you wish to hear details, I will be at the Solarpeak Beach."

The same message is also send to each device, just in case someone missed the announcement.

Those who come to meet Einnainth can see him enjoying affectionate pets from the local children. He will be explain that it was finally time to entrust ancient power holder magic to the otherworlders, as well as the four guild leaders. Dragons have always been the guardians of the powers so it was their duty to pass it on when the time was right.

He also requests to get some supplies for the castle, such as wood and stone, if they're able to spare them. They still have a lot of work to be done in the castle. While they can fix most things with magic, just conjuring materials from thin air is very taxing.

Part 2
(March 22nd onwards)

New teleport crystals have been installed near the Abandoned Castle. All of the four guilds have counterparts for quick travel. Of course otherworlders are allowed to travel to the castle however they want. The crystals lead to a gazebo; those arriving from the summer and spring guilds end up near the summer side entrance, while autumn and winter arrive at the autumn side. It doesn't matter which side someone ends up in, as both entrances lead into the same area.

Those who have visited the Abandoned Castle before can notice a huge change. The walls that separated the two sides before have been knocked down. The only thing separating them is the way they're decorated and their general architecture: summer side is made more of stone and has no furniture or decorations left, while the autumn side has warm, wooden tones and plenty of dusty furniture and decorations in autumn colors.

Dragons have brought in plenty of moss and other soft natural materials for people to sit on. Their own sleeping quarters are in the rooms or outside on the roof. Peeking into them will reveal some of them have started hoarding different things in the middle of their rooms. Leaving them something they collect will result in the dragon becoming their friend.

There's plenty of time to socialize with the dragons before the main event begins. Plenty of berries, vegetables and fruit have been gathered for anyone to eat. Some dragons even have meat and fish.

Part 3

Once everyone is gathered and settled down, Opallios makes an appearance. He's larger than most of the dragons present, white with gold accents. Many might remember him from the Frozen Falls.

"Welcome, everyone. We have gathered you here to help you unlock ancient abilities that we have been safekeeping. These powers are more difficult to master and some of them are even dangerous. However, we have full fate in you, hence why we are ready to pass the powers back into your hands."

He explains that the ritual will happen in special mindscapes, shaped by their minds. It will done in pairs and there's no rush. They can work on the unlocking as long as they need. No one has to do this right now either, as the dragons will remain here and help them anytime they want.

After that, he conjures very old-looking parchments from the air for everyone. They have a list of abilities they're about to unlock, written by the people of old.

Between the Truths and Lies

Part 1

The ritual to unlock the powers starts off simple. There are several small fires in the main room set up. Otherworlders are tasked with finding a partner and then sitting with them by one of them. However, the dragons warn that the more familiar the partner they choose is, the more dangerous the ritual would be. It's better to pick someone who they aren't so deeply bonded with for this.

Once the pair has settled down, one of the dragons approaches them. Next step is to hold hands or otherwise form a physical contact and close their eyes. The dragon will then breathe out a veil of mist that surrounds them. It feels comfortable, making it easier to relax. Slowly, the physical world starts feeling more distant.

Suddenly the pair will feel like they're floating. If they open their eyes they will be greeted with clear blue skies and a vast meadow they're about to gently land on. However, the moment they land the scenery changes; the scenery shifts according to what fits their states of mind. It splits neatly into half, one side for each person.

The state of mind can be visualized in different ways. Someone who has no problems or burdens may just have the same meadow with the blue skies while those with heavy burdens may have an approaching storm on the horizon. The meadow could also be withered and gray instead of the lush bright green, or even on fire.

Even if the two would have similar minds, there are still obvious changes. However if the pair is very close to one another the scenery will seem like it fits together seamlessly, no matter how different their minds are. They even have the risk of melding completely together, which can end up with both of them dead. They have to be constantly focusing on their sense of self to keep the two mindscapes separate. Whenever they stop doing so they will feel it as an ache all over their body.

Part 2

Several different colored energy lines travel across the mindscapes. All of them have a different purpose. The bright golden ones are their touch energy, which are currently actively burning. Other colors vary between what season they represent; blue for winter, pink for spring, green for summer and orange for autumn. They have several different shades, representing all kinds of different abilities. Those with special powers from home will also notice an energy line for them.

The pair must follow the right colored lines through a variety of different landscapes; forests, mountains, rivers, and so on. Their lines follow the same path; straight in the middle of the two mindscapes. There's even a chance of enemy counters (representing enemies from home or from Ellipsa), depending on just how dark their state of mind is. All of their powers, seasonal or otherwise, work here so they are able to fight the enemies off. Dying means failing the ritual, injuries will reflects as unpleasant pain for a while after.

At the end of the lines they will find a wall with a gate. Only by touching the gate at the same time will it open and behind it they will find several illusions of themselves. Approaching them will have them tell them something that is either a complete lie or the absolute truth about the person.

Their next task is to find the ones that tell the truth. Accepting the truths, no matter how unpleasant, will the the person absorb energy; this energy will feel like they're unlocking something new. Denying the truth will break the mindscape around them, causing cracks. Too many cracks will completely break it down, waking them up from the mindscape and ending the ritual in a failure.

Accepting a lie as the truth will also result in absorbing energy, but this energy will result in a minor injury in the real body and feels unpleasant.

The amount of accepted truths needed to unlock the abilities varies between each person, but there has to be at least five different ones. These can be just simple things like "he has brown hair" or "she sucks at karaoke", but also truths they necessarily don't want anyone to find out.

Optionally, characters can also capture a floating ball of energy inside the gate that will unlock the ability to do emotion magic. However, this can either be completely ignored or just unnoticed.

Part 3

After the pair has gathered all the possible energy, they are ready to wake up again. To do this, they must join their hands together and focus on the physical feeling of their own bodies. Their mind starts feeling more distant and eventually, they can feel like they're sitting once again.

The dragons congratulate them on their success and offer to tell them all about their season's abilities in more detail. Some even enthusiastically tell them all about emotion magic that may become something like a wildcard for them in battles.

People can redo the ritual with others, should they wish to help them unlock these abilities as well. However, they do not gain anything by doing it (unless they missed the emotional magic part) - other than possibly a deeper connection with the other person.

Do You Remember When Days Were Like That?

Part 1

With all this excitement, don't forget that all around the city, the End-of-Winter Festival is in full swing! Ever since long ago, this festival has been a cultural mainstay to say goodbye to winter and bring in spring (on the calendar, at least, since the seasons all stay in their places).

In every district, there are bonfires set up here and there. They're all in places far from the centre and away from anything particularly flammable, for the sake of anyone uncomfortable with fire -- but they're all festival hubs for people to gather. Just like last year, all the traditional activities are back: dressing in costumes and masks to symbolize winter and spring; singing and dancing around the fire; dramatic improvised plays where people are asked to act out a battle between winter and spring; and, of course, the pancake breakfasts! Thanks to the recent quests, most of them even have real maple syrup instead of the cheap golden corn syrup in the packet. Or berry syrup, if you're not into maple.

The jellycats (cats that have jelly-like shells protecting them. The shells wiggle everytime they purr and they can retreat back into them whenever they're uncomfortable) also make another appearance, staring at anyone eating pancakes and hoping they'll share a bite. They come in various colors and scents (each jellycat smells different to different people). The scent becomes stronger the more a jellycat likes and trusts a person.

Part 2

The traditional festivities aren't the only festivities this time around. After a very successful showing at last year's Arts Festival, the fanclubs of assorted otherworlders who have become minor or major celebrities through quests, missions, or even just plain social media presence are back. Not just that, but they've gotten serious and have opened an Otherworlder Fan Merch Store down a side street in Nightwake near one of the festival hubs.

They've certainly gone all out, even compared to when they just had festival merch booths. Otherworlders can find themselves on all kinds of merchandise like buttons, keychains, mugs, art prints, acrylic stands, and even 3D mouse pads and body pillow covers. Further back in the store are more esoteric goods. How many people are buying collector plates with the city's heroes on them? Who would buy a wallet with their face on it? Pasta shapes in a can?! Someone's gotten creative.

Past a curtain (wait, no, that's a shower curtain with life-sized images of characters, also available for sale), there's a section advertising "Unauthorized Biographies." Flipping through the comics and novels, one thing is clear -- this is the doujin section. How much of a market is there for RPF of the otherworlders? It's not even all dirty; at least half of these are coffee shop AUs shipping people with their friends or overly personal gushing about the time the subject of the story saved the author during a quest or a time monsters got into the city.

Part 3

The Amberfall Library doesn't have a bonfire (for obvious reasons), but it's also running as an event hub of a different sort. Following the Dragon Lord's announcement, they've brought up some archived books for people to peruse about the old days of the now unsealed season magic.

There aren't very many, owing to how long ago it was, but a few still remain. The biggest feature is a book of short stories, where two specific stories are bookmarked.

In "The Tale of Spring and Autumn," two lovers on a mission, a Spring and an Autumn power user, find a massive and powerful monster beyond description that threatens their home. Pushed to the brink, the Spring mage increases her own magic over and over, disregarding her own safety, to wound the monster gravely, but the overuse of that ability turns her into a tree, and the monster knocks the tree down. The Autumn mage breaks down in a fit of grief and uses her wood powers to kill the monster with the wood of the tree.

In "The Tale of Winter and Summer," a Summer power user is guarding a Winter exorcist when they come upon a spirit searching for help. The Winter channels them to fulfill their last wish to save their town from the pirates that killed them, but the spirit turns out to be lying and is actually a ghost pirate themself, and the Winter struggles and ultimately fails to take back his body from the ghost. The Summer, seeing the rest of the ghost crew gaining on them, causes a landslide with a magical explosion.

Thankfully, they're not all that depressing. Any would-be scholars can read gathered information about their new abilities, though these ancient sources might not always be the easiest to parse.

And as a festival activity, the library has also provided paper and writing utensils for attendees to write about what season magic means to them. They can be anything the writer wants and will be posted up in the library for the duration of the event!

[Just giving Sven a look over the top of his glasses. A reindeer, of all things, challenging his authority? Well, at least its owner seemed appropriately dressed.]

Good. The last thing we need is either of us getting frostbite.

[Despite his bossy nature, Byakuya did move to do his share of the work, assessing the sizes of wood.]

...This batch should do nicely as a starting point.

[Honestly, Katsuki's overheard so much about Shoto's past that part of him feels some kind of responsibility towards making sure the other boy has at least a decent high school life. The least he's been able to do is be here for the other boy, even when he feels awkward around him and doesn't know what to say. And being stuck in this place has brought the two a lot closer already than before, even if they're still just learning about each other.

This might be a good thing, Katsuki thinks. Maybe the two will get to know each other in a way that they haven't been able to, before.]

You stupid or somethin'?

[Katsuki scoffs, as he takes the other boy's hand and stands with him. Shoto will notice that Katsuki's palms, and the pads of his fingers, are rough and calloused. From years and years of blowing them up.]

Of course it matters! Everyone has a favourite colour! Even me!

[Why is Katsuki passionate about this? Because it's annoying when Shoto acts like he doesn't matter or like he's less than other people!! He's just as important as anyone else!!

But-- oh. The dragon tells the boys to settle down, so Katsuki drops the colour thing for now with a pout. And he closes his eyes as instructed, so the dragon can blow his mist over the two and begin the ritual.

At first, everything was alright. There's this feeling of exhaustion and sleepiness that takes over, as the world around the two starts to change and they float above a vast meadow. And Katsuki kind of liked how it felt... until they started to fall towards the ground. For a split second, he grips onto Shoto's hand tight and prepares for them to crash land. But their fall ends up slowing down until they both land gently into the grass. No need for the death grip he has on Shoto-- so he lets go.

And he looks around to assess the situation. The two were above a meadow seconds before, but now it's a place that's been split entirely in two. And on Katsuki's side, it looks like a vast forest. One very similar to the same that Katsuki had been kidnapped from, during that awful camping trip. Only this one was burned and scorched, as though a wildfire had just torn right through. Everything was grey and the air smelled, and looked, heavy with smoke. A few embers still burned, and some heat from the small fires could be felt, even if he was a good few feet away. It was.. depressing, to say in the least.

Though he did notice, here and there, tucked between burnt logs or peeking out of piles of ash were flowers of different varieties. Growing strong and healthy, amidst the chaos. He wonders why... but decides to put his attention to Shoto and his side, instead. What's he working with?]

1) Something Old, Something New

[New powers?! New powers! Hijikata is excited by Einnainth's announcement. Of course he heads to Solarpeak to hear the details, and he's all the more pumped at the prospect of ancient seasonal magics! With the new teleport crystals making the journey short and easy, he and his two pokémon help with the procurement and transport of building materials.

It seems like the dragons have made the most of the time since their return, and it's good to see the castle inhabited again. He ends up exchanging stories with some of them (and of course, he takes the opportunity to advertise mayonnaise, but while several are polite enough to try it, none of them wants to start hoarding it).

When Opallios makes his appearance and showcases the new abilities, Hijikata gets visibly hyped.]

Sun magic?! We're getting it back? This is great!! And the rest, too.. making other people fireproof will allow me to really let loose in a battle!

2) Between the Truths and Lies

[With the requirement of partners not being too familiar with each other, Hijikata's found family and closest friends are out of the question. Anyone who doesn't know him too well may find themselves be flagged down by the eager samurai.]

Hey, hey! Do you want to do this with me?

[Even if you may recognise him as that annoying loud policeman whose workmate recently had to publicly give away his mayonnaise hoard, think of the new powers!!]

3) Do You Remember when Days Were like that?

[Back in the city, Hijikata is more of a passive spectator to the End-of-Winter Festival than an active participant - he's not much of an actor, and he doesn't have much of a sweet tooth. When he hears of the Otherworlder Fan Merch Store, though, he simply has to check it out - mostly to do damage control.

At first, it looks like there's no need for that. He finds some really gorgeous items! There's an amazing print of him and Jean fighting monsters together, and a mug of Shoto that changes colours when hot or cold drinks are put into it, and a temporary tattoo of the one Mukuro has on her hand, and...

In no time, he has his arms full of merchandise featuring his loved ones. Time to pay-- but wait, what's behind that curtain? Don't tell them they sell doujinshi even in this permanent shop?!

Alas, that certainly is the case. As he looks around, he realises that there's a concerning variety of pairings featuring him... and he isn't always portrayed the way he wants to be. Seeing depictions of himself blushing over being blinded by Ozymandias' beauty, picked up by Koro, saved from a gigantoad's maws by Levi (how did that story get out?!), and even verbally degraded by Edmond (how fast do these people work?!), he gets bent out of shape in no time. Other visitors to the store may overhear his complaints to a hapless employee whom he's shaking back and forth.]

Who authorised this?! This is mischaracterisation-- mischaracterisation! Don't you people know that I was a Sanguis Moonblessed on Prismatica?!

[How is anybody supposed to know what that even means... but then again, shouldn't these doujinshi authors of all people know the deep lore?]

1) Something Old, Something New

[It's good to hear from the dragons again - all the more when they have such exciting news! Frieda has barely mastered half of her original seasonal powers, but she'd be remiss to not follow the invitation, she feels, all the more after hearing the details when Einnainth visits her home district's beach.

Providing what little aid she can (and even contributing to a hoard of two, which delights the dragons in question!), she marvels at how the abandoned castle has turned into a lair for so many of them. When Opallias makes his appearance and presents the newly granted abilities, she gets caught up in the excitement all over again.]

I'll be able to control the weather? That'll be so helpful! And-- oh!! To revive people from death? That's..!!

[If that applies to natives, it'll be the greatest blessing of all! For her, whose people have caused so much death in their homeworld, to be able to restore the dead to life... won't that be a way of atoning, and be it in as small a way?]

2) Between the Truths and Lies

[Frieda doesn't have great confidence in her reputation, so she's all the happier when someone who isn't her friend chooses her as their ritual partner. Taking the other person's hand(s) by the fire, she closes her eyes as the dragon mist engulfs them... and when she opens them again, she and her partner find themselves in a vast open space.

On Frieda's side, the meadow is lush and green, but there are heavy, dark storm clouds on the horizon. Seeing the differently coloured energies move through the air, she pauses for a moment.]

Seeing our powers materialised like this...

[Seeing a purple one, she frowns just a little. Are those her titan powers?]

3) Do You Remember when Days Were like that?

[It's the second time Frieda experiences the End-of-Winter Festival, and like last year, she enjoys the pancakes and the plays by the bonfires, as well as the activities at the library! Of course, she's also curious about the Otherworlder Fan Merch Store and visits it to buy merchandise of her friends. She wants to make an itabag!

To her surprise, there's a small amount of goods featuring her, too. It seems like her few fans appreciate her for her "doomer girl" aura, and her merchandise - mostly small items such as holographic badges - often feature an expression change from cheerful to gloomy. She doesn't venture behind the curtain, but if she did, she'd be surprised to find that there are virtually no doujinshi featuring her and Jade, despite them being an obvious couple who often walk around in matching outfits... could that be a result of Jade's menacing "I know where you live" aura? (There is, however, a contingent of 'Frinku' content which strongly leans into the pink-and-purple orange-and-blue/purple couple dynamic, and some I-can-fix-her type self-insert stories!)]

Rinku has so much merchandise..! I'll be able to make a bag just with her goods alone!

[There may be rarepair items she's overlooked, though - perhaps even featuring you!]

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW part 1

She’s vaguely aware that this world has dragons, and that they live in a place easily accessed by people, and she has even been considering going to meet them eventually, but she definitely didn’t expect them to show up in Nightwake itself, and certainly not so soon after her own arrival! (The announcement also startles the hell out of her, but luckily she’s in her apartment when it happens and so nobody has to see her yelp and drop the book she was reading). The contrast between their forms — familiar enough to bring home to mind — and the neon lights and concrete buildings of Nightwake is disorienting at first, but soon enough it starts to feel normal, almost natural; it’s almost like a little metaphor for Ellipsa as a whole, she thinks, or at least the part of it that she’s seen so far, which admittedly has been pretty small. She’s also very pleased to find that they’re intelligent; she wasn’t entirely sure whether to expect something closer to monsters or closer to people, and she’s glad it appears to be the latter. She doesn’t want to bother the envoy personally, and so she just watches him from a distance for a little while as kids play with him and people come up to speak with him. If someone happens to stand next to her then, she’ll smile at them, somewhat timidly, and ask:

“They’re really quite majestic, aren’t they? Dragons, I mean. Have you seen many of them before?”

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW part 2

The journey to the Abandoned Castle — not so abandoned anymore, it seems — is her first experience with quick travel in Ellipsa. She has used teleportation magic before, but it feels a little different here in a way she can’t quite put her finger on, like the flavour or the texture of the magic itself is unfamiliar, except naturally it has neither of those things, it’s just some other sense of hers that picks up on the difference. She arrives at the castle with an undignified yelp, likely catching the attention of whoever happens to be nearby.

“Gosh, sorry! Sorry about that — my first time teleporting here!” She gives a slightly embarrassed laugh, smooths down her dress, and hurries along inside the castle.

The decor inside catches her eye, and she spends a solid half an hour just wandering about, looking at the architecture and decorations and making light conversation with any dragons she might run into. She still appears a little unsure around them, maybe nervous, even, but she keeps chatting to them as if trying to purposefully work through her nerves. She also has a thick notebook with her that she occasionally takes notes in, including very simple drawings of interesting things she comes across. She’s not really hiding it, but will still be a little embarrassed at first if someone notices and will be quick to explain herself even before being asked about it.

“Oh, I’m just taking notes to show to my brother and my friends back home! I think they would enjoy this place, and I can’t bring them here with me, so…!”

BETWEEN THE TRUTHS AND LIES closed

[ It’s easy to find someone she’s not very deeply bonded with in order to conduct the ritual — that’s pretty much everyone here, after all — but if it’s going to involve magical manifestations of their minds, she reckons she would prefer to do it with someone she already knows she can trust, and luckily Frieda is interested. Falin’s still kind of nervous, but Frieda’s presence is reassuring enough for Falin to find the excitement again under the trepidation. She hasn’t had much to do with the seasonal magic yet, but her understanding is that these dragon magics are different from those still; she’s had a look at the list provided, but they all sound somewhat abstract to her, in the sense that it’s difficult to picture from just a description what exactly “charming weaker monsters” or “magnetism” will entail or what it’ll feel like. That’s alright, though; she figures she’ll just take these things as they come.

As they settle in for the ritual, she smiles a little smile at Frieda. ]

What do you think we’ll see in there?

[ As it turns out, Falin’s half of the mindscape — clearly separated from Frieda’s — is a seemingly endless field of golden wheat, swaying lightly under a sweet-smelling breeze. A clear sky stretches above it, a pale washed-out shade of blue like on a warm summer day, and far in the distance the shape of a tall castle can be seen. ]

DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN DAYS WERE LIKE THAT? part 1

Having grown up in a rather cold climate, she’s very familiar with celebrating the end of winter and the start of warmer days, and she’s very excited to see how those look in Ellipsa. She knows the seasons are not really changing, but knowing it logically and feeling it emotionally are two very separate things, and the atmosphere of the festival gets her feeling both nostalgic and curious of this new place at the same time. She has nothing by way of costumes or masks, so she’s just dressed in her normal clothes, but she’ll still happily take part in the celebrations, learn the songs and dances from both the Ellipsans and the otherworlders who have been here longer than her, and of course stuff herself on pancakes! The jellycats are completely new to her and she’s not sure what to make of them, but they’re just too cute to ignore, and since she’s not entirely sure what they can eat, she decides to play it safe and only feed them tiny little nibbles of butter. No pancakes for them, just in case!

OOC etc.

Delivered confidently. Oryou considers herself an expert on the subject... even if she doesn't actually know that many dragons besides herself, the ones in Chaldea, and a few she's met in Ellipsa.

Rinku's very merchandisable! Not to mention she's always helping people out, so everyone loves her. It makes sense that there's a lot of stuff of her being sold.

[There's at least one 18+ doujinshi out there with Frieda in her titan form and Evangeline. ...Actually, Evangeline has a copy of it in her basket right now.]

[Boothill hadn't expected the sudden admiration. He cleared his throat with a chuckle.]

O' course, kid. Even heroes need helpin'.

[Boothill looked out at his half of the mindscape, the broken and burnt homes. Were his people still on those puny reservations or did they finally leave too? Boothill never went back to check, his home was gone. Long gone and never coming back. He sighed and nodded back towards those energy lines.]

We oughtta get movin' before more of those shirtbags show up.

[The rest of the walk was much the same after that. Some room to breathe, to chitchat, before another wave was upon them. This time, it was on Bakugo's side and he called them nomu and they were nothing short of zombies, basically. Guess it was also universal that the way to kill them was the same as any other.

Aim for the head.

Good thing theirs was so easy to target, it was almost laughable. They continued on walking once done and Boothill could see the door in the distance. He casually reloaded his guns as they walked.]

Looks like we're finally reachin' the end. Forkin' finally!

Something Old, Something New

The question is whether or not the dragons can be trusted. Regardless of what they can demonstrate to us, this ritual of theirs still sounds suspect.

[Rinku had already assured him they were friendly and that was enough to get him to travel out to Solarpeak as well, but… what if that was simply her trusting nature??

The dragon’s intimidating presence perturbed him, but he tried to hide that behind a mask of cool confidence as he addressed Hijikata.]

You say you’ve heard some of these abilities mentioned before? Explain.

[Katsuki expected the Nomu to show up eventually, so when they did he was quick to tell Boothill of their weakness and to start fighting. Blowing up as many heads as possible, if not just whole bodies. The whole time he kept thinking to himself "I can't wait for my new arm" while watching Boothill fight from the corner of his eye, excited at the new possibilities a robotic limb will give him.

Once the two were finished, they finally make the rest of the trek up to the large gate. And as they approach, Katsuki can feel goosebumps rise on his forearms. This was the real challenge, now. Hearing what those doppleganger versions of himself had to say. He was curious how easy it was going to be for Boothill to accept his truths. Or if he was more stubborn and embarrassed to, like Katsuki.]

The final battle is ahead of us. We're about to be faced with clones. A lot of clones. And they're each gonna say some bullshit that'll either be a truth you probably don't wanna hear, or a really stupid lie.

[Katsuki braces himself, visibly anxious and when they get to the large door he reaches with his left hand to touch it. And nods at Boothill to do the same.]

[Evangeline/Frieda (whatever their pairing name may be) in its base form may lack the visual contrast of Sparklecest or Frinku/Shellfish, but why stick with the base form when one of them can turn into a giant monster! As always, the greatest visionaries are only known by pen names.]

Right? And she's a DJ, too! I'm so happy that I won her signed penlight at the auction! I'll put it in my fanbag! I want to get this little plush doll for it, and the big one for at home... I just hope Jade won't complain, but what can I say, there's barely any merchandise of him!

[Somehow, Togami's commands never piss Hijikata off as much as they should... perhaps because his tone doesn't quite seem to match the words. He's a bossy boy alright, but somehow, Hijikata never gets the impression anymore that he actually feels better than everyone else. As such, he answers readily enough.]

Yeah, these ancient powers were mentioned in old texts we found in a resurfaced magical library. They haven't been used in ages! As for the dragons, what would they stand to gain by deceiving us? This is their world, too, so it makes sense for them to lend us their strength against the Darkness. We were the ones who liberated them from imprisonment last year, you know?

[Judging by Hijikata's face as he peers over Mukuro's shoulder, he doesn't think it's a strange merchandise concept at all.]

Isn't this great?! Are there more hand replacements than just the one?

[When her expression remains confused, he supplements:]

[That's probably mostly used by the fans who focus on Frieda's mermaid obsession over her titan- and doomer aspects... but it may just end up as standard before long!]

Oh, goodness! This Mary is so cute! She's almost life-sized! At this rate, I'll run out of both space and money!

[Back home, she never was such a consumer... but in fairness, this merchandise is on a whole other level, and with things being as they are, what with people being called home without warning, who could blame any of them for wanting as many memorabilia of their friends as possible?]

[A battle of the mind, eh? Boothill certainly wasn't looking forward to the prospects of clones of himself speaking truths. But Boothill also wasn't one to lie himself. That didn't mean he wanted to hear some of the truths that he was likely to hear but he steeled (heh) himself and placed his hand on the door on his side and soon, it opened.

He blinked at the myriads of himself and Bakugo that greeted them.]

Holy forkeroni... you wasn't kiddin'.

[Not all of the Boothills were actually cybernetic. Some were full fleshed versions of himself, slightly darker but still him. Others he was partially cybernetic. The process of making himself the way he was hadn't been done in one night, after all. One of them stepped forward.]

You used to have a daughter.

[Katsuki takes in a deep breath when the gate opens, and all the clones of the two of them appear. It's a bit nightmarish for him to see all these versions of himself, standing and staring stoically at him with their piercing red glare. It makes his skin crawl, and he wishes he could just blow them all up and have that work instead of this stupid mind game bullshit.

He steps in, after Boothill and watches as the other is approached by a less cybernetic version of himself. The truth that ends up being spoken has him freeze in place, and look up at Boothill to study his reaction. And when Boothill doesn't deny it, it makes something tug sharply at Katsuki's heart. "Used" to have a daughter...]

...no wonder you're all about revenge.
